Increased Testosterone Gives Democrat Voters Conservative GAINZZZ

You don't say.

(A semi-disguised GAINZZZ thread.)

This is a study from last year but The National Pulse is giving it some exposure now.

testosteroneinducesaredshift.png

The study -- Testosterone Administration Induces A Red Shift in Democrats -- was published on November 14th, 2021 by Professor Paul Zak, the Director of the Center for Neuroeconomics Studies at Claremont Graduate University.

"His research has made a substantial impact in explaining the variation in human social behaviors and has been cited by other scholars over 18,000 times placing in the top 0.3% of all scholars," explains his professional biography.

Zak's latest findings reveal a link between testosterone levels and political preference through analyzing 136 voting-age males throughout the 2012 election season.

"Our results demonstrate that testosterone induces a "red shift" among weakly-affiliated Democrats," summarized the paper.

Or "NeverTrumpers," I think they could say.

Researchers administered synthetic testosterone or placebo to participants who previously disclosed their political affiliations, allowing researchers to track how the hormone affected participants' politics.

"When weakly affiliated Democrats received additional testosterone, the strength of their party fell by 12 percent and they reported 45 percent warmer feelings towards Republican candidates for president," explained the study.

"Before the testosterone treatment, we found that weakly affiliated Democrats had 19 percent higher basal testosterone than those who identified strongly with the party," the study continues, reiterating the correlation between individuals with lower testoreone having left-wing political beliefs.

A recent study suggests, again, that going on a one-week "digital detox" can have "significant" benefits for well-being.

Asking people to stop using social media for just one week could lead to significant improvements in their well-being, depression and anxiety, and could in the future be recommended as a way to help people manage their mental health, say the authors of a new study.

The study, carried out by a team of researchers at the University of Bath (UK), studied the mental health effects of a week-long social media break. For some participants in the study, this meant freeing up around nine hours of their week that they would otherwise have been spent scrolling Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and TikTok.

The results--published today in the US journal Cyberpsychology, Behavior and Social Networking--suggest that just one week off social media improved individuals' overall level of well-being, as well as reducing symptoms of depression and anxiety.

For the study, the researchers randomly allocated 154 individuals aged 18 to 72, who used social media every day, into either an intervention group where they were asked to stop using all social media for one week, or a control group, where they could continue scrolling as normal. At the beginning of the study, baseline scores for anxiety, depression and well-being were taken.

Participants reported spending an average of 8 hours per week on social media at the start of the study. One week later, the participants who were asked to take the one-week break had significant improvements in well-being, depression, and anxiety over those who continued to use social media, suggesting a short-term benefit.

...

"Many of our participants reported positive effects from being off social media with improved mood and less anxiety overall. This suggests that even just a small break can have an impact.

Cal Newport, a computer science professor and author of the book Deep Work I've recommended, has suggested that people take a "digital detox" away from the internet for years. As well as a "digital declutter."

The more detailed process I propose is called the digital declutter. It asks that you begin by taking a 30-day break from optional digital technologies in your personal life. These include any apps, services, or web sites that aren't necessary for your work or play a vital role in your daily routine. For most people, these optional technologies include social media, online news and entertainment sites, games and streaming videos.

For technologies that play both a vital and a distracting role, specify rules to separate the former role from the latter. For example, if your job requires you to occasionally post on your company's social media account, this shouldn't be an excuse for unrestricted social media browsing on your phone. Instead, put aside some set times on your calendar to complete your professional social media work from your office computer, and then otherwise avoid these services during the declutter period.

There are two motivations for taking a 30-day break. The first is to detox from the compulsive urge to tap a screen at the slightest hint of boredom. It's difficult to think clearly about your digital life while you still feel an addictive pull to its algorithmically optimized charms.

The alluring noise emanating from our screens provides an easy distraction from the bigger questions about what really matters.

The second purpose to this long duration, however, is arguably more important: to get back in touch with what you actually value. The alluring noise emanating from our screens provides an easy distraction from the bigger questions about what really matters; what we want to do with limited time here on earth. This month-long reprieve provides the space needed to revisit these questions, and through both self-reflection and experimentation, form some tentative answers.

It goes without saying that there should be a special exception for Ace of Spades only.

So: Tell me 'bout yo' GAINZZZ!

What kind of GAINZZZ do you have? Anyone starting a new exercise or dietary regime?

5 Tweaked my back last weekend at the gym, so I've been limping all week. I'm hoping to be back to full operation by next week. In the meanwhile, I'm trying to get into a routine of walking three miles either outside or on the treadmill every day,

Started classes this week. Well, one class: AC repair. Was going to take the AC Controls repair as well, but it doesn't fit well with my work schedule, so I dropped it. Also working on programming self-study for python, in hopes of lining up a better job.

I've had it for a time and what seems to work best for me is: before I get out of bed, sit on the edge of the mattress and arch my affected foot up and down a bit. Then 'write' the beginning of the alphabet with my big toe. Seems to loosen up every thing before the day.

12 I have been keto, but to advance to the next level I've cut PUFAs (polyunsaturated fatty acids) from my diet. PUFA causes inflammation and largely negates many of the benefits of keto.

Most of the PUFA we eat comes from seed oils, but chicken/pork also has a ton of PUFA. Seed oils are in nearly every commercial food product.

