The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition

punk-monkey.jpg

So pumping petroleum out of the ground from wells is beyond the pale because CLIMATECHANGE! And moving low-cost petroleum from Canada through safe pipelines is a crime against humanity? But pumping it out of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve is just A OK? The reserve that is intended to provide petroleum during national crises like war and natural disasters? Not man-made price dislocations caused by a profoundly stupid and malign political philosophy!

Of course that political philosophy is socialism. Let us not pretend that the attempted destruction of domestic oil production is anything other than part of the long march, in which petroleum -- a product inextricably linked with American independence and individualism -- is demonized and made scarce. It will also create economic shocks that are profound; driving people into the cities where transportation is subsidized and, at least on the surface, cheaper than burning expensive fuel in one's own car.

U.S. to release oil from reserves in coordination with other countries to lower gas prices

In total, the U.S. will release 50 million barrels from the SPR. Of the total 32 million barrels will be an exchange over the next several months, while 18 million barrels will be an acceleration of a previously authorized sale.

“The President stands ready to take additional action, if needed, and is prepared to use his full authorities working in coordination with the rest of the world to maintain adequate supply as we exit the pandemic,” the White House said in a statement.

Tuesday’s announcement follows the administration saying for months that it was looking into the tools at its disposable as West Texas Intermediate crude futures surged to a seven-year high above $85.

This is straight out of Saul Alinsky's playbook!

  • Increase poverty.
  • Increase debt to unsustainable levels.
  • Make people dependent on the state.
  • Class warfare.

The logical disconnect is obvious, yet our media are marching in lockstep with the Democrat party in support of restrictions that do absolutely nothing other than increase the price of energy in America. We're still burning it...it just costs more. Fuel has an inelastic demand curve...it has to get extremely expensive before people start decreasing their usage. But they reduce their demand for other goods, and that damages growth. Which is the point.

It's also amazingly stupid, and maybe the American public, which has been asleep for generations, will finally notice that there is an easy and cheap way out of the huge economic issue of high fuel prices, and it isn't dipping into emergency supplies of oil!

Open the Keystone pipeline, sell oil leases, remove restrictions on fracking, and we will once again be net exporters of oil. It won't take long.

And it won't happen until Senile Joe Biden is voted out of office and the rest of the Democrat junta is curb-stomped.

My personal conspiracy theory is that the Dems became the champions of the finance and investments business. As the US switched from manufacturing as a base to service industries, there was a vast profit to be made from financialization of debt and tapping currency inflows and outflows. But, as everyone gets in the game, the profits go to normal levels.

So, individuals want to make money quick--be able to control events behind the scenes so as to make a quick buck because you know when to hold em and know when to fold em. It is no coincidence that a lot of the Dems biggest fundraisers essentially make their money via hedge funds and from that options and derivatives which rely on privatized information. Societal chaos is necessary to make the most money from that information.

Yep, I agree. The modern left, which has control of every institution in the country, does not care one whit about the American people or what we want. If people have not realized that by now -- after a brazenly stolen Presidential election with no consequences, imprisoning and torturing conservative protesters and mandating American workers be fired for rejecting a dangerous shot -- I don't know what to tell them.

Fracking wells and smaller wells SHUT DOWN during COVID. That's not a faucet you turn back on cheaply; and they're not worth the cost.

Several manufacturers of well parts SHUT DOWN.
So you can't get parts to drill wells in the next few years. They're backlogged.

We are much more screwed now under Biden? That's true.
But nothing would make this not be terrible.

Removing the energy from a system is a virtual death sentence; the greed and egoism of Washington in that regard is rather startling. This cobalt mine is a giant hole in the ground that requires vast amounts of energy to mine, transport to processing facilities, process, and then process and transport again into finished goods. Coal mines are probably more efficient and no more damaging to the environment.

I know virtually nothing about the Aubrey case but from the photos that the media is using you'd convict on those alone.

I don't think the dude was in high school when he was shot.

Look at the societal havoc they have caused.
First, they release Jacob Blake, who goes on to get himself shot by cops, followed by the Kenosha riots, which ensnared Kyle, whom they never should have tried.
But, wait, it gets better.
They lose the Kyle prosecution in historically unprofessional fashion.
THEN
They release Darrell Brooks on a small bail. 2 days later we get the Waukesha massacre.
Those DAs should be run out of town on a rail before before they cause more chaos.

