Saturday Morning Coffee Break & Prayer Revival

64c0ffee.jpg

(H/T That cuddly little cob CBD)

Happy 1st Saturday of June you wonderful galoots. Just remember the simple Coffee Break Rules:

1) Opine and/or bloviate in this open thread.
2) Be nice to one another.
3) No running with sharp objects.
4) Have a nice weekend if you so decide.

***

As our pal Hrothgar says, "I knew this." Thanks for the submission.

Folks who take their coffee with a little cream and sugar have reason to rejoice, health-wise.

A new study shows that coffee's potential health benefits persist, even if you add a bit of sugar to your java.

AoSHQ Weekly Prayer List

Please submit any prayer requests to me, “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo atsign hotmail dot com. Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks unless we receive an update.

Prayer Requests:
2/12 – D asked for prayers for John Rogers and his family. John was diagnosed with liver cancer last week and is at stage 3. He is not doing well and any prayers for him and his family would be appreciated. His daughters are 8, 11, and 14. A “GoFundMe” has been established if anyone wishes to contribute: https://gofund.me/1fe7aabb
5/6 Update – John is home and the treatments for cancer are helping him keep food down. He has lost a lot of weight, but his faith is getting him through this. Everyone is very grateful for the prayers being sent their way. They are still waiting to see if this is just one cancer they are dealing with or two, but it is liver cancer for sure.
5/12 Update – John had to go back to the hospital because of issues with the treatments he has been taking. They are now also dealing with a blood clot in his kidney.

5/2 – creeper sends a request that a fellow blogger needs our prayers. MOTUS is fighting two brain tumors, metastasized from esophageal cancer.
http://www.michellesmirror.com/2022/05/a-motus-health-update.html#.Ym_kIExOn1I

5/27 – B asks for prayers for Brett, who may have pancreatic cancer, that he would get a favorable prognosis.

5/28 – FortWorthMike requests prayers for his grandniece, Chloe, and her family, to find a kidney to transplant. Chloe is a toddler who has been on this prayer list before, and it has helped her. She was born with bad kidneys and had them removed soon after birth. She’s had multiple health issues, and is now getting daily dialysis at home. Her mother’s kidneys aren’t a match, and her father’s are a match, but are too large for her little body. Thanks for your prayers!

5/28 – Ladyl requests prayers for a very special person in her life who has been diagnosed with a fairly treatable leukemia. Although Mike is over 29, he is nonetheless a young man. She would appreciate prayers for complete healing and optimal management of his disease.

5/29 – MammaB is off work for several weeks per her doctor’s instructions for mental health. She is supposed to go back on Tuesday and is an apprehensive wreck. Between her dad’s death in January, having Chinese covid twice since then, and her bipolar, she feels overwhelmed. But she is the sole wage early (PapaB is on disability for early onset dementia) and unemployment isn’t an option. Any prayers would be appreciated.

5/31 – Prayers are needed for Fenelon Spoke, who had surgery this week for cancer. She is recovering at home.

6/1 – Prayers are requested for a 3-year-old named Eli, who just had 2 brain surgeries for a rare vascular condition. Please pray for Eli’s recovery.

6/2 – Prayers are needed for Squid, whose life has imploded over the last twelve hours, and any prayers for peace would be greatly appreciated.

For submission guidelines and other relevant info, please contact Annie's Stew, who is managing the prayer list. You can contact her at apaslo at-sign hotmail dot com. If you see a prayer request posted in a thread comment, feel free to copy and paste it and e-mail it to Annie's Stew. She tries to keep up with the requests in the threads, but she's not here all of the time, so she may not see it unless you e-mail it to her. Please note: Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks or so unless we receive an update.

Romans 8:26-27
26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.

It's the hour when my 29-year-old bladder insists that I get up (stupid bladder has no concept of "weekends"), and it's *just* too late to easily go back to sleep, so I give up and make coffee.

Prayers of thanksgiving for a near hit yesterday. The little boy I babysit was at home playing in the yard when a monster branch fell from one of the trees and just brushed him. No warning and simply broke off and rained down. No injuries at all (he didn't even cry) but his mother saw it all and absolutely became unglued.

Come to find out this tree has been shedding branches routinely. The tree is being taken out today - guys are on site.

29 fun news item - the House Republican who last week said he would support banning "assault weapons" yesterday announced his retirement. Chris Jacobs, R-NY, and was actually honest about the fact that it was his call for gun control that had suddenly ended his political career. Odds of any legislation being passed by the Senate just dropped precipitously, although John Cornyn is still pushing some kind of Red Flag law for some reason.

Libs are "outraged" at this statement made in 2016 by Palodino (but this make him my New Fave Candidate of 2022!)
In an interview with an "alternative" news outlet in 2016, he was asked who he would most like to see go in 2017, and Palodino replied "Michelle Obama. I'd like to see her return to being a male and let loose in the outback of Zimbabwe where she lives comfortably in a cave with Maxie, the gorilla."

He had spoken to the FBI Wednesday and told them if they were going to charge him to call him and he would turn himself in. Navarro literally lives in an apartment NEXT DOOR TO THE FBI!"

Posted by: Connielu at June 04, 2022 08:47 AM (dlVlc)

Yes...Ryobi. The weed eaters and trimmers run for about 35-45 minutes off of a battery charge, the blower less so as it really uses up the charge...about 20 minutes. Just buy 3 or 4 batteries and have them all charged and ready to go and as you use one up swap it into the charger so you have it ready to go as you work. Less property the less batteries you will need. 2 at least though.

