Former Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisors: "We Now Believe the Chances of a Recession, Starting in the Second Quarter of 2022, Have Risen to 60%"

OUT: Barack Obama's third term.

IN: Jimmy Carter's second term.

The Former Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisors told Maria Bartiromo that he thinks the GDP for the first quarter is going to come in at near zero or just below it, which sets up the likelihood of meeting the definition of "two quarters of zero or negative grown in a row" of a recession in the second quarter.

So we're looking down both barrels, one barrel loaded with "recession and contraction," the other loaded with "skyrocketing inflation."

Should be fun.

Former Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers Kevin Hassett warned on Thursday that inflation is "out of control" at a time when the economy "is headed towards a recession."

...

Hassett noted on Thursday, shortly after the release of the [new report on a record 7.9% year-over-year inflation], that "wages aren't keeping up with prices," which means "real incomes are going down."

He warned that the next CPI report will reflect "way worse" data.

"The really, really big price spikes started to happen in March," Hassett told host Maria Bartiromo on Thursday.

Ukraine is a leading exporter of corn. They plainly will not have much, if any, of an export harvest next year. They're also huge exporters of wheat; Russia and Ukraine together produce one third of the world's wheat.

The disruption in two absolute bedrock commodities will convulse the global economy.

Hassett went on to point out that "all that kind of stuff is going to make the March number way, way worse" than the February data.

"The Fed hasn't even started tightening yet and we've got this runaway inflation and a weakening economy," he said, adding that he believes "first quarter GDP [gross domestic product] is looking like it's going to be negative."

A recession refers to a contraction in GDP activity, or economic output, for two consecutive quarters.

Hassett argued that one reason why he believes "the odds of recession are getting above 50%, is that you got a couple negative quarters in a row, then you 're in a recession and the first quarter is low enough right now, in the real-time data that we have, that it's plausibly negative or at least really close to zero and so that's like the first half of the start of a recession."

As he mentioned, the Fed is considering raising interest rates to combat Brandon's runway inflation which will reduce whatever growth the economy is managing.

Brandon has left us with nothing but terrible choices. And I'm pretty sure he'll wind up choosing all terrible choices simultaneously.

Well-played, NeverTrump.

And all so you could crawl your way back to influence and TV gigs! My, what statesmen and patriots you all are!

Update: Biden is "sick" of economists claiming that inflation is caused by an increase in the supply of money chasing a static amount of goods. That's Voodoo Economics!

Hey, Brandon -- Start pressuring your illegal, captive Social Media Monopolies to censor and deplatform anyone spreading the Russian Disinformation that the value of money is determined, as the value of all things are, by the iron law of supply and demand.

Maybe get National Review to start writing Editorials supporting this newest censorship campaign ordered up by the government.

If you're claiming Brandon's repeated rounds of trillion plus "stimulus" had anything to do with devaluing the dollar, You're Driving With Putin!

Speaking of, is anyone at National Review ever going to condemn their fellow neocon-turned-Democrat Bill Kristol for constantly conspiring with the left to get the right deplatformed?

Screenshot (1724).png

Or does National Review only police the right now?

20 My Review of Lord of the Rings
by Kamala Harris

You see the thing to remember here is that there's these rings. And rings are important. It's important to have rings because that means it's something you can be lord of. So when you have a lord of the rings, that's somebody who can do a lot of things because the rings let you do a lot when you have them. Being a lord has a lot of responsibility to it. What you need to remember is that you can't just pretend you don't have these rings or that you're not a lord. You have to do things with them. Important things. Because when you're a lord, that's what you do. {cackle}

That's when failure theater can be useful. They pass bills called "The Save Our Economy Act of 2023" that Biden vetoes because it includes a single line about not allowing federal funds to murder babies, and there's your messaging.

The "party in power" is always perceived of as the one holding the presidency. An economic downturn in 2023-2024 is more likely to hurt Biden and Democrats than Republicans holding Congress.

Public tech valuations crash(already happened), impacting private tech valuations(in the process of happening).

This leads to a slowdown in the tech sector, a lot of which is simply making new tech companies and selling them(reminiscent of the 90s).

This in turn causes a general economic slowdown.

83 My new way to eat what I'd go out to eat and pay $20/each for now is to make sushi roll bowls.

I can take a frozen eel, cook it, and make an eel roll bowl (4 of them from one 9 oz eel) or a 3oz pack of salmon and make 2 salmon roll bowls.

Cucumbers, avocado, lettuce, and green onions chopped and added to a 1/2 bag of microwavable rice per person and the mentioned fish (about 1.5-2oz/person). Do a 50/50 hoison and soy sauce mix and drizzle 1-2 coffee spoon amounts on top.

My kids and spouse think these are amazing, and I feed them for $20 OOPS, what would cost me $100 at the restaurant...so it's a splurge without being a bankrupter...and it doesn't take me much work...

No allergies. I LIKE what most would call junk food but if I get hungry I will of course eat anything. Also I'm thinking I could trade some of my stuff for someone elses stuff. For example: I have some sealed up tobacco even though I don't smoke anymore. I think I could trade that.

