The Morning Report - 5/12/22

ididthatbabyscream.jpg

Good morning, kids. Thursday and while, as usual, we have the veritable linkapalooza on issues that each in their own right are at or near flaming-skull level, I'm going to focus in on one story that on any other day in this ongoing nightmare would get lost in the sauce but for me is setting off a fire alarm.

The New York Times reported Tuesday: “A Baby Formula Shortage Leaves Desperate Parents Searching for Food.” A headline once impossible in America.

On Wednesday, incoming press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was asked who at the White House was “running point” on the baby shortage. She had no idea.

Instead, she assured reporters that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) was rushing to make sure formula is “safe.” She blamed “Abbott’s voluntary recall of infant formula products,” which took place after four infants were hospitalized, and two died, though there is no proven link yet with the formula itself, according to the FDA.(The White House cannot get its message straight: on Monday, press secretary Jen Psaki said the FDA had “issued” the recall.)

Meanwhile, desperate mothers are considering their options: driving for hours to find formula somewhere; trying to restart breast-feeding; or even trying to create their own homemade substitutes, which the government has advised them not to do.

They face the prospect of being unable to feed hungry, panicked, and crying infants, who are incapable of understanding why their mothers, who have nurtured them every moment of their lives thus far, are somehow, suddenly, declining to feed them.

Step back and pause for a moment and put everything aside -- all the depredations, abuses and outrages visited upon us for the past several years and ramped up by orders of magnitude in just the past 16 months -- and let this sink in. The United States of America. Historically the most prosperous, abundant, wealthiest and freest society that ever was or ever will be. The nation, and especially its people, who have helped feed the starving and cure the sick out of its own pocket and generosity of its own heart, that gave (and continues to give) its blood and treasure to liberate the world from tyranny twice in a generation as well as a Cold War.

That same United States of America today finds itself on the brink of running out of baby formula.

Ho. Lee. Fook.

The $30.5 trillion dollar question is, how in God's name did we let this happen? That, of course, is a rhetorical question, but perhaps the answer lies in the response by what can only be described as a glittering jewel of pig-ignorance and cold-blooded reptilian hatred that craves only one thing: power. In other words, a typical leftist:

Former Ohio State Senator Nina Turner (D) complained on Wednesday that Republicans were doing more to try to outlaw abortion than they were to address the shortage of baby formula.

“There’s a national shortage of baby formula. That means babies are going hungry. Instead of taking care of our nation’s children, conservatives are worried about banning abortions. Sickening,” she tweeted."

You should read the responses. Interesting solution she and her Twitter minions seem to be offering. Instead of stopping her party from continuing to grind the economy into dust, we need to kill babies in the womb to prevent more mouths to feed. That's more than just an interesting solution; it has all the hallmarks of being a "final solution." Mercifully for the people of Ohio, this insect who, besides being Bernie Sanders' co-campaign chair, has a hate on for Jews, white people and the free market, was soundly defeated in her bid for a House seat, albeit by someone who's merely a relatively sane Trotskyite by comparison.

These people are manifestly irresponsible, so ideologically driven as to border on mental derangement, and because they have a near complete stranglehold on the levers of power and the instruments of control that maintain that power, pose an absolute, undeniable, existential threat to every man, woman and child -- in and out of the womb -- in this country.

Co-blogger and friend CBD has made the case that the straw that will break the camel's back, as it were, from both an electoral and perhaps a long-term societal standpoint is our children. When parents saw firsthand via remote learning the mind-, body- and soul-rape of our kids from CRT Jive Kampf and sexual grooming, that was a watershed moment. In fact, it had been going on for years if not decades but thanks to being locked down with the panic over General Tso's Sickness it was on full display for anyone who had eyes to see and gave a shit. As we saw with the parents in Loudon County, they had both as well as a giant collective set of lungs, vocal cords, and most importantly the cojones to stand up and use them.

