USAToday Poll: Biden's Political Sphincter Slackens As He Loses the Ability to Retain Electoral Stools

USA Today's new poll shows Biden's approval rating sharting right past his underwear and squirting right past the flexible gathers of his Depends.

Biden's approval is at a woeful 38%. His disapproval is 59%.

A year before the 2022 midterm elections, Republicans hold a clear lead on the congressional ballot as President Joe Biden's approval rating sinks to a new low of 38%.

A USA TODAY/Suffolk University Poll, taken Wednesday through Friday, found that Biden's support cratered among the independent voters who delivered his margin of victory over President Donald Trump one year ago.

...

Among the findings:

Nearly half of those surveyed, 46%, say Biden has done a worse job as president than they expected, including 16% of those who voted for him. Independents, by 7-1 (44%-6%), say he's done worse, not better, than they expected.

Nearly two-thirds of Americans, 64%, say they don't want Biden to run for a second term in 2024. That includes 28% of Democrats. Opposition to Trump running for another term in 2024 stands at 58%, including 24% of Republicans.

Kumala's approval rating is ten points worse!

Vice President Kamala Harris' approval rating is 28% -- even worse than Biden's. The poll shows that 51% disapprove of the job she's doing. One in 5, 21%, are undecided.

Americans overwhelmingly support the infrastructure bill Biden is about to sign, but they are split on the more expensive and further-reaching "Build Back Better" act being debated in Congress. Only 1 in 4 say the bill's provisions would help them and their families.

If the election were today, those surveyed say, they would vote for their Republican congressional candidate over the Democratic one by 46%-38%, an advantage that would bode well for GOP hopes of gaining a majority in the House and the Senate. In a president's first midterm election, his party usually loses ground, and this time the GOP needs to flip just five seats in the House and one in the Senate to claim control.

Speaking of that "infrastructure" bill, the progressives refused to vote for it, which would have doomed it, save a miracle.

You wanted a miracle? I give you the G. O. P.

[P]elosi, the Democratic Party, and Joe Biden were rescued by 13 Republican House members who wanted some pork to show the folks back home that it wasn’t all fun and games in Washington and that Congress actually did some work every once in a while.

Even National Review's clucking little cvck Phillip Klein called this a "betrayal."

This wasn't just an infrastructure bill -- it was loaded with non-infrastructure leftwing agenda items, as well as just general wasteful pork.

But the G. O. P. has to prove it is Fwenz with leftwing Democrats. This they continue to believe is a selling point.

Here are the names of the traitors. Most of the name will be of no surprise to you -- and many are retiring, so they feel free now to show they've always been servitors of the Liberal Democrat Welfare God-State.

Liz Cheney isn't on the list because she's pretending to be An True Conservative, and also because she was out of the office that day to get botox injections to thicken and lengthen her luxurious jowls.

(Visual gravitas, suggests Aetius451AD.)

This Coalition of the Shilling could have voted no and forced the Democrats to accept a truly clean bill dedicated entirely to actual infrastucture.

But it's very, very important for Republicans to show they can be Good Little Democrats.

This is why we lose, and this is why there is no political future for the conservative movement until the GOP is Repealed and Replaced, as they refused to do with Obamacare.

Back to the poll:

An interesting inversion as far as rating of the congressional parties: While Congress always get dismal rating, Democrats always get higher ratings, usually by 7-10 points.

Not now:

In the poll, Congress gets dismal ratings: 12% approve, 75% disapprove. Congressional Democrats have a 29% favorable rating; congressional Republicans 35%.

Biden's job approval rating is dismal, too, at 38% approve, 59% disapprove. He has the lowest rating of any modern president at this point in his term except Trump. Studies have concluded that a president's job approval rating is one of the most powerful factors affecting midterm elections.

The party of a president with an approval rating that has dipped below 50% often faces a blowout. In the 2017 midterms, when Trump's approval was at 37%, Republicans lost 41 House seats. In the 1994 midterms, when President Bill Clinton's approval was at 48%, Democrats lost 54.

The GOP leads on the generic Congressional ballot question -- the question of which party you intend to vote for for congress -- 46 to 38. The Democrats had previously led on this question, as they usually do.

Check out RealClearPolitics, and hit the "See More" button at the bottom of the table, to see how this number has shifted from Democrats leading to Democrats falling behind.

81 million votes, friends:

Meanwhile: ESPN is protecting Biden. Of course.

BREAKING: Viewers complaining about muted crowd noise on ESPN for Alabama-LSU game, possibly due to anti-Biden chants

From October 30:

NASCAR and NBC have since taken steps to limit "ambient crowd noise" during interviews, but it was too late -- the phrase already had taken off.

But two years of kneeling protests and woke messaging is just fine.

Meanwhile, NASCAR denounces the "Let's Go Brandon" motto, and promises to "pursue" anyone using the phrase in connection with its logos.

Now, this isn't as bad as it seems. Any company does have a strong interest in defending its trademarks from any unapproved use.

Still, isn't it odd that we've finally found one case where a sports league takes a firm stand against Divisive Political Messaging, eh?

The funny part is that the GOP leadership say the same thing about the Dems. They know that they can count on the left to overreach, allowing the GOP to win seats by simply appearing to be more "reasonable" which allows them to win without making a whole lot of promises to the base. Promises which might be awkward when it comes time to pass immigration increases, tax cuts for global corporations, and more funding for the FBI.

It's #1: they're retarded. What we're seeing, around the world and in every industry, is that a whole lot of people got where they are through block checking and learning to say the correct things, not through competence and actual knowledge. They relied on the world continuing on more or less as it always has. It's not, and so they're panicking and making stupid mistakes.

