Virginia Mask Karen Resistance May End By Valentine's Day as Democrat Senator Tells Them: Fix a Date Certain to End Mandatory Masking, Or I'll Vote With the Republicans To Change the Law to Force You To

I noted earlier than the schools were basing their #Resistance on a prior Virginia law which ambiguously referenced the CDC guidelines. The schools resisting the governor's executive order claims the law incorporates the CDCs recommendations and therefore encodes them into law, and an executive order can't overcome a law.

Well, yeah, but the law they're referencing doesn't mandate masking. It just talks about schools using CDC guidelines as a guide. And as previously mentioned, schools already pick and choose from their guidelines. It's certainly true that a law trumps an executive order, but first, the thing you're saying is a law has to actually be a law and not just some crap you're saying.

Still, that's the legal pretext they're using to #Resist, and a court case will take time.

The Virginia House of Delegates flipped to the Republicans, but the Virginia senate does not come up for reelection until 2023, and it's currently held by Democrats, 21-19, so there's no way they could just change the law to just make it clear that masking is optional.

Or... could they?

One Democrat Senator has had enough of the masking and is telling the schools they have a short grace period to decide their own "off ramp" for masking, but after that, he's voting with the Republicans to end it.

Seven school districts, including Prince William but not Loudoun, filed a lawsuit against the state on Monday challenging the executive order.

"At issue is whether locally-elected school boards have the exclusive authority and responsibility conferred upon them by Article VIII, § 7 of the Constitution of Virginia over supervision of the public schools in their respective communities, or whether an executive order can unilaterally override that constitutional authority," Fairfax County Public Schools, one of the plaintiffs, said in a statement.

"With COVID-19 transmission rates high, our hospitals at crisis level, and the continued recommendation of health experts to retain universal mask-wearing for the time being, this is simply not the time to remove this critical component of layered health and safety mitigation strategies. School divisions need to continue to preserve their authority to protect and serve all our students," it continued.

But the standoff may not need the courts to be resolved. On Monday, Chap Peterson, a moderate Democrat who joined with Republicans to force school re-opening last year, said in an email to the Fairfax County Parents Association that Fairfax's school board "must define an 'off ramp' for mandatory masking. That means plainly stated metrics as well as a final deadline (e.g. Valentine's Day). They should announce that immediately. The forced masking policy is going to end very soon, i.e. in a few weeks. Otherwise, the General Assembly will again step in. IT IS NOT AN ACCEPTABLE LONG-TERM SOLUTION."

Republicans control the state house, while the Democrats control the state senate 21-19, meaning that any bill backed by Republicans and Peterson can be passed into law, with the Senate tie being broken by Lt. Gov. Winsome Sears, a Republican.

It would be terrific if Winsome Sears' first major official action were to break the tie in the Senate to end Virginia's mask mandate.

By the way, Luke Rosiak's article is worth reading for the drama of the Virginia Mask Standoff, besides just his scoop on this Democrat's turn to the light.

26 Petersen sued Northam over Covid mandates before and he considers himself the "Manchin" of the VA senate now- he was the most obvious person to flip for Youngkin on this issue.

TL/DR - Youngkin's political instincts and work put in are outstanding - he knew he was gonna win this, and quickly, no matter what the schools did...

Youngkin now has also put out an email address for all VA public school parents whose kids get adversely affected by exercising their rights...

38 I've challenged a lot of pro-mask people, in person and online, to describe how all this masking ends.

Plenty of them just tell me to do as I'm told, but 100% of the ones who actually describe their preferred offramp are Covid zero zealots.

I tend to believe all of the mask Mask MASK people who have thought this through and aren't just relying on the idiot box to think for them are Covid zero people. That's not a solution. It's not tenable.

Even locked down island nations are shutting down entire regions over two or three positive cases. That's what Covid zero looks like.

They do need 2020 rules. They need 100% vote-by-mail, no validation, no observation, ballot harvesting, double-counting and everything else. They need *every* component to cheat at that scale.

Without the 2020 rules - which VA did *not* have in 2021 - and in the face of a lot of attention and scrutiny (the GOP did less awfully there than they did in 2020), Richmond and the rotten parts of NOVA couldn't cheat quite enough to pull it off. They cheated, but they didn't have carte blanche.

