"Science:" Francis Collins, Anthony Fauci Organized a Political Smear Campaign Against Scientists Opposed to General Lockdowns

Is this "The Science"? Because this looks a lot like The Politics.

And it's being done by people who have been government bureaucrats and not scientists for a very, very long time. One wonders if they even remember what science actually is.

The Great Barington Declaration was a statement written by three scientists and signed by nearly 60,000 scientists and medical professional. It urged
a policy of "focused protection" for those at risk from covid -- the elderly, the immunocompromised, the obese -- and lesser mitigation efforts for everyone else.

The three guys who wrote the statement were fully credentialed by the credentialling authorities of The Ruling Class:

Dr. Martin Kulldorff, professor of medicine at Harvard University, a biostatistician, and epidemiologist with expertise in detecting and monitoring infectious disease outbreaks and vaccine safety evaluations.

Dr. Sunetra Gupta, professor at Oxford University, an epidemiologist with expertise in immunology, vaccine development, and mathematical modeling of infectious diseases.

Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, professor at Stanford University Medical School, a physician, epidemiologist, health economist, and public health policy expert focusing on infectious diseases and vulnerable populations.

Because they could not be attacked on credentials, or on science, they had to be smeared politically.

Francis Collins and Anthony Fauci organized that political smear campaign, FOIA'd emails now reveal.

Behold The Science in action.

Jay Bhattacharya

@DrJBhattacharya

So now I know what it feels like to be the subject of a propaganda attack by my own government. Discussion and engagement would have been a better path.

baringtondeclarationsmear.jpg

A key political claim -- not a scientific one, of course -- was the claim that they Barington scientists' plan for covid was to "let it rip," ignoring the facts that they called for focused protection (that is, lockdowns, quarantines) of the most vulnerable and mitigation efforts for everyone else. They just opposed the Fauci/Collins plan of lockdowns for everyone, including children and young people for whom covid posed next to no threat at all.

By the way, when this political smear campaign was executed, it was well known that covid posed next-to-no-threat to the young -- that was well-established by May 2020. This campaign unfolded in October 2020.

But "The Science" trumps actual small-s science.

And "The Science" is always settled -- by the Science Priests.

And no dissent is allowed, whether about Global Warming, the efficacy of lockdowns, the justification for vaccine mandates, the danger of dietary fat, or anything else the Science Priests decree.

'There needs to be a quick and devastating take down': Emails show how Fauci and head of NIH worked to discredit three experts who penned the Great Barrington Declaration which called for an end to lockdowns

The emails show Fauci and NIH Director Francis Collins attempting to coordinate a 'devastating takedown' of the Great Barrington Declaration (GBD)

AIER, a libertarian think tank, sponsored the GBD, which largely abandons lockdowns in favor of herd immunity strategy that allows life to return to normal

In an October 8 email from Collins to Fauci, the head of the NIH calls the GBD the work of 'three fringe epidemiologists' that 'seems to be getting a lot of attention'

Collins adds that 'there needs to be a quick and devastating published takedown of its premises. I don't see anything like that online yet - is it underway?'

Fauci later sends Collins multiple op-eds trashing the GBD in Wired and The Nation Magazine

Dr. Jay Bhattacharya - one of the authors and a DailyMail.com contributor - tweeted that he was the subject of a propaganda attack by his own government

This thread by Dr. Jay Bhattacharya documents the lies coordinated by Fauci and Collins, and Collins' fresh lies on the Sunday shows this week, justifying his anti-science political smear operations.

See also this thread of more emails.

One of the claim made were that these three eminent scientists were "fringe epidemiologists."

By the way, Collins is not an epidemiologist of any kind -- he's a geneticist. By the credential games these assholes play when it suits him, he should recuse himself from the debate entirely.

But, as with all journalists and leftists: every journalist and every leftist with an opinion, which is all of them, are self-credentialing.