81 Well, to be fairrrr..... if you're a broadcaster, and the crowd at a game is loudly yelling "FUCK....", you kinda have an obligation to not air that regardless of what follows it. Right? I mean, once in a while a hot mic on the field might pick up some salty language by the players, so the commentators laugh it off and apologize for it, but a repeating chant? That's not something they can realistically play on national network television.

What we're seeing, around the world and in every industry, is that a whole lot of people got where they are through block checking and learning to say the correct things, not through competence and actual knowledge. I am inclined to agree. Another element, though, must be "and nobody spoke up about it." Even if the producer made the call to cancel the crowd noise because of the chant, someone somewhere thought of the solution to the problem. In a prior time, that person - likely a control room guy - would have brought up an alternative to help the product be better. That guy isn't - or those guys aren't - doing that anymore. And that's a problem. Sensible people offering assistance to their bosses or teams as a matter of course is a big thing that keeps wheels turning. If those sensible people are now essentially "going Galt" in place, a lot of shit is going to break. Virtually every system depends on that guy saying, "hey, did you consider..."

I'd say that if Trump runs again, he wins - easily. While I would love to have Trump make a nod to the people that will never vote for him because of his 'personality' (which, btw, was ginned up by the MSM for ratings and battlespace preparation), he gained millions of voters in a media environment that didn't give him one day of good news.

The supertanker of this economy, once shifted, will take years to change course. All the money dumped into the economy from BIF and possibly BBB will - will - be inflationary. I don't care if 17 economists say that it won't, basic economic theory says that it will. Our downward trajectory isn't changing any time soon.

Once people see how terrible this country is being run - and they're seeing it now - Trump wins in a walk. Like Frank Purdue said, it takes a tough man to make a tender chicken. The Dems are stuck with Biden.

There is, but you have to pull the thread. The companies are deferring to the EO, which defers to the COVID "task force," which defers to the CDC. So the company, in enforcing the EO, is taking the rules defined by the task force (and signed off on by the director of the OMB), which uses definitions set by the CDC. The CDC definition of "fully vaccinated" is "two weeks after your second dose of Pfizer or Moderna, or two weeks after the single dose of J&J."

It's a mess, and it definitely violates the rules governing EOs and administrative procedures, but the law doesn't matter anymore. What it means, though, is indeed defined - it's just defined by someone else.

210 Reposting from my Morning Thread entry, because germane to this post:

I certainly don't agree with what these Reps did, but I do understand it to a certain extent. For all this time, the GOP was fighting the bigger BBB bill, and telling all who would hear that the 'bipartisan' BIF was better, and would do as advertised. If you don't lay the groundwork to inform the public what is really in the bill, you can't expect wobbly Republicans to torpedo the bill with no public predicate for doing so. The time to poke holes in the bipartisan bill was September, not last Thursday. McCarthy and McConnell should have been on this, but to their thinking, 'a deal is a deal'. If McCarthy didn't want this thing to pass, he could have told his caucus. He didn't. Do you think Pelosi would let this slide?

On the other side, Manchin was part of the 'bipartisan' deal. The GOP was thinking that if they reneged on him with the BIF, they might lose him on BBB. Stupid thinking, but probably makes sense to the lizard brains in GOP leadership.

I go back and forth on agreeing with that position. Trump never focused on details and his appointments were mostly awful. He talked a big game but never did any of the real things he needed to do to take control. I don't think he has it in him to be any different.

on the other hand, it would be so much fun to see how pissed off half the world would be if he did get reelected. It would be absolute chaos as long as he stayed in office, but it would be an absolutely glorious and hilarious chaos. The Nietzschean inside me wants to see it!

223 I am inclined to agree.

It may or may not be bad policy, but I don't think that if big government (at every level) craters the economy and deliberately destroys jobs by closing business and limiting their ability to function, small-government principles compel me to insist that big government not make good folks' losses. It's like arguing that a conservative would be a hypocrite if he insisted the that government pay his hospital bills after being run over by a government employee driving a government vehicle on the job. I have to say: I'm getting mighty tired of abstract principles that are only ever used against me as a one-ratchet being cited as a reason I should accept something that rather obviously isn't in my interest.

I grew up right by both Tujague's and Brennan's, but have never been to either. Red Fish Grill in the 100 block of Bourbon offers their T-giving Day buffet: $60/person, but it is all you can eat and with sides like raw oysters and fresh-baked bread. Last year they were accommodating about the face diaper thing, since I faxed them my doctor's letter. No buffet, we had an actual waiter. It was great. But we're not doing that proof of shots thing.

NASCAR...uh...

They've gradually worked their way into being a spec-racing series from the late '70s onward. I'll let them have the 350ci limit of the fuel-crisis days and stomping on the Ford SOHC and the Mopar Hemi.

But it's been pretty ridiculous since they set up the spec chassis and let Ford, Toyota, etc. trowel FWD brands on their racers...

For sport racers some of the hardware the teams have spun up proves really useful (got a bit of it) but by and large, as a series, it's a joke.

Like it or not that makes me hesitant. Even if he is a true believer in America First, like every other politico who followed that same path through life he's likely going to be very reliant on the same pool of donors and "experts" for money and staffing.

no, that one passed the Senate last August, and Nancy could have passed it anytime she wanted since then. (but her Prog Caucus got chippy on her)

it's been quite confusing since they've been working on and talking about 2 bills simultaneously, and they kept moving pieces back and forth between them. But the one that passed has, in fact, been a done deal for the last 3 months. The 13 republicans missed a chance to embarrass Pelosi at a crucial time, and they should have done so. But they didn't actually change anything.

The next 1.75 Trillion, formerly 3.5 Trillion Reconciliation bill has not been approved by the Senate. It is not being held up by any Republicans. The stumbling blocks are Democrat Senators Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema, not the "Independents" Anus King and Bernie Communist Sanders.
