If the January 6 Riots Are "Terrorism" Because They Used Violence to Force A Political Outcome, Why Aren't the Year of BLM/Antifa Riots Also Terrorism?

A question righteously asked by Doc_0.

John Hayward

@Doc_0

If the 1/6 riots were an act of "terrorism" - using force to achieve political ends - then so were the BLM riots.

The difference is that the latter were successful - and their success was a bloody disaster for Americans, especially black Americans.

The grotesque spectacle Democrats and their media are putting on today is not a condemnation of "terrorism," or "insurrection," or "attacking elections." They aren't planning to say a single damn word about the very recent times THEY did all of those things.

This is all about crass political opportunism, and reinforcing the claim that left-wingers have a monopoly on "righteous" political violence. When lefties use violence on YOU, it's "mostly peaceful" and you should stop whining and walk it off - even when they kill people.

I've never had any patience for rioters or political terrorists of any stripe, from Occupy Wall Street through BLM, Antifa, or the 1/6 crowd. NOBODY should think they can achieve political goals through violence and destruction - but that's not the America we live in, is it?

That sure as hell isn't the message sent by an obsessive hyper-politicized focus on one act of political violence that personally discomfited the ruling elite, while other terrorism is minimized, excused, indulged, and rewarded.

People outside the Ruling Class bubble are sick of this crap. Did any of the geniuses who planned the big Insurrectionmas holiday bash stop to think, "I wonder what someone who lost their home and business - or a family member - to BLM riots will think when they watch this?"

No, of course not - because those people don't matter AT ALL to the elite and ruling Party, except maybe as votes to be "harvested" after they finish dismantling our election system. The message today is that only THIS ONE violent outburst matters. Only this one is contemptible.

And only this one is supposed to reflect negatively on people who weren't at the Capitol on 1/6. Only this one was "caused" by political rhetoric. Only this one "justifies" speech controls and punitive political action against people who committed no crime.

The people running today's media and political circus events are much more aggressively, and effectively, using an act of violence to achieve political ends than the boobs who perpetrated that violence a year ago. The rioters didn't have a rational endgame. The opportunists do.

By all means, throw the book at EVERYONE who thinks they can impose their ideology by breaking the law - but we need to worry a lot more about the people writing the laws, and what they really think about political violence. They most certainly do not reject it entirely. /end

11 Of course - the 2020 election was conducted under an implicit (and sometimes explicit - looking at you, Kameltoe Harris) threat that if the leftists didn't get what they wanted, the rioting would resume in response to a Trump re-election. This is one of several reasons why the Biden Presidency is not legitimate by U.S. standards (the ones we judge other countries' elections by, I mean).

That's not the only difference. In fact, that difference is likely meaningless.

The real difference is that one group is aligned with, enabled by and under the protection of the Complex, and the other group is an enemy of the Complex.

That is all. If you're on the team, there is no law. If you're not on the team, everything is illegal. That's all. It's very simple.

The argument laid out is perfectly fine and correct, but it is irrelevant given how the system works. Facts don't matter. Rightness doesn't matter. Law doesn't matter. You're on the team or you're a non-person.

59 I realized the hypocrisy of the left long ago when I confronted a union rep about how they only difference between them and those they oppose is that they want the other folks job. They want to be in charge not change anything.

He hated me from that day forth for exposing him.

And ever since i've applied that perspective and realized that the left does not play by any rules that have been created to be fair. They don't want to win fairly. They want to win at any cost to anyone else and they will do whatever needs to be done for that to happen.

They do not care if they have to lie, cheat, steal, murder. They will destroy anyone and anything in their path and not think a thing about it.

That the Republicans never seemed to see that or if they did they did not react to it has always stumped me as to why did they ignore what the left was doing?

I still don't have an answer. I'm sure it has something to do with them actually being on the same side or they think they're on the same side but they're not and those on the right don't find that out until too late.

