The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

"Congresswoman Ilhan Omar should apologize for marrying her brother, committing large-scale immigration and election fraud, wishing death to Israel, and for essentially abandoning her former country, which doesn’t even have a government—Exactly what she’d like to see for the United States!” President Donald Trump

Quote II

“COVID has shown us that our system is broken. We lost too many lives, too many jobs, and too many opportunities because Washington got it wrong. They took away our freedom without making us safer, and tried to kill our spirit and our dignity.” Dr. Mehmet Oz, a cardiothoracic surgeon and the long-time host of The Dr. Oz Show

Quote III

"We do not have a representative on the Natural Resource Committee, because Liz Cheney chose to go on the Armed Services Committee. And while that may benefit Virginia, it doesn't do a doggone thing for the state of Wyoming." Wyoming candidate Lawyer Harriet Hageman

Quote IV

‘We do not tolerate aggressive behavior of any kind, and this passenger is no longer welcome on any of our flights,’ Nicole Aguiar, Spirit Airlines

There is no doubt that this ruling will be appealed. But it is nice to see a victory for the "Little Guy" for a change.

Federal Court Rules Takings Clause May Require Compensation when Police Destroy an Innocent Person's Home in Process of Pursuing a Suspect
The decision is at odds with rulings by some other federal courts, and could end up setting an important precedent.

Did he have the power to thwart the 2020 presidential election? Or was he correct and doing his job? Yours truly doesn't know or at this point care. That being said, there is no way I will vote for Mike Pence for President.

Pence 2024?
If Donald Trump officially enters the next presidential race, that doesn’t mean his former vice president will stay out of the contest.

with Trump by refusing to overturn the 2020 election results. And now, Pence is eyeing a presidential run of his own, even though his old boss hasn’t ruled out a 2024 campaign. Pence wouldn’t necessarily stay out of the race even if Trump jumps in.

“If you know the Pences, you know they’ll always try to discern where they’re being called to serve,” Marc Short, Pence’s former chief of staff, told me. “And I don’t think that is dependent on who else is in or not in the race.”

If President Trump doesn't run in 2024. Here's my choice.

Teeth Are Gnashed After Ron DeSantis Goes There on the Waukesha Massacre

Gov. Ron DeSantis continues to lead while other Republicans cower in the corner. With the rise of the so-called “Omicron” variant of COVID (they skipped the Xi variant for obvious reasons), the Florida governor has chosen to double down on policies that actually make sense.

Because we care.

The Australian Signals Directorate, Canberra’s equivalent of Britain’s GCHQ or the US National Security Agency, will be granted sweeping new powers to spy on Australians for the first time since its November 1947 founding.
The move allows the agency to collect signals intelligence on individuals within the country without a warrant, although allegedly only in situations where there is an “imminent risk to life.” Domestic terror suspects are cited as a key target in the Directorate’s crosshairs, and it will also collect intelligence in conjunction with the Australian Defence Force for military operations, with ministerial authorization.

Rules governing the reform and protecting citizens’ privacy will be published on the agency’s website, and subject to review and scrutiny by the Australian parliament’s security and intelligence committee. While framed as sincerely concerned with keeping Australians safe, experts have expressed grave reservations about the development. Among them is John Blaxland, Professor of International Security and Intelligence Studies at the Australian National University, himself a military intelligence veteran, who warned the powers were ripe for abuse.

Dining out is a learning experience. I guess so after 8,000 meals.

Many people in America love Chinese food, but David R Chan is perhaps in a league of his own.

Mr Chan, a 72-year-old former tax lawyer based in Los Angeles, claims to have dined at nearly 8,000 Chinese restaurants across the US and counting. Each is archived in a spreadsheet that he has maintained for four decades, along with thousands of restaurant business cards and menus.

If you visit one Chinese restaurant per day, it would take more than 20 years to reach his current count - 7,812 restaurants.

From pineapple buns and pork belly to chicken feet and tea-smoked duck, the Chinese restaurant "collector" documents his food conquests almost daily on his social media accounts.