Petersen tried to make bowties cool, ala Tucker Carlson...he has his own "image", and small business is one of his big areas, so he heard from ethnic restaurants and locations (that was the basis of his Covid lawsuit against Northam - restaurants and wedding businesses that were getting screwed)...he's money.

He's almost Tom Davis, but a D b/c an R never gets elected in Fairfax. It's all about money for him...that gets him elected...

83 About Virginia and cheating. Somehow the Dems here managed to prang themselves with their voting rules. They were actually pretty tight, and no court ordered monkey business. You could vote by mail, and if you wanted to do so, you needed to provide ID though they had gotten rid of that requirement for in person voting.

There was no mass mailing of ballots to unrequested voters.

Funny thing in CA, they briefly returned to disposable bags when the panic broke out, then went back to outlawing them when the mask mandates were lifted. Now masks are back, baby, but not disposable bags. Must be science.

Also, water rationing was never enforced until the Greaseball's triumphant win. Now it's starting, at least in my city.

Let's assume that swing state AGs will be tough. It's possible. Unlike 2020, they will have three problems:

1) A federal DOJ openly and aggressively breaking the law to pursue former Administration officials along with anyone who speaks out, and

2) Enshrined laws at state and federal level mandating early voting, absentee ballots, etc.

3) At least three million new illegals between 2021 and 2022.

Red states have a very good chance. Perhaps Virginia does too. It's going to take quite a lift though.

Nevada's mandate is based on the CDC "guidance" which means a de facto permanent mask mandate. Our scumbag Governor decreed it so. Here in Reno most people are sheep so many masks, though a recent trip to a certain sporting goods store revealed at least a 1/3 of folks not wearing masks - that was encouraging at least.

First of all, why are you exercising in a mask, Secondly, couldn't you put it on if someone comes by? and Thirdly, You're obviously walking with your spouse. Do you wear masks at home too? The people today were of some Asian background. Perhaps they're conditioned to this in China or some other Asian countries because have only seen a few people of Asian background not wearing masks.

Announce when took inventory thirty years ago, Ukraine failed to actually hand over two or three Russian nukes when they were supposed to, back in the 90's. Those nukes are still there but we aren't sure where.

Then just sit silently by, while everyone figures out what to do next.

yes, I knew it was infected with many Californians , but where I live it's a 50/50% red/blue split still

Just moved from NJ to a red state in the South of the US. When I was still in NJ, my daughter and I would go out for a morning walk for exercise. Depending on which route we took, ( we lived right near the edge of town...) it was like living in a different world. If we went straight down the main road, we were in Montclair ( AKA Hillary and Obama territory) and masked people would see us then they'd cross to the other side of the street so as not to catch the Wuhan Flu. The worst was the day a couple were pushing their baby in the stroller, saw us approaching, and then they waited until we walked past their street before they continued on their walk. If we took side streets and stayed in our town, Clifton, ( Trump signs in front of houses) we would run into friendly people with smiling faces who would greet us as we walked by each other .

I think that was only one aspect of his argument. He also discussed armaments and logistics in some detail.

All of the combatants were ridiculously unprepared for a long war then as well, especially in regards to shell production and heavy artillery. Except maybe the Germans and heavy artillery. But even they only had shells on hand to last a few of months at most.

338 Reason number 106 why I can't stand FoxNews's Bret Baier.

He goes with the story of FJB referring to Doocey as "stupid son of a bitch," by bringing in chucklehead Brit Hume to chat about it.

They end up in a whataboutism, in which they say PDT "often" did the same, so, so what.

I heard Trump call out a number of reporters asking gotcha questions, saying "You're FAKE NEWS."

But I never heard PDT using an expletive in an insult to one of those reporters.

There is a difference, but Bret the pussy, and senile Brit apparently don't know it.

We are about an hour away and Dad asks me if I have a mask. I asked him why I would need a mask. He proudly displayed their N95 masks and said he wasn't going to catch anything or give anything to anyone else.

There followed a long conversation where I quoted facts, figures etc about the ineffectuallity of masks. And they accused me of watching Fox news. (I don't have cable and don't watch Fox news.)

They had no facts, no evidence, nothing but smuggery about their virtue.

My Dad has always, always been someone I looked up to and he is the one who taught me about following the evidence etc. etc. etc.
