So they can dress that way for the game on Saturday, go hunting on Sunday, and pick up trash on Monday. What does the average Alabama player get on his SATs? Drool. How many Va Tech freshmen football players does it take to change a light bulb? None. That's a sophomore course. How did the Auburn football player die from drinking milk? The cow fell on him. Two Va Tech football players were walking in the woods. One of them said, " Look, a dead bird." The other looked up in the sky and said, "Where?" What do you say to a Florida State University football player dressed in a three-piece suit? "Will the defendant please rise." How can you tell if a Clemson football player has a girlfriend? There's tobacco juice on both sides of the pickup truck. What do you get when you put 32 West Virginia cheerleaders in one room? A full set of teeth. University of Michigan Coach Jim Harbaugh is only going to dress half of his players for the game this week. The other half will have to dress themselves. How is the Kansas football team like an opossum? They play dead at home and get killed on the road. How do you get a former University of Miami football player off your porch? Pay him for the pizza. The two had lived together for two months in the 1500 block of Cape Cod Drive in Oak Cliff. According to an arrest warrant, officers found Shavers' roommate standing outside with blood all over his face in the early morning hours of April 4. He told them Shavers had assaulted him. Police found Shavers inside the home, sitting on his bed with blood on his head and hand, according to the affidavit. I'm hoping The Fabulous doesn't see this. Sorry to miss the hobby thread, was busying figuring out how to scratchbuild some camera shrouds for the RB-26K that I will probably build next year from the 1/48 ICM B-26K kit. Still need to build a K38 camera to fit in the glass nose plus a P2 camera just aft of the operator's compartment in the tail.
Got in yesterday PE sets for the cockpit and operator's compartment. Will still need to scratchbuild control wheels for the pilots, add armrest to co-pilot's chair, add the gray quilted insulation to the cockpit sidewalls, and add glass to the pilot's gunsight. Not a whole lot of work, really.... *thud* Posted by: Anna Puma at April 09, 2022 09:58 PM (7/mPk) 24

I suspect that Ryan Leaf will not be playing for the Fan Controlled Football League.
He is far too busy going around talking to kids about how he fucked up his career and life by being an arrogant asshole and then a drug addict. He is very upfront about the blame for how his life turned out: 100% on his own shoulders. He also has a podcast that is pretty good, which is called, unsurprisingly, "Bust". Hated the guy back in the day. Now I like him for standing up and telling the truth and seeking to steer today's youngsters away from doing the same stupid shit that he did. Just think if we took that drive and energy to secondary education. Which is where Coach Snyder started out, IIANM. Our local pragmatic group ran a concession stand for the Football games to self-fund our Constitution Bee effort. $46,000 in scholarships based on knowledge of the US Constitution. Most of the team aged out of it, and we did not have a Bee this year. However, the Board was like a think tank, and 4 of that small number were or are (in my case) local officeholders. have some family ties to Montana, although I haven't been there in 40 years, and have lost touch with that branch. Back in the 1910, my grandfathers older brothers moved out there and set up some farms/ranches near Judith's Gap. I just got done waiting for over an hour for a couple of pizzas at a restaurant and to keep myself entertained (after all of our own conversations died out) I eves dropped on the table next to us. They were a bunch of grey haired libs and one of them was trying to explain "let's go Brandon" to the others. The only thing he got right was NASCAR. But in his description he clearly melded the Bubba Wallace hate crime* and the Brandon story and said that the "let's go Brandon" was us right wing racists comparing the president unfavorably to Bubba because we are all a bunch of racists.
He would later blame Trump for the Ukraine war because Trump invented fake news and Putin learned from this and used it in his favor to...blah, blah blah.... Not in Hungary (though I'm dying to visit), and get my smoked paprika at Trader Joe's. It's very very good in dry rubs for grilling etc. Also in slow cooker soups/stews, where called for. Has become a kind of staple for me.
Some day would like to do authentic-ish Hungarian stuff (Miklos, please stand by for recipe guidance). Best way is to go there, eat well, buy s**t, bring it back, try to replicate at home. This was the way of my people, back in the day. Got some really good home-made peri-peri hot paste in Angola, used it up, didn't try to replicate it though. I always buy two containers of the smoked (because who just wants food coloring?) when I get low just so I never stay low. As the commercial for a hot sauce says, "I put that sh*! on everything!" Will probably pick up a ham next week when they're on sale. Some times you get nice spiral cuts after holidays for very good prices. I use the ham in all the typical ways and then use the meaty bone for navy bean soup, which always is great. Also allows me to be lazy when carving it up - I just cut off the best and easy parts, as the rest ends up in the soup.

