Fauci and Collins Knew It Was Likely That Covid-19 Came from Wuhan Lab But Ordered the Story Quashed to Protect China; Scientists Receiving Millions in Grants from Fauci and Collins Changed Their Opinions and Joined the Disinformation Campaign
A new report from Fox mostly rehashes stuff we knew but it's good to get it out there again.
Early in the pandemic, multiple scientists urged NIAID Director Anthony Fauci and NIH Director Francis Collins to seriously consider the theory that Covid escaped from a Chinese laboratory, arguing that the lab-leak theory, which Fauci and Collins have downplayed since the pandemic began, was more plausible than the natural origin explanation.
Mike Farzan, an immunology researcher and the discoverer of the SARS receptor, Bob Garry, a virology expert, and Dr. Andrew Rambaut, a British evolutionary biologist, all observed that a particular feature of the virus, the "furin cleavage site," was peculiar and suggested gain-of-function engineering. Their comments were made during a February 2020 conference call of experts, the notes of which were presented to Fauci and Collins and obtained by congressional Republicans.
One month later, in March 2020, Collins said the lab-leak hypothesis was "outrageous." Similarly, in May 2020, Fauci told National Geographic that Covid "could not have been artificially or deliberately manipulated."
In his summary, Farzan stated that SARS-CoV-2 had the marking of laboratory experimentation that resulted in a virus that immediately proved highly infectious to humans.
"So given above, a likely explanation could be something as simple as passage SARS-live CoVs in tissue culture on human cell lines (under BSL-2) for an extended period of time, accidentally creating a virus that would be primed for rapid transmission between humans via gain of furin site (from tissue culture) and adaptation to human ACE2 receptor via repeated passage," he said.
Comparing the probabilities associated with "accidental release" and "natural event" respectively, Farzan said he was "70:30 or 60:40" in favor of the former explanation. Referring to another scientist, he said: "He is bothered by the furin site and has a hard time explain that as an event outside the lab (though, there are possible ways in nature, but highly unlikely)."
Garry echoed Farzan in his analysis, adding that the virus's chemical makeup would mean that the "bat virus" would have had to have undergone an extremely intricate alteration more likely to have been performed in a laboratory setting. He later specified that the furin cleavage site present in the original Covid strain would be unlikely to emerge in nature in a way that made the virus highly transmissible in humans.
"I really can't think of a plausible natural scenario where you get from the bat virus or one very similar to it to nCoV where you insert exactly 4 amino acids 12 nucleotides that all have to be added at the exact same time to gain this function -- that and you don't change any other amino acid in S2? I just can't figure out how this gets accomplished in nature," he said.
On a February 2 email, on which Fauci and Collins were copied, Rambaut wrote that he's also skeptical of the notion that the novel furin cleavage site emerged naturally. "From a (natural) evolutionary point of view the only thing here that strikes me as unusual is the furin cleavage site," he said. Rambaut noted that the insertion sequence of Covid, which has not been found in any other known coronavirus, also "resulted in an extremely fit virus in humans," meaning it spreads among humans very efficiently. While questions circulated among these researchers, the scientific establishment was eager to quiet their suspicions, branding the lab-leak hypothesis still as a "conspiracy" that must be suppressed, the phone conference notes reveal.
An unsigned meeting note, which was presumably signed off on by Fauci and Collins, reads: "I share your view that a swift convening of experts in a confidence inspiring framework (WHO seems really the only option) is needed, or the voices of conspiracy will quickly dominate, doing great potential harm to science and international harmony...."
That is obviously not a scientific conclusion -- in fact, it is directly contrary to all available science.
It's a political one. They want to "preserve harmony" with China.
And, let's face it: They want to cover up their own possible involvement in funding the pandemic that shut down the planet.
Another researcher makes that clearer:
Dr. Ron Fouchier, a Dutch virologist, remarked during the conference that further discussion "about such accusations would unnecessarily distract top researchers from their active duties and do unnecessary harm to science in general and science in China in particular."
Prompting Collins to suggest a full-court political smear campaign against science, which was now rebranded a "conspiracy:"
Collins wrote in an April 2020 email to Fauci and other officials: "Wondering if there is something NIH can do to help put down this very [destructive] conspiracy, with what seems to be growing momentum," and he then embeds a hyperlink to an article about Fox News' anchors supporting the lab-leak theory. The next day, Fauci responds to Collins, saying: "I would not do anything about this right now. It is a shiny object that will go away in times."
