The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

"I want to be clear, the Arizona Democratic Party is a diverse coalition with plenty of room for policy disagreements, however on the matter of the filibuster and the urgency to protect voting rights, we have been crystal clear. In the choice between an archaic legislative norm and protecting Arizonans' right to vote, we choose the latter," ADP Chair Raquel Terán

Quote II

“Her son is a joy for her. Life has dealt her a blow. He is deaf and mute." Antony Cook

Quote III

“As the U.K. and our partners have said repeatedly, any Russian military incursion into Ukraine would be a massive strategic mistake with severe costs,” British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss

Quote IV

“I stay in my lane. The reality is, is that if we want to do anything, we want to do it for all people, not just for a group or whatever.”Goldie Hawn

Why worry about foreign policy: When you can #Hashtag your way to world peace, love and understanding?!

Biden Administration Revives Useless Obama-Era Tactic of 'Hashtag Diplomacy'

As Russia and Ukraine inch closer to war and as British intelligence warns of rumors of a Russian-engineered coup in Ukraine, the West waits to see what’s happening and prepares for the next moves.

Well, that is, everybody in the West except the Biden administration. Instead, the Biden State Department is bringing back a tactic from the Obama years — a little stunt I like to call “hashtag diplomacy.”

Yesterday, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry tweeted the remembrance of an event that took place 32 years ago that day.

Creeper submitted this and I was wondering when I would use it. Well the following story certainly comes close.

Talk about phantom nipple pain.

Student, 19, freezes his nipples off after emptying two cans of Lynx on them

One day in his school changing rooms, the student, who asked not to be named, was challenged to empty two full cans of Lynx onto his nipples before a friend flicked them off

A student lost his nipples after freezing them with two cans of Lynx for a dare before his mate flicked them off.

The teenager, who attends the University of Liverpool and asked not to be named, was challenged to empty two full cans of deodorant onto his nipples.

Despite saying that he'd do it again, the teen concedes that "it was stupid," adding: "Now I've got no nipples."

Our world is full of imbeciles.

Bill Maher is a smarmy liberal. But as a broken clock is correct twice a day, he is correct when it comes to the Kung Flu tyranny. Too little and too late.

ight now and it should not be anymore,” the Real Time with Bill Maher host says as the HBO series prepares to kick off its 20th season tonight. “And I think the big discussion on our show Friday night when we go on, is should we continue with the Covid policies we’ve had in the past?”

Set to feature a one-on-one interview with On Tyranny Graphic Edition: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century author Timothy Snyder and panelists Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-NY) and Honestly podcast’s Barri Weiss, the Real Time 20th season debut will undoubtedly see professional contrarian Maher also tackle the legacy and possible future of Donald Trump. Even with a tendency to lapse into grumpy old white man mode and false equivalencies when it comes to the culture wars, Maher has proven an unsparing Cicero of sorts against the tyranny of Trumpism and the frequent ineptitude of American liberals.

Oh you bet it's fast. Wink, wink. Nod, nod. The purveyors of the Kung Flu have a speedy test.

BUM DEAL China brings back anal swab testing for Covid in world’s most brutal lockdown two weeks before Winter Olympics begin

CHINA has brought back its "undignified" anal Covid swabs just two weeks before the Beijing Winter Olympics begin.

The Communist regime claims the virus test — which involves inserting a 5cm long saline-soaked swab up a patient's bum and rotating it — is more accurate than other on-the-spot virus tests.

The GOP needs more Laura Loomers and fewer Kevin McCarthys.

Florida GOP challenger CONFRONTS ‘Team McCarthy’ at NRCC donor retreat about LIZ Cheney, Donald Trump.

Laura Loomer has been cancelled. She’s also running for congress in Florida and does not have a good chance of winning. That’s not the only reason to run, but I’m just saying the odds aren’t great. And the NRCC’s incumbent protection policies are part of why.

When Loomer asked a question at the NRCC event in Florida she was immediately stomped on by Tom Emmer trying to shut her down, but not before she could ask why Liz Cheney wasn’t on “Team McCarthy’s” top targeted incumbent list.

Good luck Kyle Rittenhouse.

Kyle Rittenhouse used his AR-15 to defend his life. Many don’t think he should have had a gun, ignoring the fact that he’d have probably been dead.

