Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | End of an Era: Bruce Willis Is "Stepping Away" from Acting, Due to Brain Disease AphasiaSo he's stepping away from acting due to a progressive neurological disease, but Joe Biden is going to keep on presidenting, huh? John McClane has finally gotten too old for this shit. I know that McClane never said that but I'm doing a thing.Bruce Willis is "stepping away" from acting after he was diagnosed with aphasia. The actor's daughter, Rumer Willis, shared the news on behalf of the entire family on her Instagram on Wednesday. "To Bruce's amazing supporters, as a family we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is impacting his cognitive abilities," the caption on a photo of the actor reads. "As a result of this and with much consideration Bruce is stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him."In other words, Willis is recovering from a "childhood stutter." That's what the leftwing propaganda corporations call it, right? Thanks to lowandslow for the sad news. RedLetterMedia had just talked about Bruce Willis appearing in a dozen straight-to-RedBox "movies" in the past couple of years. Movies in which he gets paid $2 million or so just to show up for two days for a short cameo. He didn't appear to bother learning the short script given to him; he had his lines read to him through a visible earpiece radio. A lot of scenes are just shot in front of a greenscreen. In one case, the RedLetterMedia guys think that another actor was dubbing Bruce Willis. They did this episode after having read about "The King of the Geezer Teasers," a producer who pays aging stars $1 or $2 million for a day or two of work for his low-budget movies. They just want to show Bruce Willis, John Cusack, John Travolta, Nick Cage, Al Pacino or Robert DeNiro in a trailer and put their name on the top of the video box. On Wednesday, January 13, Randall Emmett presided over a crime scene near one of America's few tropical rain forests in Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico. Robert De Niro, dressed as a small-town Georgia sheriff, emerged from a sun-faded mobile home and walked solemnly past a black van marked CORONER, looking like a man uneasy about the ordeal ahead of him. In Wash Me in the River, the feature film Emmett had just started shooting, that ordeal was to pursue a recovering opioid addict exacting revenge on the drug dealers he holds responsible for his fiancée's death. Off-camera, De Niro's ordeal was no less daunting -- somehow, the great actor had to keep Hollywood's worst filmmaker from ruining the movie they'd set out to make together. Emmett, who is 50, has directed just one other film, which has yet to be released. But as a producer, his credits include more than 110 movies, which have grossed in excess of $1.2 billion, most of them bad enough to require a category all their own. Among these, a few are impressively dreadful, like Neil LaBute's 2006 remake of The Wicker Man, starring Nicholas Cage; others are the forgettable detritus of a bygone era, like the 2007 thriller 88 Minutes, which marked a low point for both Al Pacino's acting career and the use of cell phones as a plot device; most, however, are cheap paint-by-numbers action flicks such as Survive the Night, with Bruce Willis; Mercenary for Justice, starring Steven Seagal; and Backtrace, which brought Sylvester Stallone and Matthew Modine together for one of cinema's more improbable partnerships. Such a bleak filmography would seem an unlikely lure for collaborators like De Niro and John Malkovich, who also appears in Wash Me in the River. But over a career spanning more than two decades, Emmett has made a fortune producing bad movies; that he has done so while pissing off investors, directors, and screenwriters -- and, arguably, misleading audiences -- hardly matters in Hollywood, where feature films have become increasingly difficult to finance and box-office receipts recently approached a 40-year low. There's a crude, blunt brilliance to Emmett's filmmaking formula: Accept money from just about anyone willing to hand it over, offer vast sums of it to an aging star for a day or two of work, then leverage that actor's name to presell the movie in foreign markets. Along the way, forgo union writers and directors whenever possible, keep shooting days to a minimum, and film on location in places like Puerto Rico, where the local government offers filmmakers tax credits that can be sold on the open market for 90 cents on the dollar. Ugliness, after all, is excusable in Hollywood, where Harvey Weinstein was sheltered for decades by his power and ability to make people money; in Weinstein's absence, it remains the kind of town where even auteurs like Martin Scorsese will rub elbows with Emmett, producer of Private Valentine: Blonde & Dangerous, as long as it helps them get a movie made. Here's how Emmet got his start: For those old enough to remember his early days in Hollywood, Emmett is still Mark Wahlberg's former personal assistant, the hard-partying hanger-on who helped inspire the character Turtle on HBO's Entourage. After that episode, the RedLetterMedia guys did a semi-apologetic update when a bunch of commenters told them that there was a rumor that Willis had a degenerative brain disease and was just cranking out as much crap as possible before quitting acting. And I guess that explains the earpiece, and his limited engagement with the thin scripts. Apparently those rumors are true. I wonder if the family confirmed the rumors due to RedLetterMedia inadvertently giving them a larger platform than they previously had. As RedLetterMedia observed, when Willis retires from acting, no one will remember this crap he pumped out at the end of his career. People will only remember Die Hard and Pulp Fiction, so no great harm. I wonder how long this has been going on -- Willis has been known for phoning in performances for years. Maybe he just got too rich to care. Maybe, like Mickey Rourke, he began to feel that acting was a very "feminine" kind of occupation and just was turned off by it. Bonus: A Bruce Willis rarity, the original ending of Die Hard with a Vengeance (Die Hard 3). Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

The idea of a fan paying money for some worthless movie because I'm the draw and them having a sour taste in their mouth. I would have to think Bruce Willis is worth tens of millions even without these gigs, did he really need the cash?