Yup.
For those who wonder why Trump has not been more clear about his support for the Jan6th people.
One question, do you really know what happened on Jan 6? I saw some photos of peaceful people wandering around the building. Grandmas, and the guy with the body paint, and head dress. But we also hear about people that broke down barriers. Breaking through windows. We hear about people threatening cops.
If I were Trump, I would be worried about blanket statements. If he says, I support those people. Then they show that one guy, maybe a fed, who is breaking down a barrier or threatening a cop? It was a complicated situation, that many of us here feel was an op. And as one of JJs articles mentioned, it may not be over. "Occupy" is the operative word for every political action the liberals make, sometimes figuratively but very often literally. Occupy as a term is associated at least in my mind with the left. It's a thing they do.

They willfully misunderstand the 1/6 protestors as having "occupied" (and not even for very long, as occupations go) the captiol simply because it suits their narrative to call it terrorism, and because they are actually terrified at what will happen if the right does start to occupy places.

I would add that the two times I have seen the right occupy - Madison over the teachers union issue and Austin over an abortion bill--the right won the battle. I'm sure the left knows and hates that.

It just seems that everywhere we look we are surrounded by those who will take away our freedoms, our rights, our lives while claiming they're doing it for the best. Best for whom? It just makes me want to give up I feel so overwhelmed and beaten at every corner. So to see those we once praised being now attacked makes it more apparent we cannot rely on anyone it seems.

225 I think mostly because we don't feel that we are a large enough and solid enough and clear enough about what our goals are and what we're willing to do to achieve those goals.

One part of the left's plan, which was executed brilliantly, was their destruction of pretty much every conservative institution and movement.

It wasn't that long ago that a group like Operation Rescue could throw a protest that would actually scare the left.

But through blackmail, bribery, and social intimidation they've taken down all those organizations and all those would be leaders, except I suppose Trump and maybe DeSantis.

Posted by: ace at January 06, 2022 01:52 PM (0G13K)

But where was the riot? In the tunnels, there is video of the woman being beaten up, pulled away by peaceful protestors, and then grabbed back by the cops to be beaten again...that was the most violent video I've seen (what happened after that precipitating act).
So, is that really a "riot"? Or is that self defense against an aggressive attack?
Look, I'm not saying anyone should have been there. I also encouraged all I knew to stay the heck out of DC that day b/c it screamed "something bad is gonna go down from some side"...
So, all who were there were dumb or naive...but should we really demonize our own side b/c folks were so enthusiastic for it they got duped...and then kept getting duped that day...

238 In all of this it is not stated enough that the fraudulent election is the linchpin to everything. If the election was stolen then the protest was valid and everything done to counter it is wrong.

So the election can never be fraudulent. That would destroy the entire narrative arc. And no election can ever be allowed to go the other way because that would also point to 2020 being fishy. Everyone knows it was stolen. But that doesn't matter. They've constructed an overarching narrative like global warming, covid, CRT, all those things are BS but can never be denied. They are unfalsifiable components of the left's evolving religion. The cult and all its adherents will do whatever they think is necessary to end all heresies. The media are their prophets.

That's why the media and big tech are fighting tooth and nail 24/7 to make us feel we're in the minority. Ban us, censor us, silence our voices. In reality, we outnumber them exponentially. But it's hard to feel that way when 90% of any information we have access to tells us the opposite. Along with our "opposition" party. And it's nearly impossible to find like voices or organize like they (easily) do in any meaningful manner. That's why we've got to start at square one. Locally. Friends and neighbors. We need a foundation, an infrastructure. Because the last one we built has been hijacked.

354 Impeachment 3.0

Democrats quietly explore barring Trump from office over Jan. 6
https://t.co/5zWJyujNpS

In the year since the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, a handful of Democrats, constitutional scholars and pro-democracy advocates have been quietly exploring how a post-Civil War amendment to the Constitution might be used to disqualify former President Trump from holding office again.

