Based on the title, yes. I am not sure what this week's theme is. It's been death and resurrection and religious symbolism, but not from any particular faith. Maybe death and faith is the theme. Or maybe there is no theme, and sometimes it's just about a whale.

Thou dost put thine left foot in

Thus sayeth the Lord

72 There is a solidness (for lack of a better term) about Correggio's art. The colors can be muted or brilliant but they are not nebulous. His characters have bodies that show the muscular structure under the skin and the soft curves of the women. In particular, his Christ figures show a man in his prime, not some emaciated creature that only inspires pity. His technique is hugely effective and often moving. It is like the viewer has a window onto the scene. It is more immediate than seeing a painting in a frame on the wall.

117 So speaking of ships at anchor on the horizon, we were over on Mt Pleasant yesterday.

You get a really good view of the South Carolina state ports facilities, and the activity taking place there.

Let me tell you, the number of containers on the local highways, and the double stacked container rail cars moving about is incredible.
You almost get the impression that the entire nation's being supplied through our local ports.

In Rome, they dated things from the purported founding date of the city, 753 BC, which was considered to be Year One.

Ab Urbe Condita, often abbreviated as AUC, means "From The Founding Of The City". It refers to the year of the founding of Rome, which was the Epoch used in Ancient Rome.

Noli me tangere is the Latin version of a phrase spoken, according to John 20:17, by Jesus to Mary Magdalene when she recognized Him after His resurrection. The biblical scene gave birth to a long series of depictions in Christian art from Late Antiquity to the present.

The hip hop translation I think is "Can't Touch This".

It's astounding that there aren't more crashes because of this. "Durrr, I'll hang out next to a giant, heavy vehicle with limited maneuverability and speed change ability for long periods of time at high speed because nothing ever goes wrong!"

I still handle this the way my mom taught me to. When I go to pass a truck, I hold back far enough that if there's an emergency, he can dodge over without hitting me. When the lane in front of me is clear for long enough to get past him, I punch it hard and whiz past as quickly as possible and then move back over. Minimize the time spent in a truck's emergency maneuver path and blind spots.

Almost all monarchies around the world used "Year of the King". (Or Emperor) Reset to zero every time you got a new one.

Whenever one of them got all hoighty-toighty and wanted to assert that he was part of some dynasty (meaning he was probably a usurper) they would use Dynastic starting dates. Thus we mark things like the Achaemenids and the Sassanians.

Civilization is surprisingly fragile. I try to tell people that but no one alive here has seen it all collapse including me. But I see the obvious signs. It is that our experience is but a tiny window into history and through it now we only see a beautiful panorama of the abundance you speak to, continual "progress", safety and comfort. But beyond the limits of our vision, hidden by the window's frame, are burning lands, abject misery, death and sorrow.

It doesn't need to be this way. But we are ruled by people whose only goal is to be happy and satiated in the next few hours.

281 This is a weird painting. If it's supposed to be the risen Christ ("Don't touch me, I have not yet ascended to the Father."), then why are there no marks on his hands/feet/side? And I don't care for the effeminate gestures. There's a certain laziness to such generic affectations of the posed hands and feet that belies the painter's seriousness (or skill) at depicting the subject.

At museums, this is the kind of painting I tend to glance at and move on.

--------------

Of course it is. But our country "elected" him. The problem obviously with appeasement is it will eventually bite us as somehow we get pulled into a war. If Russia wants Ukraine, there isn't much we can do to stop it. Perhaps Ukraine should have kept its nukes.

Then again, I'm guessing Russia will "appease" Biden because it can get the best of both worlds - control over Ukraine plus US $$$.

Let them have it. Pull out. Give the Poles some nukes and let them deal with Europe.

I remember some leftist jackass at work trying to get tax deferment and a massive government payout because of some major hardship they suffered. Eventually, you found out that the hardship was that one of his various estates he owns around the world was hit with a hurricane and there were trees damaged around that particular mansion and some of his servants had not been able to fix it for him. A lot of rich people I've known, not all of them, but especially the leftist ones, have no idea that they are rich, always believing they are suffering downtrodden victims and are terrible at managing what they have.

Posted by: SH (Overturn Roe) at December 09, 2021 10:41 AM (sX1BW)

It really comes down to Energy - thanks to their idiotic green" dismantling of their energy production, Germany absolutely depends on the good will or Russia and it's gas shipments just to survive the winter - so they do not dare to stand up to Russia on anything. With Germany caving right out of the gate and the US disengaged, NATO is dead and everyone knows it.

Btw, Britain won't do anything because it would mean that someone might need to step outside and break quarantine. Can't have that.

426 Yeah, but that's an own goal, not Russia doing anything other than taking advantage of NATO and Anglosphere stupidity.
Posted by: Thomas Bender at December 09, 2021 10:56 AM (SO3EB)

a lotta big games get decided by own goals. It's not how good your team is, it's how bad the other team is.

Maybe Karl Marx will end up even being right about WW3 (vs WW2)- "History repeats, the first time as Tragedy, the second time as Farce".

I've tried that with no success. Well, at least I haven't liked the versions I've made. I have a spiced rum which might not be good but I could always get more/different.

You got a good recipe I could try this year?

Am I the only one who sees this whole "scandal" as a non-issue? I would presume Finland has some sort of power delegation scheme, whereby executive power passes to other persons in the event the PM is out of touch or incapacitated.

Yeah, but now NATO and the Anglosphere are war mongering over Ukraine and silly GOP twats like Wicker are talking about using tactical nukes.

Over Ukraine?
