Joe Rogan Gained Two Million Subscribers Since CNN and the Left Tried to Cancel Him

Womp womp wah wah waaaaah.

Joe Rogan is alive and CNN+ is dead.

The podcaster claims the media frenzy over anti-vax conspiracy theorist guests and his past use of the N-word has netted him two million additional subscribers.

In Friday's episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, the comic and UFC commentator was asked by his guest, British political commentator Douglas Murray, about the uproar.

"You have been put through the wringer since we last met," Murray says. "They did a number on you. Wow."

"It's interesting, my subscriptions went up massively -- that's what's crazy," Rogan replies. "During the height of it all, I gained two million subscribers ... Yeah, [the media] went for it. It's also fortunate that the people who went for it were CNN. They're so untrustworthy and people know how biased they are and socially weird their anchors are."

Tater fails again. Tater fails at everything.

Tater, you seriously need to find some other line of work. I don't know what that would be. You're literally bad at everything.

I would suggest something that does not involve being on camera or Using Words. Probably some line of work involving a bucket. Try googling the Slop Sector of the economy.

They also discussed the Potato that led the charge -- well, the slow, labored walk -- to cancel him.

"I have a rule that I try not to be mean about people's apperances," answered Murray, continuing, "but," which caused Rogan to break out into laughter.

Murray then mentioned how he would have guessed Stelter was "56 or something," and was told to "look it up" on his phone. Afterwards, he "couldn't stop laughing for the rest of the evening." Stelter, age 36, was born in 1985.

Age 36? Wow, I didn't realize he was so much older than we are.

He doesn't understand us or our generation. Maybe that's the problem.

Fake news! Deplatform him!

I hear a lot of people getting confused on this: They had 150,000 subscribers, but an average of 10,000 daily users. People keep saying 10,000 subscribers.

Not that 150,000 subscribers is much better. A lot of those "subscribers" would be free "subscriptions" given to AT&T/Warner/Discovery personnel.

10,000 daily combined, cumulative users. Holy bananas Foster.

Tater claimed, after the service (it's not a service, it's an imposition) was terminated, that it was "too early to tell if it's a failure."

When you have to shout above the noise the carpenters taking down your sets, I think you can tell it's a failure, Tater.

29 For those thinking this is just a stinky side job for CNN, from what I hear this was the move they HAD to make, because the network can't sustain its current business model.

They tried to modernize, this was the equivalent of the buggy whip industry using all gold nuts and bolts and side panels on their slow assed horseless carriage... and then tied old horses to the front of the damned thing.

393 Dan Crenshaw is absolutely right.

As long as the jealous, cheap fucks keep thinking they can hire top notch people that have a responsibility to spend TRILLIONS of dollars each year for the price of a mid-level manager, all they'll get are the bored millionaires and broke no-nothings that populate congress now. Reasonably successful small business owners and professionals (the type of people who we need in congress and the senate) make between $300,000 and $800,000 per year. Add in another $200,000 for the additional expense of a second home in D.C. and you come up with a million per year. Pay half as salary and the other half as a bonus for getting all the INDIVIDUAL spending bills done on time and in budget, with no more omnibus-throw-the-kitchen-sink-in-at-the-last-minute spending bills.

You get what you pay for in this life.

They still get great benefits (eye care If they want or think they can get rich or better themselves as Crenshaw whines, go back into public life. Crenshaw's words are the EXACT advertisement for term limits. If he cared so much he'd push that. Instead he's more worried about his graft. And I am sorry, if you can't squeak by on what he's making, tough. I am not going to add fuel to the flame wars from the last but I think Crenshaw is a major disappointment, I had high hopes for him. And it's expected that the report will by very bad.

Would be cool if Elon pulled his offer at the last second on Wednesday night, before the Board formally accepts, and Twatter stockholders wake up to an opening price of $29.01 or lower.

Hmmm.

Since roughly the 1990's, Congress critters no longer draft legislation--instead it is handled by interest groups, the executive branch, and political donors. All Congress does is sell the pig in the poke and to hide that fact--Congress more or less stuffs the legislation into a must pass omnibus bill. As far as investigations and oversight, Congress has repeatedly flubbed them because the people sitting on those committees by and large do it for position taking and not for truth telling.

Much as the UK Parliament has gradually ceded power to the Cabinet and now to the PM--the US Congress has gradually ceded its power to the leadership in both parties and the executive/bureaucracy/judicial branches. The form is there but the substance is gone.

295 I've never tweeted in my life but I don't understand the position of those that did and boycotted Twitter now say they won't go back after Musk buys them.

Well to expand on what I said above: I joined Twitter with the express purpose of selling books. It was part of a "build a platform" theory many suggested online; you mak friends, create a network, become popular as a person on line, and people buy your books.

As a secondary purpose, I hoped to promote my blog which I was still writing at the time.

It worked for neither. As ACE noted a few weeks ago, Twitter users don't want to go to read blogs, they want to read Twitter because its short and punchy and requires little thought. So even if they go to your blog post, they probably won't read it, and almost certainly will not be back.