Calls for Congress to take steps to strip Trump of his eligibility, which reached a crescendo in the aftermath of the Jan. 6 riot, have since decreased. But those who remain engaged on the issue say discussions about applying Section 3 of the 14th Amendment have been ongoing.

"If anything, the idea has waxed and waned," said Laurence Tribe, a constitutional expert at Harvard Law School. "I hear it being raised with considerable frequency these days both by media commentators and by members of Congress and their staffs, some of whom have sought my advice on how to implement Section 3."

No one forced him to make a statement. You want to put something out there so you're on the record for what this is about, go for it. Also I'm not aware of him trying to walk anything back.

We're the elephants, Ted. We remember. And we remember all that occurred on election day and the two months afterward where Trump was denied even the fig leaf of a show trial over the election irregularities, in state after state and at the federal level.

You want to couch the response to that on inauguration day, the day that Pence and the GOP (you too) finalized the act of stealing the election as "terrorism" then be my guest. But the idea that we should continue to support you through the system of elections in this nation has immediately become hilariously ironic.

That's what this is all about. Or one large part of it. Soften the target, prepare the field, for arresting or charging Trump.

Secondly, to prepare for further DOJ actions against conservative activism. That is, pave the way for the next stage of totalitarianism.

372 That was an interesting sidebar thing on underground powerlines.

At my university a crew was pouring insolation down into a power junction that went to the labs and a few windtunnels. They screwed something up so when they turned it back on an electrical arc exploded up out of the ground, up the side of a nearby steel warehouse and then up into the air where it was seen by a bunch of students throughout the campus. People saw a flash in the daytime a mile away. I heard it. Luckily no one was near it when they turned it back on so no one was harmed.

In terms of the general populace, usually it takes something like famine. A revolt lead by elites requires a combination of perceived weakness in the central government and threat to status. Ambitious people in positions of power will also informally revolt (turn their territory into an effectively autonomous region) if conditions are ripe.

I've waited a year for him to say something about - oh, I don't know - maybe due process for the people being held illegally as political prisoners? They had no weapons. They hurt nobody. Worse case somebody swiped some beer from Pelosi's refrigerator - and the laptop is still kinda an iffy thing.

Hell, you don't even need to say 1/6 was right or wrong, just get fucking justice for these people. Fish or cut bait.

Yes, I said that. One guy. I'm wondering what Ted Cruz HAS done lately as a senator? What vote has he cast that made a difference? What bill has he submitted that made a difference? He's been part of committees and has spoken tough, yet it's done nothing. He is now calling everyone at the Trump rally that marched to the capitol TERRORISTS. Patriotic American Citizens are now TERRORISTS.

I think that trumps a whole hell of a lot of 'words' he's thrown down. In the stolen words of Barack Owebama, "JUST WORDS."

477 This needs to be what Republicans do on day once when they take over the house and Senate next year, hell they should run on it. Form the 2020 commission to see so funded the riots, who planned them, who let all the criminals get out with no jail time, who paid to bail them out. Then when they get the presidency in 2024 start charging every single one, from politicians to celebrities.

Republicans need to start acting like Democrats, no more of this shit where they get power and then want to not ruffle any feathers of the commies on the other side who actually want them dead.

I've never had any patience for rioters or political terrorists of any stripe, from Occupy Wall Street through BLM, Antifa, or the 1/6 crowd. NOBODY should think they can achieve political goals through violence and destruction - but that's not the America we live in, is it?
------------------

No, child. This country was birthed by political violence by her Founders.

For 150 years, she was kept free of petite tyrants by political violence. Then, by the end of the second World War, the tyrants figured out that if they erected a standing army of career mercenaries loyal to their paymasters, they could rule in earnest, as most Americans would fear the reprisal of their own military.

And that's where we are today. Real Conservatives keep asking why no one has the testicular fortitude to start shooting. The answer is easy, our own US Military.
