Make Fetch Happen Cafe

pleasantwalk.jpg
Lake Lugano, Switzerland

Ninja puppy.

Sigrid the cat makes all kinds of threats to dogs when he's in the safety of his master's bike pannier.

More evidence that pandas can't survive in the wild and must have always been a zoo-only species.

More evidence of the Panda Hoax.

The Perfect Crime.

"Hey let's go bully that other dog... ah, maybe not, maybe not."

Cat makes an amazing acrobatic goalie stop and the two people behind him don't even notice.

Dog just wanted to help.

Going to school.

Bath time.

Just a nice relaxing dog clip.

A not-so-relaxing clip of men napping at work.

Dad put together a cheap Automatic Fetch machine and got an hour off of watching his kid to boot:

Boy plays fetch with the neighbor's dog -- who drops the ball over the fence.

I'd like to be walking along that promenade in a cream-colored linen suit, smoking a Partagas Lusitania and knowing a lovely, lonely Austrian archduchess is waiting at the Michelin 5-star restaurant for me to join her in a plate of oysters and a jeroboam of Veuve Cliquot '71.

27 MPPPP, that's a nice dream, apart from the oysters (personal taste). Had a friend who spent time in Brazil and came very close to having a white linen suit made, so he could imitate the style of the glory years in Rio or Salvador. I've got a nehru-collar linen shirt I got in Vietnam that's nice, and a linen suit (not white or close) I actually used in DC, but without miserable heat/humidity there's not much call for such things.

A jeroboam is the equivalent of 4 bottles. A melchizedek contains 40 bottles or 240 glasses full.

But I know men are required to have (at home) and know how to use their standard rifle, they have excellent indoor ranges with cafes and bars attached, and an civilian outdoor range that shoots *over* a public highway. That plus all the tunnels and underground military infrastructure and fighter pilots who specialize in operating around mountains.

Good enough for me.

157 I know this is the happy thread but is it maybe time to revisit "Who Goes Nazi" from 1941? I just came across it in my archive and read it once again. First time since Ace introduced it I'm sure more than a decade ago. It's required reading but for those who just want the Cliff's Notes:

"It’s fun - a macabre sort of fun - this parlor game of "Who Goes Nazi?" And it simplifies things - asking the question in regard to specific personalities.

Kind, good, happy, gentlemanly, secure people never go Nazi. They may be the gentle philosopher whose name is in the Blue Book, or Bill from City College to whom democracy gave a chance to design airplanes - you'll never make Nazis out of them. But the frustrated and humiliated intellectual, the rich and scared speculator, the spoiled son, the labor tyrant, the fellow who has achieved success by smelling out the wind of success - they would all go Nazi in a crisis."

They seem to go for money. Lots and lots of money.

My customer took me there for a day trip and we did a thing they call the Golden Circle, knock it off perverts. You take a boat around the lake to the base of Mt Pilatus, then what they claim is the steepest cog railway train to the top of the mountain and then a gondola back to town.

The town itself is very upscale chic with beautiful people from all over Europe. Not really my cup of tea but the scenery was spectacular.

Forget takeaway, it has long been my observation. In the beforefore times I had to convince two very intelligent and "in tune" people what spineless shits the vast majority of people unfortunately are. They really didn't believe me when I told them only about 3% of humanity (in this country at least) - roughly 1 in 30 - has a spine and anything resembling an independent mind.

They each separately thought it was in the realm of 20 or 25%. Not on this planet, baby. No need for any scamdemic, just observe how people behave in groups.

To be fair, I am not saying anything about the checkmark (to me it reeks a bit too much of nomenklatura bs.) I get the point if you regard it as a utility, then you want people to be able to reduce the number of bots and so forth. On the other hand, I think of the value of anonymity used by the founders, for example.

261 ShainS, you lived in a van and showered at 24 Hour Fitness near Del Mar? Classic. Actually closest branch to there that I can think of is either La Jolla or a small one that's now another brand up in Encinitas. We like the beach at Del Mar (on weekdays), small and mellow and comfy, when you can find parking (though I have a childhood friend who made big $$$ and lives right on the beach, and thru him/his neighbors we now have parking workarounds).

