The Ace of Spades Pet Thread

3 26 22 pet thread.jpg

***

I don't believe for a minute that dog wrote that. Everybody knows dogs don't have thumbs.

That said. Good afternoon and welcome to the almost world famous Ace of Spades Pet Thread. We are happy you stopped by to kick back, forget about current events and enjoy the world of animals.

***

For the pet who has everything. Almost.

Pets are like family. Here at BuzzNick, we have driven that point home quite a few times. Pets will love you unconditionally if you show them the same type of love in return. They really aren’t all that hard to please. I remember when I had dogs, there was nothing better than them greeting me when I returned home after a long day. No matter how bad my day had been, they were still there to show me how much they cared about me. Well if you are the type of person who wants their pet to be able to sleep with you at night, but don’t want to deal with them on top of the bed with their dirty paws, this new product is definitely for you. Check out this alternative bed and see for yourself.

Here is the bed pet lovers have been waiting for.

Meet The PetMorons

-Lucky
So I keep forgetting to send these two. The pictured dog who is outside is Vinnie. He is our grandson's dog, he's about 18 months old. We don't see much of him but he does love people.

The dog that's indoors is MInnie. She is our daughter's dog. We babysit her while daughter is at work. She is about 7 months old and a real terror. She has no fear, harasses the poor old Beagle Lucky. He is learning to play, at the ripe old age of 8 years. But eventually he has had enough and she just doesn't get it. She is very inquisitive, climbs everywhere, and has learned that when she has something she shouldn't she flaunts it in front of you until you give her a cookie. By the time her Mama gets home the oldsters are done.

For reference I've included Lucky the beset Beagle.- Dale

It looks like you have your hands full and Lucky has paws full with that Minnie character. You have reminded us that pups are a lot of work, but a lot of joy as well. Thank you for sharing with us.

A few years ago , one of my sons decided he wanted to get a small dog from a shelter. The small dog turned out to be a Rhodesian Ridgeback. Here is Aggie helping me clean off the counter from smoked corned beef. - Kevin

That little puppy became a big time Counter Surfer. But then again who can refuse smoked corn beef? Thank you for showing off Aggie.

Hi MisHum,

Life’s been keeping me from commenting lately, but I still lurk when I can catch a minute to myself. I wanted to send along some pictures of my new frens.
Fuzzy and The Grey Man are 2 strays that have decided they like the chow here. I assume they’re both boys because of the size of their paws, but I haven’t been able to crate them for a vet visit yet and they’re too hairy for me to tell.
Fuzzy likes to camp out on my bed and up close looks like he was made by Jim Henson. As you can see by the state of his coat, Grey Man has spent too much time on his own, but is the chillest stray you’ve ever seen.
With my 2 girls that have already been featured, I’m well on my way to becoming Bubbles from Trailer Park Boys.

Liquor and whores,
Prince Ludwig the Deplorable

If not Bubbles the Crazy Cat Man. Handsome looking cats. Somebody's loss is your gain. We are happy that they found you and have a good home. Good on you.

Thank you each and everyone stopping by today. And thank you to the Morons who submitted PetMorons to us. If you would like to share something you can reach us here at petmorons at gmail dot com.

Have a great week!

28 Some weeks ago I mention a feral kat I was feeding. Well she had her babies a week ago last Thursday. I thought she would have had them in the outdoor house I got for her but she had somewhere in mind. When she finally showed up for dinner one evening she was very energetic and loving. I started to follow her when she left but she was having none of that. She stared at me doing my best to hide behind the huge conifer. After a minute or two I turned and went home. No reason to stress her out. She comes everyday to eat and drink. Today I realized this was not her first rodeo when I opened the back door to say hello. While Missy was eating, up the steps came another kat, who was adult size and stared in fear of me then quickly left. What I was able to see was how that kat looked exactly like Missy. Exactly. Well my, my, my. Yeah, five weeks and you are off the animal control van that does the snipping. Don't know when kittens can get snipped but I will find out and, hopefully, I will be able to curb the kat population in general.

30 How do you mistake a Rhodesian for a small dog? Lol. Do some research people!! In this case it turned out OK. But a lot of people will do this and then 6 months later give the dog away because it is too big. I rescued a dog that was this very situation. People got it as a puppy in an apartment. And shockingly the dog grew as it aged and then was too big for said apartment. So the owners just said nah no good, you are going to the pound. Fucking people man!!

