The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition

punk-monkey.jpg

When was the last time you saw some problem or were confronted by an issue and your first thought was, "Gee, I wish the federal government would spend some money and get that fixed!" Or for that matter...your 812th thought...

Our country is broken, perhaps irreparably so, but the answer to our many issues is not more government spending. Of course that is the conservative in me talking, but the assumption that government largess (with our money) is the solution to any problem, much less the catastrophic problems we face today, is becoming increasingly difficult to justify, even for the Democrat operatives in the media vomiting out Biden junta talking points.

How injecting trillions of inflated dollars into the economy is going to control inflation is beyond silly. It is nonsense jabbered by the willing fools. Sadly, America is doing what America does best, ignoring the problem.

92% Say Inflation Is A Serious Problem; 56% Say Build Back Better Plan Will Make It Worse

Ninety-two percent (92%) of voters say that inflation is a serious problem these days. A Scott Rasmussen national survey found that just 5% disagree and 3% are not sure.

Those totals include 64% who consider inflation to be a Very Serious and 2% who say it is Not at All Serious.

The survey also found that 56% believe the Build Back Better plan being considered by Congress will make things worse by increasing inflation. Just 14% think that legislative plan will help by reducing inflation. Nine percent (9%) don't think the legislation will have any impact on inflation and 22% are not sure.

Voters are not paying much attention to the Congressional debate on President Biden's proposal. Just 19% know that the infrastructure bill has passed and the Build Back Better plan hasn't.

So the plan seems to be to increase the national debt by 10% (at least), funnel most of that money into Democrat NGOs and the expansion of every government program for the poor (illegals included), and hope that it will...uh...do what? Three generations of The Great Society and its spawn of a thousand different anti-poverty programs has done exactly nothing but make the problem much, much worse. But now we are going to add racially divisive initiatives and pandering to illegals and the tiny populations of the needy and disturbed.

Curiously, there is not much mention of some government expenditures that are of some utility...roads and airports and bridges, and the other bits of infrastructure that are not complete and total wastes of our money.

It is truly amazing that with myriad examples of the incredible waste that is government spending, America still isn't paying attention. But that debt isn't going anywhere, and inflation is here too.

America may not be interested in government spending, but government spending is very interested in America, and not in a good way.

16 Now for the topic at hand:

Unfortunately, a lot of people seem to think that government is a magical thing that can solve every problem. Waste? Mismanagement of funds? Oh, that's because there wasn't enough government to help. You want to teach your children? How can you do that without loving teachers blessed by Holy Government to guide them?

We need to stomp this attitude down hard and stop caring about the people who think that they aren't supposed to do things for themselves.

Think a good portion of it will be given to people who are helping destroy our country. Here's just one example: "Deep dive into Holly Zoller, a figure in The Bail Project."
This is what a million and one "community grants" and "programs" go towards. The idea that the programs are being run by "dreamy liberal hippies" is cover - that "community gardening" grant went into her pocket... but only if she was someone who could rouse the troops when needed.

Does USG or its arms ever have trouble finding out about tax evasion or people skipping out on legal debts? . . . and yet it does so for her. The progressive egregore is a network within the formal structure.

She is a small scale, street level operative; only trusted with millions of dollars and simple operations like smashing downtown business district windows and burning small cities. What does someone who is a more reliable person with the same outlook look like?

One of the reasons I like Svengoolie, Rich Koz, is that he has some class. He originally ran one of Rondo Hatton's films, and pronounced his affliction as "acro-me-GAL-ee." When he found out that was wrong, he devoted a moment the next time he was showing an RH movie to apologizing and giving the correct pronunciation, "acro-MEG-a-lee." Not many in today's media would take the time for that.

Many people have internalized the idea that government spending to stimulate the economy is an ongoing permanent necessity. This is the result of constant propaganda to that effect.

Trump's economy, before the COVID sabotage, showed the way out, as did the Reagan economy before it. The deficit spending didn't stop unfortunately, but that was not the reason for the boom. We have deficit spending now. Quit printing money, quit paying people not to work, and facilitate the real economy -- that's the answer, but the clown class in charge is running away from it as fast as they can. Parasitism is all they know.

97 Government spending throws money at the problem, and throwing money at the problem will never push prices to the downside. There is perhaps no better example of this that is also something to which most people can relate than college education.

The government, in its infinite wisdom, wanted to increase college access and address the "affordability problem" with college attendance. This started in earnest in the 80s. The average cost for all 4-year residential institutions (room, board, tuition) in the 1983 academic year was $4,167. Median family income was $24,580. The broad measure for cost of college was 16.9% of median family income.

Flash forward to 2018. The average cost for all 4-year residential institutions in the 2018 academic year was $24,623. Median family income was $61,937. The cost of college was 39.8% of median income.

Once the government decided to tackle the "affordability crisis" in higher education, the cost more than doubled on an income basis. When you throw more money at the problem, all you can achieve is inflation unless you're focused entirely on net-new stuff (like roads), and even then you need to be wary that it isn't just pure malinvestment.

Yeah, didn't help. Using the presence of a diploma as the preferred gating mechanism resulted in a secular demand increase despite price. Add in to that the destruction of the industrial economy and it compounds the problem even further. And so they keep rinsing and repeating, hurling ever-greater quantities of money at the problem and being astounded when prices still don't come down.

