Elon Musk Now on Twitter's Board of Directors;
Twitter's Muzzling of the Babylon Bee Might Have Been the Last Censorship Straw for Musk

Seth Dillon of the Babylon Bee reports that Musk contacted him shortly after Twitter locked the Bee's accounts, and the accounts of its editors, to verify that Twitter had really taken this action.

He "mused on that call that he might need to buy Twitter."

And then he bought 9.2% of it.

Seth Dillon
@SethDillon

Musk reached out to us before he polled his followers about Twitter's commitment to free speech. He wanted to confirm that we had, in fact, been suspended. He even mused on that call that he might need to buy Twitter. Now he's the largest shareholder and has a seat on the board.

Twitter's foreign CEO Parag Agawal "welcomed" Musk to the board.

Yeah, I'm sure it was a really warm welcome.

Screenshot (1940).png

Parag Agrawal
@paraga

I'm excited to share that we’re appointing @elonmusk to our board! Through conversations with Elon in recent weeks, it became clear to us that he would bring great value to our Board.

He's both a passionate believer and intense critic of the service which is exactly what we need on @Twitter, and in the boardroom, to make us stronger in the long-term. Welcome Elon!

We decided to appoint him to the board just because he's an "intense critic" and we felt like we needed some diversity on the board.

Oh, and also, he's now the largest stakeholder in the company. That might have also been a factor.

The neoliberals are suddenly changing their position on whether mega-corporations and hyper-oligarchs should have complete control over what Americans are allowed to say and hear:

robertreichelonmuskdefiantls.jpg

I can't wait to see NeverTrump and Conservative, Inc. start questioning whether hyper-oligarchs who do not donate to them should control the American political discourse.

As Tucker Carlson has been hammering, Agrawal is a foreigner who came to this country as an adult and has no appreciation for the American love of free speech.

He is loudly hostile to it, in fact. Jack Dorsey, the previous CEO, was hostile to free speech too, but he at least pretended to care about the First Amendment.

In fact, he just expressed regret for his role in the corporatization of speech:

Screenshot (1943).png

Agrawal proudly announces that Twitter will be moving away from any consideration of the First Amendment.

The important thing, he says, is not who can speak.

It's "easy" to speak on the internet, he says.

Twitter's mission will be determining "who can be heard."

He really said that. He won't stop you from speaking -- he'll just stop you from being heard. That's all.

And David "Blessing of Liberty" French cheers.

Obviously, this anti-American foreign invader and subversive needs to be fired post-haste.

One good point I saw made on Twitter: I don't know what Musk will be allowed to do as a board member.

But... will he be allowed to see "The Algorithm" that all the Tech Monopolists have marched into Congress and testified was politically neutral and therefore any shadow-banning or throttling of speech was just dictated by some machine coding without human intervention?

Because if he is allowed to see that: Hooboy.

And I can't wait until he's invited to testify about it in front of a Republican-controlled Congress.

An awful lot of criminal lies have been told under oath* about this Algorithm.

I think that tech CEOs will be more circumspect about what they tell Congress, knowing that Musk can blow the whistle on them.

And yes, I believe "The Algorithm's" basic features are widely shared between these Monopolists -- they have the same people working for them, who migrate from company to company, and they act as a Cartel with shared interests.

SOON:

* Or maybe not technically "under oath" -- but lying to Congress is a crime whether you're formally put under oath or not.

Out of the non-techies I've know though they are mostly insane leftwingers. In one blue town I lived in there was one black family. A couple of the Indian moms got together to form an "anti-racism" group nominally on the black family's behalf...where they constantly harangued everyone who wasn't Indian...including the east Asians...for being RAYCISS

116 If we had a real government, Big Tech would have been broken up by now, possibly a few times. The firms have their own monopolies (Facebook in social networking, Twitter in microblogging, Google in search, advertising and video, etc.) or operate as intra-industry cartels (Google, Amazon, Microsoft in cloud hosting, PayPal and Stripe in payments, etc.). But beyond this - which is already against the rules - they also act as a meta-cartel at the top level when it comes to violating their customers. Alex Jones is the prime example - he was cancelled by everyone simultaneously. This was a cartel activity that damaged the consumer. Gab is another prime example, where they couldn't do business with any other major company. That was obvious collusion in restraint of trade.

Break them all up. For the conglomerates like Alphabet and Meta, break them up along line of business and then break up *those* units into multiple pieces. For the single-threaded monopolies, just break them up.

In South Africa for a while I taught at a mainly Indian Univ. and we had a prof, I don't remember the department but probably Arts, who was a Brahmin. He demanded his own personal toilet as befitting his status. He didn't get it. I don't know if he lowered himself (pun) to sit on a communal porcelain throne or whether he clenched his fartclam and went at home.

I am. Just before Musk announced his investment in Twitter stock it was trading at around $38. It was trading at $52 this morning. Just the thought of freedom of speech on Twitter was enough to move the stock that much.

