The seven year old had been staring at the plaque for some time, so the pastor walked up, stood beside the little boy, and said quietly, "Good morning Alex." "Good morning Pastor," he replied , still focused on the plaque. "Pastor, what is this?" he asked. The pastor said, "Well, son, it's a memorial to all the young men and women who died in the service." Soberly, they just stood together, staring at the large plaque. Finally, little Alex's voice, barely audible and trembling with fear, asked, "Which service, the 9:00 or the 10:45?" Work on your foreign language skills. Hold on a second..........How to scare children in the 1920s Is there still a small part of you who thinks the bogeyman is going to grab your feet if you dangle them off the side of your bed? Well, these photographs certainly won’t help. These chilling images come from a series of photographs entitled “The Goblins Will Get You If You Don’t Watch Out”, and were made sometime around 1923-1934. They tell a nightmarish tale of a little girl being abducted by horrible creatures of the night. The photographs were inspired by the 1885 poem “Little Orphant Annie” by James Whitcomb Riley, which describes naughty children snatched away by goblins as punishment for their misbehavior. Browse through the entire series below: Pre-loved sex dolls flying off the shelves as shop offers second-hand companions Born on this day: 22 Jan 1931 On this day: 22 Jan 2017 I love a good hamburger. But not enough to be arrested for a felony or to become a Genius Award Winner. JANUARY 19--A Louisiana motorist who last night led police on a “lengthy pursuit” before surrendering told cops that he did not initially stop his vehicle “because he wanted to eat his burger that he just purchased,” according to an arrest report. A Monroe Police Department officer reported trying to pull over a 2006 Chevrolet Impala that had been traveling “with its high beams activated, which made it harder for me to see the roadway when approaching the vehicle.” But when the cop activated his lights and siren around 11:10 PM, the driver of the Impala did not stop. Instead, the vehicle “then lead officers on a lengthy pursuit reaching 60 MPH in a posted 25 MPH zone without stopping.” After going through “approximately 6 stop signs without making complete stops,” driver Allen Seaberry, 37, pulled up in front of his Monroe home around midnight and “exited the vehicle holding a hamburger.” Seaberry, seen above, was handcuffed and read his rights. He then told police that he “couldn’t stop due to his brakes being out and because he wanted to eat his burger that he just purchased.” Tonight's ONT has been brought to you by Affection. When the grandkids first started to stay over night they loved us reading the Three Little Pigs. However, the big bad wolf scared them and were worried about getting got by him. We told them that Breccia (our Malinois) had chased the Big Bad Wolf away and they were safe.
For good measure we told them that Finnessee (one of our Yorkies) had chased away all the monsters. So again they were safe. Over the years the kids would tell their school friends about Breccia and Finnessee keeping them safe and asked us if the dogs could go to their friends homes and make them safe too. Rhomboid, on the field -- not that I've seen, except the "stop racism" notes on the backs of the helmets. In the commercials -- oh hell yes. 80% black, lots of CRT messaging.
We try and watch the games an hour or two late, DVR so as to skip the commercials. The halftime shows get more blatantly satanic every year. I don't watch those either, just get the recap on Vigilant Citizen afterwards. This will probably be the last year I watch NFL. I can tolerate a lot, but the in-your-face straight-up Satanism is a bridge too far. One more chance for Brady, and I'm done. I quit watching football several years ago (for a lot of reasons; the political stuff was just diarrhea icing on a turd cake). But even when I was into it, the Superbowl mostly sucked. It's a football game centered around the interests of non-fans. Cluttered up with halftime bullshit, dumb commercials (they have not been worth a damn in a very long time), and parties etc. It's basically like the takeover of a hobby by normies.

So just came across this early 80s movie "The Bunker" for the first time. Guy playing Speer is the actor who played the NSA in Hunt for Red October (don't usually know actors' names).
Musta been based on Speer's memoir, he's central and boy is he looking like a guy you wouldn't want to string up at Nuremberg (he even looked at gassing everyone in the bunker! ...... sure he did). There have been several disassemblies of Speer's accounts, haven't yet read them. Anthony Hopkins as You Know Who is pretty good (of course), actor playing Goebbels almost has a hilariously unfortunate New York accent (and doesn't do the gimp walk correctly). Guy playing Jodl looks like Terry Bradshaw, can't get it out of my head, kinda funny. Posted by: rhomboid at January 22, 2022 11:41 PM (OTzUX) 308

The players of the NBA and the NFL hate you. They're an under-educated bunch because all they needed to slide thru junior high, high school, and college was the ability to run fast and/or lift a lot of weights.
I wish I could tell you I no longer watch, but I can honestly say my viewing has declined steeply. I've also stopped purchases of hats, jackets, memorabilia has stopped. The owners of these leagues will one day pay for declaring 50% of the viewing audience as racists. I could attend games for the local NBA franchise. I refuse to since they started the season with a requirement for Covid tests and/or proof of vaccine. Screw them--my medical condition is none of their business. They dropped that requirement several weeks ago, but I'm good---they don't need my money. Oh, and the commissioner of MLB is a dumbshit. No purchases of their gear or memorabilia either. He's going to have to come up with four hydrogens to make methane from that one carbon in the CO2. CO2 is the "ash" from burning methane, that, and two H2O's. I used to be an avid sports fan. I watched all varieties and kept up with the stats and players. I even knew who won the Stanley Cup and won various awards in hockey, though I live in East Tennessee and there was no hockey. I would read the box scores in the paper. An ex-girlfriend once chided me that if we were having sex and the two cats started playing with a ball, I would stop coitus in mid-stroke to see which cat prevailed. Then the leagues went woke, and even though I'm a life long Braves fan and Georgia Bulldog, I didn't even watch them win championships this year. I had old friends texting me saying "How bout that game!"' and I had to pretend I gave a shit. I don't think the players hate me. They have no clue who I am. Now, the feeling is mutual. I just don't care, I don't know who they are either. Posted by: Bitter Clinger at January 23, 2022 12:14 AM (dbs6Z) 365

