The Morning Report - 4/29/22

ministrytruth.jpg

Good morning, kids. The weekend is here and I want to continue to focus on this hideous DHS "Disinformation Governance Board." A totalitarian Ministry of Truth by any other name would still stink to high heaven. Can someone please remind me again what country this is, or more accurately what country this is supposed to be? Considering everything we have lived through going back into the Obama eight-year reign of error and perhaps as far back as 9/11 - the cultural and political (and the cultural is political) dissolution and degradation of our society - you become almost numb to the ice pick rammed in your eye after an almost constant pounding with brass knuckles and tire irons. Almost.

The newly formed panel will target supposed misinformation aimed at key points of vulnerability for Biden and Democrats such as southern border migrants, as well as monitor and prepare for Russian disinformation threats as this year’s midterm elections near, the DHS said.

“The spread of disinformation can affect border security, Americans’ safety during disasters, and public trust in our democratic institutions,” the department said in a statement.

DHS said that the board will “protect privacy, civil rights, and civil liberties” as part of its duties. . .

. . . “We know that there has been a range of disinformation out there about a range of topics — I mean, including COVID, for example, and also elections and eligibility,” Psaki said. “But I will check and see if there’s more specifics.”

The backlash over the creation of the board came as the Biden administration also unveiled an international “Declaration for the Future of the Internet” with 50 other countries on Thursday that endorsed efforts to also curb online “disinformation” and “harassment.”

The document outlines ideas for “reclaiming the promise of the Internet” and US officials described it as an effort to counter the practices of countries including China and Russia.

It notably doesn’t mention domestic US struggles over internet freedom, such as politically motivated censorship of news stories by private companies and alleged illegal government mass surveillance. . .

. . . The vague document doesn’t describe a specific remedy for disinformation, but does call for governments to “[f]oster greater exposure to diverse cultural and multilingual content, information, and news online.”

I seem to remember, in the wake of 9/11/01 something called FISA; super-secret courts that went after terrorists on our own soil who posed a threat to our precious democracy (*vomit*). Interesting how since then, we've had Nidal Hassan, Omar Mateen, Fahreed Skyhook and his concubine and at least a dozen or so other attacks as well as plots that were only foiled by sheer dumb luck. "Lone wolves," they declared while neglecting to mention the common denominator. Meanwhile, this same FISA court was a co-conspirator in the FBI/DOJ enacted and Hillary/Obama concocted plot to sabotage the 2016 Trump campaign via spying and phony evidence manufacturing.

And the FISA courts are still there having been renewed by Congress to stay vigilant and stop the threats to our precious democracy (*vomit*).

The Biden Justice Department is finally acknowledging the war on cops: FBI Director Christopher Wray denounced the 59% increase in cop murders in 2021.

An officer is murdered nearly once every five days, yet violence against law enforcement “doesn’t get enough attention,” Wray said Sunday on CBS’s “60 Minutes.”

That is an understatement. Wray’s bosses — Attorney General Merrick Garland and President Joe Biden — have instead focused almost exclusively on alleged white-supremacist criminality, which they claim is the biggest domestic threat facing the country today.

That charge is preposterous. It is violent street crime — drive-by shootings, sadistic robberies, carjackings — that has been destroying lives at an increasing rate since the George Floyd race riots. White-supremacist violence played no role in the record-breaking 29% national homicide increase in 2020 or in the ongoing crime surge since then.

As startling as that 2020 homicide increase was, cop murders rose at twice that rate in 2021. A significant portion of those fatalities were ambushes, which were up 91% by mid-2021. Through April 26 of this year, gun murders of cops are up another 13% over the same period in 2021. Shootings of officers, lethal and nonlethal, were up 43% by early April.

These cop killings emerge from a national rhetoric of cop hatred and racial animosity. The Floyd riots and their long aftermath featured the graffiti tag ACAB (All Cops Are Bastards) sprayed across public buildings from New York City to Seattle.

Emphasis mine in Heather Mac Donald's essay. "White supremacists," as well as insurrectionists. Let me state this as clearly as I can: There is no mass white supremacist movement in this country. Period, full stop. The Burning, Looting and Murdering that swept the nation in 2020 had one purpose; gin up hatred against President Trump and sow such civil unrest that he would be driven from office and the MAGA movement discredited. And that civil unrest culminated on January 6th, where the violence at the Capitol was planned and carried out by the FBI/DOJ, Capitol Police and cadres from the ranks of BLM and Antifa.