I was also puzzled by the mischaracterization of the GBD as a "herd immunity strategy". Biologically the epidemic ends when a sufficient number of people have immunity, either through COVID recovery or vax. Lockdown, let-it-rip, & the GBD all lead to that. (3/n)

As @MartinKulldorff has said, it makes as much sense to say "herd immunity strategy" as it does to say "gravity strategy" for landing an airplane. The only question is how to land safely, not whether gravity applies. (4/n)

So the question is how to get through this terrible pandemic with the least harm, where the harms considered include all of public health, not just COVID. The GBD & focused protection of the vulnerable is a middle ground between lockdown & let-it-rip.(5/n)

Lockdowners like Collins & Fauci presumably think that focused protection of vulnerable is impossible. They could have engaged honestly in a discussion about it, but would have found that public health is fundamentally about focused protection.

We can never debate these issues like global warming -- they're always "too important" for debate and dissent, so we proceed directly to suppression, censorship, propaganda and punishment of dissenters.

And the left's list of issues that are "too important" to allow discussion about is very long, and growing at an expodential (as Brandon would say) rate.

On Jimmy Dore's show, Max Blumenthal -- yes, they are both on the far leftwing, but they hate the "shitlibs" of the neoliberal/neocon uniparty as much as we do -- says that part of this effort, which I don't know if Collins and Fauci were directly responsible for, consisted of telling the left that the Great Barrington Declaration was a Koch operation, just because one speech was given by these guys at AEIR, which does get some money from Koch.

Koch is a boogeyman on the left, so this was a very effective propaganda tactic for poisoning the left against considering the arguments made in the Great Barrington Declaration.

I linked this piece from Kulldorff and Battacharya before, How Fauci Fooled America, from November 1. Worth reading if you missed it.

Don't forget: Francis Collins is a very, very serious person. A very respected epidemiologist scientist bureaucrat.

3) They lied to us about: ACE inhibitors, Aspirin, Antihistamines, and Azithromycin, and also when they said Remdesivir was an actual useful treatment. Chances are the people who said they're lying about HCQ, IVM, and the Vaccines are right as well.

We need some actual vaccines that aren't developed by sociopaths who killed people by witholding treatment.

Well. When I lived in New Hampshire I found out that you can (at least at the time) buy just about any sort of supplement. Some of the stuff was borderline banned chemicals.

I got some stuff from calf kidneys and bull testes. Not testosterone per se but it was from the same place.

I was freaking energized!!!! to the point where they had to tell me to cool it as I was getting out of hand. Overexcited about stuff and in arguments or discussions. Some other stuff pertaining to personality. I quit taking the stuff cause I couldnt sleep and I was upsetting the other workers. But man was I ENERGIZED!!!

I may have to make a trip to New Hampshire cause I cannot for the life of me remember the names of the stuff but if I see it I'll recognize it.

It is a politics and public information issue more than a science issue. As long as politicians, almost all Prog Democrats to-date, can make political hay using pliable, greedy, and attention-seeking scientists to say what politicians want them to say, the problem continues. The problem is exacerbated by the media giving the public only information that supports the case of politicians the media likes. The Deep State is also part of the politics problem. Deep State GS-13's and above decide which scientists get most of the Federal research dollars, and how much. Scientists who want money know what studies and what results the Deep Staters want.

But the Barrington people plus Levitt plus many many more smaller names were/some cases still are the best independent observers on all this, and they did/still do use Twitter as their platform.

Oh - and "let it rip" is a classic example of the actual definition of "begging the question" (forget the latin term for this fallacy) - assuming the answer to the very question under discussion while approaching the discussion.

There is no option, with a pathogen of this nature (already prevalent, highly transmissible), to "letting it rip". You're not "letting" anything happen.

Which leads to the gravity analogy. Gonna have to email Kuldorff and chastise him for stealing my favorite construct to mock "climate change" nonsense - I always ask when anti-gravity research will get more funding, since surely if we can affect climate we can affect gravity.

He's nothing but an arrogant little bureaucrat. He doesn't "do" science, he just reads about what other scientists are doing (and it's not even clear that he does very much of that). He only had a year of internship and a single year of residency at his medical school's hospital, before he jumped over to government work. He's not even a real doctor, in that he's never had his own practice and hasn't even tried to treat a patient in over 50 years.

Fauci is all in on gain of function research, we have numerous papers and speeches where he says so, BUT our political leaders said taking a virus and making it deadly to humans, was a BAD thing, and outlawed it in this country.

