Gas Prices Have Officially Doubled From Trump's Last Day in Office

Insurrection? Don't we all wish.

National gas prices have doubled since Biden took office
The Biden administration denies that its policies could be contributing to the inflation surge

Since Biden took office in January 2021, the price for a gallon of gas has doubled.

On Jan. 20, 2021, the average price for a gallon of gas nationwide was approximately $2.39. As of Saturday, the price for a gallon of gas has skyrocketed to $4.81, up five cents from Friday, according to AAA.

...

The White House Tuesday declined to say Biden's policies are responsible for the high inflation that has materialized under his watch.

"His policies has helped the economy get back on its feet. That's what his policy has, his policies has done," White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said in response to a question from Fox News' Peter Doocy about if Biden takes any responsibility for inflation. "When we talk about the gas prices right now, this is indeed Putin's gas hike... We have seen about 60% increase in the past several months because of the amassing and his invasion of Ukraine."

Economic dissatisfaction is at a fifty year high.

Eighty-three percent of Americans describe the state of the economy as poor or not so good, according to a Wall Street Journal-NORC Poll. Only one percent describe the economy as "excellent."

Thirty-five percent said they are not at all satisfied with their financial condition, the highest level of dissatisfaction since NORC began asking the question every few years starting in 1972.

Sixty-three percent of Americans say they are extremely or very concerned about the price of gas. Fifty-four percent say they are extremely or very concerned about the impact of high grocery prices on their household's financial situation. Just 13 percent say they not very or not at all concerned about gas prices and 19 percent about grocery prices.

The share of Americans who think they can improve their standard of living has plunged. Just 27 percent now say they have a good chance of improving, down from 47 percent a year ago. Forty-six percent say they don't have a good chance of improving their standard of living.

Only 38 percent of Americans say they are generally optimistic about the opportunity for most people to achieve the American dream. Sixty-eight percent say they are generally pessimistic.

ABC News poll: people are upset about "Putin's Tax."

In the poll, 80% of Americans say that inflation is also an extremely or very important factor in how they will vote and for gas prices, it is 74%.

Joe Biden's approval ratings for his handling of these key issues are all well underwater, suggesting trouble for the president and Democratic candidates ahead of the midterm. Only 37% approve of Biden's handling of the economic recovery, and even fewer approve of his handling of inflation (28%) and gas prices (27%).

Janet Yellen's biographer reports that she warned him that his spending and "stimulus" packages would be inflationary -- and he ignored her.

Yellen denies this but yeah, whatever.

Janet Yellen, worried by the specter of inflation, initially urged Biden administration officials to scale back the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan by a third, according to an advance copy of a biography on the Treasury secretary.

"Privately, Yellen agreed with Summers that too much government money was flowing into the economy too quickly," writes Owen Ullmann, the book's author and a veteran Washington journalist, referring to former Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers, who severely criticized the size of the aid plan. The book is due out on Sept. 27.

A Treasury spokesperson disputed the claims.

Harry Enten notes that the generic congressional ballot looks the best for the GOP since... 1938.

And you know who else looked good in 1938.

I would say they’re looking very good from the historical context. Basically, I took the best Republican positions on the generic congressional ballot at this point in midterm cycles since 1938, that generic ballot basically is, "Would you vote for the generic Republican or generic Democrat in your district?"

And guess what, since 1938, the Republican two-point lead on the generic congressional ballot is the best position for Republicans at this point in any midterm cycle in over 80 years. It beats 2010, when Republicans were up a point.

Mediaite's Kipp Jones digests the interview further:

Enten noted in 2010, Republicans held a one-point advantage and took the House by storm. He pointed out in 1998, 2002 and 2014, Democrats held a one-point generic ballot advantage. Each time, Republicans took the House majority.

"Now, of course, the election is not being held tomorrow, and we'll see," Enten added. "Sometimes history isn't always prologue, but my estimate for the 2023 House makeup, if the election were held today, which again, it isn't, we still have five months, five months from tomorrow, would be Republicans, 236 seats to 241 seats. Democrats, 194 to 199. That's based off a formula of seat-to-seat race ratings from the Cook Political Report and Inside Elections."

