Old words, new words, clear words, warped words

newww words.jpg

Think people of the WW II generation knew
more of these words than we do?

Yesterday, I had to get some blood work done, and the online form for the lab had everyone choose "male" or "female". No "other", no "prefer not to state".

They have recently updated their website, making it more commercial and difficult to navigate, and I would have expected some wokeness, too. Is this a shocking breach, or does it reflect a difference between "sex" and "gender"? I have a hard time keeping up. But I guess the complex machinery that measures blood chemistry doesn't really care about your feelings.

* * * * *

I also have a hard time keeping up with "neopronouns", as for "fishgenders" and "cakegenders". Some of the pronouns seem to be nouns or verbs . . . Here is a recent entry at Libs of TikTok with a relatively polite person who recognizes that neopronouns are "hard for all of us".

From the comments:

They/them are living their best life.
Just leave them alone.
They have found happiness.

Like . . . I hear English words . . . but I can't understand anything being said. Fantasy shouldn't be allowed to complicate reality this much.

Genesis 11:7 KJV
The Lord said, "Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech."

Paint & King seem nice but when they're in the workforce if you don't do exactly what they say they'll get Crayon and Ruler & the other mob of activists to call your boss and complain that you make them feel unsafe and demand they fire you. It happened at Duke this week.

* * * * *

On a similar note (h/t Small Dead Animals), the knives are coming out for Ricky Gervais. Report from the UK, Patrick Christys, video at the link:

Comedian Ricky Gervais is the latest man, sorry, person to be in the firing line.

Isn't it funny that Ricky Gervais said various things about the Bible, and about God. I didn't find them funny, but I didn't want him cancelled for it. But it appears that these days, insulting an actual religion is not as bad as criticising the latest pseudo-religious cult. The cult of women with a penis.

You used to have to commit a child sex crime or something to get cancelled, although sometimes even that didn't do the job - just look at what went on at the BBC.

Anyway, the point is, you're only ever one wrong word away from never working again.

And it's always the so-called nice people isn't it? They don't just want you to lose your job, they want your wife to leave you, your kids to never talk to you again and I sometimes feel like they won't be satisfied until you're homeless, alone and foraging for cigarette butts outside a hospital smoking shelter, covered in your own urine shouting at pigeons.

And for what? The thing that really gets me is that what people get cancelled for these days are often not controversial views. In fact, it's their response to people who have overtly controversial views.

Like someone says they think we should have total open borders and the English Channel should look like a motorway for illegal immigrants...Then someone says, I don't really think that's a great idea. RACIST!

Someone says they think a 6ft 6in cross dresser with a massive penis should be allowed to be locked in a prison cell with a small woman...sorry, can I just politely suggest that I don't think this is a good idea: YOU MASSIVE TRANSPHOBE!

Can we all just calm down a bit please?

* * * * *

Meanwhile, Carl from The Lotus Eaters discusses language-and-manners perfectionists (for the Right) David French and people like him with David Reaboi. One theme: The Blue Republicans have given up on saving our civilization. Carl had not heard about the Blessings of Liberty.

Last week's Thread, May 21, From Pride to Progressive Pride. Why can't these oppressed groups just all get along? And why don't those Progressive dreams pan out the way they describe them in those nice ads?
Bill Maher suggests THINKING about gender identity! (Lefties later spit acid at him for a while, until Ricky Gervais . . . )

Agreed. Calling an exclamation mark (it's proper name) a "bang" is recent affectation, and I think it came from the coding world, where it is commonly used in non-English contexts. You also see "!=" used for "not equal". OK for coding, should never be used in human communication.

55 1980 was the first presidential election I was able to vote in. Missed NOT voting for Carter in 76 by a matter of weeks. I remember the optimism I felt and confidence he inspired. I really felt our country had taken a long term turn for the better. And - as with W and Trump the media viciously attacked both him and his policies. Reagan was routinely portrayed as a doddering fool, a warmonger and a dullard. His policies were going to get us into a nuclear exchange with the 'mighty' Soviet empire. How the elites fainted in terror when he called the soviets out for what they were - an evil empire.