As for selling books, again, Twitter readers have the attention span of a cracked-out monkey, and don't want to read books, either. They want to post about reading books, but not actually, you know, read one.

So it was an utter fail to be on Twitter to promote my work. It was the wrong place, and worse, it was a huge time sink I spent too much time on.

The public is not the private sector because one Congress cannot create binding rules for another. The whole one neat trick gimmick does not work if the entire family is at the trough in DC. Congress critters no longer have that many show spouses but instead they are in office themself in the bureaucracy, executive, etc. or in lobbying firms/media/research in the DC blob economy. It is not for nothing that DC dominates the wealthiest counties in the country lists where it used to be a backwater.

326 but my question is: to what end?

Theoretically you can then sell that or use it exclusively. Like, if you're Coca Cola and buy the "little girl grinning by burning house" meme picture, you can use it for your ads, but nobody else can.

But I have another, more sinister theory: EU law killed a lot of websites with its copyright and protection laws that did not allow anyone to use anyone's image or work without permission (although news organizations seem to have an exception).

This is locking down meme after meme as they are purchased. You can go to jail in Europe for using a meme that has been NFT'd as I understand it.

One year of Biden and Social Security loses a year. A little math involved, but three more years of him equals what year will it run out of money?

Posted by: More Good News
--------------------
Technically, Social Security does not 'run out' of money but because it is pay as you go, the SS taxes on the current worker force will be unable to pay full benefits for retired--not zero but some percentage lower. But, that is a static analysis that does not consider that effectively Social Security spending is not segregated but comes out of the general fund. Medicare though is in increasingly dire straits so the retired which must take Medicare to get Social Security benefits may not live that long without medical care to get to 2032. I think last time I looked, Medicare taxes should be about double or triple what they are to come close to balancing books or benefits have to be cut severely which affects quality of care obviously.

Hey, here's a thought (just spitballing here)...

When you can see something bad coming, wouldn't the smart thing to do be trying to stop it? When the process that we're using doesn't seem to be working, wouldn't it be prudent to try something else. If the incentives that you use to hire people get you idiots and crooks, couldn't changing the incentives help get you something better?

Looks like Macron won 58% to 41%, so it was a pretty hefty margin. Contra to what Ace wrote in the sidebar, I think that LePen did as well as it is possible for any semi-right leaning candidate to ever do in France. The hard core socialists (in reality communists) who had 21% in the first round combined with Macron's base of Euroweenies and EU supporters to give him that margin. There is no way anyone from the right will ever make a dent in those two groups.

Rogan is successful in part because he is NOT an ideologue and thus can shift his attention or critiques to current situations without that much baggage. That is the benefit of being an interviewer and entertainer. An intellectual or politician would have to admit all sorts of past errors in predictions which destroys their credibility in a flash--most intellectuals opt to double down to ride out the storm and that people will forget later. That is also why Stewart's Apple show is failing as he reveals the ideologue inside and he is locked into his positions as a result. Woke entertainers are a contradiction in terms.

431 Even this article, I think, kind of glosses over the use of the "n-word", which, in the context that he used it, every single time, it was in discussing the word, itself, and/or quoting people using it. He never used it flippantly, he never called anyone it, he was literally talking about the word, itself, and said it in that context.

His "sin" was saying the word in that context, instead of saying "n-word".

If you want to argue that he shouldn't have done that, then fine, I'm willing to entertain that. Personally, I would not say the word, ever, in any context, and can understand how ever saying the word in that context could still be "off-limits", but it's hardly a cancel-able offense. Literally the entire conversation should have started and ended with "hey, Joe, maybe just say 'n-word' instead of actually saying the word" and that's it. Full stop.

But not that long ago, saying it in the course of an academic discussion/discourse about the word, itself, wasn't verboten. I recall very clearly in 1996 in history class, we watched the movie "Roots" and during that discussion, in middle school, we all said the word. My teacher even said the word.

450 SO even this article, in my opinion, isn't being totally honest about it. Joe really didn't do anything blatantly wrong. The entire thing was simply a tempest in a teapot. It's a hit job. An attempt to silence. Desperation had people going back through Joe's entire back log looking for something, anything, that they could come up with, and they put together a completely dishonest montage of him dropping "n-bombs" when that was far from the truth of the matter.

As far as I'm aware, he never used the word outside of a "discussing the word, itself" context, and in that context, at least within living memory, and certainly for someone as old as Joe, and even during the timeframes that his podcast existed, that was perfectly acceptable.

To go back and apply today's rules to yesterday's speech is simply an attempt to railroad someone with unapproved opinions. It was deeply cynical and deeply self-serving.

The CNN+ movie "29 Days Later" would be way better than "28 Days Later." The people getting killed would deserve it more in "29 Days Later"

501 I am going to go out on a limb and suggest most of the Muslim imports don't vote.
Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at April 25, 2022 01:48 PM (KZzsI)

news item on Breitbart today - 85% of Muslim voters in France voted for Macron on Sunday. And while I can find no absolute numbers, apparently a lot of them *did* vote.

