The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

"Some of the retailers downtown in Michigan Avenue, I will tell you, I'm disappointed that they are not doing more to take safety and make it a priority." Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot

Quote II

“Students are afraid. Parents are afraid. Parents are afraid for students’ safety,” Temple student government president Bradley Smutek

Quote III

“The results demonstrate that regardless of geographic campaign, current sentiment is the same. An endorsement from President Trump is almost paramount. Voters support President Trump by overwhelming margins, and anti-Trump candidates are not faring well.” Zachary Moyle of Las Vegas-based SoCo Strategies

Mitch McConnell, John Thune and the ilk still don't get it.

As we grow older the filter between the brain and the mouth slowly but surely dissolves. Just ask Boise State political science professor Scott Yenor.

Boise State professor feeling the heat after declaring ‘meddlesome’ women shouldn’t be in medicine or law

Boise State political science professor Scott Yenor really stepped in it at the National Conservatism Conference on Oct. 31, claiming that men, not women should dominate the engineering, medical, and legal fields, drawing the ire of hundreds of protesters.

His remarks on women in the workplace were decried not only by students but other professors and local politicians as well who protested at the university on Dec. 4 regarding prioritizing men over women in professions and trades.

“Young men must be respectable and responsible to inspire young women to be secure with feminine goals of homemaking and having children. Every effort made must be made not to recruit women into engineering, but rather to recruit and demand more of men who become engineers,” Yenor declared. “Ditto for med school, and the law, and every trade.”

The comments brought a swift rebuke from BSU’s political science department who signed a letter on Dec. 5 stating that the professor’s remarks “directly contradict the experience of many of us, as well as what empirical research shows about women.”

I'm not a big fan of mayo. Oh I'll use it at certain times. Here's one variety that I don't need or want. No word from Chef Dildo.

Terry, the company behind the infamously delicious Chocolate Orange, has teamed up with Heinz for a, erm, unique Christmas special: Chocolate Orange Mayonnaise, the "festive mash-up that you didn't know you needed."

I say Bull Shit! Die Hard is a Christmas movie.

Your Yearly Reminder That “Die Hard” Is a Great Film, But Not a Christmas Film
The recent Netflix rom-com "Love Hard" has reopened debate on the action film's holiday pedigree. Just accept that it's not.

The new Netflix holiday rom-com Love Hard does one thing admirably: it cleans up the issues with “Baby, It’s Cold Outside.”

Otherwise, it’s a forgettable romance that wants to subvert Christmas movie tropes while embracing them, particularly when it comes to referencing Love Actually. It also makes the “Die Hard is (or isn’t) a Christmas film” argument a small but repeated joke throughout (even in its title), without providing any closure to the subject.

Of course Hillary wasn't mentally or emotionally tough enough to be president. Can't this disgusting bitch just waddle off into the sunset?

Hillary Clinton SOBS As She Reads Her 2016 Victory Speech that Never Was

Two-time failed Democratic presidential contender Hillary Clinton brought shamelessness to a new level, sobbing as she read what would have been her 2016 presidential victory speech had she not lost to then-GOP nominee Donald Trump.

The former Democratic nominee choked up as she talked about her mother, Dorothy Rodham, who died in 2011. Clinton has said her mother had a difficult childhood.

Romans 3:23-25 NASB1995 'for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus; I guess the Pope believes in Sin Categories.

Pope Francis, leader of the Catholic Church, has said sex outside of marriage is not the “most serious” sin.

During a question and answer session with reporters on a flight back to Italy from Greece on Monday, the Pope said: “Sins of the flesh are not the most serious.”

I've been employed most of my 29 years on this earth. This is a new one for me, "Unlimited Vacation".

Every few years, a law firm will adopt an unlimited vacation days policy and sell it as a recognition of that associates are “adults” and “professionals” capable of managing their own schedules. Which is an odd pitch since those associates would have to be born yesterday to believe that. And yet, despite everyone being clued in on this bait-and-switch tactic for over a decade now, Quinn Emanuel decided maybe its associates wouldn’t piece it together.