112 There are two major and likely events that could make this recession much, much worse.

1) KSA decides to resolve all oil contracts based on whatever currency the buyer likes. If they're feeling particularly shirty about Khasoggy's boyfriends, they'll stop taking US currency entirely. That's the end of the petrodollar and likely causing economic collapse.

2) China decides that a ton of American currency held abroad is too much of a risk and starts cutting imports to America. Think social unrest is bad now? Wait until you can't buy diapers. Worried about inflation? What do you think will happen when you can't get tools from China? America is having its feet bound, likely on orders from the CCP. They don't have to do much to cause a depression, but total economic warfare is likely to collapse the USA entirely.

So, you might want brick cheeses (parm works, but other bricks will keep a few months), cream cheese, butter, avocados or container guacamole, salsa (the salsa shelf-stable, but eventually it will be open), pickles (same as salsa), the condiments (shelf-stable, but will open - mayo, ketchup, mustard, BBQ sauce, a jam, etc), long-term fruits and veg (citrus, apples, squashes, the avocados, carrots, etc), yogurts if you eat them.

Plant-based milk last 2 months or so, but I doubt you want that...duck fat and jarred garlic is in my fridge, and is great - shelf-stable til you open it. Kimchi is also in my fridge - that's last a while, but will continue to ferment...

Staples like flour, eggs, etc. In general, you want staples that you can turn into food that you like. Rice keeps well, is simple to make with boiling, and goes well with many foods.

But listen: it is likely way too late to start serious survival prep. Do what you can, but the first priority is to eat the foods you plan to stock up on, right the hell now. A month into tribulation is a hell of a time to realize that you can't possibly eat another jam sandwich like you've been doing for weeks.

2-5-2021 -- Last year, the World Economic Forum teamed up with the Russian government and global banks to run a high-profile cyberattack simulation that targeted the financial industry, an actual event that would pave the way for a "reset" of the global economy. The simulation, named Cyber Polygon, may have been more than a typical planning exercise and bears similarities to the WEF-sponsored pandemic simulation Event 201 that briefly preceded the COVID-19 crisis.

New economic systems that are digitally based and either partnered with or run by central banks are a key part of the WEF's Great Reset. . . Yet, to usher in this new and radically different system, the current corrupt system must somehow collapse in its entirety, and its replacement must be successfully marketed to the masses as somehow better than its predecessor. When the world's most powerful people, such as members of the WEF, desire to make radical changes, crises conveniently emerge -- whether a war, a plague, or economic collapse -- that enable a "reset" of the system, which is frequently accompanied by a massive upward transfer of wealth.

210 The Former Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisors told Maria Bartiromo that he thinks the GDP for the first quarter is going to come in at near zero or just below it, which sets up the likelihood of meeting the definition of "two quarters of zero or negative grown in a row" of a recession in the second quarter.
++++
But record Q4 economic growth!!!! OMG!!!!

Yeah, almost entirely on inventory build. The internals of the Q4 GDP print were not great and a decline in Q1 was expected by anyone paying attention. If Q1 growth comes in negative - which I think they will jockey around to try to put up 0.5% positive or so and blame Putin - it is a massive failure because it also implies that, sans inventory, Q4 was probably also flat or negative. Repeating the feat in Q2 will not play well in November.

It's clear they'll blame Vlad for it this quarter, and talk about how low (or possibly negative) growth is transient because of the war, and that happy days are here again. I wonder what they'll blame it on in Q2.

In a town near us, is an Amish family run meat store. Meaning, they sell fresh meat (and some other stuff, baked goods) that is locally slaughtered and processed. Most of the meat you buy in supermarkets may or may not be local, depending of course, if you live near big slaugherhouses (corporate size), as beef, chicken, pork likely all come out of those.
This is an interesting place, because normally they are a little more expensive than Kroger's, etc., but now they are pretty comparable, and I think their supply is a lot more secure.

In other words, It's a communications problem! The dullards aren't buying our current lies for some reason, so we need to tell them some dumbed-down, yet better lies, about massive Fed spending not causing inflation!

Every failure by the plebs to understand what's good for them is not a problem with what they're shoving down the plebs throats, it's a failure of communications about the latest Five-Year Plan!

It's amazing that the Dems have so many problems communicating their message to the plebs, when the Democrats have access to the (supposedly) best communications professionals in the world - on Madison Avenue and in Hollywood.

------
I think a big reason for Bush's behavior, from kissing Obama's ass to going #NeverTrump, is basically this, but a little different. Not so much hanging on to that delusion. He knows that he destroyed the GOP and severely damaged the US, and that he is hated by virtually everyone in the country he led.

And that, consequently, the Democrats hold permanent power, and will write the history books. So, if he kisses enough Commie ass, and trashes on their current fake-o "enemies" in the GOP, maybe they'll be kind to him after he's dead.

EMP effects are real, but they are also highly unpredictable.
A lot of what we "think" we know came about as an after effect of an atmospheric test in the S. Pacific and some power outages in Hawaii back in the 1950's. The military works on hardening and testing aircraft to EMP, because they might be flying in a harsh environment. But I dunno about basing a war strategy on something that is pretty iffy.