To CBD's point, we can and have put up with a lot of shit over the years, but when you come for our kids - with the clear intention now, and excuse my language, of trying to come IN our kids, you are going to get a reaction. Yet, instead of backing off and engaging in a period of introspection or even compromise, the left doubles, triple and quadruples down. They have to; they're true believers in every sense of the word and will brook no quarter with those whom they view as evil and standing in the way of the paradise on earth they think they can create.

In October of 2021, Merrick Garland issued a memorandum that expressed concern about a “disturbing spike in harassment, intimidation, and threats of violence against school administrators, board members, teachers, and staff who participate in the vital work of running our nation’s public schools.”

“Threats against public servants are not only illegal, they run counter to our nation’s core values,” Garland wrote at the time. “Those who dedicate their time and energy to ensuring that our children receive a proper education in a safe environment deserve to be able to do their work without fear for their safety.”

To combat this alleged problem, Garland announced a 30-day plan that would have the FBI working with U.S attorneys across the country to discuss “strategies for addressing threats against school administrators, board members, teachers, and staff, and will open dedicated lines of communication for threat reporting, assessment, and response.”

The memorandum arrived less than a week after leaders of the National School Boards Association wrote [so-called quote-unquote "president"] Joe Biden a letter claiming that “many public school officials are also facing physical threats because of propaganda purporting the false inclusion of critical race theory within classroom instruction and curricula . . ."

. . . The whistleblowers reportedly claimed that the FBI opened investigations with the threat tag all over the country. Of the examples cited, one FBI investigation centered on a mom flagged by the National Threat Operations Center snitch-line, who was described as a “right-wing” member of the group “Moms for Liberty.” The investigation sparked after she allegedly told a local school board “we are coming for you.” The FBI later determined that the mother was no threat and that her rhetoric referred to a peaceful transfer of power through school board elections.

Another investigation centered on a dad who “fit the profile of an insurrectionist” because he “rails against the government” and owned lots of guns.

While the letter noted how the FBI ultimtately dismissed these investigations, the two congressman were still troubled by the fact precious law enforcement resources were used to probe parents that were merely exercising their First Amendment right.

And now the Department of Homeland Security is attempting to set up this so-called "Disinformation Governance Board." A Ministry of Propaganda by any other name would still reek to high Heaven as bad. But I digress. On the latest episode of our award-winning podcast, both CBD and Joe Mannix discussed the case of Nicolae Ceaucescu. He, too, like the Democrat-Left, had a complete stranglehold on the levers of power and the instruments of control that maintain that power. And then a random event, the attempted arrest and removal of a dissident Hungarian pastor, touched off mass national riots and a bloody revolution that saw Ceaucescu and his wife tried and executed.

And here we are in 2022 with the economy in ruins, our military decimated even as the Junta is itching to wag the dog against Putin, stagflation imminent, gasoline and diesel through the roof, criminals running wild in the streets with tacit and outright approval of corrupt DAs, persecution and censorship of political opposition and perhaps a summer of organized civil unrest and violence funded and approved of at the highest levels.

Forgetting elections for a moment, will any or all of that be enough to engender a "great reset" to coin a phrase? Who knows. But when mothers cannot feed their babies, on top of the fact that there is a drive to turn those that survive to adolescence into catamites and sex slaves, then all bets are off.

16 That same United States of America today finds itself on the brink of running out of baby formula.

I would argue that it's not the same USA. The USA that used to Do Great Things is gone, swallowed by the monster around us. Anyone who trusts government (really at any level, but especially at the Federal level) is living under a rock, a complete idiot, or a True Believer. Back when we Did Great Things, the Government had earned some trust (it has more than spent that in the intervening years).

At the same time, Conservatives and Orthodox Christians (the Venn diagram was not a circle back then, now I do not believe it is possible to be a Bible-believing Christian and also be Liberal) all-too-often sat out the culture war around them or, worse, conformed to the World's definitions of "mercy" and "good" and "success."

That USA no longer exists.