At the risk of going off on a tangent, the estimable Julie Kelly takes us inside to the well of the Senate itself.

McConnell, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), and D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser—the three leaders responsible for protecting the Capitol on January 6—still have not explained their failure to do so. Not only did McConnell’s top law enforcement officials purportedly overlook the potential for violence on January 6, he denied requests for more officers days before and delayed sending guardsmen to Capitol Hill that afternoon.

And it will be nearly impossible to find out why: Stegner, along with Irving and Sund, all resigned on January 7, 2021.

So, perhaps there is a darker explanation for McConnell’s  giddiness on January 6. What unfolded that day on McConnell’s watch ended Republican demands for an election audit; criminalized criticism of the 2020 election, which McConnell still describes as “fair” and legitimate; vilified Republican lawmakers; and prompted Trump’s second impeachment. McConnell also believed the protest would spell the end of the Trump movement, something the Beltway crony long attempted to quash.

Like the Biden regime, congressional Democrats, and the national news media, the aftermath of the Capitol protest achieved all sorts of political ends for Mitch McConnell.

And when it comes to January 6, there are no coincidences.

Emphasis mine. Now we understand why this Ministry of Truth suddenly pops up, especially close on the heels of Elon Musk's move to buy up Twitter. It's apparent that with everything the Left and the Democrat Party do, it's planned out well in advance. You don't suddenly pull a multi-thousand page bill out of a desk drawer like Obamacare the same way Gomez Addams pulls out stacks of hundreds. This Ministry of Truth had to have been planned out months if not years ago. The Musk move on Twitter, as well as the impending disaster this coming November and probably a bigger one two years from now, cannot be allowed to happen. That is, assuming America such as it is has not been reduced to rubble by then. So, voila! A government agency to make sure you get the truth - good and hard.

So, we have this "Disinformation Governance Board." What statutory, regulatory or even prosecutorial power does it have? Is the dissemination of what it and it alone deems "disinformation" deemed to be a criminal offense? Piss-Hockey herself babbled about Chinese COVID and the elections. If I question vaccines and masks, if I question the legitimacy of 2020, if I object to the catamitization of our children, do I get sent to the Garland Archipelago? Are GOP candidates like Marjorie Taylor Greene, Matt Gaetz and Donald Trump barred from running for office? Hell, does the GOP itself (my hatred of it notwithstanding) become designated a "white supremacist terrorist organization" and outlawed?

If you think that those questions are tinfoil hat nuttery, I remind you that had you predicted the coming of such as thing as this "Disinformation Governance Board" even two years ago, you'd have been laughed out of the room.

And yet here we are in the here and now.

Have a good weekend.

18 Holy Hand-Grnade of Antioch Jerusalem discovered.
A study on the vessels titled "Composition of trace residues from the contents of 11th-12th century sphero-conical vessels from Jerusalem" has published in the journal PLoS One.

The ancient ceramic vessels originated from Jerusalem sometime around the 11th and 12th centuries, and new analysis indicates they may have been used as a form of medieval hand grenade. Researchers found similar vessels often contained scented oils, medicines, and various materials, but the vessels they analyzed appear to have been used to hold flammable and potentially explosive material.

Similar vessels have been reported as being used during the time of the Crusades and were known for "producing loud noises and bright flashes of light." The material inside the vessels analyzed indicates it was a unique, locally produced explosive, not black powder.

42 Michelle Malkin and Thomas Lifson criticize Orrin Hatch primarily for his support of open borders, but that misstates the issue. Like most pro-immigration politicians Senator Hatch opposed effective border control AND was strongly pro-immigration. Too many Uniparty politicians, who know that immigration volumes would be a huge issue if America could build a wall and actually protect its border with Mexico, choose instead to obfuscate the problem, and hamstring effective border governance to avoid the debate on immigration. They'd rather fight against a strong border than for immigration.

In the process, Uniparty politicians (ie, the entire GOPe Senate caucus) knowingly accept human traffiking, fentanyl imports, and criminal gang cross-border activity. Death and destruction, thanks to the Republican Senate, and all because they want to avoid a loser debate issue on immigration.

