Frog tongues off much more than he can chew.

This isn't a cute one. It's more interesting, or scary. The downside of having a 15 foot boa constrictor as a pet is that it's a 15 foot boa constrictor and it's not a pet, it's a predator. And that tank is way too small for it so you get what you give.

Freezing rain coated the streets and sidewalk with an inch of slippery ice. People can literally not even stand. It's like a nightmare.

At what point do you give up trying to stand and simply try to "swim" across the ice on your belly?

I think a commenter here told me (or us) that when it's icy, you shouldn't walk the way you usually do, but with very up-and-down steps, not the usual rolling heel-to-toe steps. Like Frankenstein steps, almost stomps, I think the idea is. I tried that this past winter. I don't know if it worked or not because the ice wasn't that bad. So if you try that, I've given you a disclaimer, and you can't sue me.

Well now I don't know what to think. I guess you could combine the two.

44 That rollerblading is crazy dangerous. Remember the instant you fall, it's like you've just fallen off a car or truck, at that speed. Helmet will help, elbow pads and wrist guards may help, but likely you'll be seriously injured. And looks like at least half those people are novice skaters.

It's a great off-ice skating workout, but few locations are good and safe. Need to be mostly flat, with excellent surface (old cracking asphalt that's meaningless for bikes, cars, walkers, and runners will bring down a proficient skater not paying close attention).

Only one place left I find acceptable, and it's getting worse (road deteriorating, as is common around here now in the era of public budgets featuring vast oceans of $$$$).

Our lizards are brown and green, and both can change colors, so a light brown anole could be either brown or green. 64 Careful shuffle definitely the way to walk on ice. Slow. Kind of intuitive - any other way *feels* treacherous, and is. Ice storms are insane dangerous - and beautiful. Had to walk home after one in DC once, after a movie. Took about an hour. Didn't fall.

Ace, you need to get out more if you've lived in NYC for decades and have not yet learned how to walk on icy sidewalks and streets. :-)

Got my brand new 501s on and grabbed a piece of cardboard and threw myself face first down that slope for a couple of hours and it was the most fun ever, sledding without a sled. Ruined my brand new jeans as all the color wore off on the iced grass and Mom was PISSED!

As a demented kid, I used to keep snakes. I preferred king snakes, gopher snakes were kind of mean, garters dull. Of course it was live feeding. Go get the cutest mouse I could at the pet store for $.79, put it in the terrarium and give it a last meal (usually a corn nut). Once the snake decides it's food, it's over in a fraction of a second. Amazing how fast those things can move, but that's how nature designed the constrictors. Venomous snakes get to take their time.

In MN, too. They're rubber mesh things that you strap on to your shoes or boots, with tiny steel or carbide cleats in them, like pencil-lead sized, that dig into the ice. I've never fallen wearing them, and there's a lot of snow to move every year, here.

They're actually marketed towards joggers and runners, which I think is goofy. Running in below-freezing air can't be good for the lungs, even if you're not making faceprints in the ice.

179 I walked out on thick frozen ice over snow once here, over a decade ago. I stepped off the porch and jumped on it, assuming my feet would break through the foot of snow.

They did not, but slipped out from under me, my head hit really hard with the cantilever action. I still think I may have knocked myself out briefly ... I had a pretty thick beanie on, might have saved me ... but it could have been an "and that is how he died" situation. Fall hard, wake up dead and frozen.

Pretty sure I have something like that. Not quite as bad in my case (I take long brisk walks at lunchtime), but I am still not where I was before. I do know I lost almost 20 pounds when I was sick in January. That alone takes a toll, when the weight loss is due to illness.

We got one in 2020 from Amazon, and it was about $16-17. I had pneumonia from Covid and my blood-oxygen levels were in the low 80's. I went to the hospital for a few days, and once I started getting oxygen, I felt A LOT better.

A lot of civilians left, some went to Russia. But Russia invaded, so to me ... "well we gave the civilians the chance to go to The Camps" is exactly a free pass to Putin to bomb/shell the totality of the civilians areas, so they have no place to return to.

There are other bad reports of "atrocities" ... but the real atrocities are domestic terrorism by the FBI and DoJ and the whole of the DeepState. Since we are the last chance for liberty, the domestic criminal cabal are the war criminals. (and DeepState/globalists seem to be the ones behind the Zelinsky/NATO kabuki, now with more death and destruction for the masses)

263 Actually, if you live in that type of frozen environment (thinking FAR north, like Moscow, etc.) they sell "spiked: shoes, or "spiked attachments" to the bottom of shoes that prevent this! Similar to "Snow Tires" that you far Northenenrs use! As for me, I will be happy down here in my VERY rarely frozen deep south Texas!

264 44 That rollerblading is crazy dangerous. Remember the instant you fall, it's like you've just fallen off a car or truck, at that speed. Helmet will help, elbow pads and wrist guards may help, but likely you'll be seriously injured. And looks like at least half those people are novice skaters.

I still use my old four-wheeled skates every so often. Even at my age (40mumblemumble) there's nothing I enjoy more than going out for a few laps at my local roller rink. I don't like the thin blades on ice skates or rollerblades.
