Fox News Finally Rids Itself of Toxic Leftwinger and Chronic Ratings Cellar-Dweller Chris Wallace

If you want to know how deep-in-the-bones leftwing Fox is as an institution, check out Chris Wallace's ratings, which I never knew before this column by John Nolte.

It's one thing to keep on a highly rated toxically leftwing biased anchor, if you're a money-grubbing corporation. That I could understand. Sure you're damaging your brand and alienating your core customer base, but if you're making money on the deal, I guess it's possibly justified.

But if you're losing money on the deal, and always at the absolute rock-bottom of the ratings pile, what could possibly impel you to keep on a toxic leftwing biased "journalist" who your customer base hates, and who clearly hates your customer base?

The only thing that would justify keeping him on is if you... agree with his toxic leftwing politics, and if you feel he brings you "prestige."

Always distrust anyone who claims to be "of the right" but somehow always finds himself chasing after the trinkets of prestige bestowed by the left.

These people are of the left -- you are part of the tribe which you believe is prestigious, the tribe which can confer prestige.

You are opposed to the tribe you think is low in prestige and even prestige-stealing.

Whatever you think of Fox News — and other than a couple of people over there, I do not think much of Fox News — it’s not just a cable news juggernaut, it’s a cable TV juggernaut. Fox News kills in the ratings. Fox is so far ahead of MSNBC, and most especially CNN, those two left-wing outlets hardly rate as competition. Fox’s only real competition is ESPN and networks like TBS and TNT. Week after week after year after year, Fox brutalizes its competition in the ratings—except for … the lying, left-wing, and utterly useless Chris Wallace.

For nearly 20 years, Chris Wallace has been the one and only Fox News name brutalized in the ratings.

Last week is a perfect example:

Face the Nation: 2.8 million viewers.
Meet the Press: 2.6 million
This Week: 2.5 million
Fox News Sunday: 1.2 million

So I’m not accused of cherry-picking, here are the ratings for the 2020-2021 season:

Face the Nation: 3.4 million
Meet the Press: 3.3 million
This Week: 3.1 million
Fox News Sunday: 1.3 million

Now, I am fully aware that Fox News Sunday is not a Fox News show. Instead, it broadcasts on the Fox broadcast network. But that’s what makes Wallace’s 18-year failure especially grievous. When you are riding the Fox News brand, there is no excuse for Fox News Sunday to lose to these other far-left Sunday shows, especially when Fox News Sunday enjoys the advantage of airing on a broadcast network.

And lying liar Chris Wallace did not just lose to his left-wing competition; year after year after year, he was humiliated by his left-wing competition. It’s not as though he sat in last place by a hair. This left-wing activist was serially humiliated.

Wallace’s failure is inexcusable, especially today when Greg Gutfeld’s late-night Fox News cable show regularly beats the insufferable Stephen Colbert and the equally insufferable Jimmys—who enjoy the advantage of airing on the top three broadcast networks.

I think there's a decent chance that Fox decided to cut this fat sack of leftwing fat loose themselves. That they chose to either not renew his contract, or offered terms so begrudging that it injured his bloated, corpulent ego and so he went a-courtin' to CNN.

Even so: Why did they keep him for so long? He's been a leftwing gasbag as long as I can remember. It intensified during the Trump years, sure, but they renewed him in... 2017.

After his egregiously partisan, unprofessional performance during the debates.

Did he still bring Fox "prestige" after that?

Here's a brief flashback to just a few of Chris Wallace's ugliest moments of leftwing partisanship -- just a few that a quick scan of twitter and my own memory disclosed.

During the debate, Chris Wallace repeated misinformation he got from the DNC and his leftwing media DNC-repeaters and claimed that the violence in Kenosha was caused by "white supremacists."

If Chris Wallace’s goal during Tuesday night’s debate was to deflect from the months of left-wing violence from Black Lives Matter extremists and Antifa and instead blame it on President Donald Trump and his supporters, he did an excellent job.