18 I'd like to see an analysis of how we got to a state of affairs where one company has a monopoly on infant formula, to the point where a simple safety recall can collapse the entire market.

I can guarantee you absurd regulations and omnipresent graft are at the core of it all, without even seeing a single data point.

24 Meanwhile, mothers who can only use formula (and often can only use one specific type of one specific brand of formula) are being told "oh, don't make formula at home, it's not nutritious!"

Which it isn't. Homemade formulas based on powdered milk and other things is not nutritionally complete for infants and a prolonged diet of it is bad. However, it is not *as* bad as the child literally starving to death, which is, in some cases, the only other option.

43 The only sort-of good news in all of this is that Democrats are going to get positively shellacked come November, and they're in a Catch-22 of their own making.

I fully believe they were setting up Joe Brandon to be a fall-guy - take the big steps to implement the things they knew were unpopular and would lead to exactly this sort of economy, and then be removed from Office (either via his Cabinet or an Impeachment over "sudden revelations" in the Hunter case). They didn't count on VP Kneepads being even more loathsome to voters, though (which tells me they aren't exactly towering intellects). So now they can either get completely drubbed in November and then also fight to keep in place these policies that are literally killing people, or they can impeach BOTH POTUS and the VP in the very slim hope that President Nancy Pelosi can save them - assuming Republicans let it get that far that fast. The problem with removing Brandon and Kameltoe is that if the timing is wrong, it won't be President Pelosi, it'll be President Kevin McCarthy.

79 Also, between the gas prices which are still going up and the baby food shortage and other shortages that are going to start occurring (pray for rain in Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, and New Mexico, y'all - a lot of beef comes from there, among other foodstuffs), we're getting really, really close to "When the Music Stops."

It won't take much more for gas prices to be so high you can't go anywhere and can't even get things delivered (diesel is hovering around 5.50/gal at truck stops, and the average Semi Truck holds about 300 gallons or so when full - that's A LOT of money).

Once that happens, with a trickle of supplies (I don't *think* it would all completely shut down), an average Urban Center will be out of food in a week or three. And then who knows what will happen?

112 I have no problem finding infant formula on Amazon with a same or next day delivery.

1) To some degree: yes, but the prices have jumped quite a bit. Given how much formula a child goes through, that hurts the pocket book almost as much as gas prices. Maybe more in some cases.

2) It seems (I'm adjacent to many Mom groups) that the stuff that's hardest to find are specifically the ones formulated for specific digestive issues - which makes it worse, because if you need one of those kinds, you really can't use anything else.

3) I don't know how many times - even with reasonably good budgeting and planning, I had to make a midnight trip out to the store to buy formula when my kids were that little. And if you go to Walmart or (in my neck of the woods) Brookshires, it's a crap shoot if you'll find any at all, and even longer odds that you'll find any of that special formula from point 2.

The fact that it's available on Amazon is not really helpful in a lot of circumstances.

We don't (last I looked) make most of the formula used in the US domestically, we import it (mostly from China, which is dumb, but that's a different discussion). So with the *addition* of the biggest formula facility in the US going up in flames, that already-stressed supply line broke.

Posted by: Lady in Black at May 12, 2022 08:11 AM (sVtYq)

Yeah, the economy runs on diesel and electricity. Transportation runs almost entirely on diesel. A shortage of diesel means less transportation, and much higher costs per mile. There's no way around that. Diesel pumps through every vein in this country.

And it's particularly appalling that we're under diesel supply pressure, because it's fairly easy to make. You can even squeeze it out of coal if you need to (and if you have surplus electricity as an input). But hey, it's "carbon" so it's got to go.

I really, really hate our shitty press. Whenever the cost of fuel or inflation comes up, not one journalist asks Ole' Porridge Brain or any of his surrogates whether he is reconsidering his campaign promise to kill the oil industry.

The Saboteurs and Destroyers in Congress (aka Leftist Democrats) are pushing the NOPEC law that would criminalize OPEC and permit lawsuits against OPEC for alleged "market manipulation".

