It's Always ONT Time

Welcome to Friday night. Please open your bibles to the letter of Paul to the...

Paul.jpg

I notice this a lot

The left can't seem to take yes for an answer. A few weeks ago when when the Roe decision leaked, there was some lib going on about how if abortion was outlawed, then men should be required to support the child and be a father to it. I've never seen so many people agreeing with a post, and she just kept trying to fight them because if she'd have listened to them it would have ruined her chance to be a victim. Gun control too. How many times have you seen a Prog say something like “We should give black people guns, the Republicans would ban them within a week”, and refuse to budge from the statement even after hundreds of pro-2A folks say “What a marvelous idea”. WRT the meme, that song is from the video game FarCry 5. Never played it, but as I understand the plot, you play a fed who is taking on a Christian group in Montana that just wants to be left alone. I agree with ChadJack up there. It's a banging song.

Like a Roman stone

Roman Stone.jpg

People are people, and always have been. This stone was found near Hadrian's Wall, built in the 120s. The inscription reads "Secundinus Cacator", which would roughly translate to "Secundinus is a shithead". There's also a giant dick.

62 Regarding "The Church Epistles" ...

We read that the Word of God grew mightily and prevailed, and that "all they which dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus." And yet, at the close of his ministry, and of his life, he writes his last Epistle to Timothy, when he says "I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand” (II Timothy 1:15): "This thou knowest that all they that be in Asia have turned away from me."
We are told, on every hand, today, that we must go back to the first three centuries to find the purity of faith and worship of the primitive church!
But it is clear from this comparison of Acts 19:10 and II Timothy 1:15, that we cannot go back to the first century. No, not even to the apostle’s own lifetime!

Until their eyes open (about 10 days), Mama and babies are watched 24 hours a day. With HM and I both more or less retired, we can have a less exhausting watch schedule.

This turning away could not have been merely personal; but must have included his teaching also. For in chapter 2, verse 18, he speaks of those "who concerning the truth have erred." In chapter 3, verse 8, he speaks of those who "resist the truth." In chapter 4, verse 4, he speaks of those who "turn away their ears from the truth” and are “turned unto fables."

99 The story about the Queen was so sweet!

We actually got to see her, quite serendipitously, when we visited Edinburgh. Daughter #1 wanted to eat at the Hard Rock Cafe, so we drove over there from the train station. Walked over to the restaurant, and noticed a small crowd standing close to where the restaurant was located.

Earlier that morning, the news mentioned that Her Majesty was at her castle in Edinburgh to knight Sean Connery. We joked that our invitations must have gotten lost in the mail. When we saw the crowd outside of the restaurant, we thought that Mr. Connery must be dining at the HRC, and we wouldn't get a table to save our lives.

We got closer to the restaurant and realized that the crowd - and a bunch of Bobbies - was standing outside of the building right next to the HRC, and all of the wait staff were standing at the restaurant window, looking for something.

We got up to the crrowd, asked what was going on, and were told that the Queen was handing out a couple of medals in the building next door.

The problem with the concept of sola scriptura is that the Bible is not always clearly written and passages can be interpreted differently. Thus, you end up with thousands of Protestant churches and sects. The Catholic and Orthodox Churches, despite having flawed leadership over the centuries and differences in doctrine, are the only ones that can trace continuity from Jesus Christ.

105 My thoughts on the Gospels and Paul's epistles:

The truth is stranger than fiction.

Just tonight I knelt and sat not 10 feet from the creator of the world. Who could dream up such a thing as God would become man and live among us? And love us so much?

106 I don't know why, but little things have just started bothering me.

Like at work, I have to ask everyone to show their ID for beer. So 70 and 80 year olds come see me, often multiple times and I know them by name and what beer they drink, but I still have to ask them again and again.

They actually don't complain. But I have a problem with it. I f*cking hate stupid compliance for compliance sake.

And then they now make me use an ID scanner to make sure the ID isn't fake. I mean it's just agitating. Why the f*ck am I carding an elderly person and checking to see if their ID is fake.