286 One of the Portland news channels has been doing a series on the homeless. It's pretty interesting. If there is an encampment that is by the freeway, the city and ODOT point fingers at each other about who is responsible for cleanup. And when they do a clean up, they can't touch "personal property". So all this junk gets left behind. There's a black activist that goes out and does cleanup on his own, afterwards.

One of the property owners said he didn't mind sharing but didn't want this, meaning the drugs and garbage. It seems that the type of person that lives in a tent on the street doesn't have the desire for tidyness. There's no way they will ever get this cleared out. And when they move them out, they get protesters in their neighborhood, trying to intimidate them for their actions.

That way if you don't need more votes to win, you just post slightly more Dem leading totals then were really cast and no one is the wiser.

But if you do need more votes you can now take at those votes you hid away that can't be shown to be fake...because they aren't.

321 A little bit of news: the Congo is going to revoke the transfer of the minority interest in the cobalt mine to the Chinese group as a fraudulent transfer because, believe it or not, they have their own version of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act that this sale violated. The FCPA covers every country in the world EXCEPT the United States; in the USA it's perfectly legal to pay off family members of government officials (Congress wrote the law, after all), while paying off family members of overseas government officials is illegal. So Hunter Biden screwed the Chinese out of this deal. I'm sure it will be litigated for years, but Congo has bad enough PR that they don't need something new.

On this subject, if a US bank were to pay the Russian foreign minister's wife $600,000 to give a speech, they would be prosecuted, but it's perfectly OK for a Russian bank to pay the Secretary of State's husband to "give a speech."

The only thing Obama didn't do was mess with fracking on federal land, which helped lead to lowering gas prices. But he had zilch to do with what was happening in the private sector - at least he didn't mess with it or the leases. He just bitched about it. Gas was also (at least in CA) approaching $5.00/gal in 2008 - no thanks to W. But Trump did approve Keystone, which at least psychologically helped lower prices further. In 2011, Obama approved largest ever release from the SPR: https://tinyurl.com/yw28vv5y
Looking at other price "sources" I see a steady from 2010 to 2015, and then some easing. https://tinyurl.com/mp7rk8w Living in CA I'm in my own little bubble, but a little over a year ago, I was paying close to $3.2/gal for 92, and now it's almost $6/gal.

Yes. The Obama Administration started this in 2009. As part of their capital adequacy review, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (the bank examiners) notified the banks that they would not get full credit for loans secured by oil and gas reserves. Bank of America and Wells Fargo shut down their large energy lending businesses. This was the intended effect.

If the money leaves Sac, it's mostly to fund our pet imports or green fantasies. At least the voters shot down the 12 cent/gal tax increase that Sac imposed out of the blue on us, but they'll get it back in the end.

413 323 Garrett,
From my understanding, totality of circumstances reaching probable cause is what the defense was arguing based on multiple recorded trips to the house via surveillance, no record of any 'jogging' behavior by the deceased produced by prosecution, property theft from the house under construction of thousands of dollars subsequent to those nocturnal visits, the father of the shooter had prior knowledge of the deceased's record as he was investigator for the DA office, the deceased was known by sight due to one of the defendants actually spotlighting him at the building sight prior to the fatal incident, and so on.

The guy filming the incident with a camera phone was apparently unrelated to the stop according to the defense for him and was not involved in any interaction with the deceased and my guess is the most likely to be acquitted due to distance from the actual stop and subsequent shooting and defense contends that the cell phone guy lacked of knowledge about the actions of the other two defendants.

436 There are multiple stats on gas prices.

In 2009 ave cost of regular gas was 2.35 - having fallen almost a dollar due to the recession. It then climbed to 3.62, all due to Obama era regulation. He was actively trying to force it. It was 3.51 in 2013. And then fracking happened. By 2016 it was down to 2.14 a gallon. Obama would not allow new areas but yes, the Dakotas and West Texas pumped like crazy. Critics worried about a deflationary spiral - which was stupid. Cheap energy is always a economic positive unless you are a single commodity oil economy. We aren't. It shot up to 2.72 in 2018 - even with all the pumping, GDP was growing more rapidly. But in 2019, even with still a strong economy, it fell slightly to 2.60. All thewhile the Strategic reserve was being filled up.

Obama's energy policy was stupid. Trump's was smart. Biden's is Biden's.
