The Morning Rant: My Breakup Letter To The Salvation Army

Conservative media has given much coverage recently to The Salvation Army’s heartbreaking embrace of critical race theory. One example from The Federalist is at this link.

Unsurprisingly, donations plummeted this Christmas season. ”Salvation Army 'Red Kettle' donations lagging after posting racism guide.”

The evaporation of financial support speaks more strongly than any written words, but I also felt it necessary to personally write The Salvation Army to let them know of my disappointment and disgust as I suspend further financial contributions to this once great charity. This is the letter I sent to the local Salvation Army commander last month.

Dear Major ___________:

I have been donating to The Salvation Army for decades. I have long admired the work it does for the those in the greatest need of food, shelter, and salvation. For the past several years, 100% of my United Way contribution has gone to The Salvation Army. Until now.

I am choosing to suspend all further contributions to The Salvation Army, and I will find another local charity that has not embraced the racial divisiveness and anti-Americanism that TSA is now promoting.

How did TSA ever get to the point where it is promoting the hatred and racial animus of “Let’s Talk About Racism”? The “clarification memo” from TSA when they pulled that book “for appropriate review” makes it embarrassingly clear that TSA is still committed to the anti-Christian notion that people of certain races are flawed, and should feel guilt based simply on the color of their skin.

That is gross and offensive, as is the fact that TSA now castigates people as being racist if they aspire to be color-blind. That is so contrary to the teachings of Jesus.

My heart is broken that The Salvation Army has strayed so far, and has embraced such evil.

Please remove me from all your mailing lists. I will not abide racist, anti-American solicitations coming to my house.

37 100% agree. I grew up with TSA, my father sitting on their local board, and working closely with them for decades on disaster prep and response. We rang kettles EVERY year until I turned 18, and I contributed yearly to them- the ONLY non-profit I donated to (the federal government program was a disaster by then).

During Hurricane Katrina, TSA proved a mighty cohort in the response- outshining the feds, Red Cross, and others. I served as an advisor to SecDef and CoS at the time, and we held high regard for what TSA did then.

How far the mighty have fallen... God bless them, but they have lost me and my influence in contributing to them.

39 Good letter. Protestants except for Anglicans generally don't believe in asking the intercessions of Saints , but I don't confine my views of Saints to those canonized by the RCC, and I think it would be fine to ask William and Catherine Booth, founders of the SA, to put in a good work with the Lord that there would be repentance among those who wrote and supported this letter and that the SA would come back to its foundational roots.

55 They need to eliminate the "International Social Justice Commission" before I will consider donating to them again. 2021 was the first year in a very long time I did not give anything to them, and that trend will hold until they stop this nonsense. It is clearly a rotten borough within the Salvation Army. Any division of any organization that deliberately situates itself in close proximity to the UN to make sure they can cooperate with that organization on "international justice" issues is rotten to the core.

Because that still serves the purpose, and why the subversion is so valuable. They subvert an organization and then either:
1. They succeed and the organization becomes their tool
2. They fail, and the organization dies

In the first case, they gain an asset. In the second case, they eliminate an uncaptured or enemy organization. It's a win/win scenario. In one case they win more, but in neither case is it a defeat.

That's where I give my "homeless" designated donations each year in both time and money or direct food prep giving (which I purchase and make)...my Church has more members willing to give a check than pitch in directly right now, so I tend to try to fill the unmet need each year...and this year, it's the food making and delivery vs the check...

172 I've got $500 that says our death numbers have been completely normal throughout the last two years, and it's all been paperwork.

I'll take that bet in a heartbeat.

Or actually the end of a heartbeat, because life insurance companies are noticing massive increase in insured member deaths that have been blamed on deferred or cancelled treatment of much of the normal stuff that justified the existence of a large hospital system.

Who knows what maladies have been accelerated by our new genetically modified population?

It's a history of words and origins of phrases, but it's written in a way that ties decades together. Really, really enjoyable, and written in the '70s before everything became ridiculous.

One I learned? Dixie Cups were named after the useless Confederate currency, because they were worthless and could be thrown away after the single use.