And is Rhodesian still PC? I figured the wow police would have demanded the breed be renamed to Zimbabwe Ridgeback

46 Happy pets thread!
Reporting back stateside, the worst part of vacations is separation from your fur people. (of course, lots of people travel with their pets these days...). Reunited with Dexter, 12 year old male, domestic short hair cat, he purred and tried to meow but the poor thing was hoarse from meowing at the walls, I guess. He stayed home and my neighbor fed him. Gave me a little love bite just for good measure. We both caught up on our sleep this morning.
Love the doggies up top.

51 Just came in from dog's favorite thing in the world. We have many native live oaks in our yard, several over 100 years old. We have three chairs underneath one of the most picturesque ones. After lunch when it's warm--which it is finally starting to be--I go out and sit in one of the chairs with my book, some music, and a beverage. If she sees me pick up my speaker, she is over the moon! We sit out there for a couple of hours and she watches the world go by while I read.

There isn't a single thing I can do that makes her happier. What a sweet girl!

53 Pest Thread is the best thread! I mean, Pet Thread is... nevermiiind, YKWIM.

Yeller cat Charlie is still weak and wobbly, but seems just a little bit springier and is eating a little better. W hope he's going to recover and not just go out as we were (and still are, if less so) afraid he would.

Black Cat Ony woke us up a couple of days ago with that "there's something in my mouth" sound. Found her just in time to see her drop something which scurried away. Well, Ony may not have killed it, but she did alert us. So, I found a little housemouse in a snaptrap this morning. Probably not alone, so traps still set. Trick is to put them where the cats can't get snapped.

Sep 19, 2020 Pet Thread featured a pic of kittens we had just rescued, what Moron Robbie dubbed the two-headed cat. Daughter & SiL have them, and they're grown now, but still often snuggle & look like two-headed cat. I've mentioned all this before, but bring it up again because Bluebird of Bitterness's Caturday Funnies this week is themed "two heads are better than one."

57 Missed the garden thread but this really belongs here. Transplanted my first tomato seedlings to Solo cups yesterday, and fixed them on a card table by the front window for more (gradual) sun. My orange cat Rufus, just turning one year, is charmed. I told him all about the "plants," so twice already he's jumped up on the card table, sprawled beside them, and nuzzled the cup edges carefully. He's figured out we are supposed to love them, I guess. He is the sweetest cat I ever had.

Beautiful pets today (as always!) Sidney, kudos to you on the spaying plans.

61 I have previously commented on cats in Hawaii. If you are moving with your cat, the state requires a period of quarantine, so in general, I didn't see many. However a colony of feral cats is maintained in (of all places) Wailea, home of some of the priciest resorts on the planet (Fairmont, Four Seasons, etc.) who pays for vet visits and you can see they provide paper plates with Friskies. They don't like people much. They enjoy the biggest litter box of all (the beach).

70 I have a new neighbor that moved across the street. I was out there yesterday with Mrs B doing some trimming and raking. Out of nowhere I see a small dog doing a jog over to me and sits down in front of me. No barking, just sat there. I yell to Mrs B, "we have a dog". Soon as I say that the dog walks over to the hedge trimmers and tries to carry them off, but they are bigger than him, so i yell YO, he stops, turns around, and then goes and tries to pee on the porch. Mrs B says I think thats the neighbor's dog, and he happened to be outside working on his car. She gets the dog to follow her across the street and sure enough the dude calls it and puts it in the house. Mrs B walks over and says I wonder what he was doing over here. I look at the hedge trimmers dragged half way across the lawn, and a pee puddle in front of the stairs, and I said "reminding us why we don't have animals". lol

74 We were adopted by a momma cat about 4-5 years ago. She had 3 kittens in tow. It took us months but we got each cat fixed. Now, 2 of the kittens are more or less layabouts here while the other one is still more or less feral. Momma is a house cat.

It was a bit of a hassle to get them all to the vets, but I think it was the responsible thing to do since they're pretty much mostly outside cats.

80 If anyone has an ill or injured pet and you have a Bluepearl Animal Hospital near you, AVOID THEM. We spent thousands on diagnostics with them at their Paramus location only to be told they couldn't identify our berner's lung tumor type. That didn't stop them from recommending surgery for thousands more. We got NOTHING useful for the money and we lost precious time.

