The Morning Report - 6/2/22

fatherfather.jpg

Good morning, kids. Thursday and there was another shooting incident this time at a Tulsa, OK medical center. Five dead including the gunman, as well as multiple injuries. The media is likely not going to be all over this since the shooter has been identified as “a Black male between 35-40 years old.” If it doesn't further the narrative or sends the wrong signals, it's to be embargoed or otherwise rewritten if possible. You know the drill.

No matter. The constant drumbeat of guns, the Second Amendment and the NRA among other straw men as the cause(s) of mass shootings has always been loud in the wake of these incidents. But Uvalde has cranked it up to a whole new level. Why? Aside from being used as a distraction from the disaster of the Sponge Brain Shits Pants era, for whatever reason, the self-evident logic that guns cannot kill unless a human being pulls the trigger has finally sunk in to the populace at large. And that has caused said populace to want to ask the question of motive. Yes, you'd have to be out of your mind to kill someone let alone nearly two dozen unarmed children. But how did you get to be crazy in the first place? That is a question that the Left does not even want asked, let alone answered. And not only the Left, but too many supposed "conservatives" who get a slice of the grift for playing along.

The shooters, the mass murderers, even most of the terrorists, and essentially all violent criminals (plus many drugs addicts and a majority of the homeless) share this one quality: they are all fatherless.

And no, fatherlessness is not intractable.  These destructive and self-destructive adolescents are not victims of impersonal forces that defy remedy — still less of "irresponsible" fathers who "abandon" them, as the political class invariably reports without evidence.  These falsehoods provide the politicians with excuses to throw up their hands in despair or devise useless, self-serving programs that actually make the problem worse.  The shooters are the products of government policies that intentionally remove children from their fathers and proliferate single-mother homes.  They are the offspring of the two hostaeries that breed fatherless children: the welfare state and the divorce industry.

The social science is unequivocal.  Virtually every major social pathology can be laid at the door of fatherless homes and communities — not race, not poverty.  Single parent homes.  That means crime, truancy, addiction, and more single parents.

Decade after decade, the problem only worsens until we are left with not only social chaos, but, increasingly, political chaos, too, and even tyranny.  It is easily demonstrable that the BLM riots in 2020 that prepared the way for the leftist takeover of the U.S. government were perpetrated by dysfunctional, violent, and fatherless adolescents.

. . . Conservatives do have a better explanation readily at hand — the only one.  It is a stock conservative platitude that family breakdown will mean civilizational breakdown.  Yet now that it is happening, they ignore the fulfillment of their own prophecies.  Instead, they enact pointless programs designed by the liberals: fatherhood and marriage "promotion," psychotherapy, child support enforcement, and other make-work for functionaries.

Why?  Because "fatherhood" and "pro-family" groups also make money on these programs that do more harm than good.  Because Republican lawyers (including "Christian" ones) amass huge sums looting families through divorce.  Because conservative leaders fear feminists and lack the spine to stand up to them.  Because vast powers accrue to judicial operators, including Republican ones, as the divorce juggernaut systematically rolls over every limitation on expanding judicial power.

This is quite a good essay but the author does not even mention the weekly Uvaldes happening in inner cities from coast to coast that has been going on for years. Horrible and horrendous as these mass shootings are, despite happening more and more frequently since the name Columbine ingrained itself on our collective memories, they are statistically rare occurrences. Fatherlessness, and all the other pathologies that go along with it are a direct outgrowth of the massive welfare state created by LBJ in 1965. Whether LBJ believed "the (you-know-whos) will be voting for us for 200 years" because their lives would have been improved or because he knew they'd be re-enslaved via the welfare state is irrelevant.

Nearly 60 years on, black America has been devastated and now, thanks to radical feminism, radical homosexuality and radical transexuality, the traditional family — with the traditional male at the head of the table — has been targeted for termination. We are starting to reap the whirlwind of psychological and even physical castration of men and boys who have been demonized, marginalized and stripped of any meaning, purpose or even dignity in this topsy turvy society that the radical left have created.

Does this excuse the actions of this shooter and all the other shooters? No. Just as the gun didn't shoot itself, neither did "society" pull the trigger. But society, mostly of "The Great" variety surely did play a significant role in creating the monsters that perpetrate these acts, whether its Uvalde, Columbine, Marjorie Stoneman Douglas HS, or Cabrini Green, Compton, East St. Louis or half a hundred other hell holes that make Mogadishu look like the Hamptons by comparison.

