According to Bloomberg, sources say that the social media company is in "the final stretch of negotiations" with Musk for a $43 billion sale. Twitter is apparently finalizing terms for the transaction, and that could be completed today should everything "go smoothly."Could be kabuki by the board, pretending to accept the offer so they can bring up a problem at the 11th hour -- so they can show shareholders they seriously entertained the offer (so they don't get sued) while rejecting it.
These events follow Twitter putting together a "shareholders rights plan" in an effort to block Musk’s gargantuan offer.lol, when he buys your shares you don't have them and so you have no rights. lol. In fact, I see it as a net negative for the left right now, because it has become a leftist feeding ground for circular thinking and signal boosting, especially when it comes to journalists.

Which is a stupid point. You don't act as a publisher or infringe on free speech when you enforce actual, hard and fast laws. Complying with a legitimate DMCA takedown notice is *not* censorship. Prohibiting and removing illegal speech (calls to violence, incitements to riot, etc.) is not censorship. Prohibiting and removing child pornography is not censorship.
This is a classic play and it's a straightforward move toward false equivalence. "If you allow America First nationalism or anti-Leftism, you also allow child porn and violence" is a stupid argument, but I would expect to see a *lot* of it in the near term.

It could be, but I sort of doubt it. I suspect they might be more afraid of liability than they love the money. They don't own much stock. It's a lot in dollar terms, but it isn't much in the grand scheme of the company.
Musk's offer was obscene and they would expose themselves to liability if they refuse it, because they'd be violating their fiduciary duty. I doubt a single one of them likes what they've had to do.

Probably. But usually most people who are bought into a stock with mutual funds have no idea they even hold it. So I'm guessing, given the high profile nature of this, lots of people checked their holdings, saw they were set to lose lots of money if the offer doesn't get accepted, and instead of being silent as they usually are, actually called their brokers and demanded they do something.

We *have* been purging the GOP; never forget that the reason the House went back to Pelosi was that Paul Ryan and 40 fellow travelers voluntarily gave up their offices, without enough time left to select replacements, in order to guarantee that Pelosi would be speaker. As of today, they are only 10 complete traitors from the GOP-e left in the House (the 10 who voted for impeachment) and 4 of those are gone for sure next term, 6 to go.
Cleaning up our side of the Senate was always going to be a 20 year project, and we're not even halfway there yet.

It's true that bots are a huge issue on twatter, artificially inflating numbers across the board. It's also true that people were getting tired of twatter and not using it. That includes high-profile celebs. It might change temporarily, but I'm not sure there's any fixing the trajectory. All I see Musk doing is getting rid of the artificial aspects, and enforcing rules - clear rules - equally.

This might be true, actually. Tight labor market plus hardcore ideology ("I quit because of Musk" is the opposite side of the coin from "I won't work for Musk") might make it hard to replace people.
But I suspect this isn't true because there aren't actually as many hardcore ideologues as they think. Tech has a lot of them, and there will be turnover and there will be people who refuse to work for Twitter as a result, but I doubt that it will be nearly as many as they're implying.

There will always be one dominant platform, because social media depends on network effects and the larger the network, the more useful the platform. Even if we achieve my dream of breaking up the big tech companies, it will be followed by reconsolidation (or some new outfit rising) that takes over everything and wins the whole board. Social media is naturally monopolistic.
This doesn't mean we shouldn't break them up, but it does mean that breaking them up is only a mid-term fix. It will have to be done serially.

Twitter was overburdened with their censor apparatus and various offshoots--Trust Council, etc. Would not be surprised that at least one third of the employees are non-productive and furthermore--quite a bit could be shipped out to somewhere like India as protection against a feral US government. Twitter done correctly could be a worldwide headline news service with links to the blogosphere for deeper analysis.

I am a bit skeptical that this is true. However, I do believe that Musk recognizes that the government is involved in his business to hurt him and by owning Twitter he will have leverage against them due to the Government's illegal/unconstitutional suppression of speech through the platform.

Sounds like they wouldn't have much work to do to retool the StarCruiser hotel to fit the bill. Even with working bits, there's so much stuff that can cause issues. Uterine pH levels killing sperm. Fallopian tube torsion. Just because you got lucky once doesn't mean you will easily get lucky again. That's how we ended up doing two rounds of IVF. For Grimes, it's readily affordable. With that kind of budget, I'd go all test tube just to schedule a pregnancy for convenience purposes.
