43 Mornin', filk,

Slept like a drugged man last night, and yet I didn't even take any melatonin. Helps that I slept only 5 hours on Thursday. Anyway! Up early, getting some coffee; plan to go work out, shave, etc. Chekov the Ailing Codger Cat is here, enduring. He got his 4th shot of the Adequan yesterday. I dunno if it's helping him, or if I'm doing it right. The stuff seems to be going in under his skin -- I certainly get the needle in, and the liquid is not on his fur afterward. He just seems about the same as he has since late last year.

The apt. management sent plumbers yesterday and fixed the water leak from my bathroom ceiling. Of course now the bathroom is filthy. I should really insist that the management send someone to clean that up.

Me too. When I worked a 6-to-midnight shift at a local radio station, I found it convenient to stop at the 24-hour grocery on the way home. But Da Swamp pretty much stopped the 24-hour thing except for a couple of Walgreens and some of the Walmart Neighborhood Markets years ago, no doubt due to the high incidence of five-finger discounting. WM and the best local grocery chain used to open at 6 am, but the Coof interrupted that, and now it's 7 am.

Exactly. I've worked hard to be a grownup, at least most of the time. I don't want to dress like Bart Simpson. The only time I wear shorts is working out. The rest of the time, I wear slacks or jeans, a collared shirt (polo or oxford), and clean boat shoes, dress shoes, or cowboy boots.

There's a meme floating around comparing Cary Grant in elegant suit, topcoat, and homburg, to a modern "male" with shorts, T-shirt, spiky hair, and rings in its nose. "What Happened??"

I didn't have to pay mortg. this month because I refied last month. So I took that money and bought the kids a freezer and a gift card for Sams for a few hun. Kids are hurting right now. They had no idea I was doing this. While picking up freezer, I get a text from kidlet to borrow a hun.

Texted her a bit later I had dropped it off at the house. She was at the library. After she got home, the only response I got was a text, thank you. I was sorta butt hurt yesterday.

Yeah, I was talking to my sister about the stuff (she lives in FL) and she was all excited and gonna take her medical mary jane card and score some weed. She seemed disappointed that hemp oil is over the counter and legal. No bong required. It's an edible.

There was actually a time in the early days of the USA that growing hemp was required by law. Don't ask me for what, maybe to make rope to hang politicians. Sometimes the old ways are the best.

197 About the weather... I think the word went out to start ginning up our next crisis since COVID is all but dead. From now on weather, any weather will be "severe." The winter storm brewing that has the potential to bring heavy snow and possibly ice to the Carolinas, Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia and points north (notable the Capitol City) is a major story now. It's not unheard of, but the media is making it sound horrible and of course, all because of global warming.

Here in the Bluegrass we may see a dusting.
Posted by: Martini Farmer at January 15, 2022 07:44 AM (BFigT)

This began back in 1989, with the absurd theatrics of the first big "Global Warming!!!" push by the Left. Since then, step by step, the MFM have gotten into the habit of sensationalizing and emotionalizing *every* story, no matter how trivial. Which is why no one with any sense pays any attention to them anymore, even on the weather. They no longer remember how to do anything else but setting their hair on fire while nailing one foot to the floor.

198 Blaster, we haven't had any supply issues in the grocery stores that others have, so I didn't attribute it to FJB. It's just mindless panic that we're maybe getting some snow and ice. Plus, this area has had an explosion in population moving into 100-unit cookie cutter subdivisions. Our sleepy, quiet area doesn't exist anymore. And I can tell it at the grocery store.

Then they started to name winter storms, which was a novel way to get more airtime. It's still stupid, but whatever. They also started to coin terms meteorologists don't really use, but are sort of descriptive for non-technical people. That they're misleading is not the point.

Now... they even name thunderstorms. Pitiful.

In terms of *real* weather cycles, rather than the global warming idiocy, long term data suggest a roughly 60 year sine wave in temperatures, 30 up and 30 down. The late 40's to the late 70's were the last cold wave, with the winters you remember. Most believe that the ones who pushed "global warming" knew this very well, and knew that when they began the Global Warming hype in the 80's we were just beginning the 30 year warm trend of the cycle. The plan was to take control and push a bunch of legislation through, and then take credit when temperatures began to drop in 30 years or so.