Now that he’s over 18, there’s little reason he can’t have an AR-15. Especially since he’s not a convicted felon, much to the chagrin of many.

The principle of the government school denies it. However, I wouldn't doubt a "Furries" litter-box in a restroom.

A SCHOOL in Michigan has bizarrely been accused by outraged parents of installing litter boxes in bathrooms for students who identify as cats and dogs.

Midland Public Schools Superintendent Michael E. Sharrow took to Facebook on Thursday to deny the claims, insisting no litter box accommodations had been made for any students who identify as a "furry."

Two men hit by woman falling out of window… who was looking at another man who fell off rooftop

Luckily, everyone involved is expected to pull through.

The vicinity of a single building in downtown Yokohama suddenly became a danger zone one afternoon when a bizarre chain reaction of falls left four people injured.

The incident began shortly after 4 p.m. on 21 January, when police received a call that a man in his 40s or 50s had fallen from the rooftop of a five-story building. In addition to the height he also reportedly had fallen in a very narrow gap between the neighboring building.

After the initial fall, a woman in her 40s looked out a window on the third floor of the same building to see what happened. However, in doing so, she lost her balance and also fell out. At the same time another man was looking through a window on the second floor to see what happened.

The woman who fell out the third floor window hit the man in his 30s in the head, while he was looking through the second floor window She then hit another man, also in his 30s, who was standing on the ground.

WATCH: ‘Woke’ Preacher Says That Jesus ‘Transgendered Himself’ When He Washed The Disciples’ Feet

Some people clearly don’t understand that the Bible is supposed to change them and not the other way around.

A clip from a June 2021 panel in London on “queer theology” is rapidly spreading on social media.

It shows a man wearing a priest’s collar talking about how he thinks that Jesus “transgenders Himself on a number of occasions.”

The ONT Musical Interlude

Born on this day: 23 Jan 1953
Robin Zander, singer, songwriter from American rock band, Cheap Trick, who had the 1979 hit single 'I Want You To Want Me', and the 1988 US No.1 single 'The Flame'. via thisdayinmusic.com

&&&

On this day: 23 Jan 1978
American musician and songwriter Terry Kath, best known as the original guitarist, and founding members of the rock band Chicago accidentally shot himself dead. After a party at roadie and band technician Don Johnson's home in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, California, Kath picked up a semiautomatic 9 mm pistol and, leaning back in a chair, said to Johnson, "Don't worry about it ... look, the clip is not even in it." To satisfy Johnson's concerns, Kath showed the empty magazine to Johnson. Kath then replaced the magazine in the gun, put the gun to his temple and pulled the trigger. Apparently unbeknownst to Kath, however, there was still one round in the chamber, and he died instantly from the gunshot. via thisdayinmusic.com

Bill and Chiefs were the cream of the crop in the NFL - the NFC was pretty weak.

The Rams and 49-ers - while pretty equal in strength and talent - have no QB worthy of a super bowl championship - neither are going to survive in the Super Bowl against the AFC.

He's probably cemented HOF with this season...

I don't know why he gets passed over for MVP...maybe it's b/c he also has Tyreek Hill...but Rodgers has Davonte Adams...and Brady had Mike Evans and Gronk...

And neither of the latter 2, this year, would have pulled off that ending in 13 seconds...

Which likely gives him access to all the intel they've got. Does Putin drop it publicly right away to weaken Biden? Or does he just blackmail Biden into leaving his coup in place?

After everything the FNM and Biden are saying now it would be hard to just walk away from Ukraine...but if Putin drops solid evidence that Biden is an election stealing pedo? We could have our first impeachment in the middle of a war.

A lot of our elites are "satan curious" at least. Never heard anything specific about Whitmer, but as I've referenced before that article in the HuffPo about some "good" lefty HausFrau joining the Church of Satan because she was so mad at Trump wasn't that much of an outlier.

