The Saturday Night Joke

DUGLY HAD SUFFERED FROM HEADACHES

Dugly had suffered from really bad headaches for the last 20 years. He eventually decides to go and see a Doctor.

The Doctor said, ‘Dugly, the good news is I can cure your headaches. The bad news is that it will require castration. You have a very rare condition which causes your testicles to press on your spine and the pressure creates one hell of a headache.

The only way to relieve the pressure is to remove the testicles.’

Dugly was shocked and depressed. He wondered if he had anything to live for.

He had no choice but to go under the knife. The surgery cost him $15,000.

When he left the hospital, he was without a headache for the first time in 20 years, but he felt like he was missing an important part of himself.

As he walked down the street, he realized that he felt like a different person. He could make a new beginning and live a new life.

He saw a Men’s clothing store and thought, ‘That’s what I need… A new suit.’

He entered the shop and told the salesman, ‘I’d like a new suit.’

The elderly tailor eyed him briefly and said, ‘Let’s see… size 44 long.

Dugly laughed, ‘That’s right, how did you know?’

‘Been in the business 60 years!’ the tailor said.

Dugly tried on the suit it fitted perfectly.

As Dugly admired himself in the mirror, the salesman asked, ‘How about a new shirt?’

Dugly thought for a moment and then said, ‘Sure.’

The salesman eyed Dugly and said, ‘Let’s see, 34 sleeves and 16-1/2 neck.’

Dugly was surprised, ‘That’s right, how did you know?’

‘Been in the business 60 years.’

Dugly tried the shirt and it fitted perfectly.

Dugly walked comfortably around the shop and the salesman asked, ‘How about some new underwear?’

Dugly thought for a moment and said, ‘Sure.’

The salesman said, ‘Let’s see… size 36’.

Dugly laughed, ‘Ah ha! I got you! I’ve worn a size 34 since I was 18 years old.’

The salesman shook his head, ‘You can’t wear a size 34. A size 34 would press your testicles up against the base of your spine and give you one hell of a Headache.’ (H/T TNDeplorable)

March 18 (UPI) -- Seres Therapeutics, a biotech company, has opened a donor collection facility to collect poop for cash in Arizona.

The company operates GoodNature, which has set up shop in Tempe and is asking for donations of poop that can earn donors at least $25 and up to $75 per sample.

daylight-saving-time-change-1090x886.jpg

Frankly I would rather have my daylight at the end of my business day. Yes. I am selfish.

Changing the clocks twice a year can be a hassle, so some people in the United States want to permanently keep Daylight Saving Time. However, that also means some areas in the country end up with late sunrise, which means going to work or school in the dark. For The Washington Post, Justin Grieser, Joe Fox, and Tim Meko mapped how sunrise times would change.

Geez, you're right. By the way, to show how fake Hollywood "looks" are, she once had a picture of herself taken where she was in underwear and without her hair and make up. She wasn't overweight, but she has the sagging due to her age and a relatively plain face with the lines of her age. She didn't look like she did in that movie with Arnold Schwarzenwhatever.

70 I don't really care which end of DST it falls on, I just wish we'd pick one time zone and stick with it. I went into the issues in some detail a couple of days ago (and, fittingly, the comments promptly time warped throughout the thread) but the upshot is that aside from all the missed meetings DST and timezone calculation causes a lot of problems in the computer world. Someone picks CST instead of CDT to get Central Time, then complains in the summer that the system clock is one hour off. Or they think GMT is really GMT, but it's not, and they get the same problem.

It seems pretty interesting until you realize it's severely overpriced chai tea sold on a recurring basis. Yeah, no. But they seem sincere about their beliefs in getting people to wean themselves off of coffee.

But nowhere in there does it acknowledge that beyond caffeine's ability to perk you up that it's even better at expediting a good ole dook. Sure, your fancy tea thing might have all these lovely health benefits but is it going to help me feel five pounds lighter?

89 65 Puddlegum, if you're still around, I read the Chomsky/Zinn vs. LotR thing and was amused.

Just like both of those chaps to completely miss the point even though the Lord Himself has written the Truth in fiery letters 100 feet tall in the sky.

92 The joke: This is why one should trust one's tailor more than one's medical malpractitioner. Speaking as someone who last had surgery* on a testicle, which the doctor, afterward, said was unnecessary! Scar tissue lumpier than the small cyst.

I learned how to be healthy, largely thanks to the wise wizard MiladyJo, who joined me shortly after that. You would have to drag me drugged and unconscious into an inhospitalable.