It gets worse from here: Two of the researchers who initially thought that the furin cleavage site virtually proved the virus was man-made but then reversed their opinions when Fauci and Collins demanded that this "conspiracy" be quashed received $8.9 million in grants from the pair.
Fox News picks up with a bit more.
On Tuesday night's episode of Special Report with Bret Baier, Fox News dove into the early days of the coronavirus pandemic and explored documents obtained showing that Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, was warned early on that the virus may have originated in a Wuhan, China lab.
According to the timeline of events laid out by Baier, Fauci was told on January 27, 2020 that his NIAID had been indirectly funding the Wuhan lab through EcoHealth-- a US-based scientific non-profit that had been working with novel coronaviruses.
In other words: From very early in this process, from just a month and a half into the covid pandemic, we know Fauci was told he may have funded the pandemic.
He cannot deny knowledge of this. We have record he was warned.
So we have proof that he was highly motivated to lie about the origins of covid -- and that this motivation had little to do with "international harmony."
On January 31, Dr. Kristian Andersen, a noted virologist at the Scripps Lab, privately told Fauci that after discussion with his colleagues some of COVID-19's features look possibly engineered and the "genome is inconsistent with expectations from evolutionary theory."
Andersen added that the situation needed to be looked at more closely, at which point Fauci organized an all hands on deck conference call with colleagues where he was told that risky experiments with the novel coronavirus may not have gone through proper biosafety review and oversight.
Hours later, Fauci hastily organized a call with dozens of worldwide virologists, and notes from the meeting obtained by Special Report reveal that suspicions of the lab leak theory were suppressed over concerns of how the public would react to news of possible Chinese government involvement.
Four days after he was warned that he personally might have funded the creation of covid-19, Fauci ring-led a campaign to lie to the world and claim a natural origin and ruthlessly suppress the science which was pointing at a lab creation -- claiming that his concerns were about China.
Creating an alternative motive to hide his real one.
In the meeting, fears were raised by then-National Institutes of Health Director Francis Collins that "science and international harmony" could be harmed and accusations of China's involvement could distract top researchers.
Oh yes he was worried that "top researchers" would face "distractions." That must have been it.
One scientist continued making the case that the virus sure looked lab-made, but Fauci's crime was now in progress, and he would not be deterred:
Another scientist in the meeting dismissed the possibility that the virus jumped from a bat to a person in nature and pointed out that the virus could be generated in a lab much easier.
Fauci and others in the meeting pointed to evidence that the virus originated in a seafood and wild animal market in Wuhan, which was complicated by the market being shut down and scrubbed clean by Chinese authorities.
A consensus was reached in the call that the lab origin should not be mentioned in a paper because it will add "fuel to the conspiracists," and Collins appeared convinced that natural origin of the virus was "more likely."
Even assuming, arguendo, that they legitimately believed the natural origin was "more likely" -- how does "more likely" become "near-certainty" which requires the smearing as "conspiracy theory" the other very live possibility?
Again, this isn't science -- this is accessory after the fact.
Just four days later, five researchers who were on the call authored preliminary findings abandoning their early private beliefs that the virus was likely the result of a lab leak.
Fauci later ring-led additional efforts to run a political smear effort against the lab leak theory, which you all know about already.
And he paid off the "scientists" who were willing to play ball:
Fauci continued to push against the lab leak theory for months, and Special Report has learned that two authors of the scientific report Fauci touted were in close contact with Fauci and awarded millions in grants from his agency.
$8.9 million, I've read in multiple articles.
Why did Fauci and Collins not recuse themselves from the question of the virus' origins, as they had a clear personal liability conflict of interest?
So these are the Norms we're eager to Restore? The Norms of DC insiders abusing their offices to pay off henchmen to change their testimony and to mount publicity campaigns using an allied corrupt media to attack anyone pointing out their culpability?
Below, Baier's Special Report segment, and a Megyn Kelly segment from a couple of weeks ago when the notes from the Cover-Up Conference first broke.