There is no law that says I have to in my area, it's just company policy. But it's a stupid f*cking policy. I now actually want some Vietnam vet to yell at me "I served this country and killed men and I ain't showing no damned ID" and then punch me in the face. I think I'd actually feel better. I can't scream "this is stupid" so it would be nice if someone else would just raise immortal hell and then assault me.

It would be cathartic.

110 Daughter wanted to eat. We hold get that if we made the waiters and cooks miss their chance to see the Queen, there was no telling what would find its way into our food, and besides.....THE QUEEN!!!!!

I mean, what are the chances that you will ever see the Queen up close?

So we waited, and a few minutes later, she came out. Everyone was very polite. I could only see the top of her hat, 'cuz she is apparently just as short as I am, but I handed the camera to Paul and he held it over his head and blindly took some photos.

When we got back home, we were thrilled to see that all of the photos were good, and you could actually tell that it was the Queen in the pictures!

And that is my "Queen" story....

112 The "joke" about Paul is good, I wasn't trying to be Bible Nazi. But I think most don't realize Paul said most had left him before he died. ... Another verse he speaks of only the few he names, that are still with him. ...

The scribes did the hard work ... institutional religions failed us .. but as with the Constitution, we have written documents, (beyond the constitution ... all the writings that give us details of the founder's intentions)

imo "the church" had been twisted in Orwellian ways not long after Paul. Kinda a golden calf typical man forming his own thang tradition of earthy man.

142 " The Catholic and Orthodox Churches, despite having flawed leadership over the centuries and differences in doctrine, are the only ones that can trace continuity from Jesus Christ." Posted by: Retired Buckeye Cop

as I said, the scribes did the best work .. preserving the scriptures. ... Christ Jesus is the head of the church ... other "continuity" means little, especially if they are murderous, torturers ... that deny/subvert scripture. Hence a Martin Luther that says "hey, selling indulgences is wrong".

Wrong Practice, which the Catholic church made established Wrong Doctrine. I think he had 94 other arguments ... based in scripture, in defiance of the Ex Cathedra pope. (as if Pope speaks directly for God, even if he clearly defies scripture)

No fish on Friday was never right doctrine, it was pagan. So they came around to change it ... but it was always wrong doctrine. ... as with hundreds of others things. Now commie pope wants to rewrite the Lord's prayer, accept LGBTQ+ ... but "continuity" (your traditions defy God, I think Jesus said) ... means Catholics keep funding the commie Pope.

But I have no church to bring anyone to ... so .. hmmm.

I plumb wire myself out today. I hoed out my corn, got it dosed with nitrogen, and then tilled a bunch. Then drove some more fence posts to finish off my double layer electric fence setup to keep the damned deer out.

I've had the old inner perimeter energized for some time, and had most of the outer perimeter energized, but I need to finish up some holes at the head end around.

And didn't get that finished, because I'd inadvertently picked up the wrong gate insulator thingies -- made for wood posts, not T-posts. I cussed out loud when I discovered it.

Anyway, came in around 3PM and just crashed and didn't wake up until 8PM or so. It was supposed to rain, and we managed to get a lot of wind and boogerish clouds, but less than 1/4". It wet the nitrogen in good, though.

180 "I remember Paul saying that Christians had nothing to offer other people nothing but hope." Posted by: exdem13

Do you have a verse or two for that? Not doubting, but nothing jumps to my mind. He did write "in all these things we are more than conquerors" ... and I don't think he meant to just lay down and die, then you get your reward in the afterlife.

My current view is God speaks to people in the light of the time ... so something like Romans 13 (all government s are of God, so obey the governments?) only makes pragmatic sense, maybe. It doesn't fit (imo) to say those powers really refer to men of God. I only make sense of it by thinking in those times, Christians could not rise up against governments, it would be suicide. So God is a "pragmatist" as he speaks to mortal flawed man?

