The Heist, Part 2.

The Heist, Part 3. The less-success reboot where they species-swap the main characters.

The Imposter.

Mama elephant comes to the rescue of baby elephant.

i gotchoo boo

A new way to play fetch.

The first ever cat clip, from the Lumiere brothers in 1899. For over 100 years, the genre never improved.

Although this one is cute: copycat.

And it's always fun watching cats freak out over animals on TV.

Bald eagle tango.

Fun, but also a little creepy.

Hoppetty hop hop hop.

One of the most intense jump scares ever committed to video.

The cutest little velociraptor.

This is the kind of coin I imagine that professional necromancers carry around.

Will you be my friend?

Just went into their pen and tried to hold momma long enough to direct kid's mouth toward nipple, to no avail. Even tried milking some milk into my palm and offering it to the kid, but she wouldn't stick her tongue out and try it.

Owner has no experience in this and neither do I. I'm about to grab a baby bottle, fill it with cow milk and go try to feed the kid, but I fear that isn't the right move.

This cross-dresser bullsh*t has hit our quiet little school system. Fine. Except tensions were high, and a teacher told a parent that they weren't invited to a field trip. Wait, what? It was confirmed. No parents could come. No parents were "invited."

Nope, sorry. At no time should a school that begs for parents to constantly raise funds and read to kids and participate in PTO meetings and write letters etc etc. ever tell a parent "You can't come on this fun trip as a chaperone."

The tranny stuff disturbed me. The "you aren't invited" was the straw that broke the camels back.

A supposed "mystery" and a TV show that goes on and on with no resolution, ever. It always amused me a bit because when I was a kid, my mother had a paperback about "The Mystery of Oak Island!" that I found and read. Well fast forward from the 1950's to 2020, and after nearly 70 years of constant investigation - the story had not changed even one tiny bit, and there was no more "evidence" than there had been before.

It is, especially these days. You will need plenty of patience. Give your kids room to make mistakes. Don't be shitty to them if they aren't learning as quickly as you want them to, or don't understand something right away. If you're personally deficient in specific subject matter there are lots of resources at your disposal. Avail yourself of opportunities to let them do things with other kids.

You have not dreamed of — wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov’ring there,
I’ve chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air . . .
Up, up the long, delirious burning blue
I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or ever eagle flew —
And, while with silent, lifting mind I’ve trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

277 255 For Christmas, Mr. April gave me a cross necklace. It is all diamonds. Lord forgive me, I hate it. I have never cared for diamonds, and we've discussed it many times, and he says how lucky he is I don't want them.

**

I'm not joking when I say that necklace could be useful at some point in the future. I hope it isn't and we can all laugh at this famine, food shortage, war, inflation, etc. and chuckle at how wrong we were, but if facemask colander time hits, popping a diamond off to pay for a tire will be an option.

279 Home schooling - we tried. In Chicago, so we never even considered public schooling. We did try a Catholic school for daughter's kindergarten - a mistake. Put them in a French immersion school for a little while, which was m/l a mistake, but daughter retains much of the French.

We didn't have the kind of homeschooling support available nowadays. A cousin not only has formal curricula, but team sports with private schoolers and other homeschoolers.

We were pretty informal, fortunate we both were home most of the time; just about anything was an educational opportunity.

Along the way they learned the word autodidact. Told them, at home, in school, wherever, you're ultimately going to be the one in charge of your own education.

That's kind of where we're leaning. We're camping types, and I do lots of my moneymaking online and from anywhere at most anytime. It was my wife's idea. "You know they're only getting two or three hours of actual classroom instruction every day, and probably not even one hour of REAL instruction total. Both kids play instruments and are in church. You can take them to the places your learning about to learn about history. When you study math you can take them out to really study the math."

308 What grade/s are they in now?

**

See, that's the difficult part. One is middle, one is elementary, but when NC decided to close the schools they brought their books home and I homeschooled them for two or so months. And we did everything in a week and a half. My daughter, after going through 45-50 pages in her math book, said "Dad, this would've taken me a month to a month and a half in class." I told her to consider why. Not to be judgmental, but to make the calculated, determined understanding of why she cant advance. It registered. I didn't want her to be irritated with the slower kids, or consider herself "better", but I wanted her to understand that they controlled her, and that was unfortunate.

316 Chicago had some educational advantages. Great museums. Learning not to go in certain neighborhoods...

When our sons turned driving age, Oklahoma had just instituted educational tests to get a license. This was the first real 'test' we had of their educational level. The woman who administered their tests said they both tested at or close to college level in reading & math.

Funny thing, one son didn't know to use the answer sheet, so he just wrote the answers in the quiz book. Not a problem, the woman said.

One other thing - homeschool kids interact with all ages of folks, and are "socialized" much better than kids stuck in same-age classes for years. YMMV of course.

321 My favorite grade school field trip was to what is now Tonto Natural Bridge Park near Sedona; back then it was privately owned. You hiked down into it down a rough mile long (about) trail, and there was no one there, our 6th grade teacher paid in advance for our class to go there.

What was crazy was that back then, once you got inside the natural bridge (which is huge!) you could see this rickety 40 foot tall ladder that looked like it had been built in the 1890's, leading to this "secret cave" way up high in the rocks. No railings, no safety gear, and when you got to the top you kind of had to swing yourself over a 40' drop to sharp rocks below to get into it. I can't believe my 6th grade teacher was nuts enough to encourage us boys to go up there. I can't believe I was crazy enough to do it!

yeah today's kids have no idea what we used to do.

I wonder if field trips were dropping- even before the 'pandemic.'

For one thing, you have to get the permission of the site and I wonder if liability becomes a thing. Two, you need teachers who are actually interested in, you know, teaching and having kids learn things.

It is kind of a shitty thing. One thing field trips (or family trips- which also seem to have fallen out of vogue) is that history and interesting things are EVERYWHERE, no matter where you live.

I was just thinking, you would have to probably limit it to underground levels of a building that are entirely encased in manufactured walls of some kind, otherwise a shack at the entrance to a great big natural cavern would count. Which would just be silly.

I also have no idea what the catacombs of St Peter's look like.
