In-N-Out vs. Newsom And The Progressive Juggernaut: My Money's On The Burger Joint!

sleazy44.jpg

That Gavin Newsom is a sleazy, scummy, authoritarian functionary who failed upward to become the governor of California is not news. And his political philosophy: cronyism combined with heavy-handed nanny-state intrusions is similarly well known.

But here he demonstrates a relatively new and profoundly disgusting tactic. Instead of recognizing that as governor he could easily push a preemption of local ordinances through the complaint state legislature, he chooses to be a passive observer of events that he pretends are out of his control. Just like the mush-brained senile retard in the oval office begging OPEC to increase production, because after all, he doesn't have any control over the rapidly climbing price of oil!

Newsom Responds To In-N-Out's Refusal To Monitor Customer Vaccination Status

He referenced a few years ago when the company “doubled down on their commitment” to California, so he said he wanted to “double down” on his commitment to the chain, while acknowledging the existence of differences of opinion “as it relates to some of these county edicts,” noting “we have to work through them.”

He added, "... there's been thousands of examples like this, some get highlighted, some don't. In this instance, there's an East Bay chain that there's a little bit more friction and frustration, [in] San Francisco, there was a week or so ago."

He is pretending to be some sort of state-level statesman, but a casual reading of his statement will reveal not only a tenuous grasp of proper English grammar, but also a statement devoid of any substance. He is a passive observer of events beyond his control, even though he is the governor!

In-N-Out Burger has a powerful response to what they correctly identify as overt fascism and disgusting intrusion into the private sector.

"We fiercely disagree with any government dictate that forces a private company to discriminate against customers who choose to patronize their business," the statement said. "This is clear governmental overreach and is intrusive, improper, and offensive."
That's how it is done. In-N-Out has a coherent corporate policy and will not be bullied by the junior Nazis in county and city governments, or their apologist in the governor's mansion.

Too few American corporations are willing to push back against the orthodoxy of passive compliance with government edicts, or in many cases active participation in the worst excesses of progressive social engineering.

In-N-Out stands apart from the herd, and I applaud them for it. I, and I hope many others will reward them for their principled stance by spending money in their restaurants!

84 I'm dubious how long In-and-Out will maintain their stance as "not being the vax police." It's hard to find a corporation these days that hasn't gone woke and is now doing the government's bidding by enforcing "corporate policies" that specifically mimic government policies that haven't been codified into law.

This was always the plan. Get corporate Amerikka to enforce policies the woke branch of society and the leftists want, but could never get through the normal and tedious Congressional process where it'd likely be shot down as unconstitutional.

Note that there haven't been many lawsuits filed against businesses and corporations enforcing mask mandates, transgender bathroom assignments, vax passports, etc. Weird that.

Fauci is their "scientific" underpinnings. For him they destroyed Raoult and much better men than Fauci, in order to get rich from that "vaccine". He has to go down if we have a chance. Discredit him, and the "science" is gone, and without the veneer of science all you have is fascist totalitarianism for all to see.

Whataburger is a step up from the lesser burger joints but the only one that really and truly did it for me was Smashburger because the beef is notably better. that was the test run for everything done in a much bigger way with the Global Warming scam. fact - there is nothing wrong with freon, it does nothing to the atmosphere, and there was never any valid reason at all to make everyone install more expensive AC units.

The CFCs were not universally banned, only in countries that were using RF12 while the DuPont patent was nearing its end.

If you look at NOAAs Global Monitoring site, you will see that CFCs have plateaued at their twelve atmospheric monitoring sites. That is, the "ban" didn't cause an immediate decrease because other countries with developing economies were increasing their use.

Could be, I'd have to see the cite. However, as I said, it's seasonally related, so T variations from winter to winter could explain it. If you read the cite I provided, so far the net reduction in ozone depletion is about 20%, which also matches the modeling predictions, so it isn't like we aren't still pretty close to where it was at the max, but the trend is encouraging.

Thanks for pointing that out. According to the plot I read, the decline started in the mid-90s, after the ban was implemented in '87. The concentrations for CFCs 11, 12, and 113 are all declining to this day.

Posted by: Justsayin' at October 31, 2021 01:19 PM (Fs5vw)

286 I'm going to be a bit pedantic here but ImHoPep, you have scientific procedures reversed.

You have the burden of proof on whether CFC's affect the ozone hole over the poles, not the doubters because you are making the factual assertion and that assertion involves a govt policy depriving others of something--e.g. cheaper and more effective refrigerant. Furthermore, your BIL cite is irrelevant because it is your assertion here--appeal to authorities such as your BIL or climatologists' consensus is irrelevant. Even model fit does not means that a causes b because I can design a model to indicate any result that I like (aka curve fitting) to explain variance by choosing some variable and ignoring others (a major error in statistics is omission of key variables). So essentially, your opinion is as valid or not as the doubters because it rests on your assertion that your sources are valid while others disagree and you take those sources on faith while others claim that faith is unfounded.
That is not science--merely argumentation.

