Patience, my friend! When I adopted my cat Jasmine, I already had a cat (Penny) at home. It took *months* before Jasmine would really become very approachable. She kept her distance from me and Penny for quite some time. I'd find her under chairs, in the closet, and she even found a way to climb into the drawers of my tv table. Now she hangs out with me all the time and she and Penny are the best of friends. It just takes time!

The oddest part of this? In the drill they ran, which was basically a perfect dry run for COVID, they did all the things that the drill called for, and it failed in the same ways the drill spelled out.

The one question that I have is there is one person who could have said this plainly, and a long time ago. Mike Flynn was fired because he 'lied' to Pence. This is why the Canadian truckers have so much power. Virtually *everything* in Canada is dependent on keeping the trucks rolling along. When that stops, the country grinds to a halt (in the wintertime, no less). People WILL start dying eventually. Then the leaders will have real problems on their hands as the people demand they do something. But they can't kill all of the truckers and they don't have the resources to manage the logistical supply chains on their own. It's a first-world country falling apart in real time.

Shit. I know of no batteries that use barium salts to function. Barium sulfate is used in "Barium Cocktails" to prep for GI X-rays. The stuff has approximately Zero solubility in water, which is why it is quite safe to drink. Barium chloride, on the other hand, is quite soluble, and very toxic, as are most soluble heavy metal salts.

My younger sister died a few years ago at 63 from metastasizing cancers that started as melanoma. Passing the time with her a few months before, I said something about her not spending a lot of time in the sun as far as I knew (she lived in Chicago) and asked what kind of melanoma it started as. She blushed and said "Uh, it was, uh . . . vulvar." I was so embarrassed I tried to joke my way out of it by saying "Oh . . . . You're not a nudist AND a contortionist, are you? The border crossing in Coutts Alberta was closed by the truckers. The truckers reopened it almost a week ago.
But the RCMP has shut down all the roads leading to Coutts at the Milk River. There a few dozen trucks in Coutts. North of the Milk River RCMP Roadblock, there are hundreds of trucks, tractors and cars encamped, blockading the RCMP Blockade.
None of this is violent. None of this is illegal. It is all legal civil protest.

Sports require objective scoring . Competitions are subjective scoring. Games are skill based rather than athletic based. Some are a combination like boxing.

Sport doesn't mean they aren't athletes. And it doesn't mean their sport isn't one.
Just speaking for myself here, but part of the frustration for me in judged events is not having an eye for the judges criteria, so I see one thing and think "Great" and another and think "Meh" and "Meh" wins.
That and given the level of corruption in any international body, it's hard to watch and assume the event isn't fixed (like the French ice dancers several games ago).
As opposed to something like biathalon, where you can watch and say 'Yeah that guy missed too many times, so the other guy was first across the line and it's obvious to everyone.'

Dr. Claw, it has long been my belief that the GOPe has been playing voting fraud games in GOP primaries, overtly or covertly, for decades.
Not one GOP Sec of State seems to have any problem ignoring cleaning up voter rolls to get rid of dead, moved, or non-existent voter registrants. Note that both Ohio and Florida cleaned their voting rolls and Trump and GOP did well in both. Arizona, Georgia, etc. have not among others. Regardless of Dominion, the mass of bad ballots came from floaters (non-existent voters or voting on behalf of non-voters) collected by ballot harvesting in the six states where the people collecting those ballots were paid big bucks.
In each of the six swing states, the Dems had real time information on who was voting from the voting history files and when they needed to on election night, they dropped the huge number of ballots in the name of non-existent registrants and people registered but had not cast a ballot (or moved out of state, etc.).

There may be some precedent for what could happen in Ottawa. Remember the "Bonus Army" of protesting WWI vets that gathered in Washington in 1932. These were out of work vets for the most part.
Herbert Hoover eventually ordered them to be cleared out by force. Douglas MacArthur lead a contingent of troops with tanks that drove them out. They then burned all the belongings of the vets.

That is a fair question. I think the judging is mostly based upon the number of blows landed, so supposedly objective. But I could be wrong. A knockout is scored if the guy goes down for a ten-count, so that is pretty much objective.

If you read the history of the events of the Bonus Army in Washington, it started out pretty much like Truckistan now. The vets were camped out all over, and they let them stay. Some advocated just let them stay until they got tired and went home. But others wanted to run them out. Including Hoover.
They started getting rough with them a little bit, and then some cops shot some of the vets, and riots broke out. Then they sent MacArthur in with the army.
It sounds like Ottawa is now starting the "start to get rough with 'em" phase.

Certainly is, but at least a re-vitalized Colt is back in operation, with new, not-ancient-worn-out-tooling, and they're bringing back more and more of the classics. Bad, but better than letting Colt disappear into the aether.
And, at least Ruger bought Marlin, so they're still All American, as is Henry, Smith & Wesson, Savage/Mossberg and countless smaller shops. Inside baseball. As of the 2000 era, it was reported that Ruger did the basic investment casting of nearly 90% of the "irons" for nearly every major golf club maker.
It's not that American Gun Companies are doomed to fail. It's that American Gun Companies who remained in the ossified NorthEast Gun HATING States, that became doomed by their own domains.

You are probably right. I would suggest this system of judging arose to make it possible to have short fights, without the necessity of a KO to decide the winner.

One of the biggest problems we had with using Judges to score Historic Sword fighting matches, was finding Judges who could actually see what was going on. It happens SO fast, and is often SO subtle, that you could score, and withdraw your blade, and they literally could not see it. At times we had to SLOW DOWN valid strikes, so the F'n Judges could see it.
If you have not done it for many many years... at a very high level, your brain cannot comprehend what is happening when truly gifted swordsmen fight.