I no longer believe the Chinese are even principally responsible for this virus. Fauci and Collins are in this up to their necks: by contrast, no one in America has seriously focused on Chinese individuals. Possibly out of ignorance, possibly because the CCP aren't pussies who will tolerate reporters, definitely because they're frantically hiding something.
By contrast, the CCP has insisted that this is an American virus very early on, they have detailed knowledge of the terminally corrupt American governments, and they have been more honest than the CDC or WHO.

Sure, the end result is most likely going to be whomever Biden nominates on the court, but there are fundraising emails to be sent out. Months and months of fundraising emails.
Also, Manchin, fresh off of increasing his popularity in WV for being a bulwark against Biden, is not suddenly going to become a Biden lackey. He's gonna put on quite the show.

Also this: Two-dose COVID-19 vaccines may after an initial protective window become less effective against symptomatic infection by the Omicron variant than not getting jabbed at all, according to little-noticed findings in a federal study of how well boosters performed against different variants.

146Why did Fauci and Collins not recuse themselves from the question of the virus' origins, as they had a clear personal liability conflict of interest?
...abusing their offices to pay off henchmen ... to attack anyone pointing out their culpability? ++++
This is excessive and unreasonable and completely (and likely deliberately) mis-founded. Fauci is a pure scientist, as are the other top-level decision-makers in our public health infrastructure. A potential conflict of interest is not a conflict in fact, and scientists have the ability to discern and assess their own positions. Fauci, as a scientist of world-historic importance and talent, clearly determined that his involvement in the greatest crisis humanity has faced in generations is more valuable than an ill-conceived recusal to appease anti-scientific dogmatic laymen.
And "paying off henchmen?" Really? That it no way reflects the reality of optimizing the use of public funds to ensure that adequate focus is maintained on pandemic response instead of pointless and meaningless questions about origins that put the response at risk. That's not corrupt. It's rational, bold leadership.

Ultimately, the Biden junta's will get to choose a new justice. However, one never knows what kind of muck will appear during the confirmation hearings and McConnell needs some signs of resistance from his caucus to keep the money flowing and protect vulnerable GOPe senators like Moo Cow from AK.
So, do the Dems go for a high risk pick such as an open radical that will appease the left but piss off independent voters? or do they go for the safe pick? Will the Biden junta listen to Senators?
Breyer's retirement does not become effective to my understanding until the term ends in late June/July. Sometimes, a justice will keep their seat until a successor is successfully confirmed. This will also have an effect on the Dem's Senate's agenda by sucking up time and debate hours.
Whatever, the effect, Breyer's leaving will leave the left with only one effective advocate, Kagan, as new justices are to be seen and not heard, and Sotomayor has issues with her colleagues that limits her effectiveness to pull the court leftward.

Honest Question - how much have you read about the twenties and thirties ? And those were relatively civilized times.
Bud, we're just now getting back to the good old ways of how man screws with his fellow man via whatever means he has at hand. All that bad shit that you read about, if you pick up a history book ? That's how people are. That's what we do, whenever the thin veneer of civility is scratched away.
We're getting back to basic human nature. Granted, it's been a while.

_______________
Yep, the bullshit about protecting science, or the Chinese, or international harmony, or Chinese science, or the rest of it was transparent nonsense.
Fauci and Collins were simply protecting their own corrupt asses. Nothing more. They knew they paid for the dangerous gain of function experiments in the Chinese bioweapons lab. The dirty, third-world, insecure Chinese lab. And they knew they paid for it in violation of U.S. laws, and with U.S. taxpayers dollars. And they didn't want people to know what they had done. So they lied, and they dodged and weaved, and they put out phony articles (without their names on them) and they lied some more.

They technology behind mRNA was being developed and researched for years in conjunction with cancer treatments, the problem was they didn't work and were dangerous. So they repurposed them to create the garbage "vaccines" that are being forced on people across the world.

>Which is, in a way, too bad. Warp Speed produced a lot more than the vaccine. The monoclonal antibodies also got an acceleration from it. Refilling the National Strategic Stockpile came out of it. Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at January 26, 2022 12:43 PM (DU+/6)
You're not wrong, but the name is terrible for encompassing the development of an entirely new drug for human use, that was widely rolled out to a significant percentage of the entire human population. Not hard to see the implication of shoddy, rushed work in the name.
Also, I've done a bit more looking into the FDA revocation of the monoclonal antibodies. Some source who I tend to put a bit of trust in regarding this topic have said that the mABS not only don't work against omicron, but actually enhance the disease, which is why they yanked it. That's plausible, but why would the FDA care about that now? They let the mRNA shots stand, and mABS are basically just the end results of the mRNA shot mechanism, put directly in your body.