Tapper noted a House where Republicans held up to 241 seats would be a "stomping," to which Enten agreed.

Video of that at the end of the post.

That poll finds that most voters find Biden "incompetent." And they wish that Trump were still president.

According to the poll of 1,500 likely voters for the Washington DC based Democracy Institute, 54 percent said they would prefer Trump to be President now compared to a woeful 43 percent for Biden. It comes as Biden is mired in an economic crisis and has been accused of "a failure of leadership" which is seeing Americans turn their backs on Ukraine.

...

According to the Democracy Institute/Express US monthly US tracker poll, almost three-quarters of the country (73 percent), believe America is heading in the wrong direction under Biden.

He has not been helped by a national shortage of baby formula, even though he has ordered emergency supplies with 61 percent blaming him for the crisis.

A depressed US electorate also appears to expect the worst under Biden's leadership, with 63 percent expecting the US to enter a recession.

...

The poll says that six in 10 Americans think Biden has handled the economy poorly.

And more than half of Americans (54 percent) are unhappy with Biden's record as President and believe he is incompetent.

...

Almost two-thirds (65 percent) don't believe Biden will secure a second term in 2024. When matched against Trump, the former President comes out on top by 48 percent to 43 percent.

...

Director of the Democracy Institute Patrick Basham said that voters in America have "buyers' regret" about Biden after a disappointing Presidency.

...

He went on: "The view is that Biden is now inept and incompetent."

Biden's slipping with black voters, too.

A bit. I mean, let's not get crazy here.

Now, a Washington Post/Ipsos poll shows Black Americans souring on the President just a bit. While the polling shows that 70 percent of the 1250 respondents approve of Biden's performance, only 23 percent "strongly approve." This may seem like an irrelevant difference, but the shift in certainty could be representative of the public frustration over Biden's failure to keep his campaign promises.

Black Americans in particular were moved by the Biden/Harris campaign's unkeepable promise to forgive student debt. Biden tried to gin up the Black voter base by recalling the days of the Democrat-led, segregated South, calling Georgia's election reform laws "Jim Crow 2.0." However, his hyperbole lost a lot of steam after Georgia turned out record numbers in primary voting. Meanwhile, Black voters have been feeling the sting of inflation and gas prices just like everyone else.

Biden is reportedly considering -- I mean, his puppeteers are reportedly considering -- an illegal scheme to forgive, by unconstitutional dictatorial fiat, $10,000 of student debt for everyone, which would cost around six billion dollars.

Supposedly. You know that's a low-ball.

This is entirely illegal.

So why are Biden's puppeteers plotting this brazenly illegal act?

Because Stacy Abrams told them to.

Charlie Sykes: How did they not get this? James, I'm sorry... How do they not get this? You look at the states -- like Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio -- what percentage of the population has college degrees? And yet you are asking all of those people who are experiencing high anxiety to pay for this transfer of wealth.... And then I'm sorry, I know that Twitter is not real life ... but all of these folks saying, 'This is a betrayal. Only $10,000? I have $50,000 in college debt. If the Democrats are only going to forgive $10,000, well, then I'm not going to vote for them.' Suck it, Buttercup.

I mean, seriously, where does Joe Biden think this groundswell is going to come from, except for this small group of highly-entitled college graduates who dominate the staffing and the inner workings of the Democratic party?

James Hohmann: I've asked, I've repeatedly asked people. And I've asked a lot of people in the White House this question, and essentially the answer is that this is the fault of Stacey Abrams and Raphael Warnock.

Charlie Sykes: What?

James Hohmann: Stacey Abrams has been browbeating the White House on this, and says that this is the only way she could win -- that this is going to be a base turnout election. This isn't about persuading people in the middle, it's about getting the base to turn out. And the base isn't going to turn out if they don't do this, and that they have all sorts of stats about how a lot of graduates from HBCUs have all this debt. And so there are a lot of people very close to the president who privately understand that this is a complete disaster for them. But the president is being pulled really hard by these woke leftists who ... believe it's all about the base. They just don't get it because they haven't spent time in the WOW counties or in Apple Valley, Minnesota.

Audio of that part of the interview below, as excerpted on Megyn Kelly.