OPEC had a counter - it was the former US, Canada, Mexico and other non-OPEC oil producing/exporting nations. But the same monsters pushing NOPEC destroyed the only market counter to OPEC resulting in a true monopoly.

Twitter is in black-letter antitrust violation, just like Facebook and Google are (and the combine of MIcrosoft+Google+Amazon, acting as a cartel in cloud services). When you're on Team State, antitrust ceases to be an issue with which you must be worried. The FTC will never come calling, unless it's for your regular dinner date.

If you're not on Team State, though, look the hell out. Twitter has a "microblogging" monopoly. They're in violation of antitrust. Add into it Musk's Starlink and suddenly it's vertical integration, too.

PapaPear is apparently blindly unaware that labor and production costs have skyrocketed. Also I was ripping him (slightly) for being missing for a bit. Turns out he had a heart emergency and was hospitalized and needed surgery. The protest mobs, like the ones who showed up to SCOTUS and are protesting at judges' homes, are a bought and paid for "army", on call whenever their masters demand them, but they're not the only thing. Antifa and BLM still operate and their funding is most likely separate from the protest mobs.

They're also off the chain, knowing after two years of limitless action, that they can do whatever they want. I expect some concentrated doses of "direct action" in blue enclaves. I hope they target Manhattan. If they're smart, they'll target Manhattan.

If it happens in Manhattan, Manhattan media makes it national news.

Yes, the knock-on effects are huge. For a narrow example, look at nuclear reprocessing. Carter banned it because he's an idiot. Reagan rolled back most or all of those stupid rules and bans, but we still have no nuclear materials reprocessing in this country. Who on earth is going to invest the vast sums of money it takes to build an operation like that when some future asshole's mere whim can immediately drive the value of the investment to zero?

Nobody will. Nobody did. You can stop things on a dime through main force, but you cannot restart them on demand and you cannot make people invest their money into industries where they fear being crippled by some asshole's mere whim.

228 Saint of the Day
Bl. Imelda Lambertini (1322--1333) was born to a noble family in Bologna, Italy. As a child she developed a great love for the Holy Eucharist. At nine years old, she requested to become a Dominican postulant. She was allowed to enter, however, in that era, children were not permitted to receive Holy Communion. Imelda repeatedly pleaded to receive Communion, but each time she was denied. When the feast of the Ascension approached, Imelda begged to make her First Holy Communion on this feast. Again, she was denied. On the Vigil of the Feast of the Ascension she was in the chapel praying, as the other Sisters received Holy Communion. Afterwards a glowing host was seen suspended in the air above the child. The priest understood this as a sign, and he ministered the Holy Eucharist to her. Imelda remained kneeling in prayer as the nuns left the chapel. When they returned for her, they found her just as they had left her, but her body was lifeless. It was felt that Imelda died of pure ecstatic joy after receiving Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. Bl. Imelda Lambertini is the patron saint of First Communicants.

Yes, they enabled all of this by writing generous charters to the agencies and granting them pseudo independence, but they still have to pass the funding and could revoke those agencies if they wanted to. 256 We have fundamental security interests in Ukraine. But our first priority should be the citizens of our country. We've been suffering for a year now. We have issues with our neighbors getting basic foodstuffs. People can't afford gas. People are being financially challenged. Our border is wide open and these people are pouring into our communities. Crime is out of control, and the list goes on.

Yet, Ukraine is the issue that Republicans finally get passionate about and spend $40 billion on top of all the other garbage? F them, and f anyone trying to say those looting this out are in American. They can eat a bag of dicks. Of course they attack with ad hominems and pejoratives. Because they lose the argument of facts and substance.

This isn't a Republican Party that is going to save us from anything. Quite the contrary. We need to wipe out from Congress every person voting for that bill.

Passing a little card is fake confrontation and very stupid. Engage with the person directly and refuse and if he insists then demand that he justify why he needs the information. It isn't that hard, but it does require a bit more engagement than passing a stupid little card along.