------

Yeah, used the one in La Jolla and worked at Peregrine Software as a Consultant (actually spent most of my time flying all over the country installing & customizing their software for various clients).

They were owned by John Moores (owner of the Padres), and we'd occasionally get rewarded with free tickets to one of the box seat sections at home games. After I'd left, they were involved in a big scandal (busted by the SEC) where they cooked the books by accounting as revenues goods that they received as trades of their products for their customers' products.

268 I have two small world stories that are pretty impressive but I'll relate the lesser of the two. At my sister's wedding, best man's younger sister (about my age), whom I'd never met before, was certain she'd met me or seen me somewhere, or something. This went on the whole reception. She had no ulterior motive (turns out she plays for the other team, I found out much later).

Answer: she'd just helped a friend move back east, where I was living at the time. She *had* seen me - her friend was moving in to share a house with my then gf, and this woman had seen my photo on my gf's dresser. We had no other points of intersection (we exhaustively explored all the possibilities).

The other small world story is magnitudes greater and involves much greater distances and other issues.

I like that saying. Sundays in Uganda we often drove 50 miles to a hotel on Elgon (mountain) just to have tea and look at the lovely scenery and after a couple of hours we would drive back. No big deal. I've done similar here in the USA, driven 45-50 miles to a Hen House for a great simple meal and great pies for dessert, as an example. I didn't remember much about her in HS, just that she was a smoking hot gal. Not sure we spoke much to each other as teens. As an adult though, she was very nice. Also, gorgeous. Also, engaged. Heard she did marry the guy and has a kid or two now. Lives in Southern MD somewhere.

There is a younger couple who live behind me we chatted a few times while we were in our yards but they always seemed a bit nervous. It turns out they thought I was a hitman doing jobs around the world.

I probably should have told them to keep quiet follow my instructions and nothing would happen, I could have gotten them to do my yard work forever.

It is. I knew I felt different but up until now, I didn't know why.

406 So is there anyone you're not related to? You Alabamans seem to get around.

Heh. My Father knew lots of politicians in SC. Mostly all dead now, as is Margaret Thatcher for that matter.

Some nice beaches around Lake Lucerne. No ocean of course but plenty of mountains. And lots of very expensive women.

So, like Monte Carlo.

Yes but no F1 Grand Prix, no royalty, and too many unaffordable and unreachable grande dammes.

We are all cousins here.

Most of you are not removed far enough from me for my taste. /jk

I think I have this figured out. Does your last name begin with a T and end with "hurmond?"

410 400 At one time I was 3 degrees removed from Margaret Thatcher.

My wife's genealogical line (supposedly, I think much of it is guesswork once you go back so many generations) is descended from Rollo (Viking conqueror of Normandy), brother of Ragnar (see the great Vikings TV series).

I can vouch for the fact that she is, indeed, a shield maiden!

Come to the TxMoMe and we'll have a beer and talk about Piggie Park.

I was looking at the origin of my father's paternal grandmother a couple of weeks back. Her family came from Vardo, a smallish town in the state of Finnmark, Norway. Talk about a place out in the tag end of nowhere, waaaay up at the northeast end of Norway. You can wave to Russkie subs coming out of the bases around Murmansk if you were so inclined.

No wonder they came west to these United States.

I would really enjoy that. Mrs928 and I lived on the Batesburg-Leesville side of Lake Murray when we were first married. About 1982-1988.

414 Has anyone else gotten the distinct idea that God is taking an active part in affairs the last few weeks?

There are two major reasons I have, first being the speed that Disney's special status got removed -- through both houses of the Florida legislature in two days, and signed by the governor on the third? I have *never* heard of a legislature moving that fast before.

Second, the speed of Musk's acquisition of Twitter -- also astonishingly and unheard-of-ly fast. Sounds to me like two major miracles back-to-back.
