The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition

punk-monkey.jpg

Mayor Adams is a clown, but he is a slicker clown than de Blasio, and he has the huge advantage of being an ex cop (my guess is that he was a political hack) and black, so that gives him a sort of cachet that protects him from the obvious...it is his party that gutted NYC's justifiably excellent anti-crime programs. "Stop and Frisk," "broken Windows Theory," and just plain old hard work by the cops, with backing from the Giuliani and Bloomberg administrations made NYC the safest large city in the country.

But all good things must come to an end, especially at the hands of Democrats, or in NYC's case, socialists. de Blasio began a trend of decriminalization, handcuffing the police with conspicuous lack of support, ending the hugely successful programs that made New York City a real pleasure. It was amazingly safe, amazingly clean, and before Bloomberg began his awful program of Disney-fying the city it was even a lot of fun.

Shockingly (to nobody with two synapses to rub together), if a city doesn't aggressively pursue criminals, arrest them, charge them, try them, convict them, and then incarcerate them...crime returns!

Adams can obfuscate all he wants, but eliminating bail, dropping all but the most trivial charges, restricting the police to being essentially cigar store indians...standing around and not doing much else lest they be accused of racism/brutality/misgendering, gets you exactly what we have today in NYC. It is his party...his political philosophy...his insane progressive agenda that has created these conditions.

Adams calls NYC's criminal justice system 'laughingstock of our entire country'

Mayor Eric Adams lashed out at prosecutors and judges Monday for cutting loose suspected shooters to unleash more gunfire on the Big Apple’s streets — saying the “bad guys no longer take them seriously.”

The clearly frustrated mayor also fumed that soft-on-crime policies were turning the city’s criminal justice system into “a laughingstock of our entire country.”

He can pass the buck all he wants, but until he goes toe-to-toe with the DAs, calls out judges by name, empowers the police to go after the bad guys without fear of political and legal retribution, New York City will continue this miserable spiral down into the misery of the 1970s and 1980s.

And it gets better!

"People no longer believe that you can't do a shooting in the city," he fumed.
Interestingly, the mayor seems to be suggesting that it isn't guns that do the shooting! Could it be that he is recognizing, even inadvertently, that it is the lack of enforcement of gun laws that creates the conditions for murder and mayhem?

Nah...my bet is that he will come charging out in a few weeks with some draconian and ineffective policy to restrict the rights of the law-abiding citizens of NYC, while simultaneously doing absolutely nothing to combat the real problem: progressive DAs, prosecutors and judges who care not a whit about the quality of life in NYC, and want only to continue its slide into socialist hell.

If I were a mayor of a city with a Marxist DA, I think what I'd do is put up a ballot measure (which would pass easily) to give me the power to appoint my own version of a "Special Counsel," unaccountable to the horrible, crime-loving DA. Then I'd appoint some lackey to file charges coming from the PD. Short-circuit the DA. Or perhaps, just appoint a specially trained rape dog to be DA. Whatever.

242 A little folk-duo joke, so old I may have read it in Rolling Stone. A guy between jobs, working as a cabbie around Bard College, picks up Art Garfunkel as a fare. A quick glimpse in the mirror tells him what's going to happen, and sure enough Garfunkel asks chummily "So what kind of music are you guys into around here?" Knowing Garf is hungry for admiration, they guy says "Oh, it's all folk duos in our scene, man," and reels off every two-person act then extant -- all the ones above, plus Fraser and DeBolt, except for Paul and Art -- as the great man becomes more and more agitated in the back seat. Finally, as the driver goes on and on, Garfunkel has him pull over midblock, and abruptly stalks off, fuming.

This experience did not shake his faith in the Teacher System. Not one bit.

316 If you read Adams' policy papers from the election it is quite clear that he is all in for "defund the police", he simply never uses that phrase. Instead, he plays games about firing "aggressive" cops and hiring more "black and brown" cops.

He also promotes the same "restorative justice" nonsense about not sending criminals to jail of they have been "affected by gun violence", and instead treating them with counseling services and subsidies to get jobs or start their own businesses.

The only crimes he wanted to punish was having a firearm so he could ban all public ownership of firearms. He wanted to confiscate all firearms, including those held by gangs. Unfortunately for him, that part conflicts with the rest of his party which refuses to allow any justice measures against gangs of color.

To try and get permission to do that he postures about letting criminals go even if they use firearms, but he still does not want to put them in prison, merely make them submit to rehabilitation and reeducation. The only reason he would send them to prison is for the crime of making him look bad, not for what their actual crimes.