Along with every other issue that, sooner or later, is turning into an existential crisis, who will pick up the mantle and call out the Left on their hypocrisy and culpability? Andrew Breitbart's axiom of politics being downstream of culture is certainly in effect here, just as it is with abortion, transgenderism and other issues that are political winners for our side not just with the base but with growing numbers of disaffected Democrats. If you think it's the GOP, think again.

Usually, it’s the typical cast of characters who attempt to strip Americans of our constitutional rights: Democrats like Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi, and Chuck Schumer. But this time, instead of standing firm against the slimy hands of Washington’s most politically shameless, unprincipled Republicans are also rallying to support a new national gun control regime, with the potential for a renewed federal assault weapons ban, more unconstitutional background checks, and a national red flag law.

Miranda Devine has quite a good column today, and without saying it, she delivers a clarion call for American men, and by extension America itself, to grow a pair.

We ignore the crisis that sees men commit suicide at ever-increasing rates or succumb to drug abuse and porn addiction while savvy young women graduate from college in disproportionate numbers. Trained from childhood to be entitled and unrealistic about relationships, their fertility and the sacrifices and joys of motherhood, many become bitter and blame men for their confusion.

Along the way, we emasculate the institutions that were necessarily masculine for our protection, notably the military. As an example, on Wednesday, the US Marines celebrated Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Intersex Pride Month by tweeting a picture of a combat helmet adorned with rainbow-colored bullets.

So, what do men do? They recoil and retreat. They leave the stage for hysterical epsilon men like Beto O’Rourke who whine and posture but can’t protect a thing.

Then when we need strong, quick-thinking Gary Cooper to save us from outlaws, he’s nowhere to be found.

He has been rendered extinct, leaving 19 kids to be slaughtered inside a classroom while men and women wearing the legacy costume of toxic masculinity stand around waiting for orders.

“We make men without chests and expect from them virtue and enterprise,” C.S. Lewis foretold in his dystopian 1943 book The Abolition of Man.

“We laugh at honor and are shocked to find traitors in our midst. We castrate and bid the geldings be fruitful.”

19 With few exception, I can point to every single mom kid in school. We have a lot of intact families out here in rural Kansas. But a lot of rot as well.

When I worked in the city of Manhattan, for some of the kids, I was the only adult male that even paid the slightest attention to them. The boys in particular needed, and sometimes heeded, my advice, but my observations seem to surprise them.

Peer pressure is strong for people that you know will be in trouble. I used to guess which of my poorly self-controlled students would be in jail as an adult. I could see this even in 3rd graders, the ones from very dysfunctional families.

58 So let me get this straight: our talking points ought to be constructed to look very similar to the Left's and that is to substitute "patriarchy" is the problem and respond with "matriarchy" as the problem.

I always figured that this is what it looks like when society rejects God. I subscribe to the Doctrines of Grace which includes the concept of Election. That is, we are all awful sinners (many are over achievers), not a one of us seeks God, but that some are inexplicably chosen by God to become His followers/examples.

Therefore, I have zero expectations on the reprobates to act well, only for as much as they maintain a false piety (sort of pretending to be good as virtue signaling) that just so happens is a social positive.

73 No. 5: How can we afford all this? I've argued from day one it was a disastrous decision and tragic mistake to give another $40 billion to Ukraine. We need to worry about America. We could have used that $40 billion here at home. Half of it ($20 billion) should have been used to pay for armed security at every school in America.

America hate our kids but love Ukrainians.

87 Morning peeps.

Personally I don't think the rejection of God is the singular reason we're going down the shitter. An awful lot of the nation's problems are of our own making and will require strong willed people with purpose to set right... if they have the fortitude to do so.

Many have put their faith in the politicians and the processes surrounding them in the hope they will set things right. The thing is, politicians thrive on your misery and enjoy the fruits of the status quo.

Until that changes nothing does.

But where does that sentiment come from? Where is it modeled? Right Now, depravity is celebrated. An entire month of sin and sexual perversion is devoted to the destruction of family and traditional values. Memorial Day, which is a joke now, was about five minutes, at best, of "Yeah, people died to preserve your freedom...lets go eat." What does "freedom" mean anymore? How is it somehow noble to sacrifice for something that isn't valued or even understood?