175 So I got the coof. Been sick since the 13th. I've been sicker before with the flu. My problem is once a virus gets into my chest and I start coughing it takes me a long time to get over it. My husband, who denies he got it too, is pretty much over it and so is my son. The other 2 kids had it in July and didn't get it this time. The main difference is the fatigue and weight loss. I can still smell and taste but it does seem diminished. Don't seem to be able to get the energy to do anything. I'm going to try the store tomorrow, we need milk and a few things. You would think I would have posted more but that takes energy which I don't have. I'm cleared to go back to work Tuesday which will be interesting since I'm still coughing and tired. I'll just stay in my office and try to stay awake. This also postpones my neck surgery until my lungs are recovered and I'm done coughing. I'm going to wind up using all my sick leave this year! I have about 5 weeks.

214 Met a couple people tonight at dinner at our favorite family-owned Italian joint. Uruguayans, came separately as single people, ages 18 and 19, arrived in NYC in the mid-70s.

Uruguay went into a state of emergency in 1968 and civil liberties began circling the drain soon thereafter. A slow-burn civil war ensued, a military dictatorship took command, and by the mid and late 80s, Uruguay had as a percentage of total population, more of its citizens imprisoned for political dissent than anywhere else in the world.

So they know what it feels like to sink into the morass.

And they both said that the US is in the same state now as Uruguay was when they were in high school and university there. And that this is most evident in the views and attitudes of America's young people.

246 MadisonTheCat just caught herself in a plastic trashbag and tore through the house and ended up under our bed

We had a cat who got tangled in a plastic bag like that. Tumbled across the floor and fell down three stairs. Happened so fast we couldn't even grasp what we had just seen. He wasn't hurt, just badly shaken. The rest of his life he was very suspicious of plastic grocery bags. Just the rustle of them would make him nervous.

253 So, yet another Obama Administration senior Pentagon official, Michael Vickers, is in the Washington Post beating the drums for war.

Biden must show that the U.S. stands ready to support Ukraine, militarily if necessary

The United States should also support Ukrainian resistance to Russian occupation and a Russia-installed government with lethal means, to include advanced anti-armor and anti-air weapons. He also advocates doing this in Belarus. Also,

Finally, we should employ cyber and other covert means to undermine Putin's rule in Russia. It's past time to give Putin a taste of his own medicine.

Aside from the sheer amount of suffering that would be involved having a guerrilla war in a developed European country, he is curiously silent on what Putin might do in response to this. Which society and economy do you think is more vulnerable to mutual state-level cyber warfare - ours or theirs? If Putin starts sending advanced anti-armor and anti-air weapons to jihadists in Western Europe and cuts a deal with Iran to use Hezbollah to help, what do you think will happen?

These people are insane.

I know my manager would let me...we'll see how Tuesday goes.
Posted by: lin-duh at January 23, 2022 10:36 PM (UUBmN)

Don't push yourself b/c you are still in the healing phase. I would let your manager know you'll grab paper and work from home the rest of the week.

Even if you think you're through Covid fully, the fatigue is a sign your immune system is in the toilet and you're not back to normal. So, you don't want to pick up other colds, the flu, RSV, weird bacteria, etc right now...or have the nagging cough you still have develop into something more.

At least see if a week gets you back to 95% before you try to resume your whole life again.

356 Prayers up for Doof and his family. Such an unexpected lost at only 50.

While life goes on this past year has sucked entirely. Lost Jo, my MIL in Mar. We couldn't have a service because of the CCCP flu. Her husband of 67 yrs, Jerry was hoping for the service, canceled. He then died Oct. 31.

I'm tired of losing people I love, just stop.

Then friends here, like redci4i, Tami and Oregon Muse. This is getting too much. Of course a while back it was a blow to here of Chavez the Hugo dying, I had met him and the Mrs. in person, such nice folks. Oh there was some dude there named Mis Hum, before he came to fame as a cogblogger. And I got to dance w/ the lovely donna&&&&, what a treat. We had such fun.

And then my musical rock and roll dude Meat just up and died at 74, so sad. This is the way life goes. As Meat Loaf always said at the end of his concerts...
from my heart to your soul, never stop rocking...

Over the years, I've engaged with several different Christians and they always graciously answer my questions about Christianity with references to Scripture in their tabbed Bibles, and they always had an answer...

But... It seems they could cherry-pick their passages with a too-convenient method of literal vs. explained interpretations to make their point, and it was frustrating, and I was frequently reminded the warning of 'even the debbil can cite Scripture to his own ends'...

