Despite Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson's troubling record of leniency for child sex offenders and her inability to define what a woman is, the Senate voted to confirm her to the Supreme Court on Thursday. Jackson's narrow confirmation of 53-47 was supported by Republican Sens. Susan Collins of Maine, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, and Mitt Romney of Utah, who were not swayed by her troubling record or her support of critical race theory.The three staunch left-liberals obviously have a Suicide Pact, and I don't mean a literal one, or even a political one. (Though we may have hopes on the latter.) I mean a Suicide Pact that executives or actors might agree to -- if either of us gets fired, the other one quits. It's a way of creating (it is hoped) leverage. A kind of micro-union. In this case, they've plainly agreed to always vote together, so that none of them are completely isolated on their pro-abortion and pro-CP votes, or their unflagging support of the Democrat Party.

Well, it seems like Murkowski isn't going to be able to sneak a win in this time (finger's crossed), and I doubt that Romney runs again at all. He'll be the next Jeff Flake.
That will leave Collins alone to take all the flack while there are more Republicans in the Senate overall after 2022. It's gonna be harder to Mitch to let shit through the Senate and blame it on his terrible three sisters.

De Santis may be allowed to, in a limited way, do what he can in Florida, but that may be the limit.
As a President, there is too much money at stake to allow it to fall into the hands of someone like, say, Donald Trump. And looking at Donald, they moved much of the permanent government (ie, the Deep State) against him to get rid of him.

I've been saying something similar for a while. If the GOPe really wanted to be rid of Trump, they'd take up at least part of his agenda and claim it as their own. Hell, they'd take up ANY agenda.
Instead, they're going into the midterms with nothing on purpose. They think it'll just mean that they'll have a mandate to do whatever they want with the implicit approval of the voters, but all it will actually do, since nothing of particular importance will pass in the next Congress, is create a political vacuum. A vacuum that anyone with a big enough megaphone and following will be able to fill. Someone like Donald Trump.
The media is going to make much of the challengers to Trump in the GOP primary, but it'll be obvious by New Hampshire that no one is going to come close to him. By South Carolina, it'll be over. The Democratic Primary will go on much longer.

I would say Trump owns it now. A guy like DeSantis isn't BAD, in any sense of the word, he just has the misfortune to be compared to a peerless leader. What's he even going to say? Drain the swamp? Moar judges? We've seen why that didn't work, and it's not because of insufficient work ethic.
But it's not the worst thing that could happen. A decent man wouldn't have a problem with a truly great leader outshining him, and would concentrate on the many lesser positions he could shine in. Who cares what an indecent man thinks?

Manchin was the Democrat Leadership's scapegoat because more than him knew they would lose more assuredly in 2022 if they voted for it. Using him made him MORE popular in WV, a deep red state, as opposed to someone like Kelly in a nominally purple state.
And yeah...Mitch got all of his nominees under Trump through, even Kavanaugh. He controls them. He gives them enough "freedom" to decide which ones will vote against and for as long as he gets what he wants, hence the meeting between Murkowski, Romney, Collins, and Manchin about which would vote for Kavanaugh and which would vote against him to get him the majority and onto SCOTUS.

Without a quorum in the committee, there's no vote in the committee. To get the nomination to the floor in that instance, it takes 60 votes. It's an obscure rule that's become important because all of the committees are evenly split this Congress, part of the agreement between Mitch and Schumer that gave Schumer the majority leadership. It's only really possible now because in every other Congress the majority has a majority on committees. They used it to defeat at least one executive nominee.
They did not use it to defeat KBJ.

In fairness, KBJ probably wasn't worth pulling this trigger on.
Schumer made a colossal tactical error by filibustering Gorsuch -- his obstructionism gave McConnell the ammo he needed to get his caucus to nuke the filibuster.
And it was done over a justice pick that didn't change the ideological balance of the Court.
If Schumer had the filibuster when Kavanaugh was up, Kav wouldn't have been seated.
KBJ is replacing Breyer. Any other justice that Biden nominates will be just as bad.

I just keep hearing about these parliamentary tricks that we supposedly could use, but no one else ever has in history and I'm deeply skeptical.
If there was one time that the Dems could have done something for "Saint RBG" with some Senate trick, they would have done it to have denied Trump.
If there was some parliamentary trick, Dems would have the majority to change it and seat her.
The reality is, Biden and the Democrats that control the Senate are responsible for this.
On a different note, we do need a new Senate Leader as McConnell only cares about McConnell. But I don't blame a Dem WH and a Dem Senate getting a Dem SC pick.

Doesn't mean that it's not worth fighting tooth and nail. This is a unique situation based on a makeup of Congress that won't repeat for a long time. This isn't some huge precedent setting change.
This is politics as bloodsport in an election year where you're all but guaranteed the majority next year. Mitch only plays bloodsport against Republicans that threaten his power.