Evil didn't end with the fall of the Berlin Wall. It lives among us in cancel culture, the rainbow mafia, wokeism and all the other modern day horrors. It's nothing new. Just the same old enemy with a twitter account instead of a white hood or a schwastica (sp?).

Live your lives boldly and savor the freedom that was paid for with those poor dear boys lives. Otherwise they will have died in vain.

Also, borborygmi is typically called 'stomach growling' but more often originates in the small intestine.

I'm sure it has some real-world applications, but most of us can go through life without ever making use of it. It's just one of those things that tend to make mathematics obscure for those forced to learn it.

Eh, I think it's because gays realize in their heart of hearts they stand outside the Grand Parade of Life.

That used to be a common belief among them. When is college, long ago and far away, the English dept was often shoving teh ghey lit in our faces.

There was a novel written by EM Forster IIRC titled "Maurice" wherein a gay dude writes a letter to his ex-lover, who's decided to get married to a girl and have a family and live a normal life. Teh ghey dude's letter is basically a big whinefest about how superior it is to stand apart from the Grand Parade of Life and enjoy oneself instead of toiling in a family, etc, etc. The main thing though is how clearly Forster(a ghey guy hissownself) recognized that he really wasn't part of society and circle of life.

Another dude a poet named Cavafy(IIRC) had a bunch of poetry about being teh ghey that also recognized the ephemeral situation of those living the gay life. In the end (pun alert!), all they had was the youthful joy of cornholing as Life passed them by.

403 I'm supposed to be painting the dining room, but I spent the week busting my ass on all the prep. I had to move the ceiling electrical box for the chandelier, because for some reason it was 18" off center, and I had to re-tape and spackle a few corners that were cracking, and repair the hole in the ceiling left from moving the ceiling box. The tall ceiling made it suck even more. Then I get to make new window sills, and retrim all the windows, and put down a new floor, and....you know, fuck it. I'm not doing shit today.

We have quite a number of retired and active duty military in my town and a number of KIA buried here. We have a nice little small town parade featuring all branches of the military that ends up at the town square which is fittingly named Veterans Memorial Square which has a number of plaques and statues honoring veterans of a number of wars.

There will be 100 American flags flying in the square, each formerly covered a casket of a deceased local veteran. We even have a town band that will play patriotic songs during the event.

We hear a lot about the the decline in our society every single day but America still exists in lots of small towns.

Remember, in the UK - titles mean something. No wonder they'd get into a pissing contest over proper titles.

Same thing is going on here now, over all the people that insist on "Sir", or "Doctor", or "General". It's all the same. It's a pissing contest about titles.

Boomers, do me favor, before you start yapping about respect. If we're all free men, and equal, no titles are required. A simple "Mr" or "Ms", because we're not on a first name basis yet, will suffice.

We repay them by restoring this country to the free Republic for which they fought. We repay them by struggling to ensure they did not die in vain. We repay them by recounting their legacy and the legacy of our country to our posterity, by teaching our children and grandchildren, by talking about what makes America great when we stand up and when we sit down and when we lie down, when we eat and when we go about our business. We talk about the MORALS required to keep America great. We ensure understanding of the principles inherent in LIFE, LIBERTY, and the PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS. We talk about our CREATOR. We talk about the JOY that comes from living a life free, yet bound by our own code, so that we don't infringe other's rights and so we don't have to be governed by others. We don't talk politics as much as we talk about the foundational principles that have made this country great. 476 One of the blackbelts I helped teach, is himself a school teacher. He intervened in an argument between two students by placing himself between them. One of the students started to pull a knife. Our blackbelt took him to the ground with an arm bar and held him there until he released the knife, and calmed down.

The mother of the student he disarmed testified for the teacher in front of the school board, and thanked him for his actions in the incident. The school board has placed him on suspension for "touching a student", and has threatened to revoke his teaching certificate. Court case pending on the board's action.

477 Republican Congressman Says He Would Vote for an Assault Weapons Ban.

And he might get me to agree - if his armed security is under the same restrictions as all Federal, State, and Local police. As well as any other entity acting on US Soil.

Lets all go back to shotguns, revolvers, and bolt-actions. But that includes the Secret Service. The BATF. And so on and so forth.
