I love to see the New York Post running this editorial:

Insane as it is that the Department of Homeland Security has created a Disinformation Governance Board, it's utter madness that the woman running it is Nina Jankowicz, who's a veteran disinfo spreader.
She embraced and promoted the bogus Clinton-campaign-created Trump-Russia dossier. And she waged war on The Post's true and accurate reporting of Hunter Biden's laptop.
As our first laptop stories ran, The Associated Press reported: "Disinformation experts say there are multiple red flags that raise doubts about their authenticity, including questions about whether the laptop actually belongs to Hunter Biden, said Nina Jankowicz."
She also told the AP: "We should view it as a Trump campaign product." . .

Look: She's a career left-wing partisan, from her days working at the National Democratic Institute to her Fulbright-Clinton fellowship to her gig at the left-leaning Wilson Center where she routinely did media hits with NPR, CNN, PBS and so on while placing New York Times and Washington Post opeds. Hiring her for this job just shows how detached from reality and broad American society the entire Biden team has become.
Plus, why does the administration even need another disinformation czar when it already has Jen Psaki?

Go get 'em, New York Post! You deserve it.

I liked the reference to the Wilson Center. Wilson was not exactly a model for civil rights or the free flow of information. They quote John Adams, not Wilson, on their home page. Heh.

In their "programs" they have a podcast on conflict resolution and peacebuilding in Ukraine and the Western Hemisphere. I thought that was unusual. I haven't listened to it.

The New York Post also touched on the possibility that the chief attorney for Twitter, the one who probably banned the New York Post, might lose her 17 million dollar a year job. That would be a shame.

Okay, before we get into Elon Musk, how about that Adam Schiff?

The Federalist Editor-in-Chief Mollie Hemingway let Congressman Adam Schiff (D-CA) have it after Elon Musk's Twitter deal prompted him to question whether the billionaire entrepreneur would do enough to stymie the spread of "disinformation."

Others piled on.

"Adam Schiff worrying about disinformation is like Godzilla worrying about Tokyo's skyline," Eddie Zipperer joked.

I liked Buck Throckmorton's discussion this week of oligarchs in connection with the Musk buyout of Twitter. Here with some additional sober thoughts, lefty Bret Weinstein wrote a thread on left vs. right and the reaction to the takeover of Twitter. It's interesting:

There is something wildly distorted about our discourse at the moment, but it is almost impossible to be even handed in describing it because the distortion is so one-sided. To be balanced would be to be wildly unfair to one side. And it isn't my native side. I'm a lefty.

Team Blue has an incredible weapon stretching from the Whitehouse to Facebook, running through Homeland Security, the CDC and every single university in the country. But SURPRISE, @elonmusk just took over the trigger of the weapon. Of course the end is neigh! Why wouldn't it be?
The hard part is for team blue to explain why it is freaking out as if the end coming when the only end that is really coming is the end of its monopoly on discourse in a country where no one is supposed to have one.
Pay attention to who's freaking out. They're confessing.

In straight reporting, from Axios to The New York Times, the "unfettered" freedom to speak is now characterized as a radical position. In the pages of The Washington Post, there was a call for direct government intervention in our speech platforms. Just a crazy op-ed? I would have thought perhaps, prayed, and called it a night. But then President Obama entered the fray.
Last week, the former president flew to Stanford and delivered an hour-long speech on the dangers of social media. While not entirely horrible, the highlight was this: After referring to himself as something very close to a free speech "absolutist," the term we now use for people who simply believe in regular free speech, Obama openly toyed with the concept of government intervention on our speech platforms. The rules he would consider were left vague, but included anything that "helped democracy," the rule of law, and recognized the rights, freedoms, and dignity of all citizens. Of course, to achieve goals like this, almost any draconian censorship can be justified.

Obama's tactics here are of a kind we've seen from media and government for the last five years. No laws were plainly proposed, because no law concerning the regulation of speech can be easily enacted -- it's that pesky Constitution, you see. Obama's goal was to bully tech workers into doing censorship on our government's behalf, which is why his chosen audience was the next generation of Google engineers rather than Congress. Until recently, the legal loophole for would-be censors in government was simply asking, or threatening, a bunch of billionaires in tech to do it on your behalf. Today, at least one billionaire stands apart.
So, is the world about to end? I think it probably won't.
First and foremost, what we're about to get is drama. I mean all-caps DRAMA. From media to government, there are going to be takes like you have never seen. . .

In terms of strategic particulars, it's unclear what Elon will do. The man is good, but let's be real: He's chaotic good. . .
All of our trend lines have drifted toward authoritarianism, not just domestically or internationally at this moment, but historically. Freedom is an incredible aberration, and while it is a right, it doesn't come without a fight.
So thank you, Elon. If you screw this up we're probably doomed. No pressure.

5 Second LL game for my youngest, and it was a cakewalk. He is batting 1000, and yesterday he even got a new bat (+1", +1 oz.) right before the game. We spent some time in the batting cage. 2 RBIs.

First game for my oldest, first time playing infield. He played first and got one out. 2 RBIs, stole home twice.

Both won their games.

Does MLB still count RBI's? Back in the day it wasn't uncommon for the player with the most RBI to be voted the league MVP. These days I think they mostly base it on who has the highest bat speed.