302 I gave to the SA for decades and felt so guilty when I ceased to give in the fall, especially before the holidays.

But the SA ado inspired me to look more closely at a number of Christian-based (?) organizations that I've been donating to on a regular basis. CAP has America-Corps members who may be locals who certainly need jobs and access to education. However, I do know that in the past a lot of government employees making very decent salaries pushed their own kids into America-Corps due to possible benefits including student loan forbearance, scholarship assistance.

And another Catholic group I've been donating do for at-risk youth (mental health) seems like it, too, went off the rails in the land of wokeness.

Maybe it's been this way for a while and I hadn't noticed. Maybe I'm being too touchy. I'll work it out.

From there the rot only got worse it seems. I too used to donate to the Sally. I'd been helped a few times and seen others helped so I felt I was really only paying back. Once I ran into un Christian attitudes by people employed by the sally to interface with those they were supposed to help and their attitude (imagine DMV crossed with an HR department) towards them that clearly came across I could see where this would go. Yeah, it's pretty cheap here. The only DIY wash I could find in the B'ham suburbs last September was $3.50 or more.

However, I don't trust those drive-through washes. They may say "touchless," but I don't believe it. And you don't know what kind of particles have been caught in those brushes from previous vehicles. When I bought the Buick, they offered to fill it up and take it to the car wash. I said, "Which wash?" "The automatic one up the highway." "Never mind. I'll take the gas; skip the wash."

Embrace Jesus again and don't worry about tax exemptions.

If it was explained to people that because of secular influence the (insert charity/church name here) no longer provides a tax exemption certification.
What this means is that Christians will donate and not receive a benefit back for it. And this is how it should be. No one should receive a benefit for charity. Any who complain then they aren't really Christian then are they?

I believe ALL churches and charities should do this if they provide and display Christian icons and symbols thus claiming an adherence to Christ's teachings. If it is a secular charity then they will do what they wish.

This removes the government from any influence over what the Church does or says or conducts it's business. They then have little threat. It is expensive due to property taxes but there are ways to alleviate that and donations are a gift and not a tax shelter anyway. Too many times have we seen government try to strangle churches using the IRS as the rope.

370 A fatal shooting of a black man in NC has the usual suspects ginning up the usual hate.

According to reports, an off-duty sheriff's deputy was in his truck with his wife and child, driving on a street, when a black man jumped up on the front of the truck screaming. The man broke off the windshield wiper on the truck and tried to use it to break the front window. The deputy shot the man, and called cops.

There was a woman who was at the scene (not clear if she was there the whole time or came upon it after the shooting), who was identified as "a medical professional" who rendered first aid to the victim, using a towel supplied by the deputy/shooter.

It wasn't reported if the deputy/shooter was white or not, but given the accusations flying about, seems like a safe bet. The usual agitators are claiming that cops "failed to render aid" to the black man when they arrived on the scene (because he was already being attended to by the woman with medical credentials). They're also suggesting that the deputy/shooter lied about what happened, based on the fact that his truck's computer apparently didn't register any collision when the black guy jumped up on the truck.

495 I don't understand the purpose of that insult by whoever thought it up. It's to suggest his wife cheated on him and his kids are bastards. I get that. If it's not true not difference does it make?. Is there any evidence to suggest it is?. Honestly, it would be like someone saying to my husband-how's your wife and son which sounds like a normal inquiry because my son is not the child of another man.

If this is true then the last 2 years will seem like a picnic in comparison with what will come.

A hit man. By the way, for those that have never heard it, find a recording of Ella Fitzgerald doing a live concert in Berlin, where she forgets the lyrics to "Mac the Knife", but never drops a note and carries on, improvising. It is amazing.

511 Embrace Jesus again and don't worry about tax exemptions.

As noted above, most of us don't get deductions anyway because the standard deduction is so big. But the way I look at it, if you did get a deduction, you should increase your donation by the amount of the deduction. Think of it as redirecting a tiny bit of Uncle Sam's largesse.

515 I meant, take the chains off the white churches and let them electioneer from the pulpit like the black churches do, but without the risk of criminality that they would face, along with losing their tax exempt status. I want to see pastors throw the full weight of their church behind Trump or DeSantis like black churches do for Maxine Waters.
Posted by: rickb223 at January 10, 2022 12:27 PM (uXonU)

I see what you're saying, but it made me think that the easiest solution is get rid of the deduction altogether, and let them say what they want.