Spoiler: They pieced it together.

The firm sent around a memo yesterday offering the same tired pitch to its associates about the magical world of unlimited vacation.

Here I thought it was unemployment or retirement. Silly me.

Australia's most famous identical twins who eat, sleep and shower together with their shared fiancé have now revealed they plan to be pregnant at the same time.

Anna and Lucy DeCinque, 35, from Perth, take their sisterly bond to a whole new level - they dress alike, spend every minute together, and plan to have babies with their partner of nine years, Ben Byrne, 40, at the same time.

The sisters - who have earned the world title of the 'most identical twins' - are so close that they go to the toilet together and measure out their food to ensure they are eating exactly the same amount.

Earlier this week we covered NYC's legalized drug injection sites. Hell, even the Reverend Al "I Don't Pay My Taxes" Sharpton is upset.

Mayor Bill de Blasio’s sometime political partner, the Rev. Al Sharpton, is protesting his legalized drug injection site in Harlem, charging that city officials are treating the predominantly black neighborhood as a dumping ground for addicted, homeless and mentally ill New Yorkers.

“We are compassionate and want to help all the vulnerable population in New York City, however, we cannot be complacent regarding the decades-long process of systemic racism that has oversaturated our community,” event organizers, including Sharpton’s National Action Network, said in an email about the Dec. 11. protest.

No extra crunchy "Hashbrowns" anymore. Genius Award Winner.

DECEMBER 7--Two of America’s most beloved brands--Waffle House and methamphetamine--are at the center of a new criminal prosecution in Tennessee, court records show.

Investigators allege that Anthony James Silcox, a 31-year-old cook, sold meth from a Waffle House in Caryville, a town 30 miles from Knoxville.

Cops, search warrant in hand, raided the Waffle House Friday afternoon and arrested Silcox (pictured at right) while he was “standing at the grill.”

A search of Silcox yielded 3.3 grams of a “crystal like substance” believed to me meth, as well as drug paraphernalia, according to a complaint affidavit.

During a police interview, Silcox reportedly admitted to selling meth from the Waffle House (seen below), but said that he “does not sell methamphetamine everyday but has sold methamphetamine several times in the past.”

Silcox, cops reported, stated that he was just “trying to make a living” and was currently residing in his Ford F-150 truck and at “random motels.”

Would be felon learns a valuable lesson. Tonight's Feel Good Story of The Day.

If the late Sean Connery taught us anything over the span of his famed cinematic career, it's that you never bring a knife to a gun fight.

But as we've seen time and time again, certain folks just can't help themselves.

What happened this time?
A homeowner exited his Compton, California, residence near the 1500 block of West 156th Street around 6:15 a.m. Tuesday and was entering his vehicle in the driveway when a knife-wielding individual — described by authorities as a Hispanic male in his 30s — confronted the homeowner in an apparent robbery attempt, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's office said.

Posted by: banana Dream at December 08, 2021 10:17 PM

Yep, my company did the same a couple years ago. We used to be able to purchase an extra 5 days of vacation. The eliminated that and eliminated rollover and cash out. The good news for me though is they moved up the time when we are eligible for the full 25 days of vacation. Previously it was after year 12 with the company. They changed that to after year 10. I just had my 10 year anniversary with the company a month ago. So next year I go from 20 days to 25 days vacation.

That's the good news. Bad news is I no longer need that much vacation, since I don't go anywhere with all this Plandemic BS. So basically means 5 extra days to not have to walk downstairs and turn on my computer to work from home.

151 Antifa is all a-Twitter because of an Antifa riot in San Diego on storied Pacific Beach last January. Antifa attacked a group of Proud Boys and bystanders, and seven people have just been charged with felony riot.

San Diego does not have a Soros DA (Soros tried, but his candidate lost).

Several of the attacks detailed in the complaint appear to match incidents that were recorded and shared online, such as a video of Antifa pepper spraying a dog and its owner. Prosecutors allege that act was committed by Jeremy Jonathan White, 39, one of the defendants who remained jailed Monday in lieu of $200,000 bail. White faces charges of conspiracy, assault with a deadly weapon, use of tear gas not in self-defense and animal cruelty.