With a knowledge of God, people have a connection with that which transcends, has purpose and is everlasting, not that which is temporal, vain and vanishing.

1. End no-fault divorce. Children need *both* parents.
2. In the case that the father is not in the picture (single mother with a "baby daddy", a woman after a divorce), tie mom's WIC and other government assistance to the father's child support (reducing the amount of money the government gives mom when dad is paying, but not giving her anything if she doesn't know who dad is so he can be on the official hook for child support).

Which is odd, because socially the gangland violence in the inner city slums has been well studied and correlates very, very strongly with fatherless households. When subjectively studied, the young men (usually early teenagers) who hook up with the gangs cite as reasons things like protection, leadership, having someone on their side, group cohesion, etc. - all things that the home and family should be providing, but can't (usually) without a father present.

And they still could, in point of fact. Many of them still try, to their credit, but people like the idea of the Government providing for them because they are "entitled" instead of dealing with any charity - especially a church - where they would have to admit that they're being given something they don't deserve and haven't earned.

One of the major benefits of private charity is that people hate it - they hate accepting charity. In general, it makes them feel like, not to put too fine a point on it, losers. The vast majority, not wanting to feel like losers but also not wanting to freeze or starve to death, find a way to contribute to their own well-being until eventually they don't need charity anymore.

The best ones then keep growing and start giving to charities, both because they know what it's like to be cold and hungry AND because it lets them feel like, in some way, they're repaying the kindness they already received.

167 The folks who don't want the nuclear family because it's "too normal" fail to realize that such things are traditional because they work. They demand that their unique relationship configuration be just as stable and happy as traditional families and they think that it's society's fault that reality isn't bending to their will.

"traditional" means that it has a history. If it has a history, then it means it perseveres over time and the baggage of calamities, natural and otherwise that occur.

It should be a grim reminder that what the Left is advocating now is not "traditional", that is, it has no history because it can't be sustained.

There is no "tradition" of sodomy, transexualism, abortion and single parent households. Its social death.

That's a part of it, I think, but another major factor - and it's likely related, and possibly even just a restatement of the same concept - is that private charity is *personal.* It's you going to another person and asking for help, and usually not being able to do so anonymously (like how a street corner panhandler is anonymous). You go as yourself and ask for help.

With government - or probably even with a private national mega-charity - it's all safely depersonalized. The person who processes your paperwork is just a cog in a grand machine. The benefit you're given has been safely laundered and thoroughly depersonalized. It's just money, and you're just a recipient. Every person is just a cog in his respective machine.

179 But make no mistake, it's women who are to blame.

I think there's plenty of blame to go around.

The government gets most of my ire because people are going to people, there's nothing new about that and people haven't really changed in the last 6000 years.

Prostituting yourself (which is what most baby-mommas are doing, even if they don't think of it that way) has long been a way for single women to take care of their physical needs (shelter, food, water), and frequently leads to multiple children by many different fathers. The United States in the 20th and 21st centuries is far from unique in that respect.

Fathers or Husbands not wanting to stick around for the responsibility that goes along with marriage and children is also not new. It is often not the unwed mother who kicked out the man; he often heard "I'm pregnant" and went all Caspar.

The Government just makes all of it worse than it otherwise would be.

185 while savvy young women graduate from college in disproportionate numbers. Trained from childhood to be entitled and unrealistic about relationships, their fertility and the sacrifices and joys of motherhood, many become bitter and blame men for their confusion.

A smarter society would encourage women to get married and have children after HS. We live long enough that if you want a career as well there is more then enough time after your kids go to school. This best fits women's biology both fertility and energy to raise children.

And interestingly, that's what 50s America mostly did.

That would require an inversion of how things work now though where we tell women to go to college, build a career, then look for a husband and finally in your late 30s then have kids.

203 That said, it's based on some solid sociological evidence - going to church, even if you are not a believer yourself, has a lot of benefits. It's sort of like the link between dressing nicely and better behavior.

I need to thank my profession for the severe decay in office behavior. As the legend goes, computer programmers were defined as geeks because most of the good ones trend to being introverts, the best often are "on the spectrum". So when IT departments grew, and they were trying to find talent, the candidates were not known for hygiene and tailored suits.