* Exception made for when my face was ripped open in a car wreck, but that was just Dr Frankenstein stitching me back together. I tell people the scar is from a bar fight.

And that's my 'way TMI for tonight, gang.

BC, I get a kick out of your Robert the Cat comments. He's improving your life every day, as cats are wont to do.

If he's active/interactive, you might look into getting a child's plastic fishing rod, and putting toys on the line, then casting to the other end of the living room. Catfishing is a ton of fun!

We got some little thingies that look like mini safety pins to attach to various cats toys so we could switch them out.

Mass is to be avoided on Easter and Christmas. Too many twice a year Catholics who can't figure out how to behave and just want to be seen.

I haven't flown anywhere in years, and I don't miss it at all. The worst part for me is waiting around the airport. With your having to get there at least 2 hours early, then all the delays and stress of wondering whether your flight will be canceled, or whether you will make a connecting flight. It's an awful experience.

122 I saw the latest Ghost Buster's this weekend - Afterlife.

And it was a really good movie. And...it looks like the Reitmans and the original cast all came back to make it specifically because they hated the feminist turd Paul Feig crapped out in 2016.

Basically a third ghost buster's movie had been in development hell since the 1980s - with the original cast coming back but they could never put it together.

After Feig's failure they had a script with everyone on board in three years. And I see the Reitmans were REALLY pissed off about what Feig had done.

We need more of this.

The problem is the 80s creative class is largely the original ideological enablers of this shit in the first place and until they get PERSONALLY shat on they do not care.

Feig went out of his way to crap on the OG movies really, you can see the passive aggressive "we're better take that" in his interviews and PR.

Kennedy Wars did the same thing to the OG star wars cast except making Carrie "Poppins" Fischer a make a wish kid.....

The next two shorts include animal cruelty and bestiality.

And the last one has just ordinary human awfulness, so it's practically a relief.

I think they were made out of pompoms, had little wire feet, and cheap eyes and beak glued to the head. For some reason I always liked seeing that crummy little thing on my Easter basket.

186 In the prequels one of the big mistakes Lucas made was having one guy, the Emperor, basically controlling everyone.

Make Dooku and the separatists the real good guys and the Jedi self righteous dupes and you have something of a story...

And they did the same think with the Disney sequels. The Emperor controls everything and everyone still. Just Super Mary Sue is too perfect to not defeat him.

Mary Sue Palpatine is him product perfected or something....

I get what he was going for, but if you take Lucas at his word (I do not by the way more on that later) he basically wrote Star Wars as a fuck you to Nixon and Vietnam so Nixon was the OG "evil overlord" in the Cali commie curious gearhead mythos.

I think he is full of shit, Star Wars is what he came up with when the IP holders for Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon laughed at him and it is a good thing but it is a mish mash of Bedouin/Samurai/ and World War Two history cross indexed with the lived in universe space western.

When he started scoring hippie tale from Berkeley as he broke up with the wife who saved the franchise with her editing he came up with "No no the empire are not space Germans with Brit accents they are America in name" to echo back their commie palaver.

the Bothans were the best slicers and spies in the universe and known for their networks in the novels and the other story was Han's pre-leia galpal was involved.

Anyone I forgive it is was just clumsy and heavy handed with "it cannot be Star Wars without fanservice from the first flicks" and Lucas was just as guilty....

Han basically wrecked Denagar's life in a race the dude in grey storm trooper armor with head bandages by thrusting down into his face.

302 Canadian mosque worshippers attacked with bear spray
Canadian police say worshippers at dawn prayer tackled and subdued a 24-year-old man who entered their mosque and attacked them with bear spray
By The Associated Press; 19 March 2022, 16:48
MISSISSAUGA, Ontario -- Worshippers at dawn prayer in a suburb of Toronto tackled and subdued a 24-year-old man who allegedly entered their mosque and attacked people with bear spray on Saturday, according to local police.

Peel Regional Police said the man walked into the Dar Al-Tawheed Islamic Centre in Mississauga, Ontario, and allegedly "discharged bear spray towards people in the mosque while brandishing a hatchet" just before 7 a.m.

Speaking on behalf of the mosque, Nadia Hasan of the National Council of Canadian Muslims said a group of about 20 men were praying when the man sprayed them.

[...] Mohammad Moiz Omar of Mississauga has been arrested. Police say they're considering "all possible motivations" for the incident, and charges are pending.

While I agree there are probably more pressing items to attend to at the moment, I have worked with too many black women who were told to "do something about their hair" when simply wearing it as God Himself made it, while at the same time allowing white women to walk around with "Big Hair" that probably took them 2 hours to fix.