Antifa is furious because: 1) no Proud Boys were charged (the DA determined that it was assault, not "mutual combat", 2) the fact that all the Antifa people were dressed in "black bloc" is taken as evidence of conspiracy. The nerve!

My company went to this policy a couple of years ago. "Any" is overstating it, but I'm pretty sure nobody has taken as much PTO as they would have been allocated under the old policy. You do worry about how much "unlimited" PTO is going to be perceived as too much.

It's funny that in the dominant culture this (which is just the traditional position on gender roles until 1960) is now so extreme as to be almost literally unthinkable. Is there *anything* on the other end of the sexual-politics spectrum that would seem so extreme if a professor came out in favor of it?

Just pedophilia and bestiality, I think. So that's basically how extreme *normal traditional family life* looks to the dominant culture.

234 From watching the streamers during the Rittenhouse trial, it seems like the big shot lawyers must get 6 or 8 hours a day to screw around on the internet.

Depends on the kind of lawyer. I played poker with a securities lawyer who won a big case, and pocketed a third of a million fee.

The next year, his biggest source of income was his tax refund, since he had to pay estimated taxes the following year assuming that he was going to make a third of a million dollars that year too.

It's like being a consultant - you are either starving to death; or you are swamped with work, and don't dare turn any of it down, since you don't know when you'll hit another dry spell.

I've also known women that were naturally good at their job and had no desire to have kids. Lots in the middle. Women in the workforce is good, but this isn't really controversial now. More women devoting themselves to motherhood and family is controversial. I would like to see more of the latter without sacrificing much of the former. A serious society would talk about these things and not devolve into ace's clown boner orphan inferno everytime they're mentioned.

We have a project milestone on Monday. Which means we have a ton of report outs to management on project status. In addition, there are 2 major project upper management meetings happening over the next 3 weeks, where people are going to be coming to us asking for a bunch of info they can put into their presentations to give to upper management. With me the only one left "in office" next week, that means all those last minute requests for information and investigations and data and snapshots, etc are going to fall on me. Yay.

I can handle all of it, but it's much easier to get all the requests handled in a timely manner when my team can divide the work among 3 people. Always good to do things in parallel than in series. The good news is that after COB next Thursday, I will have 17 days of being by myself to do whatever I want.

Yet those dominate the list of sins that the Apostle Paul enumerates that those who practice will not inherit heaven (1Co 6:9-20). Sins of the flesh are the first order result of being turned over by God (Ro 1:14)

Throughout the OT, whores and adulterers are considered the lowest of the low. King David killed his chief officer Uriah in a vain effort to hide David's own adultery. Murder is considered better than sexual sin. Whole cities were wiped out over sexual sin. The concept of one man and one wife for life is the model of Christ and the Church.

Sins of the flesh were what got Adam & Eve expelled from the Garden.

The Antipope is an Antichrist.

Talk about misleading stats..

Republican voters make up less than 30% of voters..

Recent polls show up to 50% of support for Trump by GOP voters.. but that leaves half of GOP voters rejecting him.. even while a good portion support his policies and want to see someone else run on them.

so.. that makes a whopping total of what? 20% of voters still supporting him and candidates he endorses?

He needs to just go away..

Since there were two laws in the Garden. Be fruitful and multiply (which they didn't do), and Don't eat from the tree, which they did do, technically you are correct.

377 There was a period around 1640 or so in which the celebration of Christmas was frowned upon.
I think the Puritans frowned upon it, part of the reason they came to the new world.

When the Communists took over in Russia, they tried to ban Orthodox Christmas. That didn't work very well - people need a winter holiday.

The CPSU then got smart, and made New Year's the official holiday, and moved all the secular parts of Christmas to New Year's. So, people in the Soviet Union gave each other New Year's presents, put up New Year's trees, and had New Year's feasts. There is even an entire Soviet film genre of "New Year's movies".