My point, and I think an obvious one, is that focusing on the Director of the new Minitru only helps the left move the Overton window to the idea that a government function to vet "misinformation" is somehow respectable.

The exact same focus on the PERSON from Fox/Brett Baier last night. His guest on the topic was all about how "unsuitable" Jancowicz was for "this position" --with Baier agreeing fatuously.

Don't know. Never was a big MLB fan, and my primary interest in the game stems from my kids' interest (primarily my youngest's intensity and focus). The youngest eats, sleeps, and drinks baseball, and it is not uncommon for him to hit 50 balls in a day. He is the reason that I chose to coach this year for the first time ever. It has been a steep learning curve for me to keep up with him to offer him anyway benefit on his development.

No longer was anyone denied because their loans would be used to get useless degrees at sub-standard (or for-profit schools operated by Obama donors). I don't think that will happen. I suspect this will just be more of what the government is already doing--quietly pressuring companies to censor and deplatform people they don't like.

It's certainly a step toward explicit state censorship. I just don't think it will be any more transparent than what's already happening.

I fully understand and sympathize. We have watched a few older Little League World Series games, and we will likely start going to local HS and league games - not MLB - out of interest. The LLWS games are surprisingly good, and you can catch one in about 1.5 hours on YT.

I fully understand and sympathize. We have watched a few older Little League World Series games, and we will likely start going to local HS and league games - not MLB - out of interest. The LLWS games are surprisingly good, and you can catch one in about 1.5 hours on YT.

We have fielding slop, for sure, with our starters. But we have enough stronger players to get the hits and runs to afford moving some lesser talented players some infield to get some time at position and allow the opposing team to rack up some runs and catch up. Then, it is bedlam.

For baseball I can still imagine the smell the field before a game, the uniform, the equipment bag, the catchers equipment, of course the gloves, the concessions, etc.

121 The hardest transition older teenagers that play baseball have to face is the stigmatism of right field. High school ball, Legion ball, etc. You need your one of your best athletes in right field. Speed, hand eye, strong arm, willingness to dive, etc.
It's not even so much the batters are starting to learn hit to the opposite field, the pitching is so much faster most batters are being taught to swing early. Which means, right field.

There's a lot of smells you remember like Mom baking bread or maybe a lilac bush in your backyard. There are some that can take a person back to a dark time. I didn't really play baseball growing up, beyond some backyard ball. But I was gifted with a natural accuracy and strong arm, so I was put in left field when I played intramural ball in the Marines. I loved nailing the guys trying to take third from first on a base hit to left.

Usually only happened once a game unfortunately, because yeah, those stares are satisfying.

I submit that there are several tranches in play: You have the parties that long ago purchased the Bidens, they are now harvesting their investments (Russia, China, Ukraine, etc.)

It is an attempt to create a cartel of the industry -- similar to the "anti-monopoly" moves on the railroads in the late 1800's and early 1900's.
Cartels are created to exclude outside competition and fix prices within the cartel, to allow greater costs for the consumer and less services and so greater profits.

The problem is that outsiders will undercut them and the members of the cartel cheat on each other unless the government (which the members of the cartel are influencing as experts on the needs of the industry) oversees them with regulations, a central board, and all that bureaucracy.

That the social media will act as another member of the IC is just icing and encourages the feral government to accept the push from "concerned industry insiders" to set up regulatory boards

I googled 4dsply (the url of one of the ads) and was warned I had adware on my computer.

I spent two days using free cleaners to find the virus and came up with nothing.

Two days of worry is not worth this site. I will probably drop back in to see if it's still there, but I'm blocking this site for now.

This sucks. Not only do I have ad blockers, but Firefox is set to block this kind of ad specifically. Good job Ace!

So there I was, in my second season, last game of the season for the Championship, Home team. We started the bottom of the ninth behind in runs but the batters ahead of me got some hits and walks to tie it up. Their pitcher is tiring and throwing more balls than strikes.

My turn to bat and the score is tied, 2 outs, bases loaded. Every kid's fantasy, right?, to hit a walk-off grand slam.

So I go to the plate, kids from both teams are yelling their heads off, as are the parents. No pressure at all. I watch the pitches go by, as instructed, and the count gets to 3-2.

My Coach call TIME! and comes over to reinforce the No Swing instruction.

Last pitch for all the marbles, the whole season, is coming. I watch it go by for a called 4th Ball and trot off to first base. The kid from third base scores while pandemonium erupts.

That was the highlight of my athletic career.

I don't like or use debit cards. It's like carrying around your entire checking account balance in cash. With a credit card, you've got some recourse, and the issuer has an interest in minimizing losses. With a debit card, I believe you're pretty much on your own.

There are some liability limits on debit cards but it's more of a hassle than credit cards. I only use mine to get cash at ATMs, and have it set up to reject all other transaction types. Since ATMs require the PIN code it's pretty secure. I also limited the size of withdrawals allowed, and my banking app alerts me on each use.

Yeah, they no longer need those fees, as they are making all the vendors pay to process both Credit and Debit cards.

Fees add up in a hurry, when rates vary between .5% and 1.7% of the total transaction...
