Mitch McConnell Donates to Liz Cheney as Liz Cheney Courts Democrats For Her Primary Bid

Conservatism will be weak and deformed until this corrupt, China-loving, corporate-dick-sucking turtle-ugly Dixiecrat is gone.

The ringleader of the establishment Republicans, Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY), announced on Thursday a donation to Democrat ally Rep. Liz Cheney's (R-WY) reelection campaign.

Cheney, who is no longer recognized as a Republican by the Wyoming GOP, has received a campaign contribution from the Senate GOP leader, McConnell told Axios. When asked if he will hold a fundraiser or other campaign event with Cheney, McConnell redirected the conversation back to his lane of Senate business.

McConnell and Cheney apparently believe the Wyoming member may lose her seat to Trump-endorsed Harriet Hageman, a strong threat to the establishment Republican order in Washington, DC. With Hageman catching momentum heading into the August 16 GOP primary, former President George Bush has also donated the legal maximum amount to Cheney. McConnell and Bush are joined in their support of Cheney by failed presidential candidate Mitt Romney (R-UT). In March, Romney delivered a speech at a closed fundraiser for the embattled Cheney.

The Wyoming race has become a proxy war between the establishment and conservative Republicans.

And, as usual: the Establishment Republicans are partering up with the liberal Democrats to deny conservative Republicans a win.

Politico:

Liz Cheney turns to Democrats to save her hide

The math doesn't lie -- and neither do Cheney’s actions on the ground in recent months.

In 2007, in this blue bastion of one of the reddest states in the country, liberal activists wheeled a giant statue of Dick Cheney through town to protest his star role in the Iraq War -- before toppling it, Saddam Hussein style, for good measure.

Fifteen years later, his daughter Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) is turning to the same rare species in Wyoming -- Democrats -- to save her House seat. And Trumpist Republicans are doing everything in their power to thwart her.

...

Though there's been scant public polling of her primary campaign against Trump-backed Harriet Hageman, it's apparent that Republicans in Wyoming -- which voted for Trump over Joe Biden, 70 to 27 percent, in 2020 -- have turned against Cheney en masse since Jan. 6, 2021.

Just as obvious is that Cheney needs Democrats and independents to change their party registration and cast their vote for her in the Aug. 16 primary. Her campaign is loath to talk strategy publicly, but the math doesn't lie -- and neither do Cheney's actions on the ground here in recent months.

She has shunned town halls and other voter forums in Wyoming's overwhelmingly red counties in favor of controlled events. At the March 22 event, which is being hosted by Issue One, a bipartisan organization that advocates for "sweeping reforms to fix our broken political system," Cheney will answer pre-selected questions.

...

"She's not in the state, she has not been anywhere, maybe one or two places," Donovan echoed. "She doesn't show up ... she's very entitled. Her parents have events at their house, I've spent money to go to her house to fund her. ... I truly will never vote for her again." Donovan and Bextel are both members of Hageman's grassroots leadership team.

Martin went further, calling Cheney's work on the Jan. 6 committee "duplicity."

"She's been MIA since Jan. 6. And what we all truly believe is that the Wyoming seat is a stepping stone to running for president in 2024 and she needs to get Trump out of the way. And to raise money, she's using the anti-Trump commentary," Martin speculated.

...

Cheney declined to be interviewed for this story. But she told The New York Times last month that she will not openly court Democrats by supporting a "Democrats for Cheney" group or encourage an existing political action committee, dubbed "Switch for Wyoming," that encourages Democrats to vote in Republican primaries.

Not openly. No, not openly.

But she'll continue campaigning in Democrat counties, pitching a Democrat-friendly, MSNBC-approved "The GOP has been taken over by dangerous racist crazies" message.

Without an aggressive campaign strategy to win over Democrats, it might seem like a tough sell: Cheney, after all, voted with Trump 93 percent of the time, according to FiveThirtyEight. But some Democratic voters in Jackson are embracing her. They appreciate Cheney's work in Congress prosecuting Trump and they're ready to switch parties to vote for her.

Even if they're not ready to admit it publicly.

She won't admit she's courting Democrats "openly," and Democrats won't admit they're switching parties, just for primary voting day, to vote for her -- "publicly."

Everyone's keeping the secret and yet the secret is out: Cheney is asking Democrats to vote for her to beat the actual conservative Republican, and Democrats are responding to her call.

And Mitch McConnell is donating to her.

This all reminds me of when Richard Mourdock beat Dick Lugar in a primary... and the establishment "Republican" Dick Lugar responded by endorsing the Democrat and campaigning for him.

The Establishment GOP is just the Democrat Establishment for the Rich. Or, rather: for a different sector of the rich.

7 New data shows 42 percent of Americans want Donald Trump back in office in 2024. The number is 40 percent (14 points) higher than those who want Biden back (28 percent). Another 27 percent told Rasmussen Reports they would prefer "somebody else" other than the 2020 competitors.

The Tea Party got corrupted before it got to Washington. The true believers got sidelined by leadership into the Freedom Caucus where they did nothing of significance because leadership would refuse to help them with re-election.

It's not really the same thing now. The Tea Party was an amorphous idea that sort of centered on federal spending but never seemed to agree on much more than cutting foreign aid (drops in the ocean of debt). Now, at least there's Trump as a centralizing figure. The ideology is still kind of messy, but he's the unifying force against the GOPe.

I do expect more changes in the near future for the GOP, starting in 2022. However, the removal of Mitch from leadership is most likely not going to happen. Maybe he'll step down for 2024, hoping to replace himself with Thune. That's when any real changes can come to the Senate, no earlier.

49 This should surprise no one.

McConnell and the GOPe fought Trump on funding the border wall and Ryan (another GOPe clown) helped the Democrats take the House back in the midterms with the retirements of 50+ GOPe incumbents in contested seats.

McConnell allowed Dems to flood swing state with mail in ballots, then when Trump was able to still beat the "fortified" fraud, McConnell allowed Dems to stop counting on election night and take weeks to "count" ballots. Then, McConnel demonized anyone who dared to say this wasn't the normal way to conduct elections as a crazed conspiracy theorist.

McConnell also tanked the GA run-offs by refusing to fund the stimulus, but had absolutely no problem funding Biden's b.s. $1.5 Trillion "infrastructure" bill and sending Ukraine $15 billion.

Trump literally had everyone in DC against him. It's a miracle he was able to accomplish all that he did.

Thus when the left claims that "grooming" is the self-same act as molestation, they are AGAIN corroding words for their ends.

Mitch needs bots. If Cheney wins, she owes him. She will vote however Mitch tells her to whenever it matters.

175 As a former (and perhaps future) resident of Wyoming I'm sending my first political donation of the 2022 midterm season to Harriet Hageman. Liz Cheney is intolerable and the people of Wyoming don't want to her. She was quiet at first but then she showed her true colors and boy howdy did she. They are going to try to steal a seat from little Wyoming. Sounds like Daddys calling in his favors.
