Incredible Show of Force at Funeral of Slain Cop Jason Rivera In NYC

Remember, he was gunned down by a criminal out on the streets because of leftwing bail "reform."

And then Governor Karen came out and blamed the "illegal gun."

I think this is a political statement.

And I think the statement is: start prosecuting and jailing criminals, or we'll strike, or stage a major slowdown, and leave you to the whims of the criminals you love so very much.

And I think New York City will choose the criminals.

And New York City will deserve what they get.

And then if people are being attacked by thugs and killers, they can say a prayer to Saint George Floyd of the Voluminous Colon.

Bingo. They want the money the side that doesn't support them provides. If they were smart, they would tailor their strike to provide no protection to areas that supported the current regime. Meanwhile, provide ultra protection to the opposing side. But, you can't go defending antifa/BLM, arresting the other side, and then cry about how you aren't safe.

65 I guess they have to look at the people who they vote for.

I recently watched the first part of a Reason interview with the liberal who wrote the book San Fransicko.

The guy from Reason went out of his way to explain how libertarians were so much like liberals, and then they both bashed the conservative "overreaction" to blue cities, while not saying really anything different than that blues are fucking up their cities in record numbers.

The writer even said that *they* are "making [blue cities] sicker" and this seemed to be confined to cities run by Democrats, but fuck the conservatives.

As I've mentioned before the original meaning of the word "virtue signal", AFAIR, is the way the libertarians have to constantly beg for grace from liberals because "they're a lot alike".

This certainly looks like a political statement. Cops always turn out for cop funerals, but that looks like a non-trivial portion of the total force. NYC has something like 35,000 officers. I am not good at crowd estimation, but those look like some mighty big crowds of them.

And when the city does choose the criminals, I kinda hope the cops don't do a show-of-force protest like this. I hope they just stay home.

I know what you all mean. That the cops are the means that the Gov't has to enforce it's tyrannical and seemingly illegal rules.

But the fact is that much of what was done during (and now) the covid was done during a declared emergency and that because of the declaration those orders they gave were legal. It's the lawmakers who screwed up and did not put limitations on those orders and allowed those who declared them to make orders beyond what they should've and the voters who put them in office.
So this is now the time to make the corrections that should be made to put limits on those declarations. Pennsylvania has already done that. What about your state?

I agree, I also respect and honor our military, however screwy and nutso the brass is getting or official orders are. They protect us, and serve us, for the most part. Yes, there are stories of how horrible they act sometimes, but for every one of those, there's like 500 stories like this one:

The police arrested a Door Dash driver because they were a criminal fugitive. A real bad guy. But then, because the driver had all these packages to deliver, like food, the cops delivered the stuff so it got to the houses it was supposed to. Or the cops that visit an elderly person's house and cook them dinner because they called 911 about being hungry and lonely.

Cops are not all bastards. Most of them are good people. Almost all of what they do is good work.

156 How could they possibly have a crime problem with that many cops? That's a sea of blue.
Posted by: t-bird at January 28, 2022 03:07 PM (oY5A0)
++++
The police population is large. NYPD has about 35,000 sworn officers and a population of 8.8 million in the five boroughs. That is a ratio of 1:251.

For comparison, take Boston. Boston has 2,150 sworn officers and a population of 675,000, which makes for a ratio of 1:313. Dallas has 3,000 officers and a population of 1.3 million, for a ratio of 1:433.

NYC has a *lot* of cops, even when controlling for population. But when crime is legal and response to crime is criminalized, crime gets out of control. Having the wrong priorities can also result in increasing crime despite not having a shortage of officers. The pre-Giuliani era is an example of that. When Giuliani embraced "broken windows policing" he made them a lot more effective. In the post-Giuliani era, they've not only reversed that, they've gone even further and just made crime legal. It doesn't matter how many cops you have if crime is officially not a problem.

179 Willowed from last thread, but thanks for those who think I should hit up VA to get covered...I've actually not bothered trying b/c I knew the hurdles and I don't want to actually deal with the military or vet structure for the duration of how long I've got here.

I can be proud I served, and I did a damn good job.
I love (almost) all the military members who have and are serving.
And I believe in the purpose of the military.

That said, my spouse and I closed that chapter of our lives for our family and I vowed I'd never owe them another minute of my time. And as I said, life has given me a way to cover my illness issues without having to crawl back and say "mother may I." Maybe if that changes, but for now, it's not likely to...and if it did change, the VA probably wouldn't be able to pay, either...

At an important moment in our family, the military screwed over our family when it needed it the most (my leukemia isn't actually the worst we weathered). It was unforgiveable, and from that day forward, my spouse and I worked on being done...and then were.

Many of them hate religion or any other sort of societal disapproval of deviant behavior.

Libertarians, no less than leftists, want to remake society which means destroying what currently exists to make utopia happen. The means of destroying existing society is all that is different. It is also a uniquely British/American ideal that pretty much fails to draw adherents in any other society.

When you watched cops stand down when screamed at by rioting thugs, but taser and arrest mamaw for not signing a traffic ticket, you lost faith.

When you watched Trump supporters pelted with eggs and beaten and have their signs stolen, but people without vax papers loaded in the paddy wagon, you lost faith.

When you saw buildings and businesses burned and grannies shoved down, but mom's with kids at the playground arrested, you lost faith.

When you saw watched statues defaced and torn down while cops did nothing, but elderly, veteran barbers arrested, you lost faith.

Cops don't represent justice, they represent politicians.