Other departments saw that management accepted a category of people dressing as mendicants at the office and wanted to dress down too. One thing led to another and pretty soon we don't even bother to put on pants to attend Zoom meetings.

A husband they will find with decreasing frequency in aggregate. The numbers of acceptable men shrink as a woman moves up the status ladder (they marry up, not down) and desirability of women shrinks as they age. Finding a husband is much harder with this configuration. They way we've managed to set it up is a 1-2 punch against the odds of the plan ever working, even if the fertility curve was flat (it isn't).

I think that the ink was hardly dry on that before the Gary Condit affair surfaced. In neither Clinton's nor Condit's case did the families of the young women stand up and condemn the behavior of either.

I don't really blame the developers for that (being a developer *may* play into that, but I'm trying to be objective here). Management could always say "no" first to the developer, and then to the other departments.

The real issue, in my mind, is that most people never bother to understand *why* we do things the way we do, so they can never defend them properly. Then, when someone says "well, yeah, but *I'll* never be in front of a customer!" you have nothing but "stodgy traditionalism" to fall back on, and that just doesn't work. We do it because we've always done it is... not rigorously logical.

Society has done everything it can to suppress the natural female inclination to have and nurture children. We brainwash young women entering their most fertile years into thinking they're not fulfilled unless they have a career, we brainwash them into porn star fantasies, we drug them so they can't reproduce.

Then they wake up at 30 to find that even if they could find a man who wants them that they can't have what they really want. No wonder more than a few are nuts.

This. Women live longer than men, it would make more sense for women to live in harmony with their bodies: family in the 20/30s, and then a career from 40 - 70. But corporations want their expanded labor pool to drive wages down, and younger women don't seem to realize they are going to get older and decent men are scarce on the ground for older women. One of the reasons I've changed from libertarian to populist is big corporations are not just neutral, but actively oppose family formation and support.

I would go weeks without eating lunch because I could not face the shame of handing in that red ticket.

352 Good morning everyone.
Saint of the Day
St. Elmo (d. 303 AD), was an Italian bishop during the reign of Roman Emperors Diocletian and Maximian. During their brutal persecution against Christians, St. Elmo left his diocese and fled to Mount Lebanon where he lived for seven years. An angel advised him to return to his diocese in order to vanquish his enemies. As he traveled there he was stopped and questioned by Roman soldiers. After declaring himself to be a Christian, he was brought to stand trial before Diocletian himself. St. Elmo confessed his faith in Christ and denounced the emperor for his impiety. For this he was tortured and thrown into prison, but an angel freed him so that he could continue on his journey and save souls along the way. Tradition states he died at peace in Formia, though later accounts have him being martyred there by disembowelment. St. Elmo is the patron of mariners and sailors, abdominal pain, intestinal cramps, and women in labor. The electrical discharge on ships at sea, "St. Elmo's Fire," is named for him. His feast day is June 2nd.

It's more complicated than that, and I think you might be conflating cause and effect. Women starting entering the workforce en masse - including leaving children at home to do it - in the 70s, especially after 1974 and again during the Carter years.

A result of this was, yes, a major increase in workforce labor participation, but it was not itself - initially - a cause of lower wages. Lower wages forced the increase in employment, not the other way around. Wages were shrinking under the weight of inflation, and household finances were seriously strained. When faced with the failure of the household vs. women going to work, the women went to work. The "liberation" aspect was window-dressing until the boom years of the mid 80s through the late 90s, when those same women would have likely exited the workforce.

357 258 The numbers of acceptable men shrink as a woman moves up the status ladder (they marry up, not down) and desirability of women shrinks as they age. Finding a husband is much harder with this configuration. They way we've managed to set it up is a 1-2 punch against the odds of the plan ever working, even if the fertility curve was flat (it isn't).

364 Maybe some women want to have more to life than motherhood in their early 20s?

As with many things, its a choice. Do you want kids or 50 hours/week in a office and partying afterwards?

It seems most of those career minded women don't get that they are making a choice. They think they'll find Mr Right at exactly 35 - he'll be two rungs higher in the corporate hierarchy. They'll have two perfect kids at 36 and 38. He'll 50/50 raising the kids and still pull in his VP salary and she'll have the best nanny so she can still work and get promoted to VP eventually as well.

