Wonderful and most amusing. The British TV series based on it and of the same name was very well done; both highly recommended (will move you to tears & laughter).

84 I enjoy the way Landseer captures the form and musculature of the animals in his paintings and brings in a slightly romanticized aspect with the poses. I don't know how but he manages to get a sheen on the coats that emphasizes the form and hair, reflecting the light. It is pleasant to view and carries an emotional aspect that is pleasing.

BTW, Landseer has a sense of humor and whimsy. Check out some of his other paintings such as the scene from A Midsummer Night's Dream or The Monkey That Had Seen The World.

98 It's amazing to think about. Since the internal combustion engine pretty much supplanted the horse for our transportation, the existence of the cow makes more difference in our lives -- positive difference -- than any other animal. Meat, milk, butter, and cheese, bone meal, hides, fertilizer, keeping grass "mowed" . . . if the horse disappeared tomorrow, not much difference; if the cow vanished, wow!

Negative effects, yes, there are bacteria and viruses and insects. But for adding value to the human condition, it's hard to surpass cattle.

Perusing Petfinder last night, I ran across a black cat for adoption in my area. The heading says "Male," but the text description insists the cat is a girl. She's beautiful, though big for a girl cat. And for some reason, in the pics her head looks a little small for her body. It might just be that her fur is so long and thick that her body looks larger in proportion -- but my late Wolf cat had a massive head to go with his frame.

I might send a note to this rescue place and drive up to see her, though.

Overall, nearly 800 people have been charged in the breach on the district or federal level. Approximately 248 have pleaded guilty to federal charges. Only a handful of trials have been completed. All defendants who have gone before juries have been convicted on all charges; those who went before judges received split or full acquittals.

We have met the enemy and they are us. As fun as it is to blame government officials, be sure that your neighbor next door will slit your throat without hesitation.

455 448 I've got a Zoom staff meeting to attend in about 30 minutes: an hour of boredom and being on one's best behavior. What a day for it. Oh, well, my boss says he will be out of the country all during June. No doubt I will be able to tiptoe home at 4 all that month.

My own boss wants to pitch the idea of us working from home one day a week during the summer weeks (June through end of July). The catch is we have to have a project to work on and deliverables to be met...

I loved the "Flying Through Space" screen saver that you could modify to show more stars per second, so it looked even more like the viewscreen of the Enterprise. I don't know if Win 10 offers that as a choice now.

458 Do we have any foriegn heroes buried in America?

Pretty sure that British and other Commonwealth pilots killed during WWII in training accidents are buried nearby the airfields where they trained.

I'm not in PA, so I'm with you. I'd probably vote Barnette, but I'm sure people there know more than me.

I don't think I could vote for Oz - at least not in the primary.

Just listened to a podcast that included a tidbit about British Field Marshal Sir John Dill, who has one of only two equestrian statues at Arlington on his memorial.

I'm going to reference the rising cost of gas, and suggest that each of us take one day a week to work at home too. As the one who proposes it, of course, I will plump for either Monday or Friday. . . .

471 The city did let BLM run a little rampant for a while, but downtown Charleston is really rich and decided that broken windows on King Street were not going to be tolerated. North Charleston has gotten worse, though, but that seems to be mostly a lack of policing thing instead of a concentrated activist thing.
----------------
I understand that Disney has a shit ton invested in Charleston as well. Those fucks are meaner than Singapor Police about chewing gum.

473 Patrisse Cullors (grifting co-found of BLM) was a "remote" professor for a local college (smaller rural Northern AZ town) and whipped up a BLMantifa protest downtown at our county courthouse. A couple hundred of us showed up with our AR-15s (including moi) -- including heavy county sheriff presence -- and the like ... and they vowed to return the next week with a thousand thugs from Phoenix & Tucson.

We were waiting for them, and six showed ...
Posted by: ShainS at May 13, 2022 10:49 AM (93Arc)
----------

Yeah, you know BLMAntifa moved on to an easier target. It was obvious from the get go if government had allowed cops and citizens to take care of business with those thugs, it would have been a short lived period of national violence.