I wouldn't put it exactly that way, in a deliberately provocative race war manner. But I do suspect that a notable section of the allegedly Christian church going population is not actually Christian.

Many, perhaps most go out of cultural concerns: this is where my friends are, this is a gathering of people I know and like, this is what my family always has done, this is useful for ethical training for my kids.

The way is narrow.

Don't forget the X-Men as a case study for assimilation versus nationalism. The B-roll Peter Parker from Spider-Verse is Jewish, saw himself as a failure, and is easily the most entertaining Peter Parker in years.

One reason superhero movies were popular is because they didn't aggressively attack the American majority or push for white replacement. Films that failed there, like Captain Marvel, The Eternals, and even Justice League are generally the ones that flopped along with their franchises.

I fully believe that many in NYC vote for it. But with such low turnout numbers regularly and the fact that the city is a machine Democratic city, I'd also imagine that there's more than one race regularly decided by fraud. One domino to start taking out some city councilman, along with the arrest of dozens of people committing fraud at the precinct level, could turn some heads. Political machine cities don't leave much to chance when it comes to securing their power.

They do not buy them. Dealers are required to send in 4473 forms to Martinsburg, WVA when ending their license. Not really that useful and that has been the law since at least the GCA of 1968. The funny thing is written records don't necessarily scan very well and digitizing them will simply introduce a lot of error in the data.

Right. As Bear noted above: we don't notice all the police do and the significance of their presence because they are so ubiquetous and are such a part of culture. Criminals are careful, hesitant, and shy to act because police exist. That's a blanket protection we enjoy but don't notice like a fish doesn't notice the water.

I cleaned up my act and went to school, and then thought I'd like to get involved in politics. Make a difference. All that young dumbass stuff.

What I quickly found was that I was already very, very familiar with how government really works, because it was all so similar to my old gang of lawless cronies. So I just decided to go into another line of work.

If that's the case, he thinks of what he wants out of Christians, and if he doesn't get that, then you're a poopy head--or "not a real Christian".

With the left, it's always what they want out of you, and that's mainly about control. They wanted our moral outrage against Trump's past. The Taylor Laws in NY make public union strikes illegal. Unions that do this are subject to heavy fines, and possible decertification. This doesn't mean that they are enforced, however. The last NYC transit strike was blatantly illegal, and incredibly inconvenient for residents (they usually happen in the winter, to maximize discomfort). Were they fined? Were they decertified? No and no. The union got everything that they wanted, and it didn't cost them a thing.

If the NYC police struck, their HQ would be turned into rubble. Many of their leadership - and membership - vote Republican.

-churches that have few if any non-white members

Tony Morelli. I knew Tony, he lived down the street from me at my old house. My son went to school with his son, and they were pals. A really nice kid (27 or 28 years old now, like my son). He's now a schoolteacher up in Orange Township. I would chit-chat with his wife when I ran into her at Meijer's. Makes me really sad when I think of Tony being gone. He was a real character. Nice guy, good father and husband.

When people ask me why Asians don't vote conservative, I tell people that based on what I've seen Asians are no less ethnic bigots than any other group, and being cultural outsiders they are going to join with the people that hate traditional society.

If whites are the dominant demographic in your country, then if you hate white people, you're going to band together with the party of self-hating whites.

344 The Taylor Laws in NY make public union strikes illegal.

358 201 The last few years has opened quite a few eyes.

It is easy to focus solely on the evils of today but I tell you as a solid fact there is good as well. . We often forget that it is people doing both good and evil--not a label. We who try to follow a righteous path in the darkness are not alone and if you have faith--it can move mountains.

Posted by: It's me donna at January 28, 2022 03:37 PM (g43JH)

I heard the most interesting thing on Bloomberg radio about the infrastructure bill. Turns out that, according to Wall Street, funds from the bill don't make deals happen that ordinarily wouldn't. States float general obligation bills all the time, and the muni market gobbles them up. Everyone wants yield, and munis do that with relative safety. What infrastructure funds do is 'sweeten' existing issuances. What that means, at least on some level, is that this bill is basically a money transfer from taxpayers to investors, with Wall Street taking a vig in the meantime.

456 When it comes to Victim's Right, I think about Marsy's Law and how it seems to have faded away. In PA, it was on the ballot as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment during November 2019, and a majority of voters approved the measure. (It was not supported by the League of Women Voters, ACLUPA.) December 2021, the PA Supreme Court ruled that the ballot measure violated the separate-vote requirement for constitutional amendments & results were not certified.

Where it stands (in the streets) seems to be that Victims' Rights supported by Marsy's Law should not come at the expense of the right of those accused of crimes. In fact, in Pennsylvania issues such as prison gerrymandering puts up roadblocks to individual rights and weakens voting power of some communities.

The state of PA is big on prison reform. Locally, the county prison has been removed from private control and will be operated by the county. Reform for life without parole sentences has been called for by the Lt. Governor. Heavy reform is supported by Sor#s DAs and seems to be a reason why the Philly DA (recently reelected) and others of his ilk continue to have strong support.

462 The photographs of the police turn out for Officer Jason Rivera's funeral, a funeral that never should have happened, are breathtaking. As near as I can tell the sea of police officers ran 6 blocks, most likely more, is unlike any other turnout for a fallen officer I have ever witnessed. The UniParty Fascists intentionally running the country into the ground would be wise to note the depth of the honor, grief, determination on display in NYC today. This hot moment causes one to think of this as a watershed event, time will tell if that is true.