Take a look at California where black power has been diminished in favor of other members of the coalition, as Hispanics and Asians increase their percentage of the population, they will come to power either as Dems or Republicans. Elites, including potential candidates, are sensitive to which party network offers better access to the good jobs. Not really, one of the irritants that limited Justice Douglas in later years from any court power was his demands to go remote during the summer to drink his liver out. Douglas demanded that all court business be sent to him via courier. Stevens in later years became known as Justice Fedex and that limited his role as well.
Plus, justices have to more or less forgo any external speeches, etc. except to law related forums. Take a look at those programs and you really have to enjoy the law to want to go.
RBG was a special case as she was senior and competent but as junior members, you get the shittier cases to write opinions. Incompetents on the court get even shittier cases and have little effect on court decisions.

Actually, it does make a difference. The court is like a long term polygamist marriage--you have to give and take until you are senior enough to do your own thing. Even there, assholes rarely prosper and get to write opinions on such things as Native American law or boring regulatory cases. Smart justices like Kagan, Rehnquist, or Scalia tend to move the court in their direction even if they lose at first. To do that, you have to disagree without being disagreeable, and work toward the long term to change the law. Not that appealing to a lot of politico types.

But there have been rumors of him leaving the court for years, and its no surprise to see him do it now. What concerns me much more is Justice Thomas is also aging and he's our best juror. I don't see ANYONE replacing him with like quality, no matter who is president.

I'm not in medicine but I don't think the standard PCR tests they do can tell if it is omicron or the delta strain and I also think some people do still get the older strain. So unless they are doing a more specific test for people who announce they feel really clobbered by covid to see if they have delta and might benefit from the monoclonal antibodies it most likely is just politics to withhold them from states or certain states.
*IF* they encouraged other treatments instead of only hit or miss Remdesivir which like the MABs is an IV treatment with all the risks of any IV infusion or injection it would hardly matter if they held MABs in reserve and only gave them for confirmed delta strain, quite sick, patients. But Fauci is evil and the rest are either dumb or also evil/greedy. Hell of a world when one feels it is risky to go to a hospital when sick.

A lot of the calculus that goes into Scotus nominations is whether your pick can be confirmed, and whether the administration will suffer political damage from that pick.
Garland is one of those potential nominations that could go either way--one problem is that his tenure as AG is controversial and a lot of DOJ memos etc. would have to be revealed. Another is that he presents political problems to the current move of the Dems toward intersectionality.
Furthermore, Garland would more or less be sidelined as being required to recuse himself over a fair number of cases coming down the pipeline as those were overseen by him as AG. That was somewhat of a problem with Kagan, it would be greater with Garland.
What would be in his favor is past service in the DC circuit, and familiar with a lot of the current cases, etc. as well as being politically in tune with Dems.

>this is dialectics, simple dialectics. It is very simple dialectics: 1 through 9, no maybes, no supposes, no fractions. You can't travel to space. You can not go to space with fractions.

118 Axshullay, Epoch Times reported all of this a year ago. Fox just caught up.
And the total that Fauci's minions were paid for the coverup is close to $50 million.
.... of OUR money.

Because I believe in people's better nature my guess is (1) Breyer has been threatened by the Left to get out now [or offered his own RBG movie], (2) someone has leaked the potential abortion decision to the Exec Branch and Dems want a grand show about abortion and (3) Dems know their window of opportunity to screw the nation through the judiciary is very, very short.

227 This busty, black-haired lady in a loose knit top thinks Fauci should be tried and convicted for crimes against humanity, but also knows that her wish will never come true:

Stomping down the truth that the virus came from the Wuhan lab protects China, but it also protects scientists in general and Fauci in particular.
If the world knew that virologists had accidentally killed millions of people, and wrecked the global economy, people might demand that they not play with viruses anymore.
And it would be harder to blame Trump.

@614 my thoughts exactly. Don't get me wrong: China is asshole. But this stinks of Fauci and friends thinking "we are so very clever, we can engineer the next pandemic virus faster than nature in a controlled environment, and have a vaccine/cure ready to roll when nature catches up to me, Anthony Fauci, super genius)". Then, when it escaped the lab (and you could basically see Jeff Goldblum tut tutting "I told you so") they had to do everything they could to CYA
