The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

“It’s a very large settlement, so it sends a message to Georgia that if you violate somebody’s civil rights, the NAACP and civil rights attorneys will hold you to task and protect those young peoples’ rights.”Gerald Griggs, an attorney who works with the NAACP

Quote II

“Well, I mean, first of all, if you look at our fiscal policy, it is true. And amazingly, a lot of people don’t even know this, that the deficit has gone down and down by a remarkable amount. So, I think part of it is an expression of that. I think also part of it is pointing to the fact that some of the investments that we make help with inflation. I mean, that’s definitely true with the infrastructure investments, right, because we know how infrastructure is related to supply chain, supply chain is related to inflation." Sec. of Transportation Pete Buttigieg

What does the current regime have in common with The ONT? Lack of math.

Quote III

“We are opposed to the idea — and this, I think, is an existential part of the debate — that Israel should be preserved as a state for the Jewish people,” Amnesty International USA’s Executive Director Paul O’Brien

Hmmm. Sounds like a mid 80's GM product I once had.

Multiple owners of full-size General Motors trucks and SUVs built between 2015 and 2019 have banded together to file a lawsuit against GM over paint they say fails years too soon. They claim GM "knew, or should have known" it was selling vehicles plagued with what a dealer reportedly described as "bad paint" problems, and seek compensation in the form of repairs, replacement, or buybacks.

Filed in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, Riley et al., vs. General Motors LLC claims paint on certain GM SUVs and pickup trucks from less than decade ago is liable to "microblister, delaminate, peel, fade, and bubble" all "without any external or environmental influence." They suspect flaws in GM's paint, clear coat, or application process are to blame, and want GM to remedy the problem.

Pretty pricey wheels to have that kind of issue if true.

Definitely not Father of The Year material. "Another man told detectives he is married with eight children, and had left one of his children at a soccer game taking place nearby in order to meet with a prostitute."

Four Disney employees were among more than 100 people who were arrested on Wednesday as a result of a Florida human-trafficking sting, officials said. Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd on Wednesday announced the arrest of 108 people as part of “Operation March Sadness 2,” a six-day undercover operation.
According to the Polk County Sheriff’s office, the operation began on March 8, 2022 and involved law enforcement agencies from across the region. Detectives identified prostitutes who posted online advertisements with the intent to identify and free any victims who were being forced into prostitution, or anyone participating in the trafficking of victims. ere children—four men were arrested for preying on children online,” wrote the Sheriff’s office in a statement

Need some more confusion regarding the Russia vs. Ukraine mess?

The CIA May Be Breeding Nazi Terror in Ukraine

The CIA has been secretly training anti-Russian groups in Ukraine since 2015. Everything we know points to the likelihood that includes neo-Nazis inspiring far-right terrorists across the world.

Nothing about our CIA, FBI or any other worthless Alphabet Fed agency surprises or shocks me anymore.

The thing with all professional sports, they sure know where their bread is buttered. Mass executions? What mass executions>

It was only in October The Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund purchased Newcastle for £300million leaving the club bankrolled by Mohammed bin Salman.

But Howe refused to comment on matters over 4,000 miles away with his focus instead on Newcastle's relegation fight, not their owners.

He said: "I'm here to manage the football team and coach the football team.

"I'm well aware of what's going on around the world.

I'm so happy that the Fabulous Mrs. Mis. Hum. isn't into current fashion trends.

Dressing for Men Is Out. Dressing “Like a Lesbian” Is In.
According to Jill Gutowitz, "sapphic style" has taken over mainstream women's fashion

You may have noticed that everyone seems to be dressing like a lesbian these days, and by everyone, I mean even — and perhaps especially — straight-identifying or otherwise hetero-presenting women.

From the baggy, loose-fitting silhouettes that have replaced the skinny jeans of yore to the practical footwear that has taken over since women (reportedly) ditched their heels in the pandemic, the most popular mainstream women’s fashion trends of the day all reflect a certain sapphic influence. And androgynous style isn’t just for ordinary women reluctant to return to their pre-pandemic uniform of skin-tight pants and sky-high heels; from queer icons like Kristen Stewart to supermodels like Gigi Hadid, androgynous fashion has taken over Hollywood as well. Traditionally straight-presenting A-listers like Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid — icons of conventional female attractiveness as dictated by the male gaze — have been photographed rocking the lesbian-chic aesthetic, sporting power suits, designer loafers and oversize everything.