Fighting child abuse, one book at a time.

In the past decade or so, child abuse has become quite fashionable. Nowadays, it is seen as virtuous to allow your children to undergo irreversible hormone therapy, merely because they momentarily identify as the opposite sex.

Of course, kids often play pretend and let their imaginations run wild. Some kids pretend they are dinosaurs, others superheroes. If left alone, most of these fantasies will fade away, including the desire to become the opposite sex. According to the World Professional Association for Transgender Help, roughly 94 percent of children with gender dysphoria will revert to identifying as their biological sex.

And yet, many parents, doctors and LGBT activists believe these children should be given the choice to permanently alter their bodies through hormone therapy. Of course, children do not have the ability to consent to this any more than they can consent to having sex. They cannot possibly comprehend the long-term, life-altering implications of such a decision.

A voice of reason in an insane state.

Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva notified the LA County Board of Supervisors that he will not work with genetics firm Fulgent to conduct mandatory testing and registration of COVID-19 in first responders after a recent briefing from the FBI where he was warned of the firm’s links to China.

In a letter addressed to the supervisors, Sheriff Villanueva stated he was contacted by the FBI Weapons of Mass Destruction Coordinator regarding the significant risks posed by Fulgent Genetics Corporation. The FBI contacted Villanueva with the express purpose of meeting with other leaders within LA County to share information on the ties between Fulgent and China.

Fulgent has “strong ties with BGI, WuXi, and Huawei, all of which are linked to the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, the People’s Republic of China (PRC) State Council, and are under the control of the PRC.”

I guess oversight and proper guidance for the incompetent FBI and proper border control and immigration is too much for the US Senate. They claim they are the brightest individuals with their Ivy League educations.

Just what we need now, Lawmakers take aim at 'Grinches' using bots to target consumers during holidays

A group of congressional Democrats rolled out legislation Monday to stop "Grinches" from stealing Christmas by using bots to corner the market on popular toys and other products during the holiday season.

The Stopping Grinch Bots Act would take steps to stop the use of bot technology to buy up major shares of popular toys, which groups or individuals using the bots then resell to consumers for higher prices. Further, the bots are able to get around security measures to buy toys from online markets, making it even harder for parents and children to access these products.

I'm so glad they are concerned about children at Christmas time. Never mind the unbelievable debt you are placing on their shoulders.

The narratives are failing. Or are they?

Inevitably, it will be here. The question is will we be prepared for it?”
— Dr. Fauci on Omicron

Does it finally look like Dr. Anthony Fauci is trying to carry out an assisted suicide of the United States? On the Sunday Morning TV chat circuit, the White House Covid-19 czar (a.k.a. The Science) declared that the new Omicron variant is “a clarion call” to get people vaccinated. Is that so, Dr. Fauci? Considering how well your “vaccines” work? And how many people have been maimed and killed by their side-effects? (More than all other vaccines combined over the past thirty years.) And how you knavishly outlawed effective and cheap early treatment protocols that would have put Covid-19 down by June of 2020 (and saved half-a-million lives). The Science also called on Sunday for the general re-masking of the public and averred to the possibility of more lockdowns ahead. And just at Christmas-time, you understand. What a nose this rascal has for politics!

Dr. Full of Shit is a serial liar.

An award-winning scientist has responded to statements made by Dr. Anthony Fauci on Sunday by repeatedly calling the top Biden administration health official a “serial liar.”

Prof. Richard H. Ebright, a Board of Governors Professor of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Rutgers University, responded to each of the following comments made on social media by stating, “Serial liars–like Fauci–will be serial liars.”

North America has been fighting the "War on Drugs" for as long as I remember. Toronto opts out for deterrence to small amounts of any and all varieties of drugs. Will it work? My guess, no.

Toronto plans to decriminalize drugs for personal use and here's how this will work

Toronto is on the way to making a landmark decision to decriminalize all street drugs in quantities small enough to be considered for personal use, and has issued a new framework detailing what it will focus on when it eventually issues its formal appeal to Health Canada to make it happen.