Up to 15,000 may join largest ever migrant caravan to walk through Mexico to US
https://t.co/djKK4ruYea

Earlier this month, the Mexican National Migration Institute (INM), wrote to Villagran, expressing sympathy for the caravan's members and pledging to help the most vulnerable among them. The letter also acknowledges that the caravan is a result of the stunning tsunami of migration from nearly every country in the Americas to the United States in the past few years
But the letter also marks the first time the Mexican government has responded to a caravan before its departure, and may signal a shift in how the authorities respond to large groups of migrants

211 So.. Nerd Cred here. In 1980 I was at GenCon, where I got to play in a run DM'd by Garry Gygax himself... yes, the Father of D&D. High level run... and one player was playing a Troll, and yes, he was very annoying...

So... we're walking down a Trail through the mountains... Along a cliff side... hundreds of feet down. I was talking to another player as we walked... and it suddenly hit me... so I asked... OK, if by definition trolls are Loathsome and Rubbery... do they bounce? Gygax looked at us... and got a half smile on his face... so... Grapple attack... and my monk throws the Troll over the cliff. One of the Things Gygax did in his games, was allowed the passing of notes to the DM, about things the other players would not see.... little did I know, but a guy dressed as a cleric in the back of the party, was actually a Mage, who had enough Telekinesis, to grab the troll, and bring him back to the trail...

So... yes... Trolls do apparently bounce.

Don't ask me how I know this.
Posted by: Cicero (@cicero43) at June 03, 2022 10:22 PM (XG2Fi)

In a tricycle config main gears are designed to take ~100% of ramp/takeoff/landing weight. You'd like the nose to take almost nothing. But you need the nose to at least take enough to prevent tip/back and to provide nose wheel steering. And nose wheels generally have a centering mechanism that requires some weight on it before steering is even active because you're still steering with rudder at higher speeds. Main gear's highest load and what they're designed by is CFR part 23/25 2G taxi or the turning reg. The nose gear is going to be designed by the quasistatic "dynamic" braking reg because of the pitch acceleration. The towing regs will be some intermediate design conditions. The actual dynamic landing regs will design some parts of the gear components like seals and braces and stuff. But the tires/wheels are all designed to the max effort braking and load/speed/time tests.

They have several "country houses", and I remember reading some security guards laughing about the Queen and Philip were just like some old married couple. They'd just patrol the grounds, and let the couple be.

One of them mentioned how Philip was mad because he misplaced his car keys. "Where'd I put my bloody keys?".

The Queen shot back, "How should I know? They're where you last put 'em down!"

Philip loved Range Rovers (he specified one for his hearse), and used to get out and drive around in the country all the time.

There at last, he pulled out straight in front of some woman, caused a wreck, flipped over his Range Rover as well as totalling the other car. The woman, who had a baby in the car with her, were uninjured.

At that point, they realized it was time to have the talk with grandpa and take the car keys away. The explained how bad it could've been if the woman and child were injured or killed. Scandal big time, and he relented.

324 Cicero that airport was fun, for landing. Reference markers on buildings for the pilots. In CONUS, Lindbergh here in SD usually gets rated most exciting by airline pilots, but it's really not that bad, just a descent over urban area on sloping terrain. There are great approach/landing videos on UToob, forget name of the channel, at airports all over the world.

All of the airports in the former USSR were in flat conventional terrain. It was the performance take-offs that were exciting. Or climbing down onto a truck flatbed in the dark in lieu of an air-stair (Tbilisi), in winter. No "buh-byes" from the flight attendants.

The old Hong Kong airport in Kowloon was a thrill ride. Posted by: Cicero (@cicero43) at June 03, 2022 11:52 PM (XG2Fi)

Once a plane is on the ground rolling the nose gear isn't going to fail that way unless there's been a downlock failure. They'll fail their oleo-pneumatics and ride metal on metal with blown tires but still work before ever getting to failure. Side loads from turning won't fail them either because steering will fail first and the nose gear will just castor away. Now hitting something and drag shearing the nose gear off can happen. Mains can fail from turning or other large downward forces but that's because they're often installed under wetted fuel bays and you have to design their attachments with fuse pins so they'll shear off before they could rupture a tank.