So Fauci then trained the Communist Chinese Scientist here in the US, then OUTSOURCED Gain of Function to an Enemy Nation, where they could then use that knowledge to create bioweapons.

He flat out created a conspiracy to bypass US Law, and created his own public Policy. Yet somehow people still LISTEN to him about public Policy?

I was last tested in June and was okay then.
I'm afraid dicks like these guys that say I shouldn't be allowed in the hospital are the ones who are going to win the argument and I'll be faced with the choice of getting my dr visits so I can get my scripts for the meds that are helping keep me comfortable or sticking some undefined poisong in my veins and hope for the best.

235 Fauci is an egotistical little asshole. Anybody who screams that you can't question him because he IS science belongs in a friggin' nut house.

The man is a fraud, in every sense of the word. And he's incompetent in the bargain.

It's the everyday medical establishment. This is what has shocked me that my own Dr. I can no longer trust to tell me the truth and what will be the best treatment for what I may or may not have. Or in the case of older people; whether to get tests that will show that some sort of intervention could be useful but they don't want you to know about it because they don't make a lot of money off you for the treatment. So they are advised by the office manager to keep quiet about telling me what all are my problems. I suspected that that could be going on but after this covid stuff, I'm sure they would have no qualms at all about keeping that treatment to themselves no matter if it takes a few years off my life. I've lived long enough I guess to them.

Isn't it "odd" that the party that had been telling you 1) it's your body, and 2) a medical decision should be left up to you and your doctor, have abandoned both those absolutes.

Obamacare was the actual move to takeover "your doctor" though. There are no "private practices" left in America. Every doctor's practice is owned by a hospital. And the government controls the hospital standards--for HEALTH! (A parallel concept of SCIENCE!)

296 So a few of you know I just bought a new Camaro. Hell of a car, btw.

I started poking around about news regarding the car and found out that next year will be the last year. They are going to retire the brand again, even though sales are great, and it is typically regarded as the best of the 3 American muscle cars (Camaro, Mustang, Challenger).

The brand will go away, then they will bring it back as a 4 door performance electric sedan.

This is a sign of the times, because of the Climate Change bullshit, the auto manufacturers are doing away with gasoline engines and moving to hybrids and electric.

The naturally aspirated V8 in my car is near the pinnacle of performance in engine design, and we as a society are going to abandon it over a hoax.

This makes me very sad.

326 The science was settled during the building of the Panama Canal when the science said the solution to the ramapant malaria outbreaks was to put all the bed legs in pans of water. So the pesky malaria germs couldn't climb up. Yes, the science was indeed settled.

You know, pans of water, like where mosquitoes breed.
Posted by: Guy Smiley at December 20, 2021 02:13 PM (njfCw)

The pans of water was to keep the leaf-cutting ants and other vermin from getting into the beds with the fever patients. At the time all the research showed that mosquitoes were not the vector, as an experimenter had released them in a ward and sat while they fed on him as well and he did not get yellow fever or malaria. He was not aware that the diseases needed time to pass through the mosquitoes system to become infective through the salivary glands.

The French were not smart, but they were not smart because they had evidence.

378 I'm left wondering if the pickup that I'm thinking of buying should be gasoline or diesel, because they might not ban diesel for a bit longer compared to gasoline since it is needed for industrial operations that can't be replaced with electric motors. Of course, they might just make it illegal for the plebs to buy diesel anyway, so it might be a moot point.

The problem I am seeing, is due to reduced natural gas production, or whatever production is being consumed by natgas power plants to make up for wind, is the production of urea which, in commercial production requires a lot of natgas to make.

Urea, is used in fertilizers, and in diesel fuel to be NOx compliant. Lots of trucks will stop dead the moment their urea tanks are empty because a dead truck and a stranded load is better than NOx. (sigh)

Abortion and COVID insanity are two sides of the same coin: To protect my body (or my freedom to use my body as I wish), everyone must do or not do as I say, no matter who else gets hurt.

391 The Big 3 (esp. GM) are doing the same thing they did to trolleys after wwii.

They had a campaign going on that dissed the trolleycar systems that were all over the place even in small towns that would hook up to larger towns and their continent spanning railroads.