As part of a new public health approach to addiction rather than one that relies on policing, the city has proposed three main goals:

Increasing funding of health and social supports to impacted individuals;
Helping to establish some sort of national framework to decriminalize possession for personal use;
Working towards decriminalization within city limits specifically.
Drug production and sale will still be prohibited and punishable by law.

You can increase spending on rehab all you want. The sky is the limit. But, if the user does not want to sober up. All of the rehab in the world won't work. Without stigma attached to using and without deterrence I just don't see this working.

Fear not. Pence will never run for POTUS - he knows he's toast with the base. He's never made a lot of money before as a politician (in light of Pelosi's fortune, that's actually a point in his favor), so he's milking this moment for all it's worth, for the sake of his bank account.

Can you believe Biden's been POOTUS for less than 11 months? Already we've gone through possibilities of who would be the R nominee in 2024, for goodness sakes. It would usually be done at least two years into a term, not less than one.

No, "Washington" did not get it wrong, the globalists are at WAR with the good people, and they have been planning all this SHIT in great detail.

And, they do not think they have a Better Plan for humanity, they only have a plan for themselves, RULING over human kind. (at best they tell themselves it will be better for all, but their Prime Objective only prioritizes themselves, not "Humanity").

I haven't read very much of Bova's work. James Hogan did something similar and in fact had a nice epilogue scene in his book where one of the diggers at an excavation site finds a device from the aliens who colonized Earth, but the lead archaeologist thinks it's a modern cheapo watch or something so he gets pissy and tosses it into the river.

Ditto for your addition. They actually subtract value from civilization. Tom Wolfe skewered an earlier 60's version of these people in his Radical Chic article for the New Yorker. His description of the worthless people of that era centered around a celebrated party that Leonard Bernstein held for the Black Panthers as a fundraiser for their legal defense. What is interesting is the craven retreat of the bien pensants from their actions once that they came to light in a subsequent NYT story.

Latest from Israel. A doctor, triple-jabbed caught the Moronic and immediately infect another triple-jabbed doc. Symptoms are mild so far in both.

So, it appears Moronic is gonna rip through the jabbed, even triple-jabbed like shit through a goose.

No evidence of any ADE effects in the jabbed, yet, thankfully. But Moronic eats the vaccines for lunch.

The Bass Strait is one of the most unpredictable and ferocious bodies of water on the planet. Check out some videos of the 1998 Sydney - Hobart Race to get an idea just how nuts. It's considered the most dangerous ocean race in the world.

It's a bit more than a couple miles wide and attempting a cross in a canoe would be pretty nuts.

253 Yeah, Piper had a huge Thing for a Martian civilization that failed long before it was reborn here, and he used it in both his Federation and Paratime stories.

Posted by: Helena Handbasket

On Piper's work, perhaps on Empire or Federation collection of short stories, there is a short story regarding the origins of Freya--When in the Course, where it is basically an earlier version of the Paratime Kalvan novel.

Heinlein also got into the act with his Assignment in Eternity.

Basically, Jones tells of a brilliant scientist stopped by a confederacy of apparent dunces (in truth aliens trying to prevent humans from destroying themselves) from developing teleportation.
The scientist termed these dunces as Persons from Porlock in homage to Coleridge the poet.

Our Persons from Porlock though are more interested in destroying instead of saving civilization.

Right, if it takes such and such effort to make a freaking pencil (or, making lots of them), building a city takes how much more...? You need the tools to make the tools to do the work, and people to use them, etc etc. Then when the ice age ends of the ground shifts from some fun plate movement or such, no one finds your awesome city. It is actually quite good. Imagine a savory omelet. The soy sauce in the gravy adds a richness to the whole affair that is quite good. The omelets themselves are not the most pleasing visually, I will admit, but that is why you smother them in gravy. Usually your choice of meat or vegetable, some other crunchy vegetable and I think sprouts mixed in the omelet (it varies from place to place.)

