New York Times Subsidiary Editor Suspended for Unhinged Rant

I hear that leftists have formed their own Echo Chamber.

A gun rights group in Michigan sent out a press release to various media outlets protesting the rush to politicize the recent school shooting, and, of course, pressure the public into approving of the left's usual litany of anti-gun measures.

An editor at the New York Times subsidiary "Wirecutter" then left this message on their answering machine:

Hi, I’m a journalist with the New York Times. I’m just calling to wonder…I have two questions. How do you sleep at night? And aren’t you just like a little bit worried that there might be a hell and when you meet God he will send you there?

That’s just my only question.

Third question. The only people politicizing this seems to be you because you’re the only people I got a f@cking press release from.

Again, I am from the New York Times and I’m letting everyone in the New York Times know what kind of f@cking a$$holes you are. Congrats on being a laughing stock.

You f@cking ghouls. I hope that there is a God in heaven so he judges you when you die.

She didn't stop there. She also tweeted out their phone number and email address and invited her followers to harass them.

The New York Times is "reviewing" her behavior.

The New York Times said Friday that it is reviewing a top editor at the newspaper's Wirecutter.com for tweeting scathing messages about a gun-rights group, and for allegedly leaving angry, profane voicemails for the group.

They all think like this and they all believe exactly like this.

All that's being reviewed here is her embarrassing them slightly by going public with what they wrongly believe they have kept hidden from us.

Audio of the message she left below.

Note that this qualifies as a "death threat," as the left defies them. Anything that references death -- even if it's not a threat -- is called a "death threat."

If this message were left on a media figure's answering machine, the media would call it a death threat.

But a media figure left it on a citizen's answering machine, so it is merely some Colorful Language and possibly, at worst, some unprofessional ranting.

77 Somewhere on the internet, there is an interview with John Fogerty where he explains the plagiarizing himself litigation and demonstrates by playing snippets. Think the litigation was over Old Man Down the Road and its similarity to Run through the Jungle. What made it worse is long standing complaints by Fogerty that Saul Zaentz basically misled and stole ownership of this music by manipulating other band members. That is why no Creedence revival of the remaining members is possible along with subsequent complaints such as licensing CCR music for specific commercials obnoxious to Fogerty.

And then made an album as fantastic as ATotT, which is, pound for pound, as solid as any album they made with Gabriel IMO. No worries, mate, we'll just carry on with our drummer out front.

Hiring the legendary Bill Bruford to drum on that first post-Gabriel tour certainly didn't hurt in that department either.

Hackett leaving was the first bad turn, the second was when Phil did his solo albums (not to mention Mike) and they just sort of went with being his backing band. I have to give them credit for going with a totally different vocalist when he split, unlike Yes who insists on finding Anderson sound-alikes. But when the compositions suck there's not a lot that can help.

Duke is my favorite Genesis album, its a transition between progressive and pop and its amazing. The thing is, Peter Gabriel didn't go off and make prog rock on his own, he did poppy curious stuff. I like all of Genesis' catalog but its a pretty surprising change of tone and music from start to finish.

The band that went downhill badly was Chicago that was awesome horn-driven funky rock that turned into sappy 80s romantic ballads with Peter Cetera.

The Doobies kind of did this, going from cycle club road rock to pop with Michael McDonald, but I liked what they did under him. But when they went back to their origins with stuff like Cycles, it was even better.

I thought they were dead, and happily proved me way wrong. Bill stepping in really helped Phil - because he was pretty shaky during that first tour. He was totally comfortable by WiW, and I think that Chester was a better fit as far as Phil's style. Sadly, Phil got waaaay too comfortable after that. Oh well. I sure wouldn't have paid $500 to see him sitting in a chair croaking like the start of the Last Domino tour. Embarrassing.

They're getting hit about once a week - news only reports a tiny piece of it. The dispensaries all take cash, so they've tens of thousands of dollars by end of day. The bigger ones have a fairly decent security system, but smaller ones? None whatsoever. So hitting one gives you cash and a shitload of dope to sell.

Oh, and that restaurant that got ratio'd for telling 3 cops to take a hike? You'll be glad to know that all the local news stations have reported that they're sorry.

That was the trend for a lot of bands--survive long enough to build a fan base so the big bucks will roll in. The only problem was that by that time, most bands creatively were running on empty. That fan base wants the oldies and resents any attempt by a band to go in new directions. Garden Party by Ricky Nelson summarizes that dilemma.

