End of the month close-out on curiosities

The Ministry of Truth

I love to see the New York Post running this editorial:

Insane as it is that the Department of Homeland Security has created a Disinformation Governance Board, it's utter madness that the woman running it is Nina Jankowicz, who's a veteran disinfo spreader.

She embraced and promoted the bogus Clinton-campaign-created Trump-Russia dossier. And she waged war on The Post's true and accurate reporting of Hunter Biden's laptop.

As our first laptop stories ran, The Associated Press reported: "Disinformation experts say there are multiple red flags that raise doubts about their authenticity, including questions about whether the laptop actually belongs to Hunter Biden, said Nina Jankowicz."

She also told the AP: "We should view it as a Trump campaign product." . .

Look: She's a career left-wing partisan, from her days working at the National Democratic Institute to her Fulbright-Clinton fellowship to her gig at the left-leaning Wilson Center where she routinely did media hits with NPR, CNN, PBS and so on while placing New York Times and Washington Post opeds. Hiring her for this job just shows how detached from reality and broad American society the entire Biden team has become.

Plus, why does the administration even need another disinformation czar when it already has Jen Psaki?

Go get 'em, New York Post! You deserve it.

I liked the reference to the Wilson Center. Wilson was not exactly a model for civil rights or the free flow of information. They quote John Adams, not Wilson, on their home page. Heh.

In their "programs" they have a podcast on conflict resolution and peacebuilding in Ukraine and the Western Hemisphere. I thought that was unusual. I haven't listened to it.

The New York Post also touched on the possibility that the chief attorney for Twitter, the one who probably banned the New York Post, might lose her 17 million dollar a year job. That would be a shame.

Europe

Just a couple of links:

VDH: Is Ukraine our Spanish Civil War? And also, Remembering Orwell's Bad Republicans.

What a mess. Wonder if that Wilson Center podcast in the previous segment has any insights into preventing something similar?

Electric buses are randomly exploding in Paris.

Dramatic. Green Energy!

Elon Musk Buys Twitter

Okay, before we get into Elon Musk, how about that Adam Schiff?

The Federalist Editor-in-Chief Mollie Hemingway let Congressman Adam Schiff (D-CA) have it after Elon Musk's Twitter deal prompted him to question whether the billionaire entrepreneur would do enough to stymie the spread of "disinformation."

Others piled on.

"Adam Schiff worrying about disinformation is like Godzilla worrying about Tokyo's skyline," Eddie Zipperer joked.

Ain't THAT the truth!

Sean Davis summarizes.

And this is a bit concerning: "Antiracist" advisor to the United States military:

antiracisst.jpg

Dr._No prepared a little reminder for us:

Freedom of Speech_T_04282022.png

I liked Buck Throckmorton's discussion this week of oligarchs in connection with the Musk buyout of Twitter. Here with some additional sober thoughts, lefty Bret Weinstein wrote a thread on left vs. right and the reaction to the takeover of Twitter. It's interesting:

There is something wildly distorted about our discourse at the moment, but it is almost impossible to be even handed in describing it because the distortion is so one-sided. To be balanced would be to be wildly unfair to one side. And it isn't my native side. I'm a lefty.

Team Blue has an incredible weapon stretching from the Whitehouse to Facebook, running through Homeland Security, the CDC and every single university in the country. But SURPRISE, @elonmusk just took over the trigger of the weapon. Of course the end is neigh! Why wouldn't it be?

The hard part is for team blue to explain why it is freaking out as if the end coming when the only end that is really coming is the end of its monopoly on discourse in a country where no one is supposed to have one.

Pay attention to who's freaking out. They're confessing.

Bret also linked this kinda quirky, too-good-to-miss piece by Mike Solana on Pirate Wires:

Welcome to the Clown World. Boy, do we have ground to cover.

The social internet is always a Dali painting -- surreal and horrifying and beautiful. . .

But even by the gutter standards we've come to accept from media, this has been a month for the books.

In straight reporting, from Axios to The New York Times, the "unfettered" freedom to speak is now characterized as a radical position. In the pages of The Washington Post, there was a call for direct government intervention in our speech platforms. Just a crazy op-ed? I would have thought perhaps, prayed, and called it a night. But then President Obama entered the fray.