I remember some telling my about my father one time. He used to go to a Hardee's in town, which had become something of a morning hang-up for the old coots. They'd get some biscuits and coffee and hang out.

They said one time my father walked in, and just had the walking farts all the way up to the counter and then back to the table.

They said he was completely oblivious.

354 I've read some interesting stories about Chuck Yeager. At one time he pretty much WAS the Air Force, or could do just about whatever he wanted anyway.

There's a cool story about beer runs and aircraft. Another one, Chuck liked to go backpacking. Improbable I thought, but it's true. Mostly I think he liked to go fishing in remote areas in the Sierra. After about 10 days everybody was tired of fish, so he arranged for somebody to get a plane from Muroc and airdrop some steaks in, which were always well received.

One time as a joke, they put frozen fish sticks in a second cooler and parachuted that in. The wind blew it in a ravine, and Chuck and the guys spent a long time getting to that cooler of frozen fish sticks. Boy were they were pissed off about that! Thankfully another cooler of steaks landed front and center.

Hoping the F-35 driver will be at the handgun match tomorrow. He was the source of very interesting info a few years back before his squadron transitioned from F-18s, and I'm curious about his perspective on what he used to say.

Posted by: rhomboid at June 03, 2022 11:44 PM (OTzUX)

Whereas civil has to design for a R/S of 10 fps. Meaning, the aircraft has a downward velocity of 10 feet per second at landing impact, which is already very conservative, no sane pilot would do that, the navy has an additional requirement to account for sea-state heave of the "ground" coming up to hit the aircraft. The vectors add up and you get a huge impact velocity and thus beefier structure.

IIRC, the F-14 was of a similar nosegear layout? I'm not sure when the Navy started using a nosegear shuttle and holdback launch system (F-4 Phantom?), but it quickly proved superior in every way to the earlier captive-bridle system. Now, I've never seen a video of a bridle that failed to release it's airplane, but surely there's some on record?

382 banana Dream. All true, but a good look at the F/A-18 (any marque) nosegear, clearly shows that it's massively robust to withstand the stresses of the catapult launch evolution.

Yes, navy nose gear is completely different. The only fwd shear force you are going to design a civil aircraft for is towing and jacking. There's no other way to operationally get a fwd shear on civil. And you also have to design navy aircraft for tail hook landing loads by that I mean the large pitch acceleration and downward force on the nose on arresting. Although proper placement of the tow-hook in your design can help mitigate a good bit of that.

386 Caught up on Obi-Wan. It's not as bad as folks are saying.

Young Leia is played well. Precocious, willful, and defiant, yes, but not over the top for a ten-year-old. If she's a little haughty and demanding toward her rescuer, well, that's how Carrie Fisher played her in the original Star Wars. Here those traits are noticeable but not overplayed. She's still sweet and vulnerable at times. I found myself liking her more as the show went on.

Obi-Wan hasn't "forgotten" how to use the Force, he's just avoided it for ten years to keep from being discovered. If you don't use a muscle or talent for ten years, it atrophies. Even then, he's still a capable fighter and even shows off some hand-to-hand combat skills. I'm not seeing him being stomped by some new character.

Moses Ingram isn't a great actress, but she's not terrible either. Same for the other inquisitors, actually. Not offensively bad like Rose Tico or Jar-Jar, just dull and not imposing. I don't buy the rumor she's been getting racist hate-mail. That seems like fake social media outrage marketing. But I also don't get the vibe that she's being set up to be a hero.

I like it so far. Your mileage may vary.

387 >> I'm wondering because since I spent almost my entire adult life as a night walker.

Ditto, although with me, the rheumatoid arthritis thing just made it worse.

There's even a name for night walkers -- Delayed sleep phase disorder, although it may not be a disorder, just a variation, probably genetic.

This describes the difference between morning people and night people pretty well. It's likely a normal phase that teenagers go through, as we all know, and it seems most mammals do this after puberty as well.

With some of us, that just doesn't go away once it kicks in at puberty. :-)

410 banana dream. Figure in also. The Civil Aviation Standard Glideslope is 2 degrees, with a flared landing.

