Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Hat Tip to Tami: In Memoriam to the Best Friend I Never MetAs almost all of you know, the blogfamily lost one of its most beloved members when Tami -- Tamara -- passed suddenly and unexpectedly at the end of November. Her absences from the blog were always very notable, especially for me, because on a lot of days, she practically was the blog. Half of the stuff I posted was from her tips in the comments. She was just one of the sweetest people I've ever virtually met and I'm sorry I didn't know her for real. You can view her obituary and post a goodbye on her virtual memoriam wall. She was a real cutie, too!Tamara "Tami"What a loss. We've also lost some of our other good friends this past year -- rickl and Chavez the Hugo among them. I hate thinking that they're gone. They were just here a moment ago. We were all just here a moment ago. Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1
We all miss you, Tami.

Agree with the cutie assessment. Very pretty woman with a much prettier heart.
When we were trying to get in tough with rickl, she sent me a text asking if I could use my job to find him. We found his residence and realized later he was in the hospital. I sent an email to Tami and told her she was a very good person for caring so much. She told me I did all the work, and she did really nothing. She never took credit for the good things she did. It was just her nature. Posted by: Wyatt Earp at December 22, 2021 05:38 PM (XSRBF) 13

That is one of the worst parts of death, and its something you cannot really understand until you go through it: they're gone. Suddenly, like a light going out.
Now they're gone for the rest of your life. No more father. No more friend. No more movies from Alan Rickman. Just ended, with a snip. Its shocking and awful. [So many beautiful, moving, and eloquent tributes to Tami by The Horde -- I'm almost embarrassed to republish mine; in my defense, I was suffering from overworked exhaustion, sleep deprivation, and really dusty eyes ... but mostly really dusty eyes:]
My condolences to Tami's family on this shocking, deeply saddening news. Like most commenting here, I too only knew Tami as a virtual virtuoso at the AoSHQ blog -- and always looked forward to her positive, witty, and oft-quoted-by-Ace commentary and linkage (she seemed to me to be a one-woman news and twitter aggregator -- don't know how she did it). Thank you for providing for us, in her obituary, her actual "sense of life" in the real world; I always envision many of the regular, and moreso popular, commenters at Ace of Spades as Randian heroes in real life -- and now I know that Tami indeed was. I regret I did not get to meet her there One of my favorite Zen-type quotes in response to how one can meet or know another merely briefly (and now only online), but still feel as if they'd known them all their life, is "The soul does not measure time; the soul only measures growth." Tami will be missed. Posted by: ShainS -- Beware the Branch Covidians at December 22, 2021 05:43 PM (WL2ZY) 36

That is the evil secret of aging. It sucks to get old and feel less powerful and more weak and hurty. It sucks to have your body fail you. But its even worse watching the ones you love age and weaken and fall apart and die. Everyone you grew up with. Everyone you love, saying goodbye to them one after another. Young people are not ready for this. Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at December 22, 2021 05:45 PM (KZzsI) 45
Way too young to die. I'm just a little older, and maybe I moved around and had some "diverse learning experiences", but from what I read, Tami seemed to have lived the quintessential perfect Americana Life.

You all know now (or knew) Tami loved dogs and cats. Maybe she loved all animals, I don't know. So Tami had 4 dogs and a cat, maybe two cats, yeah, two cats. Anyways, her 4-legged children did not get along -- she even had to keep one dog upstairs from the other dogs downstairs or else she was constantly breaking up their fights. Tami would often share these stories of being referee for all her beloved animals, not out of aggravation, but out of love. And a couple of her dogs are pitbulls, so you could imagine the crazy antics in the Tami Household. That's what I remember about Tami -- a lady with lots of love, patience, and generosity. Goodbye, Tami. You will be remembered. Posted by: Soothsayer's Untrue But Accurate Tales at December 22, 2021 05:47 PM (6vHcr) 55