Last week, the former president flew to Stanford and delivered an hour-long speech on the dangers of social media. While not entirely horrible, the highlight was this: After referring to himself as something very close to a free speech "absolutist," the term we now use for people who simply believe in regular free speech, Obama openly toyed with the concept of government intervention on our speech platforms. The rules he would consider were left vague, but included anything that "helped democracy," the rule of law, and recognized the rights, freedoms, and dignity of all citizens. Of course, to achieve goals like this, almost any draconian censorship can be justified.

Obama's tactics here are of a kind we've seen from media and government for the last five years. No laws were plainly proposed, because no law concerning the regulation of speech can be easily enacted -- it's that pesky Constitution, you see. Obama's goal was to bully tech workers into doing censorship on our government's behalf, which is why his chosen audience was the next generation of Google engineers rather than Congress. Until recently, the legal loophole for would-be censors in government was simply asking, or threatening, a bunch of billionaires in tech to do it on your behalf. Today, at least one billionaire stands apart.

So, is the world about to end? I think it probably won't.

First and foremost, what we're about to get is drama. I mean all-caps DRAMA. From media to government, there are going to be takes like you have never seen. . .

In terms of strategic particulars, it's unclear what Elon will do. The man is good, but let's be real: He's chaotic good. . .

All of our trend lines have drifted toward authoritarianism, not just domestically or internationally at this moment, but historically. Freedom is an incredible aberration, and while it is a right, it doesn't come without a fight.

So thank you, Elon. If you screw this up we're probably doomed. No pressure.

5 Second LL game for my youngest, and it was a cakewalk. He is batting 1000, and yesterday he even got a new bat (+1", +1 oz.) right before the game. We spent some time in the batting cage. 2 RBIs.

First game for my oldest, first time playing infield. He played first and got one out. 2 RBIs, stole home twice.

Both won their games.

Does MLB still count RBI's? Back in the day it wasn't uncommon for the player with the most RBI to be voted the league MVP. These days I think they mostly base it on who has the highest bat speed.

17 Breitbart censored all my comments to the effect that their articles that seem to focus on the PERSON of Crazy-Eyes Jancowicz are a distraction, at best.

My point, and I think an obvious one, is that focusing on the Director of the new Minitru only helps the left move the Overton window to the idea that a government function to vet "misinformation" is somehow respectable.

The exact same focus on the PERSON from Fox/Brett Baier last night. His guest on the topic was all about how "unsuitable" Jancowicz was for "this position" --with Baier agreeing fatuously.

RUFKM? This "position" has no place in even a vaguely free society. Yet the so-called "conservative" press is all about the person and adopting the Marxist frame of debate.

Don't know. Never was a big MLB fan, and my primary interest in the game stems from my kids' interest (primarily my youngest's intensity and focus). The youngest eats, sleeps, and drinks baseball, and it is not uncommon for him to hit 50 balls in a day. He is the reason that I chose to coach this year for the first time ever. It has been a steep learning curve for me to keep up with him to offer him anyway benefit on his development.

28 Early in Obama's term he nationalized student loan approvals, removing the credit assessment aspect. It's certainly a step toward explicit state censorship. I just don't think it will be any more transparent than what's already happening.

71 "Misinformation" is any wrong information. As I understand it, "Disinformation" is a specific category of misinformation, where there is intent to deceive by, for example, pushing a Trump/Russia false narrative.

The MSM is mostly disinformation, like the narrative that early treatments for Covid were all dangerous, vaccines were 100% safe, masks work, etc. The Covid response was a coordinated assault on our country, facilitating election fraud and damaging (conservative leaning) small business while boosting Woke Corp.

The role of The Ministry of Truth is to silence/punish truth tellers, which strengthens the Disinformation campaigns.

88 I generally like Weinstein, and he's definitely a Lefty because he has the usual Lefty blinders on. He keeps mentioning "progress" in the abstract without defining it. This allows him to commit the standard Lefty mistake of claiming conservatives are resistant to progress, which is what academics refer to as "horseshit".