Hard to explain to the kiddies that he was once that hip.

His solo albums have some moments. "Hand in Hand" has always been one of my jams. The EWF horns, just killin' it.

nope, he had a big problem there because the two Nigerian brothers already got up on the witness stand and confessed to everything, and testified that Jussie set it all up.

This trial reminds me of one a few years back where a black preacher was accused of 3 counts of rape. He was offered a year of probation, but he wouldn't stand for any admission he'd done anything wrong. So he went into Court, and he told a jury with 11 women on it "Dem bitches WANTED IT!!!!" Really, that's what he said in court.

then was shocked when he got 15 years hard time.

293 Today's country music has done wonders for the popularity of today's bluegrass.

This is true, and its ironic because country killed off bluegrass. Bluegrass was really popular, then country music started pushing it off the radio and people forgot about it for decades. There was a small resurgence in the 60s but then it died away again for a decade or more.

Love to see it popular now, and I credit O Brother Where Art Thou for the rebirth. Its American music at its absolute heart, even though many of the old classic songs are from the British Isles and Ireland.

Posted by: Christopher R Taylor

That was the trend for a lot of bands--survive long enough to build a fan base so the big bucks will roll in. The only problem was that by that time, most bands creatively were running on empty. That fan base wants the oldies and resents any attempt by a band to go in new directions. Garden Party by Ricky Nelson summarizes that dilemma.

I think in VH's case, 1984 was a monster hit that brought them an entirely new audience while maintaining the old one (mostly). So it was more a matter of all these people supporting them once it was too late. After buying the back catalog, they kept buying the new stuff hoping things would improve after 5150 and they'd find their footing, instead of getting much, much worse.

348 Yeah I like Collins and he's a hell of a drummer (Genesis wouldn't have hired him otherwise) but he is absolutely no replacement for Keith Moon. I mean... nobody is. But especially not Phil Collins.

Posted by: Christopher R Taylor

Ironically, Keef himself is responsible for Zac Starkey changing from guitar to the drums. Keef and Ringo used to be drinking buddies and Keef encouraged Zac to be a drummer.

But, Pete was feeling increasingly bored/frustrated with having to write Who songs in a certain way (requiring Entwistle to ramp up his bass and Keef to play over everything else) and Keef by the last album simply was unable to adapt. The most successful song on the last album that Moon played on was Who are You which is a nostalgic repeat of the past formula.

Post Keef albums are more like Pete's subsequent solo albums or his demos of Who songs which emphasize melodies and multiple musicians performing which reduces the need for playing it real loud.

353 Ace, this Politico article is a gem. I don't know if anyone already covered it.

It's meant to be a friendly piece on how hard the drones at State took the Afghanistan debacle, but it only highlights how fragile and inadequate they are.

A taste:
In interviews with POLITICO, State Department staffers describe having been "manic" or suffering "a complete mental breakdown" at the time of the evacuation. They spoke of the need for mental health support in its aftermath. One official reported that colleagues continue to meet on occasion for breakfast "just to cry." Another disclosed seeking out therapy. More than one State Department official described the Afghanistan withdrawal as having damaged them emotionally. The people interviewed for this article asked to remain anonymous so they could speak candidly.

They remind me of Avenetti who was running one scam to try to pay for the previous scam and stay ahead of being arrested by running around on TV getting left wing cred.

China has been a teetering house of cards for a while now, and it cannot stay up much longer. The question is how bad a hit we'll take when they go under, and how much we could have avoided by not leaning on them so heavily for manufacturing.

Seriously how much more expensive wold it have been to keep making widgets here than having China make it, then ship it here?

Was having meetings in Mexico City several years ago and the Mexican contingent was explaining how much money they were saving the company by closing all these facilities all over the place. They mentioned some extremely high number of 'pesos' in savings. Someone asked "how much is that in US Dollars?"

I blurted out "twenty five cents."

The crowd laughed, but the Mexicans nor the VP of IT was impressed.......

405 I think in VH's case, 1984 was a monster hit that brought them an entirely new audience while maintaining the old one (mostly). So it was more a matter of all these people supporting them once it was too late. After buying the back catalog, they kept buying the new stuff hoping things would improve after 5150 and they'd find their footing, instead of getting much, much worse.

I see authors in popular serials going through the same dilemma though. You write and write to get success, then when it comes, publishers want you to repeat the success over and over again until either you look at it cynically as a money maker potboiler career that kills your creative juices or you burn out.