She was the best friend I never met when I joined this blog 12 years ago.
We regularly talked via email, and when she didn't respond to two I sent her, I knew something was wrong. Bluebell and CBD thought she was just busy. No one could convince me she was okay. Im heartbroken. My prayers are for her precious family. She loved that grand baby so much. She sent me a picture of him in the snow last Christmas. She was also proud of her Sicilian heritage, and was very funny. I hope to visit her family's restaurant in St. Louis some day. RIP, dear friend. This place will never be the same without you. Thanks Ace. I come and go because I'm a professional flake.
But even after prolonged absence I'd see Tami here, posting a link for something that had been in the news cycle for all of 3 seconds, and before the rest of the internet started talking about it. If she didn't have the record in h/t's, she should have. She never got involved with any horde dramas (at least that I witnessed) and could always count on her righteous indignation at the right time. I can't even imagine how her family feels. But it must be amusing to them there's dozens of people from all over the country, who only knew her by her nic leaving messages on her wall. She's leaving a giant Tami shaped hole at the HQ that will never be filled, nor should it. She is missed. You can and should accept the idea of dying at a moment's notice. It gives perspective. And it makes most things a lot more palatable. But it doesn't change anything when someone *else* dies unexpectedly. It's why you shouldn't really want the "he died peacefully in his sleep" scenario, as nice as it sounds... just hope it's not too terribly long and painful. One of those "you have three months to live" type of scenarios, so you have time to make arrangements, settle accounts, and your people have time to accept it first. I think it was when her daughter was getting married, she was fretting over the dress she was going to wear. So she posted a picture of the dress. Which looked lovely, and a number of people told her so. I said something like I'm sure she would look even better than the models in the store, and she practically cried at the kindness of my comment. Which was just me being silly.. and a bit flirty. I was very touched by how touched she was by the comment. Because that's how sweet she was, that someone as ornery as me be made to feel like I made somebody's day... Go to a MoMe
Posted by: Mark Andrew Edwards, Lawful Good is Not Lawful Perfect at December 22, 2021 05:52 PM (XvPQV) Yes to this. Even if you're the awkward one who hovers in the corner. I felt more at home at the two CO morondezvouseses than I do at office Christmas parties. Really good people. This, very very much. I huddled in a corner most of the first NoVaMoMe I went to, but Eris and AtC and Bander, among others, went out of their way to make me feel welcome. And when I didn't want to go a couple of years ago, people I had never met were insistent that I come so they could meet me. Moral, I suppose, being that you never know who on the HQ thinks you're funny, interesting or simpatico and would love a chance to meet you and add you to their IRL as a friend. So go if you have the chance. If a rotten, fat, ugly bastard like me can feel like a million bucks among the Horde, so can you. I said something like I'm sure she would look even better than the models in the store, and she practically cried at the kindness of my comment.
This is off topic I suppose but its how my mind works and I love to just know and understand things. Women really seem to always genuinely love being called pretty no matter when or how sincere it is. And I love that about them. Here's the question though: I have two little daughters of my cousin second cousins? Or something like that. They're both pretty, even if one is going a little crazy right now and fighting it. But one thing I went out of my way to avoid is calling them pretty. And here's why: I figured that, being pretty girls, they were going to be told that all their lives. What I wanted them to hear was how smart, and creative, and interesting they were. I wanted to be the voice that told them they were more than just pretty. Should I have done more? They're all grown up now and we don't get along as well as we used to. Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at December 22, 2021 06:02 PM (KZzsI) 126

I check the obits in my former hometown every few weeks to see if anyone I knew during my 30 years there has died. Today, I saw a picture of my friend Janice in the local paper and it just broke my heart. She was one of the funniest, kindest people I have ever known and it was the example of her faith that led me back to God after years of nothing much at all. She was just the best.

The AIDS scare is probably what broke America coupled with the womyn deciding that Beijing Billy was entitled to one free grope and blowj*bs for life. Looking back from 30+ years down the road we allowed the current deviancy parade when the softer hearted of us on the right decided to try to de-stigmitize the glee gang which happened in part because of the toll AIDS took on them spiritually. We took too much pity on their plight and said "they just want to be allowed to exist in peace" when what they really wanted was revenge I think. Wow, this is truly heartbreaking. Tami was such a funny, smart, sweet soul--the very epitome of an AoS Moron. Prayers for her husband, children, grandson and loved ones. May God be with them. So devastating to lose a loved one so suddenly and right before Christmas. R.I.P., dear Tami. She is treading with the angels. Thank you so much, Ace, for posting this.

Always thought I'd have plenty of time to do things later. Later might not always arrive. So don't put things off until it's too late.
Posted by: Insomniac - Outlaw. Hoarder. Wrecker Can't remember what movie I was watching but the scene was two people mourning a lost friend. One says: "He had so many things going on that he never got to complete." The other says: "Isn't that what death is? Unfinished business . . ." Tami accomplished a heck of a lot more than she left unfinished. We should all strive to do the same. RIP. But it sucks that this is the reality we live in. There is no one on the left that has to go into hiding for exposing facts about anyone on the right. Unless we want to consider Assange and Snowden to be leftists.
Posted by: Clyde Shelton at December 22, 2021 06:40 PM (Do5/p) No, the left always has to hide from their side. One slip and they will be destroyed without mercy. At least those on our side can escape for a little while in the company of like minded people. Leftists need always fear that what they say is not forbidden and that they will be destroyed over it. It is the world they made for themselves. Posted by: Oldcat at December 22, 2021 08:06 PM (eoQWY) 380

I don't post much over the years, but I have to add here that AOS *is* the best place on the entire internet, and the funniest and the most brilliant. I did get to go to a small meetup in my area once. But I do read here every day. Every day! For years. It's just hard to keep up with all the posts, so I don't post much.

Posted by: sven at December 22, 2021 06:48 PM (Lzpvj) I opposed gay marriage because that's not the purpose of marriage, but looking back on it I wonder if it hasn't allowed some gays to form stable relationships and break away from the standard lifestyle pushed so much. I have been seeing some losing the group identity clannishness and becoming more normal and less wedded to the Dem party line. Posted by: Oldcat at December 22, 2021 08:12 PM (eoQWY) 383

Just read Tami's obit. Lord, we both grew up in Crestwood at the same time. Both went to suburban Catholic high schools at the same time, but never met. I knew a bunch of Cunettos (there's a lot of them around here), but not her family. Just strange that I read her thoughts over the years without knowing that we were homies. RIP.

=== I'm old school 80 yr geezer Army retired to the right of Atilla the Hun. I count 2 gay gents as my best friends and at the top of my list of folks to call if needed. I've seen the opposite too often, I had a very intelligent lesbian explain to me that she had to support socialist policies in the democrat party because the GOP hated gay economics whatever the f*ck that is. At some point the "endangered seeking euality" types left that behind and started counting coup. Posted by: sven at December 22, 2021 09:38 PM (Lzpvj) 390