More coffee.

98 One downside to Ryobi's packaging. They often sell the larger lawn tools with that little dinky-dink 1.somethinga mp-hour battery included.

We have about 5 of the much larger 4.5 amp hour batteries and four chargers mounted on the garage wall. The weed eater and the blower REALLY need the larger battery. It then becomes the rather long lasting device that we all thought we were buying. Same with the blower.

117 > Has anybody converted to battery yard tools?
___________

I use my cordless (battery) yard tools "occasionally." I have 5 acres and don't really give a shit what most of it looks like. That being said I do have 3 tools from Lowes in house "Kobalt" brand that all use the same batteries; a push mower, a small garden tiller and a string-trimmer. There are other brands, perhaps better, perhaps not, but I wanted one charger and multiple batteries for the same tools. Cords were a non-starter here anyway.

The trimmer works great but it's not as powerful as a gas one. The mower is good for about 15 - 30 minutes of mowing but it depends on how aggressive you are with it. The tiller is fine for my wife to muck about in the veggie garden.

That being said; pre-mixed 2-cycle oil/gas is available in most common ratios.

The 18v batteries are frustrating. I've had much better luck leaving them dead after use and charging them up for maybe 24 hours right before next use. Leaving them charging 24/7 seems to cook them and they die before their time. This is for the B/D version.

I tried zapping the malfunctioning batteries with a charged up electrolytic cap, and this actually works, but the effect is only temporary. Maybe more investigation is warranted.

I have the biggest, most expensive Craftsman weedeater and blower and chainsaw (40V?). Like them a lot, and the weedeater will run on one battery for 1/2-1 acre lot or so depending on how high you let it get. The blower and chainsaw are not for all-day work, but do great for "I need to take care of this quick job this morning" stuff.

Here's the problem. The batteries fail and you can't get replacements. I've had two die, and Craftsman has told me outright that they won't honor the five year warranty because they can't get the batteries.

So tip from someone who has been there for five years: Go ahead and buy the gas powered ones, and buy good ones that will last. Spend the money for the Honda or Husqvarna or whatever it is you like. Because you're going to spend that money when you buy them to replace the battery powered new tools, anyway.

(And we're all going to switch to battery powered electric cars soon, with the same result except for the ability to buy gas ones)

The "You are enough" and "Come as You Are" leaves out the second part "Stay as You Came" since these statements make noble the slacker, narcissistic attitude that I Am Perfect And Need No Improvement.

The PSA test may give false-positive results. A false-positive test result occurs when the PSA level is elevated but no cancer is actually present. A false-positive test result may create anxiety and lead to additional medical procedures, such as a prostate biopsy, that can be harmful. Possible side effects of biopsies include serious infections, pain, and bleeding.

False-positive test results are common with PSA screening; only about 25% of people who have a prostate biopsy due to an elevated PSA level are found to have prostate cancer when a biopsy is done (2).

I'm the lucky 25% with a positive result on all 13 biopsy samples after having multiple PSA tests months apart.

One way or the other, a biopsy is going to have to be done if one's PSA keeps increasing over time.

Steps can be taken to minimize infection, and anxiety over the procedure. It's uncomfortable, like a colonoscopy, but actually not painful (go figure).

My two cents...

A company I worked for had a major project to produce ethanol by hydrogenating acetic acid, which had its basis in syngas. We actually had a production plant going before the suits shut it all down.

I suggested as a conjunct making ETBE as an oxygenate, since it has much lower solubility in water and doesn't have the corrosive problems ethanol has. As with all my suggestions over 35 years, it was not well received.

I think they're one of those critters that sort of prehistoric, but I wouldn't want to be grabbing one by the back of its neck and tossing it out the door. I admire that woman's pluck.

We saw a fox in the early morning
crossing the field today. And crossing the road in front of our car. Clever animals too, I don't have any guns and I wouldn't want to be wrestling with a fox either. It was very lovely though and we had a good view.

Definitely. When the late Mrs. Borgia and I were furnishing our first home, we had a friend whose husband worked at Sears (that's how long ago this was... Sears Kenmore appliances were still first-rate at that time).

He hooked us up with a washer and dryer set that actually did have a small ding on the side of the dryer, but as it happened in our setup that side of the dryer was against a wall, and thus not visible at all.

At > 50% off, we decided that an effectively invisible ding was something we could live with.

422 I believe only battery powered lawn tools can be sold in NYS after a few years. That includes cars, trucks, tractors. Local police were told to buy only electric cars, (by local environmentalists) but the police said no electric car available could work as a police car, and besides the cars run 24/7, so how are they going to be recharged?

442 @437 Clearing out the late grandparents' basement, where history had ended in 1960, I found a Jacobsen engined 2-stroke belt drive reel mower, and thought it would be cute to diagnose it. I put a little light oil mixture down the bore, spun it to prove spark, brushed the plug -- and that sumbitch started on the first pull.

I couldn't use it on my lawns though. The drive ratio was too high, and it wanted to mow at a fast trot. I put it out with a For Sale sign, hoping for a vintage home for it, and it was stolen. I wish luck to that sorry SOB. Bet he's missing some fingers by now.

Years ago, when we placed an old-but-still-working fridge at the curb with a "Free To Good Home" sign, it sat there for a week ... However, when we changed the sign to "$75 or best offer", it was gone within 48 hours ... Yep, people in general are a challenge to understand, but some often make me chuckle!