A Conan Doyle tried to quit writing Sherlock Holmes stories several times because he felt rightly that people were ignoring his other works. The Beatles, at the end, were affected by John's boredom with the band as a creative output. The Rolling Stones went with cynical money making during the later 70's.

That is *very* hard to determine. The final answer is probably "not actually all that much" but things are complicated. Remote manufacturing is really expensive in its own right. Offshoring is not free. But as you keep sending things away, you stop being *able* to do things at home, which changes the math rather a lot. Had we not done much of it in the first place, or stopped at some point (maybe mid-90s), repatriating a lot of stuff would be far easier and more affordable. But there is now so much stuff we can longer make here that are inputs into bigger things.

A lot considering they only passed labor laws in the late 90's, IIRC. Plus lawsuits are uncommon, lax environmental laws - it's not just wages, it's everything that a company has to pay for just to hire one employee.

The US and EU should have set up eastern europe with infrastructure and encouraged them to become the factory of the world. Poland could have become the largest IC manufacturing center if we got them going in the 90's.

Its like solar, it never pays for its self. Ever. Its a neat idea, but its just not efficient enough and so expensive to set up and so short term that its not worth doing. Its stuff like that we need geniuses to figure out.

Of course we probably aborted them :/

Ginger Baker could have sat in for Keith Moon, but by all accounts he was dangerously insane and impossible to work with for any length of time. Posted by: Christopher R Taylor

Technically, Ginger could have done it as could several top jazz drummers like Buddy Rich or Gene Krupa. However, Keef also played a part in lightening up Who concerts with his repartee and outrageous stage persona; the rest of the band looked and often acted like a sullen group of soccer hooligans on stage. Ginger would have fit right in with the latter lot but that would have made Who stage shows much less compelling.

549 I assume that people always acted like this, and that the internet is just amplifying it and making so that we actually see it and know about it?

Because I really don't remember seeing "unhinged rant" think pieces on the news constantly even 15 or 20 years ago. Now, it's like a daily occurrence.

Whatever happened to professionalism? I know that's pretty rich coming from someone reading this website, but Jesus H Roosevelt, there's a lot of people melting the fuck down over simple differences in opinion anymore. And that's really all this is: it's a difference of opinion. Neither opinion caused this tragedy, and neither opinion could somehow have fixed or prevented it.

IMHO, the only thing that could have prevented it is if the unhinged rantings of this teenager were actually listened to, and somebody did something to get him help.

550 Use less plastic. Glass is easier to recycle.
Posted by: rickb223 at December 06, 2021 03:34 PM (uXonU)

Plastic is just solid petroleum. Burn it in a properly-designed burner, and it will burn cleaner than coal. The petroleum works for you twice, once as a "thing", and later as fuel.

The biggest part of the cost of glass is the energy needed to make it. Melting old glass to remake it into new objects takes nearly as much energy as making it new, and the resulting glass will never be more than second-rate. Besy way to recycle it would be crushing it and adding to aggregate for pavement and concrete.

551 I dunno. I would have told her I owned a donkey that used to do stage shows with the strippers in Tijuana--but the donkey refused to do her (the New York Times editor).

Even animals have some standards and they won't touch dumb f@cks.

554 The funny part is that the Communists at the New York Times are as much a laughing stock as is their fat owner, Carlos Slim.

555 If the New York Slimes fired every reported that lied they would quit publication because there would have no one left

558 Imagine this clown is one of the more sane ones at the Times. The others have to be restrained most of the time or sedated. All have IQs appropriate to those people who enjoy watching Joy Behar.

559 My name is Rachael dazalma from Mississippi, United state. I was diagnosed with Herpes early this year in 2021 and the doctor told me herpes has no cure. I kept searching for any possible cure. While searching, I came across lots of reviews on facebook about how doctor DOUGRAY used herbal medicine to cure different people from Herpes and other diseases. I made an order for the herpes cure eraser and I received it 5 days later, I took the medicine for 9 days as instructed. While taking the medicine, I noticed some changes in my body. I used the medicine during the outbreak and the outbreak stopped completely. all the itching and pain was gone completely. When I was done taking the herbal medicine, I went for a test and I was confirmed Herpes negative "totally cured". Before I made an order for herbal medicine, I promised Dr DOUGRAY that if his product actually worked for me I was going to share the testimony through all social media so lots of people can be aware that Herpes is curable. you can contact dr dougray via Email: drdougray@gmail.com