“You have repeatedly criticized the vice president for not specifically calling out Antifa and other left-wing extremist groups,” Wallace, the debate moderator, said to Trump. “But are you willing tonight to condemn white supremacists and militia groups, and to say that they need to stand down and not add to the violence in a number of these cities, as we saw in Kenosha and as we’ve seen in Portland?”

Infamously, Chris Wallace also redefined Critical Race Theory as mere "racial sensitivity training," and then demanded to know why Trump had ended mandatory "racial sensitivity training" in government.

During the same segment, Wallace employed more Democrat talking points in what proved to be one of the most egregious exchanges of the night. Earlier this month, the Trump administration rightly announced it would be prohibiting federal agencies from subjecting their employees to woke “critical race theory” and “white privilege” seminars. Although critical race theory is itself a racist and toxic framework of social study, which posits that white people are guilty oppressors based only on the color of their skin and therefore lends itself to extreme “remedies” (such as looting as reparations), Wallace framed it nicely as “racial sensitivity training.”

“This month, your administration directed federal agencies to end racial sensitivity training that addresses white privilege or critical race theory,” Wallace said, couching critical race theory with the unobjectionable “racial sensitivity” phrase. “Why did you decide to do that — to end racial sensitivity training?” Wallace doubled down on the term. The implication, of course, is that Trump himself is insensitive to racial issues.

“I ended it because it’s racist,” Trump replied, factually. “A lot of people were complaining that they were asked to do things that were absolutely insane, that it was a radical revolution that was taking place in our military, in our schools, all over the place.”

Trump’s statements were true, but the truth wasn’t good enough for Wallace, who asked like a genuine leftist, “What is radical about racial sensitivity training?”

Trump didn’t take the bait. “They were teaching people to hate our country, and I’m not going to do that,” Trump said. “I’m not going to allow that to happen.”

Chris Wallace: Biden's inaugural address is "the best inaugural address I've ever heard."

“I thought it was a great speech,” Wallace said, noting that it was “colored by the emotion” of the Capitol riot just weeks before. “I’ve been listening to these inaugural addresses since 1961 John F. Kennedy ‘ask not.’ I thought this was the best inaugural address I ever heard.”

Chris Wallace was eager to parrot the false Democrat disinformation that Georgia vote reform laws forbade drinking water while standing in line to vote.

Fox News’ Chris Wallace claimed Sunday Georgia voters are prohibited from being given food or drink in line at the ballot box under a law the state’s governor signed last week.

“Let’s take a look at some of the provisions in Georgia,” Wallace said during an interview with South Carolina Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham. “The one that I think is creating the biggest fuss, it prohibits, it makes it a crime to give food or drink to voters waiting in line. Senator, why on Earth if Americans are willing to wait hours to vote, would you make it a crime for people to come and give them a bottle of water?”

Here's a total guess: Seem to recall there was a meeting between DNC and Fox, and right after that Fox hired Donna Brazile and started getting top Democrat guests (Schumer, etc.) that had openly shunned visits to Fox. Sure looked like some kind of deal was struck to get more DNC-approved people such as Brazile hired in exchange for Democrats dropping their shut-out of Fox news shows outside of Wallace's Sunday show. Maybe the DNC approved of Wallace, so his continuation there helped Fox snag Democrat guests?

173 Broadcast and cable news in general is a declining industry just as newspapers were 20 years ago. ESPN is another example. So, the general business rule is try to maximize profit on a shrinking market--no new investments, get rid of non-productive labor, etc.

Streaming is rapidly becoming the new normal and that is where everyone is placing their bets--however, streaming has to appeal to its customers or risk being dropped with far more ease than the old paradigm of tying the service provider to the content provider.

One way is what Discovery is trying to do is to replicate the old cable bundle approach on streaming--dunno if that will work in the long run. Another way is to appeal to specific target audiences. The problem is that Google is enabling access (and Rumble among others is an alternative) to a number of small startups that are more nimble and cost less than the dinosaur producers. Don't know how this is going to shake out.

185 The removal of a man like Chris Wallace from a major television platform only to have him languish in the untested new market of online news streaming is very troubling and it is certainly not in the public interest.