They aren't judging on "artistic merit", anymore than a baseball umpire does. The goal is to be objective. Humans, being fallible, can have bias or make mistakes, so subjectivity may creep in, but it's not explicitly baked into the cake as it is in gymnastics, figure skating, or diving, to name but three.

I volunteered to judge trucks in the show at a Studebaker National Meet years ago. I earned the enmity of one member because I judged his very beautiful Coupe Express as "inauthentic" because it had a straight 8 engine in it, instead of the normal Commander six. He had documents to show that ONE such had been built, special order, by the factory, for a dealer to use as a tow truck. But his was NOT that same truck, but a recreation thereof. His truck was absolutely perfect in every way, but it was a replica of a one-off that no longer exists. I was over-ruled by the meet committee, and I don't resent that.

There are required elements, skills are determined by difficulty then evaluated on how well they are performed. There is some "flitting about" and "arm waving" in between stunts to make it interesting.
Makes it no less of a sport than the 100 yard dash.

Name one single Assault, Murder, Robbery, Looting, Arson. 8 days of protests, 8 days of panic by the Ottawa Elites. They saw two evil flags, a Confederate Stars and Bars, and a Nazi Flag. That was the worst they could say.
After 5 days of George Floyd, Minneapolis and Saint Paul had hundreds of injured police, and even more injured citizens, 3+ murders (most were not discovered until they raked the ashes), 500+ Burnt out buildings, hundreds of others were "only" looted, not looted and burnt down.

My Best friend was in the top 3 of the country... training partner... I also trained with the guy who is Number one in the world in Rapier right now...
But my own eyesight never let me get above a certain level. I was born cross eyed, and had 7 eye operations before I was 12. My Father was once told (early on) that I would probably never be able to read.
I have no natual depth perception. It is all a learned response for me... which is why I SUCKED at baseball...
So while I was probably in the top few hundred in the Nation at one point, I could never really break into the 'big leagues'.... even while those I trained with, and fought with did.... BUT... the one thing they always had to do was take me seriously... which was good enough for me...

The only politician that has fallen so far was the Conservative Opposition Leader, Erin O'Toole. Who? Imagine John McCain or Mitt Romney as the Opposition leader. Erin the Tool spent more time purging his party of Conservatives than he did kissing Justin's @ss. And O'Toole kissed a lot of Justin's A$$. He is still in Parliament, just disgraced and on the literal back bench.

It could - but also I just saw clip from the scene (on small dead animals blog) where a man at the supply depot said that the Police came in, made a bunch of big threats, took two cans of gas, and then left without really doing shit. He thought that the police were trying to bluff the Truckers into giving up. I have no idea whether his take is correct or not.
Btw, it was truly shameful for Hoover to have called in US troops on the Bonus Army. Sometime we think he wasn't so bad because we hate what FDR did; but Hoover was terrible, and deserved the bad reputation he was given.

This is quite a bit bigger than the "Hoover towns" that the vets put up when they didn't get their compensation for WW1 right away...yeah, the press covered it and over blew it, but it was a complete bust for the Hoover admin. It could have been solved with rather easily, but Hoover was stubborn about it.
And Harding or Coolidge should have made good on that promise for payment long before this ever happened. You can't cure stupid...

Indeed, Hoover was himself as big a statist as FDR was. He was all for govt control and Big State solutions. I remember reading some good pieces on this. IIRC, with the big post WWI depression (IIRC, that was, at least on the producer price index side, the biggest bout of deflation on record), Hoover, some lower level official then under Harding (I think, it's late) was all in favor of govt intervention.
They told him to go fuck himself. Quickest recovery in history, too.

At the Milk River RMCP Roadblock, there are probably 60 RCMP and Local Police Blocking the Highway to the border town of Coutts and a few dozen truckers and farmers protesting. Behind the Milk River roadblock are about a thousand friends and family of the truckers. This weekend 300 horsemen amd women showed up to visit Milk River and Coutts. How much coordination did that take? Want to bet everyone knew everyone else? Even the cops.

As of this morning, the "blockade" has moved up the highway to Milk River, about 11 miles north of the border, and the actual blockade line was made up of Sherriffs' Service vehicles, plus some RCMP. Alberta Sherriffs are basically county bylaw enforcement officers, and are members of a civil service union, which is radical leftist. So they have joined the blockade in an effort to topple the nominally "conservative" Alberta Provincial Government. Strange bedfellows.
And there are alternate crossing points both east and west of Coutts/Sweetgrass, a few miles away. The blockade is entirely symbolic.

I have been drinking that makers mark stuff. Its real smooth. The whole music thing, I'm used to gutter drinking. You don't ask, everything gets labeled as booze, like chief's surprise, you drink whats there. Other than long island ice teas, which the do the job fast and efficient, I never really had a booze I could zero in on, although I knew I was a brown booze dude. I couldn't tell a good bourbon from a bad bourbon, but I kinda like this stuff. What should I try next?

The clerk recommended a Texas bourbon, Baby Bleu. There are 3 or 4 different ones, I got the medium priced one ($29.95) and got nothing but thumbs up to the early arriving crowd on Wednesday night. By early the next evening, it was gone. It was really good stuff.

Liquor stores fall from the sky in jersey. There's one almost every mile and one in between. I can light a smoke, and hit 3 different stores around here before the smoke is done. You don't need to know where they are, just stay in the car for 2 minutes. Texas, yeah a little different there.