47 “The spread of disinformation can affect border security,"

That was my favorite lie in the whole department briefing. The threat is so great they could only best characterize it as "can affect".

I would love to have an example of this so-called "disinformation" other than the official disinformation coming from the junta that "can effect" border security when the borders are wide open and entities are actually paid money to encourage and facilitate it.

Perhaps I am eisegeting the feared "effect". The hypothetical "disinformation" that can have an effect may just be revealing the truth regarding the wide open borders to We The People and adding to a movement to ouster the Communists who are burning this country to the ground through unchecked immigration, smuggling and human trafficking.

It also says a very great deal that, when faced with supposed "disinformation," the government defaults to censorship, instead of transparency.

It's like they don't know how *not* to lie, so the only thing they can do is force you to shut up.

And don't forget the "malinformation" that they just decided was every bit as bad as "dis-" or "mis-" information. That's what should have everyone really upset. Saying "there are four lights" is just as bad to this regime as any sort of lie you might tell.

Heard arranged for big donations to the ACLU. He's suing for defamation.

Testimony is that she actually physically abused him, shat in their bed, etc, etc. Expert testimony says she has Histrionic Personality Disorder.

The final building will be 2.3 million square feet and house 30,000 employees. Eventually, the board will acquire land in all 50 states to house Disinformation Combat Brigades and Quick Reaction Teams to extinguish hot spots of disinformation before they spread to the general populace. ++++
Sure, but they might end up making one, or something they can credibly call white supremacy. It is unlikely to actually be a supremacist movement, but it may well be segregationist. They are attacking whites with increasing furor. Not just in engineered riots, but in every facet of life. In school, to be white is to be evil. At work, to be white is to be disequitable. To have children when white is to perpetuate oppression. To be white, in the popular culture, is to have inborn and inescapable evil and to be saddled with the most egregious kind of original sin. Even if you escape it by cutting your dick off and become oppressed, you the white tranny are still less oppressed than the black tranny.

This structure they have built could well result in a white solidarity movement and segregationism, even though I doubt that was the goal.

The amount of money being spent on Warnock is breathtaking. I am not a Georgia resident, though I do live in the region. The guy who owned this house before me was a good Democrat in good standing, and so I get a lot of Dem-related mail addressed to him. The moment the government said that "information which is true but hurts our cause" was just as bad as actual lies, the jig should have been up. I know Republicans can't do much (other than shout and use outrage in fundraising emails), but if they don't immediately do something big - like set the budget to DHS to 0 - once (if) they do take over in 2023...

Well... I mean, really, that's exactly what I expect them to do. Posture and complain and then say "Oh, if ONLY we had..." and not actually do anything.

As someone said above - they stole the ballot box, they've fixed the jury box, and now they're trying to take away the soap box. And I don't expect Republican, Ltd., or Conservative, Inc., to do a damn thing about it.

156 Absolutely. That's how the game is played. Electrics and hybrids are heavily subsidized by trucks and SUVs. It's why the Rivian costs $100K or whatever. They don't sell anything else to tack $1500 onto.
Posted by: Moron Robbie - Billions for Ukraine's war, not a penny for peace talks at April 29, 2022 08:04 AM (rjyzh)

I don't think that it works that way. It's more like this: the base Lightning exists on paper. It is never actually produced or shipped. It exists to say hey you can get an electric F150 for only $40k and you can go hey that sounds affordable and you go look at it and the cheapest one on the lot is $65k.

The fact that Ford also builds and sells a ton of gas trucks doesn't subsidize the EV build, but the fact of scale does reduce costs - Ford already has supplier chains and paint shops and other things that Rivian has to stand up from scratch. And, yes, those costs are spread over the entire fleet of millions of sales, while Rivian has one model.

158 146 Looking at RealClear, I see a new Georgia poll saying Warnock beats Walker. AA voters go 90-10 for Warnock in the poll, and Warnock wins suburban voters too, and the big issues cited are "voter suppression" and "racial injustice". Stacey Abrams is making a strong impression with Georgia voters.