No, Bret, first you must define progress, then you must demonstrate how your proposal will lead to progress with more than vapid slogans and magical thinking. The Right wants you to explain yourself and defend your position, but the Left now responds to that entirely reasonable outlook with "shut up, bigot, nice job ya got there..."

He then goes on to label a few people who used to be considered center-ish and leaning Left as on the Right, which goes to show how far the Left has moved the center. And he only alludes to the fact that the far right of his description is insignificant and inconsequential, while the far Left of his description are running the show.

Peter Principle is when a person succeeds and is promoted till he is put in a position where he does not succeed. The no more promotion ... so stuck in the position he fails at.

But Obama was not promoted for being smart or logical, he never succeeded at much of anything, other than having a nice crease and being somewhat articulate at reading a teleprompter. His image was manufactured.

Barry "succeeded" (for the commies) at every position, even POTUS ... because he kept reading the script, pushing far left policies, and being (half) black. His eight years of destruction were a big win (for the commies/DeepState).

Not knowing who is in charge can make policy incoherent.

I submit that there are several tranches in play: You have the parties that long ago purchased the Bidens, they are now harvesting their investments (Russia, China, Ukraine, etc.)

Then there are the independent war lords: State, DOJ, DOD, Dept of Ed., EPA, IRS, etc. They operate the same no matter who is heading the Executive Branch and they are largely accountable to no one. It is made up of bureaucrats who are captured and once their pensions are secured will move to contracting a/o board memberships a/o sinecures in the businesses they regulated and made deals with.

There is Kalorama and K Street who influence who are the warlords and judges. I believe that the Ministry of Truth is a Kalorama move.

Then Congress is the bagmen for the grift and will steer projects and cash to their patrons.

It is an attempt to create a cartel of the industry -- similar to the "anti-monopoly" moves on the railroads in the late 1800's and early 1900's.
Cartels are created to exclude outside competition and fix prices within the cartel, to allow greater costs for the consumer and less services and so greater profits.

The problem is that outsiders will undercut them and the members of the cartel cheat on each other unless the government (which the members of the cartel are influencing as experts on the needs of the industry) oversees them with regulations, a central board, and all that bureaucracy.

That the social media will act as another member of the IC is just icing and encourages the feral government to accept the push from "concerned industry insiders" to set up regulatory boards

Uh ... how does one go about becoming a "disinformation expert?" Is there an online course or something? Some certificate?

I love how the Reds worship at the stinky feet of anyone who is deemed an "expert." I was an expert witness in some litigation, and at trial was asked how the opposing expert witness and I could disagree when given the same facts.

My reply: "How many Supreme Court decisions are unanimous?"

A long silence ensued.

228 I suspect that Ukraine is a new Iran Contra deal. With all the participating skimming their own take to keep quiet.

Ukraine has always been profoundly corrupt and unstable. (I have been working for quite some time on gathering ESG data from around the globe for certain clients)

Ukraine is special in that it is in the center of a Venn diagram consisting of the Biden Corruption payoff, the DOD/MIC making up for lost opportunities during the Trump scale down, and the State department's universe of NGOs and other grifters who want to relive their Woodstock (the Iraq Food For Oil Sweepstakes and Cash Giveaway) in another fully unaccountable outpouring of cash and prizes to a fully corrupt and unstable "government" (similar to Iraq).

Similar to the C19 and AIDS "pandemics", fully irrelevant NGOs and other ambulance chasing activists invent reasons why they should be in on the grift, particularly when tens of billions of dollars are being tossed around. That explains why Climate Change, Human and Animal Rights, Environmental Groups and other unaffiliated are muscling in on the action and speaking up for some tangential cause.

236 My Little League playing time was entirely due to the league rule that every kid had to play some in every game.

So there I was, in my second season, last game of the season for the Championship, Home team. We started the bottom of the ninth behind in runs but the batters ahead of me got some hits and walks to tie it up. Their pitcher is tiring and throwing more balls than strikes.

My turn to bat and the score is tied, 2 outs, bases loaded. Every kid's fantasy, right?, to hit a walk-off grand slam.