I would suggest reading multiple chapters at a time to make sure you're clear on the context. Where the Bible is straight history that should be clear. Where it's fulfilled prophecy, you have to be familiar with other sections. Where it's yet unfullfilled prophecy, people tent to argue over what it means and how literal it is.

Although it seems to me that arguments over how literal one part or another is tend to be of the "I don't want to believe this so it must be figurative" sort.

*Not claiming to not be guilty of that myself.

You can believe Jesus, who clearly said who He is. You can believe what He did -- lived and died and rose again. You can believe God when He said He sent His Son to die for you that you might have eternal life.

Defending yourself or the stuff He gave you isn't murder in God's eyes, as best I can tell. I think one of the great deceptions of our time has been this idea that if progs make (pick a sin of theirs) a political issue, then we're somehow bound to just let them do it rather than put a stop to it. A thief acting through legislation is still just a thief, as are his co-conspirators.

633 Just wait until you get to the part when He tells you it is His body and blood.

It's kind of late to be picking a fight, and I recall you and I have had it before. I think you're wrong, and that I am unlikely to correct you.

I think that's not literally true, since I know what blood tastes like (and more to the point, the idea that Jesus is resacrificed every time a mass is held contradicts Scripture "For as Christ died once for the sins of all, so it is appointed to man once to die and then the judgement"). I am more persuaded that He is present in a spiritual sense, in much the same way He said He'd be present whenever two or more are gathered in His name.

While I think it's an overly limited view, I do get where other denominations see the practice of communion as merely a reminder of what He did on our behalf.

In any case, it's belief in His identity as God, and our need for that level of sacrifice on our behalf, that's actually important, not the hoops we jump through to remember those things.

680 It's late enough, so here goes:

Last January, the Dr's told us that hubby should "get his affairs in order"... as in, they expected that he had only perhaps a few weeks left. End-stage liver disease. MELD score 27 at that time.

Here we are today. He has good days and bad. Bouts of hepatic encephalopathy if his meds/diet go the least bit out of whack. Sometimes I must help him clean up after... accidents... (couldn't get to bathroom quickly enough). Lots of laundry here!

I've watched him go from healthy, robust and 190 lbs down to cane/walker-using 135 lb and so frail. He's only mid-60s!

I had to quit job after using up all fmla and hit the limit of unpaid leave-of-absence... at least I "retired" without bad reference, but I am not old enough to get SS or medicare. At least COBRA will cover me for a while.

682 654, this might. Not be the right thread. But something is bothering you. I figured out quite a few years back the utility of marriage. So many old and and biblical traditions have utilitarian reasons, not just spiritual.

Imo, aside from kids, people marry to have a partner in life. When you get sick, you need a partner and advocate. Trust me, the alternative is not good.

My mom had maladies her entire life. She never drank or smoked but it didn't matter. She had major surgeries and major health issues her entire adult life. When dad got sick with dementia, what really bothered her was she felt she could not be there for him like he was there for her all those years. The reality is she was there for him, just like he had always been there for her.

Stepmother has a fever so she can not get in to hospital to see him.

"Fellow passenger Roi Lotan , 'The flight was half empty and there was room, so they probably just said to themselves "why not?" Lotan said. The ruckus prompted the pilots to turn back near the Maine-New Brunswick border.

744 Lord grant you the strength and comfort that only He can give Doof. Today has been a sobering yo yo of a day. My heart felt broken this morning and your loss brought tears to my eyes. Tonight I sat in my daughter's kitchen, again with tears. Every one else was in the front room welcoming our newest addition. I don't claim to know much about anything and it suits me fine. I do know, with a resounding assuredness, that our Lord is Sovereign . What we take and what we are given each day is part of His creation . He is a loving Father above all else yet it often seems difficult to understand. May He lead you to a place where His peace surrounds you friend.

750 The namesake thing has a humorous twist to it. The new one shares a first name with my dog. My daughter and SIL have a thing about classical Roman names. When my dog showed up on our porch 16 years ago my son was studying Roman history. He named the dog after Marcus Aurelius. That's all fine and well except for the fact that I added four more names and the dog answers to all of them. The dog's name is Marcus Barkus Rufus Dufus O'Malley. I hope the kid doesn't end up holding this against me.