Here's Jake the Fake hearing the bad news about his precious Democrat Party:

Two points Enten makes: the economy is chosen as the most important issue by 48% of respondents. Biden's approval on his handling of the economy is at net -26% approval (disapproval exceeds approval by 26 points), which is tied for the lowest of all presidents in the last forty years.

And who's he tied with? Jimmy Carter, of course. CNN forgot to mention that.

Because, reportedly, Biden hates, hates the Jimmy Carter comparisons.

7 Mentioned in an earlier thread, reposted on-topic here. It's the entire reason they were trying to sweet talk Saudi Arabia - the same bunch they said they'd make "a pariah state" at the beginning of their administration - to release more of their dirty ass oil instead of opening up oil and gas drilling here.

They don't want us to have it. They just want the prices to drop before midterms.

And instead OPEC and Saudi Arabia laughed and *raised* prices, because f*ck you, that's why.

73 Objectively speaking it doesn’t feel like a recession.

I agree, but this was true in the Great Depression as well. It took a year or so to really take effect, because of economic momentum. Your boss can keep you on for a few quarters because of last year's business and some money saved up, for instance. Your store can stay open with products because of inventory they have out back, for a while. That kind of thing.

But eventually it catches up to everyone and by the next year, all the soup lines are long, and people are begging for a dime.

Putin did not force the junta to place severe economic sanctions on We The People. That is purely the junta's own autonomous work.

If anything the junta's sanctions have benefitted greatly the Russian economy and has moved the world closer to abandoning the US dollar as a reserve currency. One could easily argue that the Junta and Putin are working in conjunction to richly benefit Putin and the WEF cabal's interest in destroying the West and replacing it with global poverty, misery and death.

Exactly. This is why I don't discount massive Republican betrayal on gun control--they think they can do anything and have super majorities. Except that they know they're running on nothing. It's a set strategy. Get power, then do what they want.

Their mandate isn't affirmed because they ran on no mandate. This leaves a huge opening for someone else in the Republican Party to dictate what the Republican Party is. Someone like Trump. This worked when they were the only power center in the Party.

Trump: "I say the Republican Party is for X."
GOPe: "No, it's definitely Y."
Trump: "No one ever heard you talk about Y. No one believes you. No one likes you. I say it is X."

I had just started driving a few months before Carter was elected. Gas was .55/gal. all around here. It stayed there until early '79, the second "gas crisis," when it jumped to $1.00/gal., and there were lines again for a short while. Gas remained right around that level with very few fluctuations for a long time. it was around $1.69 or so when Hurricane Katrina hit -- I remember the stations in Bryan, TX, clicking over $2 in early September of '05.

1. It's the media that's saying the left is going to get blown out of the water. I don't believe that.
2. The GOP is doing nothing, will continue to do nothing and if forced to do something, will fuck up royally and hand the "election" to the left.
3. The junta is in total disarray. The economy is tanking, a depression is on the horizon, food, fuel, goods and services are all about to collapse. If ever there was a time to mount a insurrection it'd be now... but here we are.

227 Christina Ellingsen, of the global feminist organization Women’s Declaration International (WDI), is under police investigation for making the claim in a tweet in which she criticized the trans activism group FRI.

“Why [does] FRI teach young people that males can be lesbians? Isn’t that conversion therapy?” Ellingsen allegedly tweeted.

She also questioned the legitimacy of FRI’s advisor Christine Jentoft identifying as a lesbian despite being born a biological male.

“Jentoft, who is male and an advisor in FRI, presents himself as a lesbian – that’s how bonkers the organization which supposedly works to protect young lesbians’ interests is. How does it help young lesbians when males claim to be lesbian, too?” Ellingsen reportedly said.

“You are a man. You cannot be a mother,” Ellingsen allegedly told Jentoft.

“To normalize the idea that men can be mothers is a defined form of discrimination against women.”

the federalization of student loans basically created a system where the "needy" and special categories of students got however much in federal loan as they wished. but other kids, not so much.

which really set the stage for then forgiving these loans! it's reparations, I guess.

“To certain groups, the fact that women and girls are female and that men cannot be women, girls, mothers or lesbians, is considered hateful,” Ellingsen told Reduxx, adding that the police are investigating her for “for campaigning for women’s rights.”