360 SITTING in tall cotton.

It's got an interesting origin. Before the Civil War in the American South, "cotton was king" among cash crops. When crops were good, the cotton was high - and so were the prices the plantation owners could get for it. If you were sitting (or sometimes "standing" or "walking") in high (or sometimes "tall") cotton, well, you were very fortunate. Over time, the phrase was applied to almost any situation that had a favorable outcome. It meant one was living the good life.

While I was researching the phrase, I also discovered that for everyone who talks about sitting in high cotton, there is someone else who talks about shitting in high cotton. Apparently, according to some theories, slaves who were in the field all day picking cotton would relieve themselves among the tallest plants, and use the biggest, fluffiest bolls they could find to wipe themselves afterward; also sometimes referred to as "shittin' in high cotton and wipin' on the top leaf."

Had a Greek history professor in college. It was a very archaeology heavy course. She was talking about one find she was involved in where they could not find any evidence of weapons made or used by the inhabitants. Then she said they did not know why they moved or died out because the surrounding land was good. Maybe some famine or plague. And no weapons.

My eyes did a lot of rolling in that class.

Hand cotton picking hasn't been done for decades, except maybe for fun.

See the difference between cotton pickers and cotton strippers. A cotton picker is a very intricate machine, and for years they were only two row. John Deere came out with a 4-row cotton picker, and that was something.

My father used to grow cotton, but by the '70s, when I was a kid, it was going out of the area. The local gins shut down. But I have memories as a little play playing in cotton wagons.

Around the place here, I can still occasionally find an old rusty cotton picker spindle. A picker had to be overhauled every so often, and I can remember my father doing that. Many, many little parts that would wear out.

I think another big problem is too often people don't look.

The continents didn't always look like they do today, far from it. At one time Australia was part of a land mass that included Tasmania, Papua New Guinea and a bunch of other South Pacific islands. The aborigines have existed for 50 - 60,000 years in that region, they are a living historical artifact that most just ignore.

Australia is one big archeological dig that is constantly under exploration and new finds are made all over the continent all the time that give clues into the formation of the earth but almost nobody cares. Life crawled out of the ocean there millions of years ago but that isn't much fun. Doom is much much more entertaining even if it is mostly bullshit.

447 >> How wide are the beds? I haven't been in a cotton field in probably 20 years.

My father planted cotton in 38" rows, maybe 36", which was sort of standard spacing. Near as I can figure, 36" is about the minimum, considered the width needed for the picker.

A cotton picker (as opposed to a stripper, which is cheaper and faster, but results in lower quality fibers) is a very intricate machine, lots of moving parts.

I can remember my father's old Allis-Chalmers 2-row picker. Each "bank" had rows of spindles that turned individually, in these rack affairs. Very complicated mechanism with lots of small moving parts.

Overhauling meant replacing all those little parts.

George was a genuine good guy by most accounts. But musically there was no one like them befote, and none since. I feel that way more and more as I get older. And they weren't that spectacular individually. People bash them because of familiarity, being sick of the hype, and being symbols of the Boomer 60s. If you're interested, look up how a cotton picker works. As the machine moves through the rows, the cotton plants come in the banks of spindles. They are rotating with little barbs on them. That grabs the cotton balls and pulls them off the plants. You have a water tank that constantly sprays a mist of water on the spindles, that keeps them clean.

The cotton is then pulled off the spindles and sucked by a huge blower, which blows it up into the basket.

It takes a lot of skill to run a cotton picker, not to mention adjusting it properly. A well adjusted picker can get 98% of the cotton. A poorly adjusted and operated one might get less than 80%.

Well, that's open to debate. Lee DeForest is generally considered to be the first guy to invent a tube that could amplify a signal. Thomas Edison invented a diode, but couldn't figure out a use for it, and it was really a dead end in his search for a way to stop light bulbs from getting blackened on the inside of the glass. He tried to contest DeForest's patent, IIRC.

Havesting equipment is becoming very automated now. In the old days, the driver of the picker had to do everything manually. Constantly adjusting the height of each row unit (in hilly country, where we are, you're doing that all the time). Steering was critical, you wanted to center the row perfectly in the middle.

