Following FBI's Political Raid On James O'Keefe, Contents Of His Privileged Communications With Lawyers Are Leaked to New York Times
And this was leaked to them by the FBI, after an illegal, political raid. And these raids are all about Joe Biden directing the FBI to harass anyone who had contact with... his druggie self-confessed nymphomaniac daughter's lost diary! Something the federal law enforcement agencies have absolutely no jurisdiction over! This. Is. Not. America. Not anymore. This is straight-up fascism. This cannot go on much longer. And what cannot go on, will not. A court has ordered the FBI to stop extracting data from James O'Keefe's phones. Perhaps some judges and government officials are not yet part of the fascist takeover of what was once America. Yeah, I've been in Buena Vista a few times and driven up to Leadville from there. Leadville is the highest altitude continuously occupied city in the US. It's like 10,400 ft above sea level. It's cold there even in the summer.

Yeah, I think that's it. This guy who's spent the whole movie going after Al Capone, not because he's a violent criminal but because he is in the booze business, is just gonna go and get a drink now. He believes in nothing but the power of the federal government.

And it fits his character, he's concerned about the Law. Once the Law permits something, it's no longer forbidden. He even has a speech about that, about 'harmless drinks' earlier in the film.

Yeah, that is what I remember (granted, I have not watched the movie in years). Was he a crusader against booze or was he a crusader for strictly following the law and setting an example for others? That's what I remember him telling the police force when they introduced him to them. He told them that they can't go around enforcing the law against booze if they themselves were drinking alcohol. So he wanted them all to stop drinking.

The TV series is not much better in the history department, but it's very entertaining.
Little known fact about Ness: He later became the police commissioner ("Public Safety Officer," I think) in Cleveland at the time of the serial killer case the Torso Murderer. The guy was never caught as far as I know. Ness's cops did everything they could do in 1948 or whatever, without today's forensics and databases. (Which just makes the story more interesting to me.)

Well, it won't happen instantaneously. First the malfeasance creates large scale economic dysfunction. This has obviously been happening for a couple of years now. Then the economic dysfunction creates hardship, food shortages, and so forth. That's starting to happen. Then the hardship catalyzes popular revolts because the gap between life and (possible) death has been sufficiently reduced.

The movie explicitly sets up Capone as a murderer, worse, a killer of children. Ness, however, is a Treasury agent. He can't go after Capon for homicide, that's a state-level crime. He IS committed to 'getting' Capone but he has to use the tools he has.
He goes after his booze operation, because it hurts him.
""He"" goes after his tax returns, despite the irony of prosecuting a murderer for not paying his taxes, which he also states in the movie.

Foreign intelligence has the longest leash, followed by domestic intelligence, followed by law enforcement. The IA agency must not be staffed with anyone who has worked in any of the three agencies they regulate in the past ten years. At least 1/3 of the the IA division must be staffed from state or local governments. At least half of the IA division must be staffed from the private sector. The maximum tenure at IA is seven years.

I think the issue is what is the time frame of "much longer". Personally, I think this is going to go on for the rest of my lifetime (I'm 45, avg lifespan of 78 (?) means that this will go on another 30+ years).