Not a fan of 'locks, but if a woman is simply wearing her hair the way it grows naturally out of her head, then her employers can shut the fuck up.

You can't make black ladies wear their hair in a bun while the white ones get to wear theirs however they please.

313 No Moving Parts by Murray Yaco:
"Patience, patience," cautioned the navigator, haughtily, "if I am to reveal everything I know, I must do it in my own way. The description I just gave you is not necessarily true. It is simply the way that Sector Headquarters feels about Gypsies. Common jealousy, really. It seems that from time to time, our perfect little galactic society spawns men who don't care to be cast in the common mold. In short, there are a few men around with brains who don't think that it means very much to wear pretty uniforms or fancy titles."
"Uniforms like yours?" asked Hansen.
"Precisely," the navigator said sadly. "The truth of the matter is, of course, that I only play at being a navigator. I couldn't get this ship off course, if I tried. The same is true with the four engineering officers who stand around watching the Hegler drive units. They occasionally make a ceremonial adjustment, but beyond that, they simply stand around looking pretty."
"No moving parts." Hansen said.
"No moving brains, if you like. Anyway, a Gypsy has--somewhere along the line--learned how to do things. They'll take an emergency call about once a year. If they happen to feel like it."

322 Mediocre superduper, but at least these are not PC like the Supergirl show devolved into so badly.

I think the only part of that show I ever actually saw was the part where they introduce her uniform.

And it was pretty funny as they have her try on a bunch of supergirl outfits first...but it looked like crap overall.

I did like the portrayal of Supergirl in the injustice series. Amusing they could do a better job in a video game then a TV series in giving weight to a character...

We also got two but it's a very large value of two, as in Common-core Math where 2+2=5 but my value of two is of much greater magnitude. Recently we had a new arrival with one baby. Yeah, yeah, but but. I was being loose.

Part 1 of 2 thanks Pixy.

Always thought Arrow ran out of ideas about half-way through the first season first episode.

Legends has amped up the crazy and amusing. Even with some gay stuff, it stays weird: One gal was impregnated by her gal-pal because the one wasn't entirely human. I'll grant it a pass, because it was all just so out there.

Two best things in Supergirl: The publisher woman telling the superkids they looked like the cast of a CW show. And "Snapper Carr," a beatnickish teen in the '60s comics, as a bald old man editor chiding Laura/Supergirl for writing articles that were mush not journalism. I think he lasted about one episode, sad to say.

Superman and Lois is a latecomer. I've enjoyed the "Kent family returns to Smallville" theme, and it's been very strongly about family; the twin sons have a rare (for TV) real brotherly chemistry. At least neither of the sons is gay like in the comix. Also, Clark can be such a doofus.

Batwoman? Never watched any, never will. Meh.

I had the fixed-focus lenses installed. I was perfectly delighted with them, and remain so. My doc advised against the adaptive or "pseudo-adaptive" lenses, saying i would find them potentially troublesome, and hard to get used to. And they would have been major cash out of pocket, whereas the fixed focus lenses were free, courtesy Alberta Medical. I don't need glasses to drive, and i don't need them to read this computer screen, and given enough light, I can read a newspaper or similar sized clear type without resorting to reading glasses. My vision, post-surgery, is far, far better than it was pre-surgery, when I had severe myopia.

479 gourmand. In the '80s & '90s, I ran a medium-large National call center. Sales support for outside sales reps, 147 U.S. locations, NYSE, Fortune 1000 company.

My boss was the President of the company. When he (mandatory) retired at age 65, his step-brother (the CEO) assumed the President title also. Shitcanned EVERYone that worked for my former boss. Knowing it was coming, I landed under a very, VERY fat Corporate Parachute.

Still sucked. I had to walk in and fire all 60 of my employees, my entire department. I *knew* I would be canned, hence the parachute. Had no idea the CEO would be so vindictive as to kill-off the entire department. The re-established a new Call Center 18 mos. later, as sales had cratered without the strong appointment setting support. LOL

484 Built a new front drive shaft for the Peon Jeep today. Got rid of the busted CV joint at the axle end, and welded on a pinion yoke off the rear axle of a wrecking yard Jeep. Two circular beads with 7018 rod, burned real sweet, too. Began bolting it up, discovered that screw heads of the U-joint strap screws were binding on part of the mating yoke, so took the front half down, and used a zip wheel to clearance both yokes. This time, it went together perfectly. Had it out on the freeway, no vibration to 70 mph. I am delighted.