I have no idea what the political leanings of Real Clear Politics are, but, no, no way are "voter Suppression" and "racial Injustice" the big issues except with people with an agenda. They're a big issue with big Stacy Abrams. They're a big issue with leftist "Reverend" Warnock. Your ordinary AA, I'm guessing-at least the ones I know are-are more concerned with gas prices and inflation and border security. It is. I've been keeping up with the industry since the Prius started balancing out their additional costs to all the other vehicles in the Toyota lineup. These people are their worst enemy. Notice how they make backhanded statements that fully endorse the belief that the White Man is genetically superior, in every way, to everyone else.

Their favorite phrase includes: "....will harm women and minorities the greatest".

We know that "minority" doesn't retain its dictionary definition but has been deconstructed to mean "not white", (which apparently strips "white Hispanics" from accidentally be thought as "white" unless the name is George Zimmerman.)

So the billions of people who are not "white" a/o female suffer from practically everything, but the White Man is universally resilient and dominant in every way.

This is from their words.

215 I have been looking at the lightning, because the marketing suggests it may be better than a gas F150 for a comparable price to the equivalent trim package. But, they don't talk about range much, and they say that it has a 2500lb payload with the standard battery, and a 10,000lb towing capacity with the extended range battery. I find it odd that they have a different basis of comparison for the battery packs. Maybe you can't tow with the standard battery?

222 189 A hard truh is that people often vote against their own self interest. Reasons for that are various, but it usually boils down to Party lies, ancestral voting patterns, and tribalism. The Democrats exploit these so very very well, the Republicans are usually incompetent.

I disagree. People almost always vote for what they think of as their self interest, with financial or moral almost always #1.

That said, some people have varied self interests that cross parties, so sometimes they value one interest more than another. When that happens, it's usually financial that wins, although pro-lifers tend to be one group that bucks that trend.

Loss leaders are subsidized, but they're subsidized internally for some other business purpose (getting people in the door to spend more, complying with some regulatory scheme, for goodwill marketing, etc.). They are not a "subsidy" in a more traditional sense of outside capital - usually taxpayer capital - being directed to loss-making enterprises.

Pixar was the gold standard for family entertainment. They did Disney better than Disney did. Pixar movies were family-friendly, loved by children and enjoyable by adults. They threaded that difficult needle of simple stories accessible to children that weren't pandering or disrespectful of children, and didn't assume that children were stupid, that understood that parents need to be there, too and that the movie needs to be tolerable or even enjoyable for grown-ups, and they threaded it time after time with damn few misses.

Then Disney bought them and fired the brains of the operation. I know that John Lasseter may have been a cad and a bounder who took liberties with female staff (if the story is to be believed), but he was was also responsible for their success. Without Lasseter, Pixar has been free-wheeling and Disneyfied.

Gotcha, sorry, I meant internal subsidies, not government ones. The Tundra supports the Prius, the Escalade supports the Spark, etc.

Both are missing the mark but elements are correct.

There are hard mandates by government and soft mandates by investors and buyer groups. I suspect that the major automakers will take a loss on the development of BEV because its a tax write-off, supports certain regulations and requirement check-boxes, boosts their ESG scores and gets favorable media coverage.

Note none of the motivations have anything to do with building a practical product for a willing market.

299 I think we are at an inflection point, but are still 10 years from the tech being refined enough for widespread use.

Only if materials science comes a long way in those 10 years. As someone said, the short range of electric vehicles is a physics problem - and one that we don't have a solution for, yet.

In a way, it's weird, because I would expect EVs to have the opposite of the "fuel-weight problem." Instead of getting lighter as they have less fuel - and therefore being easier (if only slightly) to move, EVs would not change their mass (weight) and would therefore be losing energy and *not* gaining efficiency.

Of course, I don't know that for sure, but it seems reasonable to me.

Whatever all the reasons behind it, until you can get 500 or 600 miles - reliably - from an EV, it won't be a practical vehicle for most people in the US. We may not travel that far very often, but when we need to travel that far, we don't want to be tied to electric charging stations (if we can find one) for hours.

None of the above. It will be used as a Junta propaganda and bad-think broadcast outlet, direct to media, state and local governments, Antifa, banks - hell, to everyone who wants to tune in. The Junta is cutting-out the communications middlemen in its effort to ban bad-think while simultaneously promoting correct-think.