“The fact that police are legally able to investigate and persecute women who engage in women’s rights is concerning,” said Ellingsen

“This is new territory in Norway, so the outcome of the investigation is important, both if the case is dismissed and if it leads to trial,” she added.

316 In a little-known part of the financial market that’s had the most accurate reads on U.S. inflation so far, traders are pricing in an annual headline rate on the consumer-price index of 8.5% or higher for the next five months, starting with May. As of Tuesday, fixings, or derivatives-like instruments related to the market for Treasury inflation-protected securities, or TIPS, imply that May’s year-over-year consumer-price index reading on Friday will come in at 8.5%. That’s above the 8.2% median forecast of economists polled by The Wall Street Journal and would match the 40-year high hit in March.

Posted by: Captain Walker

Its a trigger word. Basically it is a meaningless sound that they utter that evokes a certain emotion that is attached to an ideology.

"Our democracy" probably means Jack Botted Tyranny, but the "our" part is an invitation to personally take ownership of the scope and effect of government. The "democracy" part has the benefit of sounding like "Democrats" so "democracy" is "any good intention or thought of how the world should revolve around me that is guaranteed by Democrats" is the emotional connection that they attempt to conjure up with the "our democracy" trigger words.

Except the "range" is complete bullshit. I know many rich snobs who own EVs including very high end Taycans. They will grudgingly admit that the actual range is about half what is claimed. So at most she was getting 150-200 miles. And depending on where in MI she was traveling from, and where in DC she was traveling to, the trip could be 700+ miles. That would be 3-4 stops if she didn't stop until the range was almost down to zero. I suspect she is lying about the whole thing.

He put in a knowledgeable pro-energy Department of Energy secretary who personally knows and has long established relationships with many of the players in the oil industry.

Greenlighted Keystone XL which was a signal to other energy developers that they had a four year window to get things done.

Stood out of the way when energy producers were looking to make some money.

But Trump mostly benefitted from C19's massive drop in energy demand in a high supply environment. So the low prices were going to be artificially low and very temporary.

Charging one of these idiotic electric vehicles at any acceptable rate is roughly running an electric clothes dryer. Or two, depending.

Now, imagine a dense suburban area where everyone is running a dryer or two every evening when they get home. The local distribution network couldn't handle that demand, much less the larger transmission network.

Significant capacity upgrades would have to be done to everything in the chain, not to mention the increased generation.

And nope, solar panels and windmills ain't gonna provide it.

516 On the issue of gas prices, I drove my electric vehicle from Michigan to here [DC] last weekend and went by every gas station and it didn’t matter how high it was.

Presses X to doubt.

I'm skeptical she drove herself anywhere that long, but let's play along. I'm assuming Washington DC to Detroit Michigan, the shortest distance to a major city. I doubt she lives in the Detroit area, but we'll just use this as a baseline.

That's 535 miles, about an 8 hour trip. I doubt she did it in one day, so let's give her one overnight to charge. So 267 miles a day with her little electric car.

What's the longest range any E-car boasts? Teslas claim 405 miles, so its doable, in theory. But that would have to be just her, no luggage, in good weather. On flat ground (ignore that mountain range in the way). Could it be done? Yeah.

But as others have said, electricity is going up in price, too.

Just curious, not a crticism. Do you use your truck to transport things? If so then it makes sense to pay the extra money for gas. I only commute, so I drive a hybrid and save thousands a year. And they're extremely low maintenance.

[Don't buy a Gen 3 though, they suck -- bought one at the beginning of the year for $8K, had to put $7K maintenance into it, and then it blew a head gasket at 150,000 miles -- which I subsequently found out was frequent and common (and I was only getting 42 MPG).

And then, as others have noted, the hidden extra costs, like installing a charging system, replacing batteries, etc.

Unlike a tool chest that has individual tools for specific tasks, people don't own a fleet of motor vehicles that are adept at one thing.

If you have to haul something 2% of the time, you either are spending a lot of money at the Uhaul or Lowes Depot to rent a truck/van; are at Enterprise renting something for family travel; so you can have a specialty vehicle for commuting/simple errands efficiently; or you get a truck or SUV that handles the entire range of non-corner-case applications.