Of course this means that now the next 30 winters are going to be increasingly cold, no matter what we do. They were always going to be.

Interestingly, the requirements for getting this station onto a network that indirectly feeds into NOAA is weirdly specific. Lots of information (some personal) has to be provided which is a non-starter. Then, there's a whole shit ton of quality assurance work to do. As if that matters to NOAA? Then, your data is "monitored" for QA and if you're deemed to be "unreliable" for some period time (maybe your station is being cleaned, batteries are dead, birds shit all over it, whatever) it's pulled and you have to go through the whole process again to get it restored.

Fuck. That. Shit.

You need good information for Observing and orienting, Calvinism for the wisdom to Decide on the correct recourse.

The Left has unleashed evil on us in all forms. "Firearms" is the placeholder for the means to defend against evil, freedom of information gives us the tools to see and understand what is going on, and Godly wisdom gives us the heart, mind and soul to act.

That is why the Left is destroying faith, free speech and promoting crime and violence - to take away Press, Firearms and Calvinism.

Did anyone catch the Twitter thread about the dude at one of these Big Techs that went on a long rant about life behind the Big Tech Iron Curtain? I thought it was a parody since it essentially drew a picture of all of the worst pathologies of DEI, CRT, Wokism and Only One Narrative Allowed. In short, no one is productive, everyone is self-absorbed and miserable, and they want everyone around them to be unproductive and miserable too.

This is the future that they desire - total estrangement from God and the hellish consequences of it.

281 In a totally classless move, Alex Berenson when after Dr Malone on Ingraham's show last night saying he wasn't the inventor of the MRNA vaccine and trying to say his promotion of ivermectin didn't do him any justice. This was a grocery store in a suburb north of Pittsburgh, so it was far enough out of the rural areas that people had lost all common sense. I was always waiting for some burbfloozy to pull up in her minivan and say she needed a 55 gallon drum of salt, since she'd probably be stuck on the mountain until spring and have to live off the land.

I agree. Frankly, I was never got on ivermectin as a treatment for COVID. The initial study was demonstrably fraudulent and many of the following studies were based off that one. That being said, I don't understand the very emotional, complete, authoritarian resistance to seeing if it really works- because it seems like it may. If there's even a chance it does and you have an interest in public health- why would you be so vehemently resistant to seeing if it does. That kicks off every BS Detector I have. Now this most recent study that Malone cited seems very effective, if it holds up. The whole thing stinks.

OK, so you are focused on the externals. Doctrinally speaking, Calvin systematized the doctrines of Grace, which included the foundational understanding that all of humanity is fallen, prefers darkness to light, and hates righteousness while embracing evil.

Only through the grace of God and illumination by the Paraclete can people understand the things of God. Seeing the world through that lens gives a huge advantage to understanding evil and theodicy.

Repeating his works exceeds Pixy's comment limit.

Much of the world is not monotheistic.

Billions are, and a very large proportion believe in a formula of good works and faith will merit them heaven.

The American Religion is nominally Christian and believes roughly in a Free Will model where people can self-elect and game God into granting them salvation.

Calvinism reflects Scripture that posits that God has chosen for himself a community in eternity past. The workings out of this temporal age is the process of salvation/sanctification for the Elect.

You can accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior and ask God for grace. He chooses to grant you grace or not. You have no way of knowing. Once in grace, it can never be revoked, because it was God's choice and God does not make mistakes. You can go on and be a mass murderer, FJB or Tony Fauci, and never be out of grace. On the other hand, if you are not granted grace, you could be a living Saint on Earth, but you will still burn in hell when you die. Earthly works matter naught for grace. And God has only chosen 186,000 humans to grant grace to, so you will probably burn in hell.

I love listening to the Lord of Spirits podcast, which is really informative. The presenters are two Eastern Orthodox priests and while they make an effort to make the show open to all Christians, now and then they can't help themselves and take shots at Calvinists. It's pretty funny.

I can't speak for others than claim Calvinism. Christ did say that we would have trials and tribulations. I don't know of any faith system that makes someone exempt from that. In fact, it seems that all of the Apostles were martyred or exiled.