I've noticed that there's no live footage of him getting on or off AF-1 nor getting in or out of any vehicles. There used to be footage shot at the White House grounds, but after rezident retard got lost so often even those shots are few and far between. I've also noticed he's slurring his words more and more. He's beginning to sound a bit like Pelosi who I can't understand at all. It's funny how every action movie has decrepit old men in the starring roles, since Hollywood studios moved away from the genre in general, and now seem to recruit actors solely based on how wan and effeminate they are - the casting directors like that. They can always juice them on 'roids, and then grease them up and shove them into a leotard for whatever the newest overdone homoerotic comic book shit is, but it's not really how you make an "action star." Just the other week, there was an episode of "Highway Patrol" on MeTV with a very young Clint Eastwood. Highway Patrol was a hoot. Broderick Crawford starring. The shootout scenes are hysterical. The bad guys and the cops just jerk their guns and fire willy-nilly from the hip. ---------------- I met Broderick Crawford around 1972 in North Hills Shopping Center. Sadly, Willis and a number of "action stars" are all fading away. In their place are homos, soi bois and effeminates. I can't really think of anyone who's making a shit ton of money in movies like Willis and his ilk did.

Random but related story -
When Chinese actress Bingbing Fan suddenly disappeared a few years ago due to her tax dispute with the PRC government, she was cast in a Chinese WW2 film that had Willis in a cameo (as Chennault, I think). IIRC, they ended up cutting her part since she wasn't available for the shoot. Haven't seen the film, though I've heard it's bad. Posted by: FDR at March 30, 2022 02:15 PM (R8Wj8) 425

I hope the aphasia was not caused by starring in too many of these trash films (like the one with De Niro, described in the inset excerpt) of late. I have seen a bunch lately on Netflix that get to claim "Starring Bruce Willis" but when you analyze it, he could have been on set for 2-3 days to do his entire bit. He was showing up in so much junk, with such increasing frequency that I wondered if he had a health issue that made him want to churn as much cash as possible in a limited amount of time.

Germany began preparing for eventual shortages of natural gas on Wednesday, as the country's economy minister pointed to growing concerns that Russia could cut off deliveries unless payments on existing contracts were made in rubles.
The government activated the first step of a national gas emergency plan that could, eventually, lead to the rationing of natural gas. Wednesday's action -- the first step, or "early warning stage" -- involves setting up a crisis team of representatives from the federal and state governments, regulators and private industry, said Robert Habeck, the economy minister and vice chancellor.
By the way, trivia bit: Bruce and Demi named their daughter Rumer not as a misspelling, but after a novelist they (or she) liked, Rumer Godden. RG is best known for the novel In This House of Brede, which became a TV movie with Diana Rigg as a woman who (I think) becomes a nun. But Godden wrote a number of other books.

Clint Eastwood would do crappy or studio films to make enough money and get enough studio credit to do his own projects. So his work is very mixed, some good, some bad. It was the way he could finance and get the freedom to do stuff he loved like Unforgiven, when nobody was making cowboy movies, because they wouldn't earn enough.

What's astonishing to me is the near mirror image of symptoms in all of these poor people. There are many debilitating symptoms mentioned repeatedly and are a common theme. One of them is the inability to focus and form words, brain fog, not being able to recall and articulate things. That's not to say he didn't have mini strokes. That's also not to say it might have been exacerbated by the covid vaccine. It's just a common symptom he seems to be having as well. Texas won't lock. Not after what we know now.
I have less faith in Texas. Abbott is unreliable at best. And Austin, Dallas, and Houston are going to do exactly what Dems want because Dems control all three. Abbott and Paxton have already disclaimed in court any ability to enforce his anti-mask executive order, for example, saying only local authorities have the power to do so. So unless the Legislature, which would have to be called into special session, gets involved Dems can probably do what they want in urban areas. Thayer was very credible as Wolfe, but then he died and Conrad stepped in. I bought the A&E series (with Chaykin) and the tv series with Conrad as well. Loved Chaykin and Tim Hutton in the first, could not stand Conrad and Lee Horsely in the second. And while the A&E writers at least tried to follow the books, the ones who adapted them for the second series basically threw them out the window--inventing new characters, changing others, re-writing the plots, and generally coming up with a ridiculous result that only vaguely resembled Rex Stout's originals. Pansexual is a term that was made up because some of the people who were known as "bi-sexuals" (attracted to people of both sexes) were not attracted to trannies, and the trans lobby was offended that they weren't being included, so they made up a new, more "inclusive" term for switch hitters. I'll relate here a little personal experience regarding aphasia. In the aftermath of my recent brain event, I would occasionally have some difficulty enunciating words. This manifested itself particularly when I first awakened from sleep.
On the first experience of that, it was extremely frustrating. It made no sense. I knew what I wanted to say, was thinking clearly, and perfectly cogent, but could not make the words come out right. It wasn't so much frightening as frustrating. Almost any brain event, trauma, stroke, aneurysm, etc., can have this consequence. Depending on the nature of the 'injury', aphasia might be overcome by training/therapy. Whole leagues of speech pathologists are engaged in such efforts, and I have known a couple. I have largely recovered, and only fumble my speech every now and then, but it still happens, and I am very aware of it when it does.