Trump was by far the biggest draw on twitter. He's tweets moved the news. It was his one way of getting his message out without censorship from the media and he was very effective at using it. And think of the psychological boost it would give conservatives. We might have an entire day without complaining.

Besides, if they let Trump back then it becomes much harder to censor other conservatives who are saying the same thing. There are still quite a few conservatives on twitter, they are the ones doing really reporting on the China virus and Spygate. They've just been quieter lately because their audience has diminished.

From what little I understand about AI that is basically correct. No one really knows or understands how the machine learned what it has learned or how it came up with the answer that it did. For these algorithms you are beyond programming a machine to do a specific task with a fixed set of rules where you do have the ability to know how it got the result it did. We're now at the point where the machines are programmed to learn and interpret. Our only hope is to make sure the power plugs are always in our control.

most of the "subsidies" you are talking about either went directly to the buyers of Teslas, who could have bought a GM Volt, but didn't because they were shitboxes or were contracts for launching shit the government wanted launched and doing it cheaper than anyone else. he actually made his billions by building up the value of Tesla and SpaceX.

263 I just got my 6th account suspended by Twitter -- my first account took me from 2008 all the way to the banning of Alex Jones in 2018. Not that I'm a Jones fan, per se, but I (rightly) pointed out that idiots like Ben Shapiro and the other NeverTrump ilk on there who were FINE with Jones being banned were going to be next. That is literally the gist of the tweet that got me permanently suspended.

My 2nd account (which was already in existence as an alternative/emergency back up account but which I started using after that) lasted until the "Great Twitter Purge" following Trump's ban in 2021. I don't know exactly what I tweeted, but I'm sure it was about the election, J6 and/or Trump's ban.

Since that time (since Parag took over) 4 more accounts have gotten suspended based on violations of Twitter's "ban evasion" rule. It always happens right when I get to around 1000 followers.

Good luck to Elon changing a guy like Parag who literally believes in the caste system (with himself being in the highest caste, of course).

289 > Probably, but a whole lot of The Algorithm is probably fake. It does its job and does it well - especially at Google - but much of it is probably a Mechanical Turk, with human operators making decisions and banning their asses off (or refusing to ban, even if the algorithm would have).

Honestly, it could be an algorithm based on past deletions and bannings with some social credit score thrown in for good measure.

A super simple method would be to have a collection of human banned tweets, run some statistical analysis on word pairs, then find "significant" pairings for tweets that banned tweets have but not allowed tweets. It could be "love Trump" would give you a high score and "with her" could give you a low score. Throw in some fudge factors like checkmarked people never get flagged by the AI and people with consistently high scores get throttled and randomly lose followers who also score high regularly.

It's an AI that is clearly trained on human biases, but you can claim you don't really know how it's going to score any given tweet because it's all bayesian statistical analysis and it depends on what you write.

290 We have every reason for optimism, as Christians. God wins. This is all part of his plan, working out something even greater than we can imagine. Its just a matter of time. Meanwhile, its getting easier and easier in this culture to stand apart and be different as a Christian, to live out the gospel in truth and love to those around you. In a world where cancel culture rules and cultural shifts so fast nobody can keep up but everyone ends up the bad guy, constant, consistent, ancient Christian love looks incredibly different and even attractive.

The world needs Jesus now even more than ever, and the message of love, salvation, atonement, and acceptance in Christ is far better and more attractive than anything the left has to offer.

329 I'll just note this one time, as I don't know if anyone really cares what I think or not.

Conservatives that think getting close with Musk is a good thing are going to regret it in the end.

That doesn't mean that none of his individual actions might be seen in a good light from a conservation perspective. His position on COVID shutdowns of his USA plants were commendable, though note how he hasn't responded the same way with his Chinese masters in Shanghai.

And his position on free speech and positioning himself for a seat at the Twitter table also is probably a good thing.

The problem is everything else, from 1,000,000 self-driving robotaxis by 2020, to FSD software that will never be "feature-complete" level 5 autonomous yet fleecing customers for non-working features that have actually killed people, to a non-existent Tesla-semi and cybertruck, to a fake black and white android that will never come to fruition......the guy is a straight up charlatan. And I fear when this shit does come to light, it will make many look very bad in the (real) conservative sphere.

That alone tells me he is a nut job.

But, yes, he thinks far lefties are nuts. On that, we agree, but I think he's far left so...

With that I agree 100%, there should be no algorithm at all. There is however an algorithm and it seems to be doing the job its makers intended better and better all the time. Musk does not need to look at, inspect, or understand it, he needs to get rid of it all together.

417 From what little I understand about AI that is basically correct.

Not true, you tell the AI what is true and what is false at the beginning. That absolutely determines what the outcome will be. Tranny good, white male bad. Guess what the output will be.

You tell it what to optimize for, sort of, by scoring the output. What it's actually doing to reach that output can vary a great deal from what is expected, and when dealing with different problems/questions it can consequently get comically incorrect answers.

For example, if you teach it that the visual 2+2=4, it might conclude that 2+100+2=4, as both equations have two 2s in them.
