Several swimmers on the University of Pennsylvania women's team considered boycotting their final home meet of the season next week, DailyMail.com can reveal
The boycott would be in protest over the advantages of transgender teammate Lia Thomas, who has crushed records since competing on the women's team
Thomas previously competed on the UPenn men's swim team for three years as Will before transitioning
The swimmers ultimately decided against a boycott, for fear that it would keep them out of the Ivy League championship in February
They've discussed alternatives such as doing a false start or not swimming the event
A source close to the team told DailyMail.com, 'There is a feeling among some of the girls that they should make some sort of statement'
'Knowing they do not have backing from the school or NCAA, they're reluctant to jeopardize their opportunity to make the elite Ivy League squad,' a source said
A parent of a UPenn swimmer said, 'It's possible the swimmers may end up doing nothing because they are so afraid to be perceived as transphobic'

A group of swimmers on the University of Pennsylvania women's team were so upset over the advantages of transgender teammate Lia Thomas they considered boycotting their final home meet of the season next week, DailyMail.com has learned.
'They've been ignored by both Penn and the NCAA, and there is a feeling among some of the girls that they should make some sort of statement, seize the opportunity while they have a spotlight on them to make their feelings about the issue known,' a source close to the team of 41 women told DailyMail.com.
They've been discussing various possibilities for protest at the January 8 meet, wanting to express their opposition to NCAA rules that allow Thomas to compete on the women's team after completing one year of hormonal therapy, the source said.
They ultimately decided against a boycott, for fear that it would keep them out of the Ivy League championship, where the team's top 17 swimmers - out of a total of 41 - will compete in February.
'Knowing they do not have backing from the school or NCAA, they're reluctant to jeopardize their opportunity to make the elite Ivy League squad,' the source said.

Meanwhile, a USA swimming official resigned over the NCAA's continued indulgence of allowing a biological male to demolish girls in swimming.

The USA Swimming official who resigned over transgender U Penn swimmer Lia Thomas is speaking out, saying that allowing men to compete as women is "destroying women's swimming."
Cynthia Millen resigned last week, saying she could not support allowing Thomas to compete as a woman. But now, Millen is speaking out, revealing more of her disagreements with college sports for allowing the transgender swimmer to decimate women’s swimming records this season.
Millen told Fox News host Sean Duffy that puberty is one of the defining factors in classifying swimmers.
"I've gotten a lot of kind comments from fellow officials, former officials, and from parents of swimmers and swimmers," Millen told Duffy on Monday evening's Tucker Carlson Show. The fact is that swimming is a sport in which bodies compete against bodies. Identities do not compete against identities. And from the very beginning, when you start out as an age-grouper, swimmers are divided by sex and by age group: eight and under, nine-ten, etc., all the way up, because from the very beginning, this is just accentuated when boys and girls go through puberty...
"So while Lia Thomas is a child of God, he is a biological male who is competing against women. And no matter how much testosterone suppression drugs he takes, he will always be a biological male and have this advantage," Millen continued. "And it's horrible; the statement for women then is you don't matter, what you do is not important, and little girls are going to be thrown under the bus by all of this. He's going to be destroying women’s swimming."

On Christmas Eve, a female Olympic champion wrote to protest Thomas' presence in girls' swimming, stating, aptly, that she didn't like competing against doped-up steroid-pumped East German cheaters, and she doesn't like the new version of testosterone cheating, either.

I swam on the U.S. National Team for nine years, from 1976 - 1984, the same years that East German swimmers dominated women's competitions by cheating with anabolic steroids.
I was able to win three Olympic gold medals and a silver medal because the East Germans boycotted the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
We all knew they were cheating. The boycott announcement was a relief; I knew I'd have a fair shot at winning.

Now imagine if all schools were only responsible for sponsoring one sports team and they put their best students -- regardless of gender -- on that team.
How many girls and women would make it?

The average differential in the men's and women's 'A' standard times for NCAA championship qualification is 11.41%; meaning the women's times are 11%+ slower than the men's qualification times.
About the same differential occurs if you're looking at almost any group of swimming records or qualification times between men and women, including regional or USA Swimming qualification times, American records, world records, NCAA records.
The gaps between men and women are generally larger in the sprints than they are in the long-distance events.
So, how big is that 11% advantage in swimming times for male swimmers?
Enormous.
To put it in perspective -- Olympic superstar Michael Phelps held just a .08% of an advantage over his US teammate and rival Ian Crocker in the 2004 Olympics.
But Phelps held a 12.62% advantage over the women's gold medalist, Australian Petria Thomas.
Phelps' advantage over women equates to over 150 times more than the advantage that Phelps had over his male competitors.
If he had that same 12.62% advantage over his male competitors, he would have swam 6.47 seconds faster than he did to win the gold, or a time of 44.78 seconds.
Meanwhile, the gap between first and eighth in the men's Olympic finals was a tiny gap of just 1.31 seconds.
Lia Thomas, however, is not 11% slower, she is only 2.6% slower than she was pre-transition in the 200-yard freestyle, and just 5.76% slower in the 500-yard freestyle.
That is NOT mitigation [of his natural biological advantage via testosterone suppression]. It is NOT fair.

She also notes:

In all my years competing with East German women who were doped to the gills, they were only slightly better than the best biological women; not one of them were competitive with men.

Which isn't feminism at all, it has roots going back to last century's utopian movements. Does anyone have any links about this history? My understanding is that early communist movements got hooked in the idea that women and men were only different due to nurture, and a few even tried it out and realized that they were fucking idiots.

And this is why I am torn on this. The rational side of me is pissed about this ridiculous affront to biology, calling men "women", saying there are any number of genders, etc.

