I've been ignoring mask mandate here in California. Strolling into stores maskless (as I've seen other people doing the same) lots of people don't seems to care anymore. Unless a store employee request I wear a mask then I'll wear it under my nose or chin. Lots of store employees don't bother to wear a mask as well.

No masks, no vaccine or strange behavior. The only precautions we've taken are those we use for the flu season each year.
Both of us contracted covid and recovered. We are in the age bracket that is most dangerous in terms of mortality. I don't wish to have this again, it was like a really bad flu, the only meds taken were Mucinex and Claritin plus a course of Prednisone.

Did you see Biden's Sec. of Education tweeted out one of the great things about teaching was seeing children smile (yes, he did!) and promptly got ten million pictures of kids in masks and snarky comments about "how can you tell?" This is all politics 101, and they completely suck at it. If the GOP does take Congress this year, it won't be because they are great (as we all know, they are idiots) but because the Biden people are just so freaking bad. Any one with sense, in late Jan/early Feb when Omicron died down, would have declared victory and moved on, it's just nuts.

There was some Asian guy recently -- school administrator or some such -- who was talking about how even though masks were useless for kids, it was good practice for toddlers to wear them so they'll be more compliant when they get to grade school.

I've been walking by those signs unmasked for at least 6 months here in Central CA. Granted, I've made exceptions for hospitals and my doc's office. Haven't had any confrontations or pissy comments. Most I've gotten is a couple of dirty looks.
Of course, this is Fresno County, which you could largely transplant into rural Texas and have virtually no culture shock, other than the accents.

You know, that is a damned good idea. I've stopped going into local stores because the governor punted and left it up to towns, and all of the Karen infested towns in this county voted mandates in. I figured not buying anything local was the best I could do, but this is much better. This is a direct in your face "you lost my sale", that eventually will get back to the local select boards, particularly if they start to notice the decrease in the local option sales tax. Only flaw in the plan is that I'm in the approximately 2% of the population around these parts that thinks this way.

I am seeing a lot of that lately. But these aren't casual maskers, they have custom made masks with logos on them and stuff. You can tell the difference between someone who got a crappy paper mask because they were forced to by the store and someone who brings their own special version they cling to like a security blanket.

Ellipses, it has to do with difference in short term and long term opinions. Operant conditioning experiments by Skinner and the like on animals, found you can create long lasting behavioral patterns if you carefully set the stimuli correctly. The problem though is when you want to change long lasting behavioral patterns by adding new stimuli. A lot harder to do in a directed manner than to create a preference in the first place. From what I remember, the stimuli trying to create new patterns to replace the old results in breaking a certain number of subjects.
One of the chimp astronaut was thoroughly conditioned to do tasks by getting rewards via food for right actions and shocks for wrong actions. In space, something got fouled up and the chimp was getting shocks randomly regardless of correct or incorrect behavior. The chimp went nuts and destroyed the cabin-even pulling out his catheter painfully.

Well it comes down to human psychology. Its a lot harder to get someone to stop doing something done out of fear and superstition than it is to get them started doing it.
For them, its a sign of their virtue and goodness, its an easy way to seem righteous and sacrificing without any actual right doing or sacrifice.

Yep, there was never any legit science that said masks prevent people from getting/transmitting the virus.
In fact, scientists who can measure things have known all along that the tiny virus was small enough to penetrate through the openings in the weaves of all the cloth and paper masks, even when the masks were worn correctly, which they seldom were.
But the governments kept insisting on the masks because they enjoyed the exercise of power, and the Karens kept insisting on the masks because they needed to feel that something was being done to protect them from this thing that scared them so. It didn't matter that masks don't actually provide protection. It was the illusion of security that mattered to them. They needed masks for the same reason that Linus always needed his dirty baby blanket.

I think it bears remembering that in our real world example we are talking about higher order animals (barely) that havent been programmed through *direct* stimulation. They have been guided and cajoled through tried and true misdismal methods.
They, like all humans, have an immense ability to rationalize, and that is what will be exploited as they are encouraged to adapt to whatever the next thing is, whether it's horn honkers or plastic straws.
What has been revealed more than anything in these subjects is a willingness to follow authority without question, and to then to eventually substitute oneself for that authority when allowed - which is as big a dopamine hit as any monkey treat.

Dad once told me that way back when, Dad worked for one of the papers and this older guy used to come in to get used linotype slugs to mail back. The Post Office contacted they guy to him to tell him to knock it off because it kept jamming their equipment, so he started gluing them to pieces of 2x4s.

Yeah, it just looks good on film. Usually means the person is very small as well, which is why most actors are itty. Your head is pretty set in its size, not a lot of variations unless you're taking Prednisone or something like that. So your body can be smaller than someone else, but looks big in comparison. The ozone hole actually did go away and the ozone layer's back to nominal thickness. There's some debate as to if the CFC ban had anything to do with it though, and its value as a scare went away once they'd mandated replacement chemicals that du Pont owned the patents on.

True to some extent (my definition of clinically insane is likely much more stringent than most) -- and it's 99% among so-called "leaders."
It's beyond mere ignorance and irrational fear for the vast majority of the world to allow themselves to be injected, and multiple times at that, with a non-clinically-trialed and studied over time experimental "vaccine" (primarily a new gene therapy) -- for a virus which had virtually zero mortality rate among those without comorbidities. That degree of perverting self-preservation is insane ...