So now my diet is beef/lamb/eggs(pastured), with some cheese and guac, grass-fed plain yogurt, occasional macadamia nuts, and also seed oil free mayo/tomato sauce/bbq sauce/salsa, etc.

35 Men engage in logic because they want to take their opposition out, but in a socially acceptable way. They want to be seen as the one with the good ideas or valid opinions.

Now force or social ridicule can win this fight, depending on the crowd, but logic fights are the basis of something positive, not simply blind force.

51 If society does not heed enough to the leveling force of reason, it will run into the pitfalls of blindly applied force and social pressure.

Hence societies that have enough to lose, tend to--at least publically--prefer the "market force" of logic. That's why the Democrats prefer to be known as the "Party of Science" not the "Party that has coopted America's Police Power".

Science--until its capture--is supposed to be another arena of neutrality where the best ideas succeed.

71 A good logical viewpoint, taking a rational course of action using Reason and the best facts on the ground can go a long way to having to be "compassionate" in the first place.

Well, I propose (off the cuff) that an etymological analysis of the word "compassion" basically shows that you must use some sort of mediation.

Passions are often inward-directed, thus if we have "passion with" we must have a coordinating force.

Force and status are a basis of conflict not agreement. Thus we must abstract to the common ground between at least two people.

145 Fun idea for an SF story:

The protagonist is a teen living in 50s middle America having a normal childhood.

When hiking in the woods behind his school he sees one of his teachers furtively doing something behind a building...he sneaks closer and finds the teacher using some crazy advanced alien looking tech.

Later he and his friends start talking and several mention they've seen similiar things from the teacher...who then is mentioned to have died in an accident. Making them all MORE suspicious.

They keep investigating until finally one of the adults lets them onto the secret their teacher was just fired for breaking the rules because ALL kids are raised in a fake 50s middle America society. Society found centuries ago that being raised with future tech literally drives kids crazy and that after they reach adulthood and "move to the big city" the then adults are actually being integrated into this future world where their teacher is in legal trouble but not dead.

I would inevitably ask, "have you ever met him." The answer was no 90% of the time. That sad part was when she finally got around to meeting the person. By then relationship was so damaged they always failed and fast. There is something to boy meets girl, dad threatens boy with death, prom night, and so on. Social media ruins all that, we are wired to grow close over time. Then there is all the other insanity you point out. Social media is rotten.

150 That shit, among many other intentional lies, is what did it and because it was all new, it was all totally undisproveable, and they had us by the hairies.

I like to point out to LIVs that Fauci claimed masks do nothing shortly before he claimed they were a matter of life and death and should be forced on everyone.

The LIVs, to a one, respond, "but we learned so much more and had to change with what we learn"...which I remember was the FNM spin at the time.

Of course then I point out that AFTER Fauci made this about face he sent a private email to a friend where she asked him if masks really do anything and his answer? No.

163 There have been studies that micro doses of testosterone are beneficial for women too. I'm surprised that more doctors don't prescribe it for men as they get older.

That was the funniest thing.

When Fauci came out and said that he "lied" originally about masks, I said at the time that *THAT* was the lie.

What fun is "admitting" you're a liar if you're not lying at that very moment...?

They are sick and once you understand the sickness a lot falls into place.

165 @40 Teresa in Fort Worth, Texas-took a bullet in the left side of my chest years ago, went through my lung, hit a rib and followed rib almost back to entry wound. Nurse couldn't fish it out so it was left in my chest. Whole left side of my body was purple with a bruise. Pretty freaky looking for a while.

The X-ray tech, Monday, wanted to make sure that the bullet was not near my spine or vital organs for his own piece of mind to do the MRI. Bullet is so encased in scar tissue you can hardly make out the bullet. MRI went fine.

IIRC Hormone replacement is a controversial treatment right now.

It increased energy and health overall but dramatically increased cancer risks.

The TRT and cancer links are tenuous at best. A lot of the current directives came from a Swedish study on prostate cancer/TRT which was extremely flawed, yet still heavily relied upon.

176 I'm trying to get my mile and a half run time back below 11 minutes, but I have a problem: I hate running. 178 |Throughout the 60s and 70s there were a number of dystopian scifi stories that warned about pollution that would subtlety destroy mankind.

None of the ones I read were subtle.

It seems far too many people have read science fiction (or heard stories) and said, "Yes! Let's do that!"

Much of science fiction is meant to be a WARNING of the consequences of meddling with forces we don't fully understand.
Posted by: "Perfessor" Squirrel at May 20, 2022 07:08 PM (K5n5d)

Most of the trendy "Warning" SF stories were crap, as were the ones where plucky low tech aliens beat the humans which were thinly disguised Vietnam stories.

The good ones that warned of pollution and overconfidence were subtler, and written a generation earlier before they were trendy.

179 What this means is people who are really conservative or independent, but consider themselves Democrat because of groupthink or media domination by liberals.
A little boost of testosterone and they are less likely to fall in line and just declare the 'default' option.

I bet if you split it by state, you would see less of this in Republican states.

The four hard lefty "Guys" of Buzzfeed tested out at:
Eugene 363,
Keith 259,
Zach 252,
Ned 212.
Average at age 25-34....668
Average at age 55-64....562
Average even at age 85-100....376
ALL of these men had T counts under a wornout, used up, sexless 100yo. "man"