Naval Carrier glideslope is 4 degrees, with absolutely no flareout before touchdown. The pilot SLAMS the plane onto the deck, trusting the arresting gear to catch, and going to full afterburner at touchdown in case the arresting gear, doesn't.

I've watched a Phantom practice carrier touchdowns at the NAB at Yuma, AZ. The lack of a flare upon landing was.. disturbing, until I gained wisdom.

I thought they were going to break the airplane, and then they went around the pattern and did it again. And again.

Kinda felt sorry for the pilot and I.P. They was getting knocked about, something fierce.

It can but I'm sure there are a bunch of other design constraints. I knew someone that ran simulations for tailhook arrested landings for a navy program and there are a bunch of complications like potential bounces and other things that are failure states before you even get to making sure the structure is strong enough.

There was a stormtrooper with a female voice, felt jarring and out of place, like you just knew they were patting themselves on the back about it. Little things like that. In the Delayed Sleep Phase thing, they find that all the circadian rhythm cycles are phase shifted relative to local sun time.

It can be "treated" with a lot of work in some cases, but not all. If your natural circadian rhythm is phase-shifted, then it's phase shifted.

My own body knows when it thinks it time to sleep, and when it's time to wake. All out of phase, but it's regular and clock work, just greatly phase shifted.

A lot of the current "end times" thinking looks at current day signs that we are going through tribulation, earthquakes, scary stuff. But Christians (allegedly, per the Bible) don't face that. We have promises that apply now ... the victory was won "on Calvary", recognized on Pentacost. We don't just suffer and die until then, despite our imperfections. America (the real America) showed us that. I just think most of that is defeatist thinking.

Speaking of Big Jake, I thought he must weigh 17 lbs by now. But took him to the vet to get his shots and dewormed, and he had lost weight, 14.7 lbs or something like that.

He's a big cat, very muscular, and the vet said, hell, 14 lbs is lean and mean for him. He should weigh 14 to 15 lbs, or even a little more.

About a year ago, Jake actually drug up a full grown rabbit he had caught. He couldn't pick him up, so he just drug him. Damndest thing.

He's a killing machine. He'll catch YUGE field mice (voles) and eat 'em basically whole. Little ones are just a snack he swallows in one bite.

A while back, Miley got a laser pointer out to play with the kittens and Jake came in and got into it. I actually saw him in killing machine mode. That pointer activated the predator circuits.

His pupils nearly filled his whole eye sockets. His paws spread wide, and he was lightning. His paws were right on top of the red dot no matter what.

I wonder if I could successfully wire a high energy, high voltage fence like that. I'm only a low-voltage 'lectrician, but I have aspirations for the real wiring, like Mrs. Duke's lineman do.

There's a funny legos movie where the heroes are trying to get some "Ultimate Weapon" to defeat the bad guy. When they get it finally it looks like a wicked giant bazooka or something. But when they fired it at the bad guy all that happened is a red dot appeared on the bad guy and the heroes are like "huh?" Then you hear a loud earth-shaking roar and a giant city-sized kitten comes out and attacks the red dot. It's pretty funny how they set it up.

With high voltage (which, for electrician certified purposes is "over 600V", although that's just sort of margin of safety factor) you don't just splice wires together with wire nuts and cram them in a junction box.

No. With 7200V, or higher, that would be disastrous. Really, the limit is probably about 2000V to ground. Below that, the wire nuts and the cramming together wouldn't be dangerous, but that would be the limit.

A good rule of thumb is that if anything is an insulator, that is doesn't readily conduct current, it's good to about 2 kV. Usually, and generally. Above that, and it's another story.

Seriously, I could wire up a real kill you dead, high voltage, high energy electric fence. I mean, touch it, and you fry.

I would just need to series up some transformers, and would have to do some "higher voltage tricks" to keep that from arcing over, but it could be done easily with readily available materials.

The only problem would be killing things you didn't want to kill, like myself. Not to mention the cats.