Posted by: Tom Servo at April 25, 2022 01:53 PM (trdmm)

502 I think French boomers were like 70% Macron.

They remember LePen's daddy and associate her with that, even if its not valid. I have a buddy who lives in Manchester and hes convinced she's a huge fascist racist monster who hides it well, but was unable to give any examples of how she is.

I dunno, maybe she is, but I'm of the opinion that Macron is worse for the country than even someone like that would be.

503 KarlynB evidently doesn't understand rights and consequences are two different things.

Free speech is an innate right, and, as such, cannot be taken away. Using that right, however, can be punished.

Disney was punished for exercising their right.

i'd also like KarlynB to also tell us how using the "n" word is protected speech, and, therefore, shouldn't be punished. I'll wait.
Posted by: blake - semi lurker in marginal standing

Grooming isn't speech. They are actions, some of which are speech, to sexualize a child for sex.
I'd like to ask her how in the hell does grooming a child for sex doesn't violate their NAP. I'll wait for that as well.
She has been in a manic phase for at least 16 hours calling everybody who disagrees with her a statist. So if you are against grooming children for sex and want laws in place and punishments for those doing it, then you are a statist.

There was a graphic saying that going around Twitter. Also, the pre-election polling all but guarantees the election was "fortified", like Kaboom was.

506 I have a Medicare 'Advantage' plan and they're willing to pay vastly superior benefits than Medicare for the same dollars. Something doesn't compute, or perhaps the 'Advantage' plan receives some multiple of my 'contribution' alone. I don't know. My 'contribution' is about two hundred a month. Posted by: Divide by Zero
----------------------------
Medicare Advantage relies on controlled care networks and did have (not sure about current) greater benefits to individuals including vision/dental/etc in return for restricting providers. At least initially, providers and their network got paid a bit more. Obama whacked that payment somewhat to pay for his Obamacare and Democrats in Congress do not like the program but their constituents do. From what I've gleaned (without serious study of it), Medicare Advantage works well in some states but not so good in others.

509 Arguably, removing a privilege is also punishment.

Taking the car keys away from the kids, for example.
Posted by: blake - semi lurker in marginal standing (5pTK/) at April 25, 2022 01:52 PM

Agree, but in this case with government there was no date in perpetuity on the agreement to let Pedo Rat govern itself. So were they punished? In a sense but FL is legally able to end said privilege. I am sure the Pedo's lawyers will fight it and hopefully lose. I expect it to go the SCOTUS.

510 Also, the pre-election polling all but guarantees the election was "fortified", like Kaboom was.

Meh, polling. I think the massive protests, riots, and continual unrest against Macron says a lot more about people's mood toward the guy than polling. Polling you can manipulate.

511 Yeah. Like I noted in the last thread, legal experts are expecting the bill to be thrown out in court because of a 96 court decision that disallows governments to punish companies out of spite.

I dunno if they are right, but that's the word out there right now.

---------------

I think challenging the change in Disney status won't get very far, because FL can easily point to other businesses that didn't enjoy the same privilege.

512 Arguably, removing a privilege is also punishment.

Thomas Sowell has a great quote about this:

"When people get used to preferential treatment, equal treatment seems like discrimination.”

CRT, most legal commentators are failed lawyers. Look up Eugene Volokh for at least one law professor who doubts that Disney has an actionable case.

I bet that you did not hear any of the commentators talk about the liberty interest analysis which is what applies here. Under the 14th Due process, no one can be subject to loss of liberty (and property/life) without due process of law. So, using a liberty interest, one has to analyze the liberty interest (free speech in this case) and whether the punishment by the state legislature is a stigma (punishment by loss of a benefit that everyone else can obtain). See Constineau v. Wisconsin for an example of how it works. In the case at present, Disney has one year to reapply for a std improvement districts, just not with the special powers that Reedy gave unique to Disney.

Good warning to others. I'm in the SE corner of PA and my provider has been building a network for at least half a century that I know of. Five star rating from subscribers. I simply can not believe the benefits available. But buyer beware, and do your homework.

Posted by: Divide by Zero at April 25, 2022 02:02 PM (dQvv7)

515 You also gotta love how the Hollywood "Reporter" frames the Joe Rogan podcast numbers as due to subscribers flocking to "use of the N word" and putting on "anti vax conspiracy theorists" as though it was a race to the bottom.

The "N word" controversy was of course a complete attempted hit job by pulling some lines from an old podcast.

And the "conspiracy theorist" that got the Davos-Gates-Fauci World Control people in a tizzy was a several hour podcast with that notorious nutjob Robert Malone who was one of the pioneers of mRNA vaccines, and who basically aligns with the Great Barrington Declaration authors led by well-published, full-Professors from Standford and Oxford.

He does get into the psychedelics and is not above putting on wacky guests for entertainment, but on relatively serious topics JR is clearly more information-driven and intellectually curious than pretty much every legacy media broadcast.

And IMO he's a great example to young men that you don't have to be a complete physical pussy to speak intelligently, and not to be ashamed of being a high-achieving dude.