I'd really like all of the inmates at all of the supermax prisons, lined up against the wall and shot. Then close the supermax prisons. If someone is bad enough they need supermax, just go ahead and execute them. Same thing at the state's level too. If a convict is irredeamable, and requires life without parole, just execute them and move on.

The GOP will do nothing, though we will be entertained by Ted Cruz tweeting some SIC BURNZZ!

If GOP voters are like me, disgusted with the whole useless lot of them, they will stay home. And those who do vote will have their ballot negated, whether by fraud, mail-in vote or active collusion with the GOP.

Stop thinking the Dems are going to pay any 'electoral price' for their madness. The system they have put in place puts them beyond the reach of the 'voter.'

One of the advantages of an mRNA vaccine is the ability to ramp up production very quickly. That has always been the goal in vaccine research, and they are there.

Of course the problem is that the amount of antigen that the current mRNA vaccine produces in the body seems to be insufficient, especially compared to natural immunity.

That will be the next breakthrough in mRNA vaccines.

They fought hard, but it isn't the worst outcome. VA is the model, probably. Even if the GOP eeks out a win (or even storms into a big win), the odds-on bet is that the worst possible outcome is a holding action. The RNC is largely allied with the DNC, and a lost election isn't too important. None of the agenda will be undone, and the worst case scenario for them is a two-year delay in implementing more of their big-ticket items.

There's the 3 groups of people in America who have an incredibly high opinion of themselves, compared to the truth.
Now the caveats with teachers and nurses is that the good ones really are important to all and a godsend to some. Politicians can't say that at all. The really good ones merely don't fuck things up at the same rate that the rest do.

That federal politicians hold such power over the future of everyone is a shame. It shouldn't be that way.

Tesla plays on the same field as everyone else, but Elon figured out that everyone who was saying 'electric cars need to be cheap and small city cars' was full of shit, that to get over the hump they needed to start off as expensive third cars for people with private houses to charge them at.

And then they went out and troweled supercharger infrastructure across the landscape, an investment no other mfr has made.

My wife's Model 3 Performance (3.1sec 0-60) wil bury your head in the headrest instantly, and in 35K miles it's been absolutely flawless, has needed nothing.

Around here...well...was sitting at an intersection making a left turn, and the four lanes of traffic sitting at the signal coming the other way were headed by three Model 3s and a Model Y. That's Tesla market penetration in coastal California.

305 Every car Musk sells comes with a significant tax break from the government.

Canada, for instance, is giving $10,000 for buying one.

To say that Musk gets no tax incentive is ludicrous.

306 cont'd

Case in point is all the spending they do and how it is sold to the dullards (us) they pretend to represent.
Calling the spending infrastructure doesn't make it so, and having the in-your-face temerity to claim day care and school lunch and healthcare for marginalized groups and k3 and k4 are infrastructure...

We like necessary spending. We all do. We want the nation defended, both at the border and beyond. We like street lights and roads and bridges and railways that don't collapse, and the politicians know that.
So spending is sold as infrastructure, yet the infrastructure never gets repaired/rebuilt or built. When it does, it's only after every friend of a friend fills their greasy palms with government cheese.

Gotta love how they've nationalized the local threat that in order to get the spending you're more than willing to pay for you have to accept 4 times that amount in useless graft, otherwise we may just have to stop picking up the garbage and close a few fire stations, maybe the lights go out. That'd be a shame wouldn't it?

Feds. Proving over and over again that bigger is not better.

308 I see a basic misunderstanding is floating about regarding the VA election.

The fraud was limited this time around because mail-in ballots were strictly limited to those who asked for them.

This is why the Dems push for ballots sent to every voter like they are now doing in CA. They need the votes of those who are unlikely to vote in order to execute the fraud.

Fairfax tried to cheat, I watched the numbers in real time as they erased 3 points of Youngkin's lead. But there weren't enough unreturned mail-in ballots.

Once McAwful became toxic enough to piss off key districts, no amount for Fairfax cheating could overcome it.

It's like an equation, the cheating is only one of the factors in the calculation. You can't allow the other factors to fall too far out you can't compensate.

322 Musk isn't doing anything with electrics cars the Fed doesn't want him to do. He builds them and takes the Federal $$$, nobody is forcing anyone to buy his product.* He is going where the money is, that's all.

What Federal $$$?

Selling ZEV credits to other mfrs? Anyone who built EVs could do that.

Tax credits available for a Tesla are nil now that they've sold so many.

They got a sweetheart deal on the Fremont NUMMI plant which now employs a whole lot of people, again, after GM and Toyota effectively abandoned it.

Note the UAW didn't think Tesla mattered enough to try to organize the plant at first. In suburban California. You can bet they care now, but there are few more anti-industrial-union people than Elon.

The biggest bennie Tesla buyers got was (is?) the three-year solo-occupancy carpool-lane sticker.

327 My cousin's kid is "life coach". Her college work was in education, sort of, with the goal of not actually teaching. This she accomplished via an acceptable marriage and her grandparental pension (inheritance). She spent her time doing not a lot with the gym thrown in. After a nasty divorce from her husband who instantly was labelled "narcissist", she used more of the unearned money to buy a new home and set herself up as a "life coach". On the surface, she "has it all", but does not tell her "clients" that her success was via birthright and grandpa's money. They only see the lovely home, the time at the gym (she doesn't work) and the flashy exercise clothes.