Hawaii is doing the same thing, and much of their generation is now coming from diesel generators.

The perverse increase in "renewables" is preventing the construction of permanent efficient thermal generation such as nuclear and nat-gas, resulting in perpetual "emergency" use of the most expensive form of dispatchable energy generation - diesel.

The reason this argument has no resonance is because Putin himself is every bit as much a Nazi as Schickelgruber himself was; he just doesn't use the Magic Word or Magic Symbols. (he has his own Magic Words and Magic Symbols) He invaded a weaker neighbor based on a thin pretext; he believes in Lebensraum for Russian Speakers; he believes it is his Nations Destiny to rule its neighbors; he has authorized Ethnic Cleansing of the areas his troops have overrun, deporting over a million people to who knows where. Putin himself is the biggest, baddest Nazi on the world stage today.

Now this doesn't make the Ukrainians better; but even if your argument were true (I think it's grossly exaggerated), then it's still just a case of one group of nazi's fighting a bigger group of nazi's. Hardly the kind of thing to get anyone enthused over.

Biden scores a huge climate policy victory by canceling massive Alaska oil and gas lease sale. Progressive environmental groups and climate scientists cheered the decision. Americans need to accept high gas prices or get an electric car.

The Interior Department's decision to not move forward with the lease sale comes as gas prices soar.

Biden admin has finally found its stride in not letting politics, polls or suffering families get in the way of implementing aggressive environmental regulations.

Climate advisor Gina McCarthy took credit for the lease cancellation apparently before Interior announced it.

Today's Alaska oil lease sale cancelation comes on the heels of federal court hearing Tuesday: Did Biden legally suspend oil lease sales?

Biden admin argued that climate change be considered as reason to suspend oil & gas drilling leases going forward.

You get both. You have some control over the mix, but you always get both. Which is a "byproduct" of the other depends entirely on your perspective. When the wholesale switch to kerosene from whale oil was underway (the oil industry is what saved the whales, not the environmentalists), it was gasoline that was the byproduct. There was nothing to do with the stuff and it had no use. The early refineries would dump it into the river periodically light it on fire to get rid of the stuff.

It still is, and it is top-down in every dimension as pushed by every institution they control (which is all of them). There wasn't a great groundswell of people demanding lunacy, the lunacy has been imposed. It will gain many enthusiastic participants, though.

The biggest argument is it's not our fight despite the fact we helped engineer it.

There have been tribal fights in Europe since there has been Europe. We don't even understand most of the ancient hostilities and don't really have a dog in the fight.

NATO is a relic that should have died with the Soviet Union. We have much more pressing issues right here at home and with our most dangerous foe China. Let Europe deal with Europe and all their fights. We have no real national security issues with Ukraine vs Russia, just ones war junkies like Graham gin up.

Because Porky and Buckwheat were usually paired up as the "little tag-alongs" of their era, Buckwheat said "O-Tay" back to Porky more than anyone else, and it became codified as "his" due to Eddie Murphy.

Billie "Buckwheat" Thomas actually overcame his (very real) speech impediment, and in the later MGM shorts he speaks almost perfectly. (he was always a little mumble-mouthed even as an adult.)

Putin is an honest-to-God tyrant, with no real political opposition and no criticism from the Russian press, whose bravest members all died from spontaneous lead poisoning and sudden falls from tall buildings. He doesn't care about the average Russian's "quality of life", and he sells oil and arms abroad instead of whatever we used to make until we gave it all to China. He'll give up power on the day he dies, and not one day earlier. But he's still not worth fighting where Ukraine is involved. Moldova, which is the size of 3 Appalachian Ohio counties, is definitely not worth fighting him over.

386 In August 2021, several stories ran about Abbott, a maker of popular covid tests, when it had its factory in Westbrook, MA destroy its inventory. Weeks later, the country was facing a surge in covid cases.