371 One of my former church elders was a Calvinist. I couldn't quite square the doctrine.

You can accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior and ask God for grace.

TBH, that sounds nothing like Calvinism. That isn't Free Will. I have no idea what that is other than random thoughts.

The Scriptures clearly state that no one seeks after God (there are bunch of other supporting passages of that say gist) If no one seeks after God, then why do some people seek after God? Clearly there must be a change of heart. Calvinism posits that the Paraclete first changes the heart and illuminates one to then become that John 3:16 "for all who believe" types.

The absolute best analogy of Election is the narrative of Abraham sending out his servant to secure Isaac a wife.

It's long been a common heresy; even in the gospels, the disciples ask Jesus "why is this man blind, did his parents sin, or was it him?" And Jesus politely says "you don't know what you're talking about." Joel Osteen and his imitators follow a theology-lite version of this. In the *actual* scriptures, the lesson from the beginning to the end is that those who are close to God suffer, and those who are closest suffer the most. (Take up your cross and Follow Me) But that's never been a message that wealthy, self satisfied people have ever wanted to hear.

We used to have a Lutheran chaplain in our squadron and we'd talk theology from time to time. And of course we teased each other about it.

Every now and then he's make a point and I'd say "Chaplain, you've convinced me. I'm done with Rome and want to become Lutheran. My problem is how do I know which Lutheran church is the right one? There's so many to choose from!"

He's chuckle and give me the current count of American denominations.

379 College kid has 3 interviews for her 1st real summer job next week (trying to be a summer camp counselor after spending high school volunteering and alternating babysitting and writing an e-book for money). She only submitted 3 resumes Friday, and got instant desires from all 3 places and has interviews Tuesday/Wednesday.

I think the seasonal and minimum wage market still may be a job lookers' market, but I guess I'll know if all 3 offer her the job...or none of them do, and my kid goes back to looking. I was still shocked at the speed that all 3 said "please interview"...I figured she'd only hear back from 1 out of 3...I stopped her from sending more resumes til we handle these, since they were the top 3...

383 Frankly, I was never got on ivermectin as a treatment for COVID. The initial study was demonstrably fraudulent and many of the following studies were based off that one. That being said, I don't understand the very emotional, complete, authoritarian resistance to seeing if it really works- because it seems like it may.
_____________

I read an article a few weeks ago that described how ivermectin compares to Pfizer's pricey new FDA-approved covid treatment drug Paxlovid.

Both drugs are protease inhibitors. PI's work by targeting certain enzymes and binding with them, which then prevents the virus from replicating. Ivermectin has an excellent safety record and has been used successfully for years to treat a variety of parasitic infections (in both people and animals. The CDC's website recommended that all immigrants to the U.S. from certain parasite-heavy regions be prophylactically treated with ivermectin upon arrival here). Ivermectin also has certain anti-inflammatory properties, which Paxlovid does not have.

The science writer of the article concluded that Paxlovid is just a more expensive, less effective version of ivermectin.

Draw your own conclusions.

393 You can go on and be a mass murderer, FJB or Tony Fauci, and never be out of grace.

This is that huge argument between Rome and Protestants where both sides are talking past each other.

Rome has a formula of Works+Faith. Protestantism/Calvinism is just Faith, which invites mocking and ridicule saying basically one could be a mass murderer and never be out of Grace.

The whole point and purpose of sanctification is to be perfected to be in the image of Christ. It would seem if someone were to backslip into murdering people, that the person never was saved in the first place and wasn't being perfected.

397 Regarding Election (the important kind, not the mundane farce we keep repeating here to pick which puppets to worship)...

I always read it as boiling down to this: You can't do it alone, but you can't just sit back and let it happen either. Any good relationship has got to be a team effort. Similar to the "Faith vs. Works" argument that sometimes flares up. Embrace the power of And. Nobody would sit around arguing about if you really need gasoline or motor oil to make you car work. You need both.

And any talk of "pre"-determination is bound to devolve into logical absurdity since the Divine doesn't live on our timeline. There is no "pre" and "post" when you're on a completely different axis altogether, so don't worry about who is Chosen and who isn't. That's not our problem and we can't have any control over it, so "Act As If" (A nicer way of saying "Fake it 'til you Make it", maybe?)