Chris Wallace is a paragon of journalistic integrity, and his being shunted into an online-only streaming backwater is extremely distressing. People like him need to be front-and-center, not put onto the back burner. It is the duty of the news media to ensure that their best and brightest, those that are consistently even-handed and honest and those who act with integrity are elevated to the primary positions within the news media companies.

Moves like this underscore the serious problem with corporate news media, as such an event could not occur if those outlets were acting in the public interest. As "the public interest" is not always the same as "that in which the public is interested," the role of regulators is to ensure the public interest is served by the caretakers of the news media. This departure is an example of failing the public interest, and of broader market failure. The regulatory apparatus needs to address this kind of damage in the news media.

And on streaming, you have another problem besides the fact that, absent cable bundling, your customers become mercenaries. The competition is brutally fierce. You have to give the customer what he wants, but you also have to do so consistently at a price he's willing to pay. The market is crowded and the non-legacy sources put up astounding numbers and a high quality product. CNN+ isn't competing with Fox Nation, and vice-versa. They're both competing against *everyone* and the brand and personalities aren't nearly as valuable as they thing.

The truth is that it will be the stockholders of News Corp crying. The fabulously wealthy start diversifying after they make their pile. For a similar reason, that is why sons and daughters of the founder rarely reach the level of the founder. They don't want to roll the dice and risk everything because they are already so rich that they will never worry about working for the rest of their life. So their quality of life is worrying about fitting in with their peers than being even more wealthy.

CAT, I am not sure she is not correct. The Depression and its deflation worked for the benefit of those who had cash, much less so for those that invested. If we are unfortunate enough to have both inflation and depression which is possible--even cash will lose value along with other fixed assets. Events like this rarely happen but a systemic crash of the financial system means that extreme methods of wealth preservation is the goal rather than any sort of investing for the future.

This, in part, is why some in societies invest in professional skills that will always be useful and in demand. Thus, those individuals can eke out a living regardless of the macro economic environment.

I'd also imagine that a large portion of the demented audience is going to think that CNN has suddenly bolted right, having this FOX guy on and all. Anything left of center is far right for them. His ratings will be terrible, and CNN Pus will slowly fester and rot.

I've heard of this strategy happening before in the corporate world.

It was the founder of the company that had been pushed out of the CEO position by the Board of Directors in favor of someone else. After a couple of rocky years, the founder broke a clipboard over his knee and said, "It's him or me."

They chose the other guy. I think this strategy doesn't really work all that often in the real world because if you find yourself giving that ultimatum, then you're already in a losing position.

358 Formula 1 is fun to watch if you care about the mid-pack battles where there is actual racing between the drivers.

If all you care about is who crosses the finish line first, you're usually going to be disappointed. The last few seasons Mercedes and Red Bull have had cars that outperform the rest of the field by a large margin.

The back-and-forth between 7-time champion Hamilton, who is a miserable Woke, and the young Verstappen for the title this year was honestly great racing if you watched the whole season.

F1 does seem overly expensive and stupid, and I don't disagree - but they're making actual efforts at regulating the car builds such that it's easier to overtake and create better racing. If they could also shed about 40% of the stuffy Euro-fag pomp that surrounds the sport, it would be great to watch.

I gotta wonder if big tech is ever going to move HQ. I sort of doubt it. When you're a multi billionaire, living in a Portola Valley or Woodside compound, your little bubble is pretty snug. It's possible at some point they might worry about their bottom line, but for now they've got literal slave labor that lives on the premises 24/7, and anything that can be outsourced has been.

But if FB/twatter/goolag/apple or even eBay make a huge campus change - we'd be looking at hundreds of acres of new homeless squatting, broken windows, and a gigantic abandoned flying saucer covered in graffiti. They've already taken over the public schools that were empty for several months, and it took just as long to boot them.

I never thought I'd be concerned about my real estate investments in CA, but even the earth's axis changes, and Palo Alto may no longer be the center of the universe for much longer.

Like NASCAR claiming they race stock cars. There's nothing stock about them. They're barely cars as well, but more so than formula. They fake in the headlights and so on but... its just ridiculous. Stock Car racing used to pay huge dividends in automotive design, because what they learned on the track they could then put into next year's models.