I guess that explains one of the check out gals this afternoon. Buzz cut, Vince Lombardi glasses and more ink than yours truly. Not attractive.

If you are the head of this BLM organization you can allegedly say, Black Lives Money matters to me.

Monica Cannon-Grant, a Black Lives Matter (BLM) leader in Boston, and her husband, Clark Grant, were hit with an 18-page federal indictment for fraud and conspiracy on Tuesday.

Federal authorities allege that Cannon-Grant and Grant have defrauded a large sum of donor dollars out of over $1 million in grants and donations given to their nonprofit, Violence in Boston, which aims to help violence survivors in the city.

Cannon-Grant, a prominent BLM organizer, was arrested outside of her Beantown home Tuesday and declined to comment at the courthouse after being released on personal recognizance, meaning she'll remain free without bail but with a written promise to appear in court.

18 page indictment and a signature bond? Sweet deal. I bet that's what Roger Stone thinks.

If I told the Mis. Hum. tax exemptions once, I told them 1,000 times. For every action in nature there is an equal and opposite reaction. This is one of those times.

Tesla has a complicated relationship with customers who pay to test the beta version of its “Full Sell Driving” software. Often, these people are diehard fans, keen to promote the company’s prowess and show off its new driver assist features. Sometimes, though, they overshare — posting videos that show exactly when and how Tesla’s software gets it wrong.

When the person sharing these clips also works for Tesla, things are even more complicated. John Bernal, a former Tesla employee who reviewed the company’s FSD Beta software on his YouTube channel AI Addict says he was fired by the company last month after posting a video that showed his Tesla hitting a bollard.

The words, "Here, hold my beer!" were not heard. Genius Award Winner.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fl. — Police in Daytona Beach released video Monday of a motorcycle crash that shut down a drawbridge over the weekend.

According to police, the crash happened around 10 a.m. Saturday when a motorcyclist ran through one of the traffic arms as it was lowering for the bridge to rise.

A second Genius Award Winner.

A wild video has emerged out of Cambridge, Ontario, showing four minutes of complete chaos beginning with a two-car collision and concluding with a confused naked man pinned junk-down in the snow by firefighters.

The incident occurred on Saturday in the area of Jamieson Parkway and Lardner Street, captured by a Hespeler man's home security system. The nature of the impact becomes a bit clearer when a completely naked dude emerges from the white Volkswagen Tiguan SUV, fumbling to cover himself with a towel as he stumbles dazed from the scene.

And if you can believe it, the situation only got stranger from there.

Keep your stick on the ice...............

Neither snow blah, blah, blah will stop appointed rounds or something like that. Tonight's Feel Good Story of The Day.

Terri Halliday is a disabled U.S. military veteran who lives in the 8th Ward. On Saturday, her home alert system announced movement outside of her front door.

"I began watching on my phone, and I saw a mail delivery truck," she told the Tribune-Democrat. "The next thing I know, I see him coming up my steps with a snow shovel."

Halliday, who has had one leg amputated, had left the shovel near her door so that she can access it to clear her deck. She can't shovel the steps, however.

"He shoveled all the steps and cleared off my front deck. I was shocked but grateful," she said.

Halliday said they had never spoken to each other before, aside from a quick hello once or twice when she was at the end of her driveway in her power chair

First, MiladyJo and I are going to watch the final (in production order) Star Trek, where Shat gets to show off his feminine side. Trek season 3 really did not deserve a season 4, sad to say.

Meanwhile, a new little graphic webwork. If you're happy with the government mandating eternal DBST for all states, don't click on the nic.

Later, g8rs.

Paint finishes were less precisely applied, but far more long lasting, in the days of hand-sprayed and multi-layer sanded lacquers. I think some of the most flawless paint ever, was on early to mid-'70s Honda Motorcycle gas tanks and sidecovers.

252 I have an internet friend in Belarus. She contacted me because she saw a picture of my German Shepherd on my blog. She had rescued a blind GSD from the streets and he looked like my dog. People couldn't afford to feed their dogs and had to just turn them loose.