A lot of that is automated now, using all sorts of fancy and expensive electronic feedback controls. Automatic steering is being used. They use that on combines as well now. Let the machine precisely align itself moving down the rows.

A modern picker compared to my father's old '60s era picker would be like comparing a Model T to modern vehicle.

I think they grow some near the Colorado River and in the Imperial Valley too, the Coast and the Sacramento Valley tend to be too cold for Cotton.

Interestingly, a lot of California (as far north as Sacramento I think) is suitable for Tabacco and decent amount of it was grown here in the past. Not sure if any still is though.

Yeah, I got the memo. By my 2nd show, I had already used alcohol, marijuana, LSD, and mushrooms in private. I just didn't want to use them at Dead shows. I really like the music, love the live performances, didn't want to wait in line for the can, and I get way too much into my own head when I'm intoxicated on anything. So, sober was the way to go. I did have a friend who took the brown acid and was later taken to the hospital in Irvine for overnight observation -- and acid was his drug of choice.

495 Well, that's open to debate.

I remember the gins as well. You'd carry the cotton to the gin in these old 4-wheel cotton wagons. The gin had a giant suction intake that sucked the cotton out of the wagons.

I was just a little boy when that was going on. I always wanted to go inside the gin, but my father wouldn't let me, as it was too dangerous for a little child to be any near without basically holding him and making sure he didn't touch anything.

OHSA would've probably thrown the gin people in jail now. And I'm sure modern gins are quite expensive, with all sorts of safety equipment and rules.

I used to keep up with tractor and farm equipment tech, but I've been out of the loop for about 20 years now.

I remember when they first started putting radar on tractors to detect true ground speed. My father and the others of his generation laughed at that, considering it stupid extravagant nonsense.

The idea was of course to know true ground speed, and thus determine wheel slip, allowing you to properly ballast for different conditions, and achieve maximum possible fuel efficiency.

My father and his bunch were of the opinion that kind of stuff was just "too much candy for a nickel" (more than a nickel by far). That kind of stuff was just something to go wrong and be difficult to repair, wouldn't last under tough conditions, etc.

But that's where they've gone, and you wouldn't believe the sophistication now.

I think we've discussed it before, but, I've done coke, acid, pot, speed, downers, huffed and drank, some of it all at the same time.

Of all of the drugs I tried, I only did pcp once, and that was by accident. I was handed a joint laced with it, and thought, "cool" until it hit me. The absolute worst.

Though, witnessing a guy who tried to leave his colon in the toilet after shooting up a speedball was enough to kill any interest I might have had when it came to injecting drugs.

528 America is the most exceptional country on the planet, populated by an extraordinary people, governed by the most unique political system in history.

For those understandably becoming discouraged by current events, a brief look back through our history will reveal that we've met and prevailed over issues even more serious than the present mess.

What we who fight back against the left are doing is continuing the struggle of those who preceded us.
They strove to ensure the Republic remained intact.

It's part of our heritage to continue the battle. Our family has been in this struggle since the Revolutionary War and I'm proud to have played my small part in that defense. I will defend, as per the oath I took to protect and defend no matter the cost.

My father as a young man did grow cotton in the hand picking days. That was well before my time. Probably in the '50s at the latest. I want to say he got a cotton picker around '60.

Anyway, I've heard stories. You need a bunch of manual labor to pick. Modern equivalent would be like the stories of the contractors going through the parking lot of Home Depot and picking up undocumented labor.

That's what they'd do. Drive into town with a truck pulling a wagon, and the pickers would jump on. They were paid by the weight of the cotton they'd pick. My paternal grandmother was in charge of weighing. One trick they'd pull was to put rocks in the sacks. Which would be very bad for the gin, of course. So, she had to make sure to check for rocks.

I think there are two things going on, it is not just the ability to understand basic technology that is the issue, though the development of it was probably extremely slow for various reasons. Along with technology changes there is also social changes that allow adoption of new tech, and in small, extremely conservative societies (as small societies living on the edge of subsistence must be) societal changes are very dangerous.

