Weird. "I trust the science" has been the go-to moral response to questioning CDC policy. Now we're told the science can change. Are we still not allowed to question CDC policy?

It's a simple, basic point -- so basic that even Bill Maher has tumbled on to it.

Whenever these guys are caught being wrong, for the hundredth time, they claim, "Well, science is an inexact science, you know. Science changes and we learn more."

They say that retrospectively, looking backwards, to explain away their errors.

But what do they say in the moment? In the all-important vital present?

In the present, in the Fierce Urgency of Now -- when we could, hypothetically, debate and change policies -- they insist that the science is absolutely settled and foolproof and beyond any question or quibble.

Futhermore, they literally organize smear campaigns with their leftwing media allies to brand anyone disagreeing with the unchangeable and eternal One True Science as "fringe" "conspiracy theorists" spreading baseless "dangerous disinformation."

This "dangerous disinformation" is accused of being of such a profoundly false and wholly baseless nature that it must not only be denounced as if it were blasphemy but driven from the public debate by authoritarian means such as censorship, deplatforming, and imposing professional penalties against those who speak these heresies.

And then a year later they go, "Oh well sure, we got another one wrong, but science is more art than science, yannow?"

So when you ask questions or dispute them, they brand you a conspiracy theorist and lobby media monopolists to censor you as spreading "disinformation."

Then when it turns out they were wrong -- again -- they just shrug and say, "Oh science is always changing and we're always learning more and we're often wrong. Everyone knows that. What, did you think it was magic where we could guarantee success??!!"

Well yes, we did think that -- you claimed that, both implicitly and sometimes explicitly ("I AM SCIENCE"), when you smeared anyone who claimed you were wrong as "anti-science" and spreading "dangerous disinformation" and "conspiracy theories."

When what they were really doing was proposing an alternative interpretation of sketchy, incomplete data open to numerous fair and defensible interpretations.

An alternative interpretation just as likely to be right -- more likely, in fact -- than your stupid theories (which you keep presenting, in the moment, as proven facts).

Incredible. Incredible.

And that last piece is essentially correct. "The science is settled" is never, ever true. The statement is internally impossible.

But this exact progression is very real, and it is why - whether it's "climate science" or "COVID science" or "medical science" or anything else - science is dead. It doesn't exist anymore. It's all just various arms of the propaganda machine.

I even asked him what level of evidence would he accept to refute the idea that masks prevent COVID transmission. He never answered the question, though did at least concede that it was at least possible. He still wears a mask quite a bit.

A lot of them will get better. I have said before, and I think I'm approximately correct, that looking at it broadly there are probably 15% of people still COVID-panicked and they look totally broken. As the policies shift around the broader preference cascade, though, probably 2/3 of them will grudgingly get over it and be back to more or less normal within a year. The remainder - probably 5% or so, but *all* of them hardcore Dem base types - are permanently broken and will never recover.

148 Sjogren's is an immune disorder. A lot of those with lupus have sjogren's as sort of a part of lupus, a few people just have sjogrens. I'm not a doctor. But apparently they *knew* that sjogren's sufferers would *absolutely* have adverse effects from the vaccine, and they didn't want that to show up in the trials.

So they excluded sjogren's from the trial, and only sjogren's, according to this rheumatologist/virologist. You didn't have to be healthy really to be in the trial, they took all sorts of pre-existing stuff, just not sjogrens.

And its not like they have then told people with sjogrens not to take the vax, or even allowed a medical exemption for it if you were fortunate enough to have a doctor who was on the ball about this and could warn you not to take it.

This effort is much more thoughtful, drawn out, and helped by the reality that omicron is the end of anything like covid being a pandemic. A lot of the covidiocy is simply media created, using the psychological tools they've developed over decades to get people addicted to fear. They can replace one fear with another in most of these people.

But...there will be holdouts. Their problem is that these holdouts seem to have a super special place in the hearts and minds of media movers and shakers, Democratic decision makers, and Twitter. Their influence has been oversized for a very, very long time.

In skiing, usually only the 1st 30 have a shot, and most of the favorites go between #5-15 - late enough they can have a few people give them strategy for the conditions of the course that instant, early enough the course doesn't get wrecked and "go slow" - it is a huge surprise when a late skiier cracks the top 3. It has happened, even at the Olympics, but it tends to be shocking to the sport...

We also already know the vaccines weren't particularly effective, because they did not prevent transmission of the virus, and the protection they provided from infection lasted only a few months, at best. But the government relentlessly pushed the vaccines on everybody, regardless. That was stupid and irresponsible.

I do get bored. I used to exercise until i was in great shape then get bored because minimal gains and stop. For like a year. Then start all over again. The bike has kept me interested a lot longer than anything else I've done. Notice -- I am not claiming that I am not weird. Just not a fat slob.

Maybe I'll be able to restart my membership. I got a bike in 2016 (about) and really loved it -- so much easier to do at home than the gym where Spin classes have schedules, etc. With Peleton you pay a membership and can go to "live" classes or you can choose taped.

But during the 2020 BLM riots I got an email from Peleton full of BLM propaganda and what they, as a company, were doing to support the "movement." Look they're based in NY so I expect them to be a bunch of dumb commies, but to use your client list to push this crap? F** You!

I obviously couldn't return the bike at that point, but I could -- and did -- cancel my membership, which is/was around $45 a month. (You have to pay the membership to access the classes).

I've been meaning to sell the bike but never bothered.

There's some speculation that the covid was built to do exactly this; weaken/destroy the immune system.

It is a known factor in warfare that it is better to wound a soldier than kill them. A dead soldier is dead and counts as one where as a wounded soldier will take 1 or more other trained people to take care of them. Move them to the rear. Heal them and provide for them while doing so thus reducing the enemies numbers on the field.

But dumb people don't know they sound dumb, to them, saying "I follow The Science" sounds smart. Ace has this exactly right: "The Science" doesn't change. Our understanding changes. But that's not what they say when they demand we bow down to their whims. It doesn't sound quiet as urgent and compelling when they say "well, our current limited understand is consistent with the possibility of masks being able to mitigate spread." It's easier and sounds way cooler to say "FOLLOW THE SCIENCE!!!"

I have a stationary bike. I use it. If you cannot pedal a bicycle unless someone is remotely screaming at you, you are weird.

Spin is different from just being on a stationary bike. Different classes offer different styles -- Interval training, etc. I like that I can just ride and listen to when to increase/decrease tension/speed to maximize benefits in shorter amount of time.

Yeah, this is a problem. There is a political flavor to it, although there is a Trump crowd in the audience. To get around that, I started following a female instructor who is German. She's ridiculously cheerful and hot and I can't understand a thing she saying, except I know she is really really enthusiastically telling me to go faster FASTER FASTER!!

So yeah. Interesting.

561 They got beyond the number where this will self perpetuate. By that I mean that the governments will have to take certain steps now no matter whether they were in on the original conspiracy or not.

The ones who were not are tossing it all off and going on to a wait and see attitude rather than waste any time or good will on forcing people to do what they'll have to do eventually anyway. No they won't have to take the vaxx. Maybe. It depends but if the mutations increase some drug will come to the forefront that cures or relieves the symptoms and it will be the government with corporate that will control who gets it and why.

We're not headed into some slightly chaotic period where governments get together and form a single entity. This will be much more confused with a lot less ability on anyone's part to see what is happening and what will happen.