Well there ya go.

My favorite scar story is the very small one I have behind my left ear. I was at my parents' house, had gone out and come home extremely drunk (thank gawd a friend not as drunk as me was driving; ahhh, the old days when driving inebriated was okay as long as you didn't show it or hit anything). I remember standing in front of the toilet and pissing. The next thing I know my Mom is shaking me awake asking me 'Are you alive? Are you okay?' I woke up, thought 'Wow, my ear hurts.' There was a spot of blood on the pillow. When I went to the bathroom, I saw that I had passed out standing up, fell backwards over the edge of the tub and knocked the grouted soap dish out of the far wall onto the floor of the tub, then got up and went to bed. Had a ringing concussion for a week and that small scar as a reminder to drink a little less when going out. Or to pee sitting down when very drunk.

Yeah, I had a degree of astigmatism, and the cataract surgery got rid of that, too. My optometrist said, "You have incipient cataracts, not enough to hamper your vision, but enough to get you a surgery date. Go for it!" And I am glad that I did. Shit canned the contact lenses, and the Coke-bottle glasses. I buy 1-diopter reading glasses at the dollar store. And use them only when doing real close work. And really, really close work? Yeah, it might make a shower head for a Hobbit house. Really dinky. Studebaker pickup screens are closer to 4", and have a bypass device; should the screen become clogged, pump suction pulls it away from a metal crossbar, and allows unscreened oil to enter a half-inch port in the center of the screen. If I had been working on the Jeep back home, I would have adapted a Studebaker screen to it. There is enough room.

AOP, I got interested in the history of standard time and Sandford Fleming. It was a quite interesting read.

Re the Equation of Time. That is only needed for setting the mean time at the meridian to be the base. Time zones are just offsets from that.

Interestingly, in the US, before all this became standardized, different railroads would use a standard time for their operations, but each railroad used a different one!

These were based on mean time defined. Some used the standard from an observatory in Pennsylvania. Others used Chicago time, etc, etc.

The problem was keeping distant clocks synchronized with the base standard, and they developed telegraph time syncing standards for that.

525 I love the shout-out from RS McCain in the sidebar. As anyone who saw my impolitely rendered opinion this week knows, I take umbrage to the standalone description of ace as "cruel", as without clarification it is misleading at best and pure slander at worst.

A cruel man does not have a site with such open and loose rules for discussion, period. Ace is the golden exception to the rule in a rather cruelly moderated online world. And although I've had a couple moments where I was ready to self-jettison due to the zeitgeist in here temporarily taking a couple pretty beleaguered and disappointing turns, I never have.

It is "cool" that Ace got the mention from VDH - but I'm pleased that I'm not the only one who took specific notice of what was said.

Posted by: ... at March 20, 2022 01:31 AM (dscaa)

526 To clarify I'm not saying you *only* judge the cruelty of a man based on his blog rules (duh), I'm just giving the best well known example I have to hand of Ace's kindness.

The way Ace lets people go on about the vx despite his own opinions on the matter, letting all sides be aired freely - on a site which in the end represents *him*, is a clue.

WWV solved that problem. Canada has CHU, another timekeeping shortwave station. If they are still on the air. Back in the day, some major city AM radio broadcast stations had shortwave transmitters, too, to serve far-flung communities. CKWX in Vancouver, B.C. had a shortwave sister, CKFX. 49 meter band, IIRC.

I am proud of the Corps of noncommissioned officers and will at all times conduct myself so as to bring credit upon the Corps, the military service and my country regardless of the situation in which I find myself. I will not use my grade or position to attain pleasure, profit, or personal safety.

Competence is my watchword. My two basic responsibilities will always be uppermost in my mind - accomplishment of my mission and the welfare of my Soldiers.
I will strive to remain technically and tactically proficient. I am aware of my role as a noncommissioned officer. I will fulfill my responsibilities inherent in that role. All Soldiers are entitled to outstanding leadership; I will provide that leadership. I know my Soldiers and I will always place their needs above my own. The Longitude Problem, as it was known, was one of the biggest challenges to navigation. The top scientific minds of the ages worked on it.

In principle, it's very simple. All you need to know is a fixed standard time, from some reference, which became the prime meridian running through the royal observatory at Greenwich.

Then you make some simple astronomical observations. The trouble is having an accurate and stable enough clock synced with GMT to carry with you. That turned out to be a bitch.

You can look up some of the various methods that were developed to get around needing a clock. They were quite complex and not too accurate.