Wound up at a little hole-in-the-wall Japanese restaurant, and the food was very good. And Kirin beer. Moved on to a touristy Mexican joint, in search of Margaritas, but they had closed the bar already. Drove up the trail to a place called Taradiddles, and had two very tasty Margaritas there. Then they were closing for the night. An ancient guy across the bar asked the bartender to call him a cab. I spoke up, "We have to leave too, where do have to go?" At the liquor store where I picked up the rum there was a nice attractive young thing offering samples of Long Drink, a series of carbonated hard drinks based on Finnish traditional recipes. Basically gin and juniper berries and a few other flavorings in a carbonated base. The basic/original version is very refreshing. There's a cranberry/something else flavored one, a double ABV level one, and a sugar-free one.
Not much for that whole category but on a hot summer day I can see the original Long Drink, actually much prefer it to the hard seltzers I've had, some of which I like. Posted by: rhomboid at April 10, 2022 02:28 AM (OTzUX) 458

Months of cabbage twice a day, during my time in the USSR during the days of Glorious Soviet Power, put me off it (except for coleslaw) for a few years. Likewise cucumbers. I recovered. Posted by: rhomboid at April 10, 2022 02:30 AM (OTzUX) 461

The old chain had definitely jumped teeth. It was fooked. Got the new one in; timing cover and water pump buttoned up. Hit the starter, it ran for 2 seconds, sounded OK, and quit. Would not restart. Go figure. I took great pains to ensure I had the timing marks set right. Suspect fuel pump, or lack of signal to same.

Corned beef n cabbage done in crockpot like AOP said-- pretty good!
I use the spices included w/c.beef, put them into a tea-ball with a few peppercorns added. Chicken stock instead of plain water, add chopped onions with the meat and let it cook all day. Remove tea-ball and add cabbage about an hour before serving. Posted by: JQ at April 10, 2022 02:39 AM (dpnJh) 468

Posted by: JQ at April 10, 2022 02:39 AM (dpnJh) Whenever I've done the corned beef in a crock pot, I use the bag seasonings, plus add more of coriander seed, mustard seed, black peppercorns and allspice berries. I use a teaspoon (in a cup of water) of beef-flavored Better Than Bouillon from a jar, along with some whole garlic and a medium onion halved. I pull the meat out and just scrape everything off while warm, including large chunks of fat. I've found the broth inedible as opposed to when I make a beef roast in the crock pot. It's funny, I don't go the corned beef and cabbage route but use the corned beef for open-faced reuben sandwiches as well as put portions away in the freezer to have corned beef hash; that corned beef is so much better than the canned. Miklos, I've never seen nor heard of Minors. You have to go with what you can find and, as you say, the jarred Better Than is better than powdered or cubed bouillon.
I keep both chicken and beef flavors in the fridge to add to all kinds of stuff. Sliced carrots with the beef flavor, ground cumin, black pepper and a pinch of salt is absolutely delicious. You can puree it with a stick blender and make a soup out of it as well; when it's in the bowl top with a dollop of sour cream. Posted by: RickZ at April 10, 2022 03:02 AM (ldL4g) 481

Brisket used to be sooooo inexpensive. And then
Mom made "Mulligan Stew" probably every week when I was little. Cheap! Brisket, taters, turnips, carrots-- it varied-- ugh. Crockpots were not common back then, so she'd pressure-cook the meat. Could smell it a block away, not bad but distinctive. Tasted better than it smelled, and was fairly bland as I recall. Posted by: JQ at April 10, 2022 03:08 AM (dpnJh) 484

I've never heard or seen those stores. Now in some case stores are not here because of, well, NYC and its costs. But also there is one national chain that I know of that is not allowed within the borders of NYC, Wal-Mart, so there might be others on the verboten list as well. A few year back, you could have heard the wailing and gnashing of teeth on the moon when Chik-fil-A opened a location in Manhattan. Former Mayor Fuck-Face (that's former Mayor Warren Wilhelm, a/k/a former Mayor Big Bird, to youse out of towners) in a regular press conference criticized their right to be here and didn't want them here at all. Basically, I'm not going to Windows 11, ever. I'll just use Linux if I need to after the end of support. You can go into the BIOS and turn off the TPM or Intel PTT (which emulates TPM) and that makes your machine incompatible with Windows 11. The automatic upgrade will not run. Microsoft gets very sneaky trying to upgrade, and this will prevent that from ever hapenning. Posted by: publius, Rascally Rapscallion (Mzdiz) at April 10, 2022 04:35 AM (Mzdiz) 511

Me, I've got the taste bud genes that make brussels sprouts taste like little bitterness grenades. Nothing but a terrible bitterness, no matter how you cook 'em. It's amazing how the different cultivars, of the same damned single plant species, change all that. Cabbage can have some of those bitter molecules in 'em, usually in the outer leaves of a head. So that's why I always make sure to strip off the outer few layers of leaves for my boiled cabbage. Posted by: publius, Rascally Rapscallion (Mzdiz) at April 10, 2022 04:45 AM (Mzdiz) 513
There is a certain compound, in high relative concentration in brussels sprouts. If you've got the genes, that compound produces an overwhelming bitter taste on your taste buds. If you don't have that gene, that compound does nothing, and your taste buds respond to all the other stuff in them. You will like those, usually. Broccoli, cabbage, et al, the other cultivars, don't present as much of that compound, usually. You don't notice it usually, if you have the bitter gene. Take any two pure solutions - pour any volume of one into the other. You now have a diluted solution. Now, take an equal volume of that solution, pour it in the other. You haven't transferred equal amounts of Material A and Material B. You will, by definition, have more of Material A in the original container, and less of Material B in the second container. They switch to cards because cards are not a "mixture". Cards are finite units. Mix as many hearts with a single spade - the spade doesn't take on aspects of hearts. It doesn't become less black or more red. Posted by: Nope at April 10, 2022 11:31 AM (46g+/) 515