We took our dog to PetCure Oncology in Clifton for a second opinion. Thank God we did. They're all board-certified and competent. Surgery would have been an utter disaster because it turns out she has histiocytic sarcoma that has spread to the lymph nodes in the lungs. She started chemo and we're also doing SRS (really strong radiation doses delivered with sub-millimeter precision to the tumor while leaving healthy tissue alone, in just 3 treatments).

Even with that, they're giving her 3-8 months. Right now she is the most loved-up dog on earth. I'm so angry at Bluepearl for recommending the trauma and risk of surgery and grateful our uneasiness and skepticism sent us elsewhere.

Hello, all! Yes, just got up from a much-needed nap. Thanks for the thoughts this week, everyone. Chekov the Codger Cat is no longer ailing -- if I know him, and I do, he's probably causing trouble in Cat Heaven. I'll send a couple of pics of the big Siberian in his prime this week.

93 Prince LUdwig, Fuzzy and the Grey Man are fantastic looking cats. You're lucky.

When I walked Miss Linda home last night, her black feral cat, the one who visits off and on for outdoor chow, was curled up on the gallery that runs outside her windows. He got up and came a little closer when he saw us, but was still a healthy distance away. This cat is smart -- still alive after several years, we think, in an apartment complex roamed by cars and other predators. He only wants food, though, not any interaction with humans.

95 I love the looks of long haired cats but the DSHs do better with me. I'm not diligent enough with brushing to keep a long hair from getting matts. At least the rather wild LH we had would let me cut the matts out although she wasn't having regular brushing to prevent them. But once or twice a year she looked just awful for a few weeks or so with all the nearly bald patches were matted hair had to be cut away.

I've only purchased a cat from this one breeder about 80 miles away 2 times. Chekov was the second, his aunt Tatiana the first. Both were good personalities, though Tati was not as healthy and passed away young.

Otherwise, I've adopted from the SPCA, Linda was given Marie the black cat as a rescue, the blue-eyed probable Siberian came up to me in a parking lot, and I adopted the tuxedo cat from a Maine Coon breeder at a show who had rescued the little part-Persian.

112 When I got Tux last year I was worried he wasn't drinking enough and he seemed to enjoy wet food. Then it was he only likes the pate kind mixed with a bit of water. Now it is half a 3 oz can will not be finished (the dog loves this) and I skip any wet on day 3, sometimes 4 until Tux asks for more. I probably should just stop giving him any wet food and stick with strictly the Purina One sensitive skin and stomach dry and the Temptations treats. But I "can" spoil one cat and it's kind of fun to indulge him.

Wolf managed to stay out of trouble for the brief period between his abandonment by the hominids who'd apparently adopted him, and the point where I gave him a home. Linda tells the story of how he and an opossum stared at each other, basically shrugged, and walked away. No doubt Wolf was thinking, "I'm hungry, but *no way* I'm gonna eat that."

He may have gotten to spread his genes around -- there is an oddly high number of fluff-tailed black feral cats around here -- but fortunately never encountered anything dangerous like a 'coon or a coyote.

159 Jax, do we remember pictures of Rowdy on the Pet Thread before? I seem to.

Hugs to you. Nothing hurts quite like losing a pet.

160 I suspect my Abby was witness to the taking of the other cats. She now will not leave the deck or the porch. It's a relief. I tried keeping her in but she was unbearable. Four years feral and five more outdoors as an "owned" cat is impossible to overcome.

161 jax - Often said here that our pets' lives are too short, but six years is 'way too short. Love Australian Shepherds.

Wolfus, you probably won't catch this, but we've followed your reports on Chekov for so long. Thanks for sharing, and manly hug around the shoulders, pal.

Others who have lost furry friends - recently or ever - sympathy. We have daffodils coming up in the pet graveyard - where so many of our dear buddies were planted.

163 If I knew how to post a pic of him, I would but he was never on the thread. I love seeing everyone's pets here.

164 He was 18 months old when I got him from the shelter. Had been returned twice for aggressive behavior. He hated men but loved me. I got a trainer to work with us and he became a good buddy to the spouse.

Amen to that, as grown up as I like to think I am, I still mourn my departed pets, and it is a really tough thing to lose them, no matter their age or health.