She's still active with some of the folks from back then and received this update today. She asked that I pass it along here: "Sorry to say it is true. He slipped and didn't survive a fall. We looked and looked and didn't find a death notice or Obit. A member got a hold of his wife. Copy of his reply: I'm of course very saddened to confirm the passing of my friend, Mr. Red Seewun. I had to verify with his significant other, "Resident Evil". He DID NOT die from anything "Covid". He slipped and fell right before Thanksgiving last year, and he had absolutely NO contacts on his phone, or she would have called/text. Anyway, his head bounced against a concrete wall, and floor and that was it. I'm grateful that he went quickly and without suffering. If you are as I am, maybe say a quick prayer to God thanking him for giving us Red, for the time we had with us." I wanted a kareoke machine at the last Texas MoMe but my idea did not go over well. The last couple of weddings I attended and granted they were a different generation but groups of people spontaneously got up and started singing along with the music several times. It looked like fun.

I don't think the players hate me. They have no clue who I am. Now, the feeling is mutual. I just don't care, I don't know who they are either.
Posted by: Bitter Clinger at January 23, 2022 12:14 AM (dbs6Z) I stopped paying attention to the Mets when I realized the players hated me. They did, too. It was a real fuck you fans attitude for a while and it was mostly lead by Carlos the terrorist and flagshitter Delgado. What a bunch of don't give a shit millionaire assholes that team was. Come to think of it I'm not too sparkling on the flag these days but whatever. Is sitting an oil well like babysitting a child?
Posted by: AmericanKestrel at January 23, 2022 12:32 AM (IDhUW) Sort of. Wellsite geologists (me) "sit" wells, because we spend most of our workday at a desk or seated at a lab counter peering through a microscope at rock chips. And drilling supervisors "sit" wells by sitting a desk keeping track of costs, and making engineering decisions, like which bit to run, etc. In each case, it's an "office" job, but on-site. But I can put on my hard hat, fireproof coveralls, safety glasses, earplugs, and steel-toed boots, and go wander around the rig if I want. Climbed up to the top of the derrick a couple of times (when drill not running) to take pictures. Carried a grease gun, and greased the crown sheaves, too, to pay for the privilege. Of course, everything we eat or drink has been used many times before. I remember seeing a rough ballpark estimate of how many times every single water molecule you drink has been peed out before, but I don't remember the exact number. I want to say about 75 or something in that range, but that also seems like it might be way off (on the low side). A bunch, anyway. I also remember in one of Larry Niven's Ringworld books where they were using Puppeteer-built skycycles to explore the Ringworld. The cycles had a built-in toilet, which fed directly into the back of the food synthesis unit. The humans would have preferred a less-explicit arrangement. Posted by: AmericanKestrel at January 23, 2022 12:59 AM (IDhUW) Well, if the drilling site is in a forest, the drilling lease and the access road are logged off to clear them. I have been on wellsites in active logging areas, but that is due more to coincidence, not policy. And of course, many drilling leases are on cropland or rangeland, too. Climactic scene after he chases her through the town. She and the Duke had been estranged before the start of the movie for a couple years. She came back to town and has been riding and needling him about getting a divorce all movie and he has turned the other cheek (because he still loves her.) His friends have been telling him all movie that he needs to spank her because she is acting like a petulant child. Aetius451AD.
You're right, but I'll throw another couple of curves, here. Jennifer Nettles singing "Why Don't You Stay". Reaches down your throat, grabs you by the heart, and uses it to steer your emotions like a rudder. Pasty on her best day, never held that power. The lass with Little Big Town singing "Need You Now". Same effect, but by time the song was over you had already lit all the candles, uncorked the wine and turned down the bed for when she arrived at your door. Patsy tickled your ears. The two I mentioned, made love to your souls. There's more than a mere world of difference, there. Tell that to my neighbor's several miles up the road from me who lost half a dozen sheep. We have ranchers who have game camera pictures but those are treated as anomalies. Wolf activity only exists where they officially say it exists. The only wolf that you should really fear is one that is collared. That's assuming that you are packing. So, now they have to go overboard with the rhetoric after getting their ass handed to them by little Biden's gaffe.
But hey, no mean tweets and he went two full hours! Posted by: Aetius451AD at January 23, 2022 03:35 AM (dNqv+) 551
German Admiral has resigned because of dust up caused by him saying that Russia needs/wants respect and Ukraine is never going to get Crimea back.
Which indicates to me that there still some rational people in Germany. Posted by: Braenyard saying, here's your new Cold War, zippers at January 23, 2022 03:39 AM (Mg8KB) 552

Ukraine does not have the ability and no one has either the will or desire to dislodge Russia. I find this interesting. I think it is telling that Biden is using Russia as his midget in a bar to show how tough he is, not the huge drunk biker China. Not exactly new or deep, but given his whole deal on Afghanistan, this is hilariously farcical. Posted by: Aetius451AD at January 23, 2022 03:44 AM (dNqv+) 553