She seemed like a decent person. Married with a teenage boy and girl, worked in IT. She mentioned that the daughter needed a swimsuit, so I sent a couple, fairly modest. She managed to have a friend bring a package for me to the US. It had a woven tea set (napkins and a runner for the teapot). And a doll that I think is made of flax. She did send me a Christmas card a few years later with pictures of her family. I find it hard to hate the people in Belarus, although I'm sure that will be demanded of us.

266 I'm getting less and less confident that our national leadership embarrassment will be able to solve this shitshow without at least a few atoms being split.

If you want to be terrified, Jim Geraghty of National Review (I know, I know) passes on some escalation scenarios the FSB is allegedly preparing for Putin.

https://twitter.com/igorsushko/
status/1503668403030044680

I would have thought that these scenarios are impossible, but I thought a month ago that it was impossible that Putin would blitz all of Ukraine.

Who knows what he is capable of at this point?

Not really. Denny's is Denny's. WH is sort of like eating at a family's kitchen. You can't help being intimately involved with understanding what is going on with the servers' lives. Lots of bad jokes, good natured shit being tossed about and a great deal of caring among the regulars.

It is wildly entertaining and the food is good. I always tip big. Those gals really need it.

307 Biden calling Putin a war criminal was not helpful

The "international community" spent a lot of time defining certain actions, outside of war itself, as "war crimes" - to get people to not do them.

If we treat anyone that starts a war for any reason a war criminal, all that effort has been thrown away.

Gonna find one of the Eotech clone type sights, and just go with one of those. Holosun, most likely, for price, performance & reputation. I doubt if this "house gun" will see more than 500 rounds in it's entire existence, it's job in life will be to sit at the ready behind the bedroom drapes, with electronic earmuffs resting over the front objective lens. Dust cover *and* instant grab to ear-pro, at the ready.

318 Gonna find one of the Eotech clone type sights, and just go with one of those. Holosun, most likely, for price, performance & reputation. I doubt if this "house gun" will see more than 500 rounds in it's entire existence, it's job in life will be to sit at the ready behind the bedroom drapes, with electronic earmuffs resting over the front objective lens. Dust cover *and* instant grab to ear-pro, at the ready.

read through that twitter thread by Sushko, interesting to get some kind of view into what the Russians may be thinking. That spineless gutless woman is my representative. I suspected she was a bit of a squish in 2020. But she has turned out to be horrible. I had the choice of voting for her (and she presented herself as a stronger conservative then) or letting the incumbent Donna Shalala win. I suspect most people in her district (older Cuban Americans) are disgusted with her because of her support for amnesty and complete lack of knowledge in international matters. Unfortunately the district is also full of Karens and their soy boy toys.

I presume one of the two following scenarios

1) Russia will attack Ukrainian supply shipments outside of the theater.

I used to listen to people talk about their rights (part of a job) and I would start changing the language by calling them "obligations" owed.

"these are not rights, but they are obligations to you as an employee . . . "

violated rights go to the supreme court to validate their existence in a constitutional society, violated obligations under implied contract go to small claims.

But the bricks would be yellow-ish, or red-ish.

It was the fact that we never saw a post-Revolutionary brick wall that was laid straight that amazed us. And we looked. It became a thing in the first week there. Some of us made it a point to check for recent, straight brick walls for the next few months. Nope. Only pre-Revolutionary buildings were built right. It was like I had been laying the bricks. Ridiculous.

As we walked from our plane, between the painted lines, at Sheremyetyevo, there were young uncomfortable looking uniformed (ill-fitting uniforms) KGB border guard guys (black shoulder-boards) every 20 feet or so. Literally the moment we got inside the terminal, one of the group, who was quite a character, turned around and said "we're afraid of THESE guys???". That sort of set the tone.

you remind me how amazing it was to be able to visit England and see some of the old places. We were in a rural area, touring a magnificent old Cathedral, in the town surrounding there were these marvelous stone walls running for miles, 8 feet tall, 2 feet thick, absolutely perfect. We asked the local guides and they replied "oh yes, those were all built by Bishop Leicester in the 1400's; and you'll see the stonework is a little different in the top 2 feet. That part was added by Bishop Newcome during the reign of Elizabeth 1; and they've stood unchanged ever since." The people there take them for granted; they're just part of the landscape now.