Even my small town of about 2000 at the time had a trolley car. Because they were cheap equipment and cheap to run. Some rails and a wire overhead. No stink no belch of black smoke. but GM wanted to sell diesel buses to the cities. So they went after the trolley car.

Trouble was they were expensive and small towns couldn't convert so their trolleys died. Trolleys are a very efficient mode of transport. So people had to buy cars and eventually so many cars were sold that the bus lines faltered and died and now there are no connections between small towns. the only way to travel is by car. And the larger electric trains are even more expensive to run and maintain.

This will be the undoing of California I'm pretty sure. They do not nor will they have the infrastructure in place for all the electric vehicles that they will need. Also electric delivery vans are very expensive to run. (more)

That Fauci has been financing Wuhan means that anything coming out of China regarding COVID is a joint effort. The people dying in the streets of Wuhan is a Hollywood production to create the crisis.

Once you have spooked the world you are in the clear and can declare any and every death as a COVID death. And voila! you have a crisis, now run with it.

The WEF members are the real winners here and can do whatever they want, there are no restrictions of any kind on them. They fly wherever and whenever they want in their private jets. They party wherever and whenever they want without masks or vaccines.

This is all just another ruse to get China to take over the world, because the fucking idiots in the WEF think they'll still be in power.

Also that rip roaring V8 would probably get 50mpg with modern engine technology. 100mpg+ would be easily doable with small four cylinders.

They are not. I run an F-250 for rv towing. But its not THAT much more expensive. Fuel is about a quarter a gallon more, and I get about 1.5 MPG less. 5K mile services run $75 more. Cost of DEF is negligible.

Repairs cost more - but I generally need less of them per 100K miles. And you can run over more protesters before you high center. Best truck I've owned.

VERY much just a DIY guy here, not a trained electrician. But I think the biggest issue is the need for 8 gauge wiring for 40 amp circuits vice 10 gauge wiring for 30 amp service.

In other words, your existing wiring behind the walls for 30 amp service probably can't handle the increased electrical load for 40 amp circuits.

505 Science priests is a good analogy. They say what "The Science" is and dissent is anathema. It is so antithetical to actual science, which looks for dissenting and negative findings zealously, alternative theories are examined on their merits not their pedigree.

507 What they are doing with smaller engines these days is truly amazing, but it almost always heavily relies on turbos which are their own sort of problem.

508 VERY much just a DIY guy here, not a trained electrician. But I think the biggest issue is the need for 8 gauge wiring for 40 amp circuits vice 10 gauge wiring for 30 amp service.

In other words, your existing wiring behind the walls for 30 amp service probably can't handle the increased electrical load for 40 amp circuits.
Posted by: Doof

1st question is why? Why the need for 40 amp vs 30 amp? Pretty much ALL non-commercial homeowner stuff is standard. Stoves, hot water heaters, dryers, etc.

Posted by: rickb223 at December 20, 2021 02:50 PM (uXonU)

509 Knowing full well that they overrate everything, meaning when they 'require' wire to be a specific gauge to carry an amperage, you can violate it, safely in most cases.

8 AWG in a raceway is 40 AMPS.

516 I was in the market for a commuter car as my new job is not in a place I can take the commuter train any longer.
Needed to get good gas mileage as I'm putting on about 60-65 a day. I also tend to hold cars a while so I want something that can rack up miles as well.
Chose an Audi A6 TDI, one of the last of the Volkswagon dieselgate cars.
I've averaged 35 mpg since my purchase in June, and it's not an econobox. The 3 liter Diesel motor should outlast the body panels.
On top of that the diesel gate extended warrantee will be in effect until 2026.

526 One would think that an enterprising journalist would dig into the motivation of Fauci/Collins in using Wired and The Nation pieces to refute epidemiologists from Harvard/Oxford/Stanford (could it be that the COVID virus came out of the US-funded research? Hmm?).

But our media wholly lacks any bit of intellectual curiosity whatsoever. Not to mention lacking the intellectual ability to understand the issue in the first place....

529 435 Some people don't have the infrastructure in their home wiring to setup the chargers. Plus think of the load when it hits every evening between 5pm to mid early morning. Plus with them outlawing nat. Gas where will they get that electricity?