Now there's no connection at all and you'd get arrested for driving a "stock car" on the road. Unless you're the guys from Roadkill who almost never even get pulled over.

That sport has a high barrier to spectator entry. I tried watching it a bit. However, the announcer accents are so thick, they are not understandable during the race when they are excited and talking fast, and the cars are loud. The amount of graphical information displayed is probably helpful if you knew what was what but there is just so much stuff constantly flipping by that it is an uncrackable code. One of the bright points, the drivers are micc'd and one time you heard a frenchy bitching and swearing at somebody else and a German yelling at his crew over car performance issues.

Takes about 3-4 races to understand the data they're putting on the screen but once you get it it's not hard.

Honestly the zero-commercials approach that ESPN has taken to airing them makes the coverage a billion times better than watching NASCAR where they're doing split screens or going to commercial every 24 seconds.

They far outnumber previously loved cars like the Prius. If I spent that kind of bread on a car, I'd like it to be a little bit unusual. I can go weeks without seeing a car like mine, I can't go 30 seconds without seeing a Tesla S. Sometimes at an intersection, I'll see something like 3 blue Tesla S's sitting together. I also think that turn signals and brakes must be a very expensive option that almost nobody springs for.

Tim Russert's reputation for even-handedness is a little overblown, in my opinion. Yes, he was better than the current batch, but that's faint praise indeed. Russert was a Dem partisan; perhaps in the Moynihan mold, but at the end of the day Moynihan always voted with the Dems as well.

I'd prefer a format where a weekly guest was simply interviewed by a panel of reporters; the way Meet The Press was originally done.

470 I also think that turn signals and brakes must be a very expensive option that almost nobody springs for.

They are standard, but disconnected to extend battery life. Because indicators warning lights are for 'other people' not me.

471 You could do a fun segment on a car show doing an endurance race, put like, a 1984 VW Rabbit up against a Porsche Taycan. Run it longer than the Porsche's range. It would have a huge lead then... stop. And the little VW with its 50 MPG would just keep going and going. Maybe a short stop to refuel while the Taycan is at a super highspeed mega experimental recharger that can get it going again in 20 minutes.

472 CRT, I am sure that probably popped into my head because of vague memories of that REO song.

There are no reporters on the right--plenty of commentators but almost no reporters.

Russert was a Dem but his on screen persona and pushing the narrative was far more likable and restrained than Wallace could ever be. No one ever accused Mike Wallace of being warm and his son was worse than Mike.

476 468 Brett Baier and Neil Cavuto need to go the way of Chris Wallace as well.

Posted by: Miss Issippi

Neil Cavuto is a stunning example of mediocrity in broadcasting and Baier is below that standard.

477 Bet they put Dana Perino in as the host of FNS.

478 Good Lord, Russia is looking more sane than most of the world.

My son has worked with Russians for a fair amount of time in the past. He likes them. Calls them the rednecks of europe.

Since the Huns the Russians have known that if you don't watch out the steppe tribes, Huns, Mongols, Turks, Lithuanians, Swedes, French, or Germans will come and kill you all. As will your own government.

It leads to less yearning for utopian mysticism.

479 Pretty sure there was a deal - Fox won't say they fired Wallace and he won't say he hated everyone at Fox.

Posted by: Bob at December 13, 2021 04:14 PM (d+5Bz)

480 #479 - Thats the truth of the front story. The back story though - why Fox held on to Wallace so long, is a mystery to me.

The optimistic explanation is that TDS is actually curable in some who try hard to stick to facts, and that some of these still exist at Fox HQ.

The pessimistic explanation is that Fox HQ has coldly calculated that they need to woo conservatives again with real live bait.

481 Goodbye Chris Wall-Ass

482 First of all I want to say excellent blog! I had a quick question which I'd like
to ask if you don't mind. I was interested to know
how you center yourself and clear your thoughts before writing.
I have had a difficult time clearing my thoughts in getting my
ideas out there. I do enjoy writing however it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are usually lost just trying to figure out how to begin. Any suggestions or tips?
Appreciate it!