Disagree, but you knew that. I didn't make the assertion, the person dismissing the connection between the ozone hole and CFCs did. I've cited both experimental and theoretical work that strongly indicates a connection, so I don't know how that is simply an opinion based on assertion, unsupported by evidence. I did not say theory in itself is proof. I'm an experimentalist, and long ago learned that lesson. I'm not engaged in an appeal to authority, because I cite data, not pedigrees. If I wanted to do the latter, I'd have noted that my BIL is a member of the National Academy. I hope that helps.

Posted by: ImHoPep at October 31, 2021 01:27 PM (ZsR3z)

290 Personally, I am agnostic over whether the older CFC's affected the ozone hole or not but I see too much bald assertions by people asserting that the the fruits of Big Science must be correct and doubters must prove them wrong. That puts the cart before the horse and has real policy implications.

Some argue for zero risk assertions as the basis for public policy but that can lead to absurd results when tests can indicates parts per billion or even quadrillion. Thus you get demands that no radiation level is safe, masks, covid vax mandates, and so on.

The truth is that Kuhn had it pegged in his book regarding innovation and science. Revolutionary science is followed by pedestrian tinkering around the margins, which then results in the collapse of the endeavor when the contradictions in the present theory is undercut by additional evidence which causes a new revolution in science and so on.

Changes are coming to a state law prohibiting discrimination against people for conscientiously objecting to medical procedures in the name of enforcing COVID-19 mandates, but the changes won't go into effect until July 1, 2022.

The Health Care Right of Conscience Act that's been on the books in Illinois state statute for decades prohibits discrimination against anyone for objecting to a medical procedure for religious reasons.

Over the past 20 months, COVID-19 mandates from Gov. J.B. Pritzker have evolved, including a mandate for health care workers and educators get vaccinated. In Chicago, thousands of police could be punished for not complying with the mayor's vaccine mandate...

... It's expected the governor will sign the measure.

"We have effective tools to fight this pandemic - namely, vaccines, masks and testing - and all of our communities are safer when we use the public health and workplace safety protocols we know to work," Gov. J.B. Pritzker said in a statement.

294 ImHoTep,
Not much, go back and read how Wegener was treated for continental drift theory for decades after his hypothesis. By the way, your very assertion that others did it first is not scientific. The null hypothesis is that there is no relationship which is what they are stating. By you defending the positive H1 hypothesis that there was a relationship between CFC levels and the ozone hole is the assertion. The null hypothesis needs not to prove anything as most things are not related butterfly hypothesis not included. They are simply doubting that a relationship exists.

BTW, whether or not a person belongs to the NAS is irrelevant to the argument. That is the logical error of proof by authority that is granted by others in authority. The truth is that the work that your BIL did or others did stand on their own regardless of awards, etc. And those results can be questioned by others quite fairly using new techniques, mathematics, etc. Usually, the pedestrian science is actually undercut by someone quite unrelated to power structures within the discipline but by naive assertions that the emperor has no clothes.

For a period in my life, I did massive empirical studies. Don't do that anymore but it left me firmly ingrained how to deal with the messy world of empirical research and research design. I asked for a citation because someone else made a definitive statement which was, to the best of my knowledge, inaccurate. The burden of proof was on him, not me. Asking for a citation is not out of bounds.

I've been following atmospheric chemistry of decades. Your last sentence is correct.

We have direct data from satellites, sounding rockets and balloons, with airborne spectroscopy. We know of discrete chemistry in the atmosphere column.

It is the modeling of this data that is out of whack, and proven over time to be incorrect. Our models lack something, either in scale, granularity, or content.

312 You demanded that someone else provide a citation.

What's the basis for this statement? The concentration of chlorofluorocarbons did decline, as did ozone depletion. Correlation doesn't equal causation, but the timing is pretty solid.

If that's your idea of a demand, I don't know what to tell you. That's how one asks.

As Feynmann said, "any theory, no matter how elegant, if it disagrees with measurement, is wrong", or words to that effect.

314 At least I think it was Feynmann.

And Einstein also. Which is ironic, because Einstein was unhappy with Quantum Mechanics and Black Holes.

A humble scientist knows Climate Change is a world-wide scam. Yet we distort a working world order for one that does not work.

Hard to explain this in a reasoned, calm, manner. It seems close to cargo-cultish insanity.

I aver it is something in our ur-DNA. Which is why nice things are going away.

Have a great day.

Remember, even the best navigator or scientist is off course some of the time. We need to be cautious.

The labels on the polls aren't in standard English:

The country is:
headed in right direction
off on wrong track

"The country is off on wrong track"? NBC has been taken over by aliens.

320 A man can dream. I dream of Newsom trying to shut down in-n-out and then finding himself in mortal perile, and being driven into exile for it.

326 I would like to support In-N-Out, but one problem...their burgers suck ass, and their fries are worse. And if you think In-N-Out is superior to Five Guys, you have lost your friggin mind.