You could do that, but it would take some much more sophisticated electronic engineering. Basically an inverter to drive a high voltage output. A simple LC ringer tank circuit with a clicker could do it. The idea is to have enough energy to kill something. It can be done. Much simpler with AC and transformers.

The deer haven't got in there yet. Last time, a single fence layer kept them out pretty well until late, when it got close to rutting season. They got a little frisky and jumped it.

So, this time, I'm going with a double layer. That is, two fences, 6' apart, surrounding the whole thing. Deer will jump, but they do not like to be trapped in a tight space.

The idea of an electric fence is to scare them. They come up, checking it out, get popped, and that scares them off.

Deer can jump very high. You'd need at least a 10' high regular fence to have any chance of keeping them from jumping it.

You know, it's out of deer season, so illegal to kill deer. However, there is a nuisance law. If it's in so many feet of a residence, you can kill at will. Beyond that limit, you're supposed to apply for a permit to kill a nuisance deer or other wild animal problem.

Our garden would be in the safe limit of my parents, house, I think. But no Miley and my house. So a game warden could give some flack, if he wanted to.

521 Now do 'All' vs. 'Oil'.

Posted by: Mike Hammer, etc., etc. at June 04, 2022 02:19 AM (dx9uU)

I thought 'oil' was one of the titles of nobility below a duke.

(That would be 'earl' for you non-rednecks.)

True story. Now my ex was fluent in English, Spanish, and French, could speak Italian and understand Portuguese.

My ex and I were flying to my usual southern WV Thanksgiving with that part of the family. We were picked up at the Roanoke airport by my Mom, Dad and an Uncle (by marriage). Being a polite hillbilly, Uncle Milton started talking to her, asking her questions. She turned to me and had a look of horror in her eyes. She said she didn't understand a word he said. When I told Milton she didn't understand him, I'll never forget his 'Ah, hay-ell, wha-eye din't she jus' sah-ay that?' (Which I had to translate to her.)

So a girl who was multilingual could not understand WV hillbilly. I always found that funny. She couldn't understand old school North Carolina Ocracokian, either. When I'm down south too long, parts of my Suh'thun accent quickly and easily start to creep back into my speech patterns. The first thing to always come back is y'all.

Interesting story about my cousin. My uncle wanted him to go to college, but he didn't want to and ran off and joined the Air Force after high school. That's where he got into weather, and became a meteorologist. He had some degrees and credentials from that, but I don't know what. But wasn't any Ph.D level.

He was an observational/empirical type, not theoretical. He does have a minor claim to fame. He discovered some tornado predictive pattern, which is called some "S-pattern", something like that. On some graph of various parameters, think of a "heat map" type display, there is something that looked like an S shape.

Now, this was predictive of tornado spawn in certain specific circumstances, not some big general thing. Under certain conditions, this S shape is predictive of tornado activity of a certain type.

He wrote that up and published it. The theoretical guys took note and investigated. They found that it made sense according to theory, and developed a theoretical frame-work for it.

Now, as my cousin sort of lamented, this S-pattern thing bears the name of the theoretical guys, the Ph.Ds who developed the model.

Cousin said the early papers all credited him as the actual discover of the S-pattern thing. But as it developed and became accepted, his name just dropped out of it, and it's now named after the theoretical guys who first published the theory of it, based on his observational publishing.

I remember those from the trucking companies I dealt with. Most of the product was at a delivered price. But, when fuel got crazy, the surcharges would kick in. The buyers at corporate would then have to update all of the contracts in the computer system or give people like me the permissions to okay them.

Fun times.

My son took me to see it last night for my birthday. Great flick! Saw it in a larger theater on a 60 foot screen, equipped with Dolby Atmos sound system. Outstanding! The audience actually applauded at the end, something I haven't seen in may years. This theater is also equipped with full recliners with trays for your goodies, so the movie could be viewed in real comfort.

The action was nonstop, and the fact that the actors were actually in the fighter planes made it all the more realistic. Don't miss the chance to see this on the big screen. I may go see it again. And no 'woke' BS either.