However, the spiteful, bitter, cynical side of me says that this is chickens coming home to roost for the feminist movement which has always said that women are exactly the same as men, that women's sports are equal to men's sports, etc. Based on that, the logical conclusion was to eliminate gender-based sports altogether and have just... sports. But that would be the end of women competing in sports. Feminists have long denied that, but this gender dysphoria BS has exposed it as 100% true.

So often the guys and girls would swim the event at the same time. Not against each other, mind you. The girls would swim against the girls and the guys against the guys, but at the same time in the pool. I can tell you first hand that even the best female swimmers had no chance whatsoever against the men. The men would lap them. Seeing it then, I couldn't imagine that in the near future men swimming against women would be a real thing. "I wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then."

Note that the guys who do throw submarine style are only in for an inning. There's no way they'd survive going through the lineup twice.

Academia abandoned actual reason long ago, and has been slave to various pressure groups such as feminists for a generation. With this cushy career path open, more driven than average grifters moved to take advantage -- Elizabeth Warren and Ward Churchill took up being Indians, White grifters took up being black, and so on.

So its no shock that a new set of grifters would take up the lefts insane views on gender to muscle out feminists by inventing a superior advocacy group. And given the advantage in drive and lack of group manners Testosterone gives men, they are easily able to muscle out the ladies on an equal playing field, much like they do on the sports arena.

I don't think so, I think Penn is private. The only state-affiliated Ivy that I know of is Cornell, but even there it is incomplete in that some colleges, though not all, are state-funded and tie in with the SUNY system in some way. Cornell's structure is weird.

Yup. Cornell is not part of SUNY, nor are its colleges. Some of its colleges are funded by the state and tie into the SUNY system in some manner. The ag school does, but IIRC that isn't the only college in Cornell that is SUNY-affiliated. The structure of that place is bonkers, but it doesn't really matter. Cornell is Cornell.

Cornell's ag school has a good reputation. I don't know if it's actually any good, but I have heard it is.

The problem is elitism and nothing more. Cornell is a rural school with a solid agricultural and hospitality program and some of the colleges are state-affiliated. As a result, Cornell has the taint of the ordinary and the other Ivies look down on it because it's not quite pure enough to be truly elite.

Yes, it has a widely recognized vet program for example. But, increasingly like the French aristos, actually 'working' for a living is regarding as a faux pas in society. Mike Rowe, demonstrated, through his shows, that for many people, status is more important than actual income or even education. Cornell, the private part, has status, the agri school--not so much.

Now they're expected to turn out in public pretending to be happy that men pretending to be women are thrashing them, and failing to play along means they'll lose their scholarships - in most cases being on the hook for what has already been paid out - and possibly get expelled as well.

Many of them would be ruined financially and be barred from admission from most other universities. The practical lesson here is that you have to know when to cut your losses and bail. It's not like the left didn't telegraph that this was coming.

b/c to get to play in college you had to really be at a top HS, a winning program, to get the looks. so you are used to .. winning if not dominating!

then in college that is incredibly unlikely and also the one that recruit kids more are usually the ones trying to improve whereas others just pick up players via the transfer portal!

it's all good tho. an adjustment.

Ironically, that is a return to form. The Ivies were widely recognized around the turn of the century as being bastions of WASP privilege and graduates in the hinterlands of the US were widely disparaged as products of genteel idiocy. It was the recognition by the Ivy progressives actually that led to removal of the Jewish and Catholic bars on admission and acceptance of merit via the SAT, etc. that led to their current status in society. Now, it appears that is over and they will degenerate again into finishing schools for the 'elites'.

One of the psychology professors was an extreme lib who used to tell a story about her son, in kindergarten, decided one day he wanted to wear a dress to school that day. They agonized over the bullying he might get but decided to let him do it.

The story was partly meant to illustrate that children don’t yet understand gender differences and look to the superficial: the other kids now thought he was a girl, and he kept telling them he wasn’t. Finally, he dropped his pants (panties? the story sort of falls apart in multiple places) and yells, no, I’m a boy, I have a penis!

Probably would be expelled and his parents fired from the school for saying that nowadays.

I had the privilege of sitting behind the plate when Randy Johnson pitched once. He was 6-10 and threw left handed from a diagonal position. The ball was coming across the plate at 90+ mph in a descending motion diagonally. I don't know how anyone hit it.

It was a serial type where young children grew up facing increasingly difficult challenges. So, kids literally grew up reading them like the Hardy Boys or Nancy Drew but with magic.

Lord of the Rings, it was not. Maybe more on par with Narnia but without the strong Christian influence that CS Lewis brought to that series.

Up until the, there had been nothing like it, and certainly nothing in the YA / Children's category.

The fact that a good number of these kids grew up, still attached to the storyline is another matter.

The Ohio State University had a scandal like this where the female basketball Coach and some players would pressure other players for sex, Coach was dating players etc. Finally one player complained, talk about the courage she had.

It is always scary for the pitcher. With the thin wall bats today, the ball can come off the bat at well over a 100mph, and the pitcher is about 36 feet away.

But I bet if a boy played women's fast-pitch softball from a young age and continued on through high school and college, he would dominate the sport. Can't say the same for a girl who tried to play high school and college baseball.

Tenure protects those of us who are conservatives from leftist admins and school boards (although as a teacher new to Jacksonville, I only have an annual contract).
Duval County does have school choice. Schools compete with each other to attract students. At the very least, parents should be able to choose their children's teachers or enter a lottery for them instead of random assignment

Men also tend to specialize and get maniacal over their interests more than women. Find a guy interested in cars and he may have an encyclopedic knowledge of car types, engine parts, history, famous drivers, on and on. I used to have a ton of baseball info like that myself, and probably remember most of it. My sister who watches the sport more than I do by far never did that sort of deep dive into the nuts and bolts.