237 2 of 2

Coach comes over to the on-deck circle and with pleading in his eyes, tells me not to swing at any pitch.

So I go to the plate, kids from both teams are yelling their heads off, as are the parents. No pressure at all. I watch the pitches go by, as instructed, and the count gets to 3-2.

My Coach call TIME! and comes over to reinforce the No Swing instruction.

Last pitch for all the marbles, the whole season, is coming. I watch it go by for a called 4th Ball and trot off to first base. The kid from third base scores while pandemonium erupts.

That was the highlight of my athletic career.

Sorry for putting panic in people's voice. We're doing it early as that's when I could get concert tickets.

Next weekend I am rebuilding a dry stacked stone wall for her.

288 And here is today's "brilliant" response by an evangelistic militant Atheist in response to the gay Atheist weirdo in Florida who wants the Bible banned if it's ever used in schools-any schools-and thinks it's terribly amusing to put up a display (Because he runs a church of Called the "Church of Mars") for Easter of Jesus crucified upside down with a butt plug and who seels butt plugs with DeSantis and Trump on them'

"Well, at least he doesn't have imaginary friends." Man, that is some deep, intellectual and well reasoned rebuttal there./s

290 29+ years ago I got a call at work from lady Agent so and so of the DEA. A Nigerian gentleman had been nabbed at the Detroit airport with heroin and a list of stolen CC#s including mine. Had to write a few letters to a fancy Detroit retailer that I'd never been there or bought 600$ (1983 $) worth of clothes.

You know you're 29+ if you remember a Detroit with fancy retailers.

That works if you use the card only for purchases. Getting cash from an ATM with a credit card is a ripoff with various extra charges

293 This sucks. Not only do I have ad blockers, but Firefox is set to block this kind of ad specifically. Good job Ace!

Posted by: Uma Thurmond's Feet

I get the same ad that crushes the speed of any device and I have adblockers and use Brave.
I only post here on shit posting devices tho.
Thanks for the heads of that it was malicious adware.
Hell, there are times late!u when my devices won't connect and warns me this site in is unprotected and people can steal your shit and not to connect.
Appreciate the update that its malicious adware. No telling what else the bad actors may ad to it like ransomware or some shit.

295 I withdraw a month's cash expenditure, put it in a drawer and carry a week's amount in my bill fold.

ATM's are not only a rip off they are dangerous.
ATM's are not for your convenience they are another device for the bank to make money.

299 And seriously, these ads suck, but they're endemic. Particularly if Google is suppressing ad rates for a site. Generally, you can work/buy your way out of that problem, but not Ace, and not ever for him.

You can guarantee he's so far down Alphabet's shit list that he's looking *up* at Alex Jones.

If you can't live with that, here or elsewhere, there's plenty of bien-pensant midwit Conservative Media Ecosystem™websites serving up Google-vetted & approved right think for you to consume, along with their wholesome, bien-pensant midwit advertising.

If you want content that's a little too real for Eric Schmidt's Stepford Wives, you'll have to just learn to deal.

300 I've never understood belligerent and aggressive atheists. They keep trying to convince me that they are just meat and they will be nothing, sooner or later.

Somehow that doesn't gain my respect.

302 I've never understood belligerent and aggressive atheists.

------

That one's easy. All atheists have a lack of faith. Some people have thought through the implications of that, and come to their particular conclusion... They are the guys you never/rarely hear from about it.

Some of them came to it through an oppositional stance. They hate G-d and the rest of society and found a negatory philosophy. If the rest of their world was atheist, they'd be perpetual cage-stage Calvinists or radical Islamists. They're the ones you hear from.

Since their motive is hatred of self and others, they have to proselytize, or else be surrounded by perceived enemies.

Say--wouldn't she have to censor herself for supporting Insurrections?

She's also a "Global Fellow at the Wilson Center's Kennan Institute." Mr. Kennan, of course, DESPISED the expansion of NATO and the Russia-baiting which is at the root of this Deep State Crime Spree.

Yeah, they no longer need those fees, as they are making all the vendors pay to process both Credit and Debit cards.

Fees add up in a hurry, when rates vary between .5% and 1.7% of the total transaction...