I expect the Board will issue official press releases that say, X is disinformation about subject Y, and belief in X could result in death and destruction. Z is the approved CDC or FDA or whatever agency information and guidance on subject Y. No direction to ban X will be in the release or to promote Z will be in the release,

Big Media and FaceBook and so on will follow the hint about what ban and promote, letting the Junta get around the First Amendment prohibition on government controlling or directing control of our speech.

The Board's "guidance" will be used as a veneer of Expert Government-approved fact checking using the Appeal to Authority logical fallacy that many people are susceptible to.

350 322 Whatever all the reasons behind it, until you can get 500 or 600 miles - reliably - from an EV, it won't be a practical vehicle for most people in the US. We may not travel that far very often, but when we need to travel that far, we don't want to be tied to electric charging stations (if we can find one) for hours.
Posted by: AllenG #Texit at April 29, 2022 08:47 AM (M/jpK)

The fleet at casa blaster contains 5 vehicles. None of them can go 500 or 600 miles on a single tank. I think that the market has determined that 300ish is an acceptable number, and that pretty much covers the fleet at casa blaster.
----
Okay, 300 miles. Then your gasoline car pulls into a gas station, fills the tank in about 3 minutes while the driver or/and passengers freshen up and get coffee, then drive off 10 minutes later.
The EV pulls in into a gas station that also has a charging station, waits for an open slot, plugs in and while the car charges they can all go in and get refreshments, etc., except for one to remain on guard so no one disconnects the charging cable. Then one hour/several hours later (?) they drive off.

But the time cost for refueling is negligible. 300ish miles is perfectly acceptable range when the refuel time - from hitting the brakes to take the exit to getting back up to speed at the end of the on-ramp - is about 10 or 15 minutes. At 75 mph average cruising speed, that refueling stop costs you about 19 miles, representing about 6.3% overhead to refuel, assuming you need to refuel every 300 miles.

With "supercharging" (not universally available and absolute hell on the batteries), you're looking at a half hour to recharge. With standard L2 charging, you're looking at 8 hours. That's a non-starter, so we'll assume supercharging is available. With your pit-stops taking about 35 minutes, that costs you about 44 miles, or 14.7% overhead if recharging every 300 miles. To get those overheads down, range must increase.

It's the charge time that's the killer, so they need to go farther. Even with a "fast charge" you'd be there charging fully for hours.

But, with a car that reliably gets, say 600 miles per full charge and reliably gets 300 miles with a 15(?) minute "fast charge". It's doable. Most people spend, if traveling with kids especially, about 15 minutes at the gas station to pee and grab drinks or snacks or whatever.

Also, need a battery that doesn't degrade over a 10+ year period, and is easily and cheaply replace3d when it does.

That's doable, if stupid cuz we've got a better, cheaper, more reliable system in place right now.

361 That SOB Mayorkas should be impeached. First he allows/invites our southern border to be overrun by millions of illegal aliens, and now he's sending VA doctors and nurses to the border to treat the illegal alien moochers' medical issues on our dime (or more accurately, our billions of dollars, since the illegal hordes cost U.S. taxpayers billions every year as we're forced by our own stupid laws to treat their medical issues for "free"). But now Mayorkas is actually having the VA reassign doctors and nurses who are supposed to be treating our vets to the border, so they can treat illegal aliens.

Remember in the Obama administration when the VA was using fake appointments to deny care to sick veterans who needed help? Well now they have an even better excuse: sick illegal aliens coming here to break our laws and mooch off us should obviously take precedence over sick U.S. military veterans who were promised medical care in exchange for their service.

That last one is less of a big deal than ever. The locations of charging stations are well known and you I bet that you can probably tell Google Maps (which is the dominant player) to handle the problem by telling you to exit to recharge before every X miles (or it could communicate with the car itself and dynamically assign recharge based on current conditions and availability ahead).

But that helps you not at all if the chargers have been vandalized or are broken, or if one of the assumptions change.

And don't forget the cost of batteries is going up everyday because of rare earth shortages.

We had a Ford fusion hybrid and once we got over 50,000 miles on it the value of that car plummeted because it was getting close to where we were going to have to replace the battery. Ford quoted us a price of almost $10,000 to replace the battery and they recommended replacement at 75,000 miles back then. That included a mandatory "fee" for recycling the battery. Now they say you can get 100,000 miles out of a battery. But you still lose 2-3% battery capacity every year reducing your range every year.