So, the Communists lost power, the Orthodox Church came back, and people decided that they liked the arrangement where New Year's was solely a secular holiday, and Orthodox Christmas (January 7th) was solely a religious holiday, so the arrangement has persisted.

Andrea Mitchell asked Fauci if officials should back off from mandating vaccines after a federal court imposed an injunction on Biden's vax mandate for federal contractors.

"I would prefer, and we all would prefer that people would be voluntarily getting vaccinated, but if they're not gonna do that, sometimes you've got to do things that are unpopular, but that clearly supersede individual choices for the communal good," said Fauci.

Most of what we celebrate isn't biblical. Many details we think we know of the Christmas story probably aren't accurate. Most notably, the words inn and manger in the context of the birth of Jesus don't mean what they are portrayed as today. And we don't know if there were 3 kings. There were 3 gifts mentioned in scripture - but no specific number of kings.

433 If we had any sort of ethical media, instead of asking Fauci about the Biden mandates, they would ask him what he thinks about all the exemptions to his mandates Biden has been giving out (USPS workers, illegal aliens, UAW workers, etc). Because the exemptions were in place before judges started rejecting the mandates.

If this is really for "the communal good", then there would be no exemptions. But no one is going to ask anything like that of Fauci. The closest anyone came was asking him about illegals crossing the border and not being held to the same restrictions as people entering the USA legally and he blew it off just by saying "that's a different situation" with no follow-up.

I think the English Civil War period is very sobering compared to our current situation. Our civil war (1861 -1865) was really an anomaly and not a "civil war" at all, since it was two regions at war with each other. (War between the States is a much more accurate name)

But studying a bit about the English Civil Wars, you find that it's as if suddenly half of every city in England decided it was time to kill everyone in the other half of their city, and they kept that up for years until they had wrecked almost everything. It's what I fear any civil conflict today would look like.

Fortunately, almost all of us today are a lot of big pussies compared to how vicious and violent our ancestors were.

437 Most of what we celebrate isn't biblical. Many details we think we know of the Christmas story probably aren't accurate. Some of what we know was passed down by those who were there, or nearly so. If you read the Church fathers, many of whom were writing during the lifetimes of the Apostles, there is a fair amount of detail concerning things that were not written in the received Canon, meaning the Bible. That doesn't mean they weren't true, just not included in the final books chosen. It can be very enlightening concerning what was believed at the time, most of which has not changed over that time.

Good points. One of the biggest problems is language translations. Details and meanings get blurred when one language has a single word to describe things that had multiple words in the original language. Such as the word Love in English -- it is used as translation for many Greek words, which have important differences in meaning.

Well, it's a beautiful translation, mostly, but not all that accurate. I'm often surprised at the vehemence of some Protestants about how it's the only true Word, etc. As if the Greek wasn't? And then they throw out a bunch of the books of the Canon, so there's that. As I recall, Luther wanted to get rid of James (works as well as faith), and he certainly hated Maccabees. I was probably in high school before I discovered that Protestants left out a bunch of the OT.

However, there are those who protect and defend, and those who do not. I expect Mr. Crenshaw is more sheepdog than sheep, but he probably has some other opinions as well.

480 The official Bible of the Catholic Church is the Vulgate, which was translated into Latin by St. Jerome. The dude was a PITA, but he did know his Greek and Latin. It was translated starting in 382, so I guess Catholics don't waver much on what they consider Scripture. The supposed "American" translation is an abysmal failure in both substance and accuracy. Don't even bother. Probably the best English Translation is the RSV Catholic Edition, which has all the books and went back to the Greek rather than translate a translation. It is the version I teach.

Ordinarily, I'd agree, ma'am. But today, even local (multi-market, but Houston based) radio host Michael Berry gave Crenshaw the heave-ho. And Berry was one of the most influential in getting Crenshaw elected, in the first place.

Mr. Berry summed up Rep. Crenshaws' statements, not as a "gaffe" but as a series of revelations as to his lack of a truly conservative character, putting him FIRMLY in the McCain/Kinzinger/Graham/Ryan/Cheney/Turtle wing of the GOPe. It's not a "purity test". It's a knife-in-the-back warning.