Authors Tom Holland* and Dominic Sandbrook deliver some very fun history along with many authors of new works on various and sundry topics. Absolutely outstanding work by these two gents.

*Author of "Dominion", about Christian influence over world culture in the last 2000 years, "Persian Fire", about the Persian Empire, "Rubicon", about Rome's fall from Republic to Empire, and "In The Shadow Of The Sword", about Islam's rise.

Holland is an atheist/agnostic who visited a Yazidi village in Northern Iraq that had barely survived ISIS's depredations, including mass crucifixions of Yazidi men and boys. He was struck by how in the West, the cross is a symbol of victory whereas in Islam it is still an instrument of torture as it was in Rome. That led him to investigate and write about how Christian outlooks and thoughts underlie so much of Western culture, even things that are not considered Christian or even religious. Hence his latest book Dominion. Fantastic author who is NOT Spiderman.

Something else off is why, and why now, did Putin invade? The IC usually just lies or gets things wrong, but they were eerily accurate about an invasion about to occur. It was beyond observation. Me: First, MiladyJo and I are going to watch the final (in production order) Star Trek, where Shat gets to show off his feminine side. Trek season 3 really did not deserve a season 4, sad to say."
Tom Servo: what a pathetic episode for TOS to end on, that one always made me cringe. Although I favor TOS over NextGen, I gotta applaud NextGen for the way they ended it - the two part "All Good Things" episode was one of the best series ending pieces done in any genre. I rate best ending of all as FarScape, with the miniseries "Peacekeeper Wars". Wrapped almost almost every loose end of the entire series, and did it well.

TNG and FarScape: Peacekeeper - two series that we never watched the end of ... (of which..? anyway. If Kirk can split an infinitive, I can dangle a participle.) Also never watched the end of B5.

If I can't get to everything in this life, can we watch re-runs in the afterlife? (Beats standing on clouds and strumming lyres?)

We followed Trek with re-watching Resident Alien 4-5 - have to re-watch 6 & 7 before season finale that ran tonight. RA blows me awaaaaay. Wait, am I still up? 'night.

Ukrainian Nazi varies from nonsense to irrelevant? Huh.

Ukraine has a rather complicated history with Russia/The Soviet Union. Kyiv (or however the fuck they're spelling it now) is the spiritual home of the Rus who became, well, Russia. The Ukraine was very much a part of Russia for a long time. When the Soviets took over, a lot of 'independent' republics were created, including The Ukraine. Stalin's forced famine in the Ukraine in the 1920s-early 30s led to many Ukrainians welcoming the Wehrmacht as liberating heroes. Of course, the Nazis couldn't stop being Nazis and quickly ruined that good will. But there were quite a few Ukrainians who, either willingly or forced, took part in the Holocaust, being shooters at the pits or guards in the extermination camps. Ukrainian Nazis were -- and are -- a real thing.

634 Both the West and the communists used fascists and Nazis for their purposes after WWII. In Western Germany some became respectable people and their past was forgotten for a while, in Eastern Germany some became Stasi agents and informers.
In my country, Romania, the communists initially accepted former fascists in their ranks to rapidly increase their numbers, no questions asked, while the West sent agents to organize the anti-communist resistance in the mountains and some of them, but not all, were fascists.
Nowadays, there are neo-Nazis both in Ukraine and in Russia. Ukraine finds them useful to fight in their war, while the ones in Russia are useful to Putin, even in the occupation of Donbas, which he wanted carried out by "volunteers", with as little official involvement as possible.
It's unfortunate that this happens, but the West is not alone to blame. Putin, like his Soviet predecessors (and like communists) calls all his enemies Nazis. Some are, some are not, and in the meantime there are neo-Nazis on his side as well. There were neo-Nazi preparation camps in Russia and they were definitely not organized by the CIA.

635 Lies, damn lies, and statista! The point to draw out from those numbers of police homicides is that Hispanics make up twice the population of Black's yet still account for half as many deaths in police custody, for lack of a better term. Maybe all cops are Latin(x)?

636 624 Gentlemen. Not one of you said:

'Rectum? Nearly killed 'em!'

For shame. Good day, sir.