And didn't Justice Kennedy tell us all that we have no right to tell anybody else who they should love? So why is this consensual adult relationship being treated as a scandal?

Yeah, I know. It probably doesn't make sense to add them special, but during a build-out or renovation the costs are a lot more manageable and would probably attract EV drivers. If I have to cool my jets for a half hour waiting for the battery to fill up, I'd rather go in and grab a bit and play a game or whatever than sit in the car waiting. I'd plan to stop there on trips.

Nat Gas conversions have been quite a thing in Texas, more so a few years ago. All of Fort Worth's city buses run off Nat Gas even now. The only disadvantage with nat gas is that it requires a much heavier, pressurized tank, which limits its use to larger vehicles where the extra weight is not a concern.

And these things, in all of their simplicity, have a short useful life. As the installed base ages, more and more will become inoperable and no one is interested in keeping them functional. See also: windmills. Tons of funny money to put them up, damn little to maintain them. There's a reason why so many wind farms have so many stationary windmills. Some of them just aren't turning, but a lot of them have been locked down. If a blade breaks or there's a problem in the generator or whatever, it costs a *lot* of money to get out there to service it and to get new parts. It's much cheaper just to lock the spindle and prevent it from turning and breaking up. Bigger wind farms will cannibalize ever couple of years (take good parts from broken units to bring other broken units online), but they all become uneconomical.

496 To me there's no question that Pence did not have the powers some suggested over the electoral process. In my opinion the reconsideration some have suggested is not only unconstitutional but really subversive. Can you imagine if Democrats did that?

My issue with Pence is he was not vocal enough on what we now know were electoral integrity issues which changed the election. Even now he hasn't spoke out on any of the things being uncovered in several states.

Ultimately Democrats knew exactly what they were doing when they undermined the election with fraud, ballot harvesting and the subversion of state legislative power. There was no way to beat that post election- we were simply not prepared. But it's inexcusable that almost zero is being done by the national GOP to bring up the factual issues and materially address electoral integrity issues.

You don't do a One Size Fits None application. The building is that large green neon building - at that time the tallest building in Dallas.

I think mine was April 4, 1955 - weekend before Easter. Easter Monday is usually a holiday (Holy day) in Catholic countries.

Actually, it's more like the size of California. Pretty damn big, land mass wise. People, only about 10 million. With more coming in from the Middle East every damn year.

532 We, the people, need to do something about this DG Board. I'm dead serious. Can we file some sort of class action law suit? I know that sounds silly or ridiculous but, how do we stop this extreme censorship on our right to free speech???????? I'm not liking this at all. This is very frightening, people.

533 The only disinformation that will be allowed will be that which spouts forth from the Goverment, it's minions, and it's acolytes. All other information, no matter how true, will be quashed.
I'm sure the wise latina and the "penalty as a tax" and serveral other SCOTUS members will agree the Gov't has this RIGHT.

534 Every attack carried out on US soil has been executed by a Known Wolf. This is a person or person known to the FBI and USINT.

Our "intelligence services" knew who these people were, where they were, what their violent histories were, and in most cases that they were planning "something". And they were allowed to kill Americans on American soil every single time.

Every human being who lives off a federal government check is an enemy to America. Civil War 2.0 cannot come soon enough.

535 28 Vancouver B.C. man faces deportation from Bali for dancing naked on a sacred volcano...

They could put him on a much shorter "flight" than the one to Vancouver.

536 From JJ's original post:
"" Lend-Lease? Really?! Sheesh.
House Brings Back World War II-Era Weapons Program to Support Ukraine, Biden Expected to Sign ""

Karl Denninger over at Market-Ticker.org says this is just like when the Lusitania was carrying war materiel to Europe. By agreed-upon rules-of-war the Nazis *were* justified in sinking that ship (we LIED when we claimed there was nothing of military interest aboard). Furthermore in shipping arms to Ukraine, WE ARE RIGHT NOW inviting "!unexpected!" reprisals from Russia.

Look for the post titled "We Are Now At War With Russia"
dated 4/28.