That reminds me of another funny cotton story of my father. One year, sometime in the mid '80s, we were at a family dinner. We'd have that every year at the church, using the "fellowship building", which had a kitchen, tables, and then couches and chairs and stuff.

After dinner, my father and his brothers and my cousins and all that were sitting around talking. My grandmother was getting on up in years, and she was sort of sitting around staring into space, not seemingly play attention.

My father and uncles started in on the "kids today" stuff, pointing at me and my cousins. These kids don't know anything about work. Don't know what real work is. They've had it so easy....

554 What's sort of interesting about my drug use, and it mirrors the crowd I ran with, we partied hard for a few years, then, it was time to give it up and do other things. Only one guy I know of kept on with the drug use, and destroyed himself. Which was sad, because he was a very bright guy.

Well there was no escaping it in my world, it was a constant. You had to decide early on that if you were to survive you had to use your head. I think I might have told the story of this one music party I went to. It was kinda high level. Big epic frigging house. There was dishes of coke on tables like frigging candy. There was a room with white sheets spread out, and people were coming out of the hot tub and the sauna and toweling off, and sprinkling coke on the sheets and fucking rolling in it. Chicks in their underwear, dudes in their underwear (boo), etc. All different drugs, etc. It was shit you read about. It was a culture shock. I just went outside, got stoned, and talked shop with other musicians. I knew right there I was not going to survive this shit if I didn't keep my wits.

561 The general thing that's weird, is there are a few places scattered around the globe that show some basic similarities in terms of materials and construction. Very hard stone, granite, diorite and andesite are almost impossible to work with. Worked to a very high level of precision. Then, as you go up in the archaeological layer, things get more primitive, not more advanced.

And it's true these original sites were evidence of a mature technology or level of sophistication. Mainstream academics don't really want to delve into any of that, so it leaves a huge vacuum, for the nutbars to run around in.

But it is interesting to study. A lot of people hold with some sort of cataclysm that wiped out the anciients. Great floods (may be in some book I read) and meteor strikes, or plasma ejection from Sun, etc.

564 I went to a party at Woody Harrelson's brother's house in Santa Monica, about 15 years ago. (Woody was in NY on Letterman or something.) First, it was not that big a house -- location x3. Second, when you entered, you could go straight ahead to the kitchen thence out to the back patio. About half the guys were there, with half the beer. If you went to your right, past the living room, there was the foosball table room, with the other about half the guys and the other half of the beer. In the living room where the TV was were some couches and a coffee table. That's where almost all the women were, along with a huge bong and a big bag of community pot. Just pot. If there was anything else in that house besides beer and pot, I didn't see it. BTW, the women at that table ran the gamut from hot, model types to plain Janes and they all seemed to be having a blast sucking in Humboldt's finest. It was a lot of fun.

581 What I saw of the "hippie" lifestyle and adherents was a lot of dysfunctional people. There were some good people to be sure, biut younger people in general aren't always the best judge of character. A lot of Trustafarian types with all kinds of money, it was a fashion statement, you want to play you got to pay kind of thing. I'm sure the idealistic types who really thought it was about "sharing" and "free love" and that kind of thing were left pretry confused. Basically, genuine or authentic hippies were pretty conservative in a lot of ways, and like any grass roots movement, co-opted for fun and profit most likely by alphabet agencies.

602 "Without stigma attached to using and without deterrence" we might go back to those hellish days when meth was available over the counter at drug stores. I would suggest the stigma was stronger then because it was 'us' in the community and not 'them' in government getting involved with our neighbours.

Deregulation would remove one 'us' and 'them' from law enforcement and the community. I am unconvinced it will change stigma within communities as you predict.

Toronto is adding extra government involvement to private citizens' lives, insisting you receive nanny's approval for your intoxicant supply levels. Except alcohol. Etiquette approves endless stockpiles of booze.

The 'us' and 'them' division remains.

tl/dr
The new laws are going to fail because that's how bureaucrats get more money.
