"DUBAI (Reuters) - Saudi Arabia's gross domestic product grew 9.9% in the first quarter, the fastest in a decade and more than a flash estimate last month of 9.6%, official data showed on Tuesday. That painting creeps me the hell out. Posted by: Warai-otoko at June 08, 2022 09:49 AM (6FeV1) I never understood that reaction. Then again, I'm pretty much "face blind" so that may be why the facelessness isn't a problem for me. Posted by: Polliwog the 'Ette at June 08, 2022 10:21 AM (nC+QA) 231

Posted by: OrangeEnt at June 08, 2022 *** Yes! I guess you didn't see on the ONT. There's a little fluffy black male kitten at a shelter about 3 hours' drive from me, and I'm deciding whether to go up and see him on Saturday. He's about 4 months old. My hesitation is not due to him -- unless he turns out to be a biter and a loud meower. It's that I haven't lived with a kitten for more than 10 years. The last one I had was super smart and sweet, but she wanted to play all the time -- including at 2 am. I don't know if I can handle a kitten! This one was pretty good -- all they wanted in advance was a reference from my vet, to make sure I cared for my previous animals, I guess. I inquired about one cat on Petfinder, and the rescue woman sent me a 4-page application! My local branch of the SPCA has no longhaired cats, which are my preference. They insist on an appointment, too. And on face diapers; I'm not doing that. If I adopt this little black fellow, I'm not averse to adopting a Siberian in the near future. ******** Direct quote from an article at the AAP: In 2019, firearm injuries surpassed motor vehicle collisions to become the leading cause of death for youth aged 0-19 years in the United States, after excluding deaths due to prematurity and congenital anomalies. So, in other words, what they are saying is that firearms injury from all causes (homicide, suicide, accidental) is the leading cause of death if you ignore the leading causes of deaths. and the rescue woman sent me a 4-page application! There's a lot of messed up in the mind horder/rescuers in the pet rescue world. Anytime someone starts talking about the leading killer of children, you're about to hear some BS. Children are, thankfully, remarkably resilient, so whatever things are the "leading" killers of children, they're getting very low numbers, and there's not any real statistical difference between the 3rd leading killer of children and the 27th leading killer of children.

Direct quote from an article at the AAP:
In 2019, firearm injuries surpassed motor vehicle collisions to become the leading cause of death for youth aged 0-19 years in the United States, after excluding deaths due to prematurity and congenital anomalies. So, in other words, what they are saying is that firearms injury from all causes (homicide, suicide, accidental) is the leading cause of death if you ignore the leading causes of deaths. Blatant misrepresentation. More on this coming up, maybe this weekend. Posted by: Muldoon at June 08, 2022 10:41 AM (cPDW+) Also, 0-19? Cassatt was the only woman and the only American among the Impressionists. She was the daughter of a Pittsburgh railroad magnate. From what I've heard, she's one of the reasons why the Art Institute of Chicago has such a magnificent collection of Impressionist works: the wives of Chicago's plutocrats - Armour, Swift, Palmer - were introduced to the Impressionists by her, and bought their paintings for what was pocket change for them. By chance just yesterday a good friend who worked in the Senate even longer than I did and I were discussing who might become GOP leader. Didn't take long. The only non-drone or non-ridiculous GOP members, a handful, are themselves either sort of unlikely because too young/not likely to be big fundraisers, or have personalities/profiles that make them very unlikely to be chosen by the caucus.
There are no "Trumps" in the Senate, meaning outliers as individuals who actually seriously want to take simple, utterly conventional actions supported by most of the public (when it takes 2 minutes to think about anything) and which lead to instant positive results. Any benefit from a non-disastrous president after this disastrous clownshow will almost certainly be based, as before, on executive orders and inherent authority (depending on how much of the latter is usurped/disrupted by a lawless, farcical judiciary). Kavanaugh assassin wanna be caught with a gun and burglary tools near Kavanaughs home. Perp told police he was there to kill Kavanaugh over his Roe v Wade ruling. I am sure whoever s the DA there will turn him over to a nice psychiatric facility for a month to get his meds straightened out. No reasonable prosecutor would charge him.

377 At the VA now, we have to refer to Veterans as "Veteran Smith" instead of Sir or Ma'am. This came about due to our call centers talking to Veterans and assuming their gender via their voice, i.e. what normal people do. So a few, a very few, trans-ninnies got highly offended and complained.

319 SHOCKING: the man taken into custody outside of Brett Kavanaugh’s house last night is a 26 year old white male with a California driver’s license. Previous address in Seattle.
__________ Odd how the left is so determined that the issue of abortion not be returned to the voters in the states. Are they worried that they can't convince a majority of state voters to support laws that allow a baby to be killed as he or she is exiting the womb, or are they just worried that they won't be able to corrupt enough elections to cheat their fellow lefty ghouls into state offices? Imagine an opposition party. One that would, given this incident involving Kavanaugh, be shouting at the top of its lungs, through all channels, and not just for one day, accusations of incitement to violence against the Dems who have indeed done such incitement.
McConnell should have a parade of his drones denouncing Schumer by name ("the senator from New York"), and listing all the crude, Third World demagogue vomit from the idiot Harris and others going back to 2020, that has degraded and damaged the country. Accompanied by paid advertising along the same lines. Instead you'll get nothing. Posted by: rhomboid at June 08, 2022 11:13 AM (OTzUX) 393