And when none of that happens they feel cheated. It isn't that no one pulls this off but it isn't really likely.

As long as they are making informed choices with their eyes wide open, it's not a problem. But most women genuinely don't realize how much their fertility declines, and how difficult it is to have baby after 40, IVF treatments only result in a live birth something like 5% of the time. If women want to take the risk that's great, but society keeps pushing this myth you can easily have babies with fertility treatments practically forever, and that isn't true.

But as you are doing it, you'll notice that it says you should not forsake gathering together. And you'll notice that it says you should take its message to the ends of the earth. And you'll notice exhortation to reach out to the unsaved.

It's not like reading books on WW2 or the Irish Potato Famine, that serve as a history book.

While I'm sympathetic to the that view, if you're planning on having kiddos and a family IMHO it's better to pop out a few kids, then pursue the career.

In any event, once the kids hit their teens, they don't particularly want you hovering around them anyway.

And the early training in what's right and proper will yield big bennies esp when those kids hit their teens, instead of leaving it up to unionized groomers to raise your children.

My own mother had a family in her early 20's, got a teaching degree in her mid 30's, and then had a very successful 25 year career as a private school educator, in which she eventually become one of the top administrators. That kind of career, and it was a pretty good one.

The mother of the little boy I watch (19 months) is 45. She waited until she was 42 to marry because career and world travel. She has spent 100s of thousands of $$ on IVF and fertility treatments with many failed implantations and medical issues stemming from it all.

"If you Church is rudderless, the answer isn't to leave the Church, it's to be the rudder using the revealed word and directives God has given you as your training manual."

Tony, it's deliberate. I remember the American Society of Reproductive Medicine tried to put out a series of PSA, explaining to women how age affected fertility. Feminists shrieked about it and the ASPM pulled the ads. Even freezing your eggs is not enough, you need to literally freeze 100 eggs to have a realistic shot at having a live birth. A lot of fertility clinics use numbers like conception, which is just getting the egg and sperm together, not live births, which is the stat you want. Saddest article I read a couple years ago was a woman who froze 30 eggs and wasn't able to have a baby. Fertility treatment is not a consumer service and it isn't engineering, it is not guaranteed and the odds are against you.

Finally I told him he had spent my entire life trying to break my spirit, and now he says that is wrong??? I was afraid of him my whole life! Possibly because he was an immune, and his upbringing had been really strict, but he was putty in my children's hands.

But the carping over how the people are failing to truly see the distinction between the parties only underscores the self-pitying tone of the administration and its leader at the moment.

Discipline from dads is different than discipline from moms. And that's a good thing.

And grandkids-grandparents are different animals entirely.

If American men decide to do that, the first thing they need to do is take on a government and culture that hates them and wants to drive them down.

506 I didn't realize the Methodists were so far gone. John Wesley would be horrified.

I suggest you deal with whoever accused you of that and don't bring it to me-who didn't.

John Wesley would be probably be on board with the Global Methodist Church which asserted its independence in May and has members from around the world and is more concerned with the Lordship of Jesus Christ, discipleship and making disciples than the latest thing in progressivism.

510 @507 Fenelon Spoke-Now you are going the gaslighting route? You piled on the accusation with commenter Christopher R Taylor, whom I squashed the issue with, but you doubled down on. I guess when you're not bearing false witness you are going to flat out deny what you did!?! You are worse than I thought Fenelon Spoke. You attack me upthread like I said something against you when I was speaking about the state of the church in general. I even mentioned that it is too bad it is like that. That is my opinion. Whats more is you with your behavior towards me and now denying you've accused me of anything pretty much validates my claim. The bad thing about the church is the people in it.

Now you are going to try the tactic of denial and accuse me of bringing shit to you when nothing upthread was aimed at you until you jumped in and started shit with me. You're completely nuts lady!

513 @511 Fenelon Spoke-No you are reading it and what pisses you off is you know I'm right. You are a bald face liar hiding behind a convenient memory. You remember damn good and well your white knighting and piling on with the abusive attitude towards women accusation that you did with CRT. I'm not making this shit up to get in a perpetual pissing contest with you. You are the one that started shit with me with your comment. No, I'm not a victim but I will fire back at your bullshit childish attacks for comments that had nothing to do with you.