Now, Abbott recalled certain lots of baby formula with expiration dates of April 1, 2022 or later, manufactured at its Michigan plant and distributed throughout the U.S. and overseas. The FDA ordered the plant closed but will now allow Abbott to release some specialty formulas "on a case-by-case basis."

Note, reportedly, Abbott Nutrition is the exclusive supplier for more than half of the WIC agencies nationwide.

Some strange happenings, indeed. And let us not forget the food factory "mishaps."

Flanked by Neil Cavuto and Mark Levin, Biden said "To all the Putin ass-kissers out there criticizing this, PLEASE bring your hungry infant to California so it can be made comfortable and then post-birth aborted. Do your part to aid in the Ukrainian war effort. Odds are that kid's going to die fighting in a pointless war in the future anyway."

No. Nobody can and nobody even tries because it's not that important to US interests. All we get is Putin is evil and Ukraine is a plucky democracy we must defend, neither statement is entirely true.

Incorporating Ukraine and Georgia into NATO has been the policy of the neocons and globalists for decades. It is a uniparty mission. They didn't stop after NATO membership was dangled in front of Georgia and Putin did as he said he would and invaded and they aren't stopping now when they same damn thing happened in Ukraine.

And now Finland is being mentioned as the next NATO member and that really light Putin's candle. We are bumbling our way toward WWIII over nothing.

Those who were deprived of nutrition did poorly and ended up with a lifetime of being physically inferior to those who had good nutrition.

Stepan Bandera; I thought the photo would be worse. It's easy for us in the west to condemn someone like that, but I can also understand why a Viktor Yushchenko awarded him the title of Hero of Ukraine. A figure like John Brown, perhaps; John Brown fought against slavery, but John Brown killed a lot of innocent people for his visions. Bandera appears to have switched sides a lot, fighting for whoever he thought had the best prospects of making the Ukraine independent at the time.

448 368 The more I think about the latest Ukraine funding, the angrier I get.

Can someone please explain why the f $!@ Ukraine is so important? I get that aid money is Lauderdale through there, but that's not unique. I get that more than a few Senator's sons and other family are getting paid handsomely for little to know work by Ukrainian oligarchs, but that's also not unique. But why was Ukraine the center or TWO impeachments, why was the US embassy spying on US conservative commentators, why did we run the color revolution there in 2014, why is Soros so invested there??
======
Since you asked.... Ukraine is important to eh Biden junta for three reasons.
1. Ukraine is the distraction. Pay no heed to the wrecking of the US economy, obsolete Covid restrictions, etc. Look at Ukraine, people!!
2. Putin will cheerfully release all the dirt on the Bidens and the bioweapons labs. The more DC gets stuck in gridlock and political hysteria over scandals and failed policies, the freer hand he has in Europe and Central Asia.
3. Soros has it in for Putin because he won't surrender power to the Globalist Technofascist State and its "progressive" agenda.

477 Just put the student debt back on the universities. This is an example of how Republican "principles" get in the way of reality. This is a war, and all is fair in war.

By putting the debt back on the universities we kill three birds with one stone,

1. The debt issue is off the table so the Democrats cannot use it anymore.

2. The debt will be paid for by the university said student attended, and will not be directly paid for by the tax payers.

3. It will hurt the universities forcing them to tighten their belt.

Now if we just nail the universities with a price cap if they accept federal funds all will be well in the valley. I know conservatives don't like debt relief and price caps. But they will hurt the left and that is what you do in war, hurt your enemies and help yourself and allies.

489 The polling article on student loan forgiveness is HILARIOUS!!!

Who wants to forgive $10K in loans ?

Uh, who cares ? That isn't what they want. That effort is targeted to elite college majors that provide no benefits. Think Gender Studies at Harvard. Imagine $200K in student loads for a completely useless degree.

Nobody on earth should have any problem paying off $10K in student loans. That's what I did, back when the payment was 5% of my net income.

Nothing like asking a question, designed to get a positive response that doesn't come close to examining the actual issue.