One of the odd things about religion, is that you ARE believing in a higher power, and trusting some authority to tell you what that higher power wants.

I can't tell you how many Pastors have told me things that were taken from a distinct worldview, instead of taking Christ as the MAN he was.

Jesus regularly went to synagogue; he never said 'don't go.' He also entrusted the growth of the nascent Christianity to ten very flawed disciples. He specifically didn't call perfect people, because they don't exist. His strength (at this point, the Holy Spirit) only works in our weakness. I think there's a reason for that, and church is the place where you see that play out. That's why I go, and why I serve where I can.

I certainly don't know the answer, but I love these discussions on the ONT, because they get to the heart of the matter regarding religion.

537 As far as I know, the majority of churches are not requiring people to show papers to attend church, but it would always be wrong if they did. We will have a Christmas Eve service whatever anyone says and if the state wants to throw me in jail or the hierarchy wants to put me on administrative leave for it, so be it. We will be open if only my family is there to celebrate Christ's birth bringing light to a dark world.

In my readings about the early Church, as well as what I know about the growth of home churches in China, it is through adversity and oppression that the church really grows. That is why COVID has been so disappointing to me with regards to the general Church response. John MacArthur, who doesn't even believe that the Holy Spirit is working in our lives in the present day, experienced huge growth in his church, simply by resisting Newsom's efforts to shut him down. There are churches that are growing, simply by being that light in the world when the popular trend was to stay shut in. We're coming back, but the church needs to raise its voice. Now more than ever.

Have you heard of "Post-Pandemic Stress Disorder" (PPSD)? In the UK, there has been a marked increase in cardiac and thrombotic events in young people. The explanation is all the stress and anxiety caused by the pandemic. That's the ticket, that's what causing all this shit.

Now, consider the Blitz of London back in WWII. You'd think if anything would trigger such a mass anxiety stress disorder causing heart problems, it would be that. Nope. No such thing.

On a much sadder note. I lost Mike Hammer's Cat He suffered a stroke on Saturday night, an was euthanized on Monday. 20 years together, and I couldn't even be there to say goodbye.

568 John MacArthur, who doesn't even believe that the Holy Spirit is working in our lives in the present day

Um, I'm not sure that this is the case. I just went to his website: GTY.org. and it didn't take too long to find sermons on how the Holy Spirit works in your life.

576 Couple of points about Jorge, aka Pope Francis. First, while I often disagree with his application of doctrine and his theological basis, he is correct that sins of the flesh are not the most serious. The Great Sin, as C.S. Lewis describes it, is the sin of Pride, the first of the seven Deadly Sins. As Lewis says in Mere Christianity: "Unchastity, anger, greed, drunkeness, and all that, are mere fleabites in comparison: it was through Pride that the devil became the devil; Pride leads to every other vice; it is the complete anti-God state of mind." So, while Jorge did say that sins of the flesh are not the most serious sins, that quote does not attribute to him saying that sins of the flesh are not serious, just not the most serious. Finally, there are sin categories: sin which is deadly (i.e. mortal sin) and sin which is not deadly (i.e. venial sin). 1 John 5: 13-17 talks about this, specifically verse 17: All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin which is not deadly. Given that all sin is wrongdoing, believing that we should not repent of all wrongdoing would be incorrect. It would appear to come from a sense of pride.

579 Unlimited Vacation?
My company calls it "DTO" or "Discretionary Time Off".
As in "you can take whatever time off your manager approves".

But it's for the same reason...
"So we don't have to pay out when you get laid off or quit".
Everybody knows it, and knew it from day one.
Your manager will approve whatever time off you've accrued under the old schedule; everyone knows that too.

580 Both Dante and Thomas Aquinas agree that 'sins of the flesh' are not AS serious as other sins.

But they ALSO agree that 'sins of the flesh' will put you directly into Hell do not pass GO do not collect $200.00.

Unless you are shriven and have done the assigned penance, of course.
